Description

Title of the invention: Bending tool for bending a roofing underlayment collar, a packaged roofing underlayment collar, and use of a bending tool for bending a roofing underlayment collar technical field

[0001] The present invention relates to a bending tool for bending a roofing underlayment collar along two or more principal bend lines, said underlayment collar comprising a first set of collar elements and a second set of collar elements extending perpendicularly with respect to the first set of collar elements, said collar elements together defining a collar opening, and said bending tool comprising: two or more tool elements, each having a length defining a length direction; an activation mechanism configured to move the tool elements relative to each other in directions that are substantially perpendicular to the length directions of the tool elements, in which said tool elements are configured to engage, preferably individually, the roofing underlayment collar and to move it into a bent state;and a first retention mechanism configured to hold the underlayment collar in a suspended position by retaining a first collar element of the first assembly. The invention further relates to a packaged underlayment collar and the use of a bending tool for bending an underlayment collar. Context of the invention

[0002] Roofing collars of the type mentioned above are known, for example, from documents EP0994992B1, EP2952646A1 and EP2284329A2, and since they are made from textile-like materials, they can be packaged in several ways. The emphasis was primarily on packaging the roofing collar as compactly as possible to reduce the space required for storage and transport, but in subsequent years, the focus shifted to making the installation of roof window-related products, such as roofing collars, easier in order to avoid assembly errors. An example can be found in the applicant's own earlier patent application WO2018 / 210937, in which the roofing collar was provided with a contact area suitable for contacting a window frame or the like.

[0003] Since the underlayment collars are large, consisting of four interconnected collar elements, and made from a flexible material, and since the folding patterns are often complex, the folding of the underlayment collars has typically been done by hand. This implies not only costs considerable but can also involve monotonous repetitive work, which is known to pose a health risk.

[0004] Document EP4023836A1 describes a first attempt to propose a method and a bending tool for bending an underlayment collar, but experiments have shown that further development was needed to provide accurate and reliable bending of an underlayment collar. Summary of the invention

[0005] In this context, an object of the invention is to provide an improved folding tool for folding a roofing under-collar.

[0006] This object and the others are reached by means of a bending tool of the type described in the introduction further comprising a second retaining mechanism configured to retain the under-roof collar at the level of a second collar element of the first assembly.

[0007] The second retaining mechanism allows the underlayment collar to be held in an extended, or even stretched, state during folding, thus enabling better contact between the tool elements and the underlayment collar at the tool element(s) furthest from the first retaining mechanism. Furthermore, the retention provided by the second retaining mechanism can help maintain the underlayment collar in its intended position or state when the tool elements release the folded underlayment collar, thereby helping, for example, to prevent unintentional unfolding.

[0008] The first and second retaining mechanisms can each cause complete fixation of the respective collar element of the first assembly or simply impede the movement of the respective collar element. One retaining mechanism may provide fixation while the other only provides an obstacle to movement.

[0009] In one embodiment, the second retaining mechanism comprises a pair of clamping elements configured to clamp a section of the second collar element of the first assembly together. This embodiment is well suited to achieving complete fastening of the second collar element.

[0010] In another embodiment, the second retaining mechanism includes a clamping element configured to press against another element of the bending tool, thereby pressing a section of the second collar element of the first assembly against it. By way of example, the clamping element can press the second collar element against a tool element. Such embodiments are well suited to hindering the movement of the second collar element by providing friction between the second collar element and the other element of the bending tool.

[0011] The second retention mechanism may be mobile and / or comprise several Retaining positions allow the underlayment collar to be held in several different positions. This can be advantageous, for example, in embodiments where the second retaining mechanism allows slight displacement of the second collar element under the influence of friction, as described above. A second retaining mechanism with multiple retaining positions may include two or more retaining elements configured to engage the second collar element at different stages of the folding process.

[0012] The activation mechanism can be configured to move two sets of tool elements horizontally relative to each other to change the mutual positions of the sets. It is also possible to use a set consisting of two tool elements, which set is horizontally movable relative to a single tool element. Alternatively, the activation mechanism can be configured to move each of the tool elements independently of the others. One or more tool elements may be fixed and / or the direction of movement of one or more tools may be non-horizontal, as long as the mutual movement between the tool elements and the underlayment collar results in a bending of the underlayment collar.

[0013] The activation mechanism may, for example, include pneumatic cylinders adapted to move each tool element and may be computer-controlled. As another example, a mechanical activation mechanism driven by a motor may be used, such as a driven gear engaging with a rack or belt.

[0014] The activation mechanism can also, or alternatively, be configured to rotate one or more tool elements around their own length direction and / or to activate one or more conveyors on the surface of one or more tool elements. Such conveyors will be described in more detail below.

[0015] In one embodiment, the activation mechanism is also configured to move the tool elements in their length directions, which can facilitate the removal of the under-roof collar from the bending tool or vice versa.

[0016] The first retaining mechanism may include, for example, a pair of clamping elements, such as rail elements, configured to clamp a section of the first collar element of the first assembly together, or a clamping element configured to press against another element of the bending tool, as described above with reference to the second retaining mechanism, thereby pressing a section of the first collar element of the first assembly against it. Other means for retaining or fastening may also be used, including fasteners or dowels for one or both retaining mechanisms. The rail elements provide linear support for the underlayment collar, which may, for example, prevent subsidence, and are therefore considered advantageous for both restraint mechanisms.

[0017] To facilitate folding, one or both of the retaining mechanisms may be movable in a vertical direction. This will allow the first retaining mechanism to move closer to the tool elements as the folding progresses and the underlayment collar material expands into the resulting folds.

[0018] The bending tool may further include a support surface for holding the underlayment collar in a substantially horizontal position and / or a release mechanism to facilitate the removal of the underlayment collar from the tool elements or vice versa. The support surface may include a table and / or a conveyor belt on which the underlayment collar can rest. The release mechanism may, for example, include clamping devices for holding the underlayment collar during retraction of the tool elements and / or for pulling on the underlayment collar.

[0019] The tool elements may be rod-shaped or plate-shaped. A plate-shaped tool element has two major dimensions, one in the length direction and one in the width direction, which is perpendicular to the length direction, and a minor dimension in the height direction, which is perpendicular to both the length and width directions. When the tool element moves in a substantially horizontal direction during bending, the height direction will be substantially vertical.

[0020] In one embodiment, at least one of the tool elements includes a conveyor configured to move the underlayment collar relative to the tool element. The conveyor may contribute to the bending process by actively moving the underlayment collar, or it may simply move to avoid friction between the tool element and the underlayment collar. The conveyor may, for example, include one or more flat or round belts.

[0021] It is considered advantageous here that the length of the tool elements be longer than the length of the collar elements of the first assembly, to ensure that the tool elements will engage the under-roof collar along its entire length.

[0022] The invention also relates to a packaged under-roof collar intended to be used to seal the joint between a roof structure and a window frame, the under-roof collar having been folded using a folding tool described above.

[0023] Another aspect of the invention relates to the use of a folding tool, as described above, for packaging a roofing collar intended for use in sealing a joint between a roof structure and a window frame, said roofing collar comprising a first set of collar elements and a a second set of collar elements extending perpendicularly to the first set of collar elements, said collar elements being configured to extend along the frame elements of a rectangular window frame in an assembled state, each collar element comprising an internal flange portion and an external skirt portion intended to engage with the roof structure, and said internal flange portions together defining a collar opening, in which each collar element has a length extending parallel to the internal flange portion, in which each collar element comprises a central section extending between the collar elements of the other set of collar elements along the collar opening,in which the underlayment collar has an inner side adapted to face the roof structure and window frame in a mounted state and an opposite outer side adapted to be oriented away from the roof structure and window frame in a mounted state, in which the use of the bending tool includes the steps of: , A) retention of the first collar element of the first assembly using the first retention mechanism and authorization for the other collar elements to hang from this collar element under the influence of gravity, B) retention of a second collar element of the first assembly using the second retention mechanism, and (c) moving the tool elements in contact with the underlayment collar in directions that are substantially perpendicular to their respective length directions, such that at least one tool element engages the inner side of the underlayment collar and at least one tool element engages the outer side of the underlayment collar, and continuing to move the tool elements until the tool element engaging the inner side of the underlayment collar has passed a plane defined by the outer side in the suspension position in step A), and / or the tool element engaging the outer side of the underlayment collar has passed a plane defined by the inner side in the suspension position in step A).thus moving the underlayment collar and folding the underlayment collar along two or more fold lines extending substantially parallel to the length of the collar elements of the first assembly.

[0024] When used, the tool elements act as supports that grip and displace the material of the underlayment collar so that it folds over each tool element along a fold line extending parallel to the length of the tool element. When the tool elements are then retracted from the underlayment collar, or when the underlayment collar is removed from the folding tool, the folds will remain, leaving the underlayment collar in a folded state.

[0025] In other words, the tool elements move on the underlayment collar in The tools are suspended from opposite sides and push the underlayment collar in front of them, so that each tool element creates a bend, forcing the underlayment collar into a zigzag configuration where sections of the collar extend from one tool element to the next. The angle of these sections of the underlayment collar relative to each other and to the initial vertical orientation of the collar will depend on the mutual distance between the tool elements in the vertical direction and the distance over which the tool elements are displaced. Another factor influencing the resulting configuration of the underlayment collar is the cross-sectional shape and size of the tool elements. It is considered advantageous here that the tool elements have a circular cross-section with a diameter of at least 10 mm so that the main folds created on the under-roof collar are not sharply defined and the under-roof collar can slide over the tool elements as they pass through.

[0026] The restraint in step B) does not necessarily have to be established before the start of step C) and it does not need to be continuous. It can be intermittent and / or applied with a variable force.

[0027] It is considered advantageous here that two sets of tool elements be moved relative to each other in order to change their mutual positions, but it is also possible to move the tool elements independently and / or to keep one or more tool elements fixed during at least a certain part of step C). One or more tool elements may remain inactive during certain uses, for example during the bending of small under-roof collars.

[0028] A conveyor on a tool element can be used to move the underlay collar on the tool element during at least part of step C).

[0029] In one embodiment, the operation further includes step D) of arranging at least a portion of the underlayment collar so that it rests on a support surface and retracting the tool elements. However, it is also possible, for example, to remove the underlayment collar from the bending tool in order to change the angle of the tool elements so that the underlayment collar slides off the bending tool, or to use a combination of steps resulting in the underlayment collar being removed from the bending tool.

[0030] In one embodiment, the first set of collar elements consists of upper and lower collar elements configured to extend along the upper and lower frame elements of a rectangular window frame, and the under-roof collar is folded so that at least a portion of the central section of each side collar element is arranged on top of or below the upper collar element, the lower collar element, and / or a section of the side collar element that is continuous with the upper collar element or the collar element. lower, when viewed in the length direction of said upper collar element or lower collar element, and such that the upper collar element and the lower collar element are arranged one on top of the other.

[0031] The length of the tool elements used is preferably longer than the length of the collar elements of the first set so that a fold extending over the entire underlayment collar is created by one tool element. However, it is also possible to use tool elements that each engage only with one of the collar elements of the second set, i.e., using one set of tool elements on one side of the underlayment collar and another set of tool elements on the other side of the underlayment collar.

[0032] In addition to the movement pattern of the tool elements, the surface properties of the tool elements can influence the resulting configuration of the bent underlayment collar. If the tool elements have a smooth surface, the underlayment collar material can slide over their surfaces, whereas a rough or profiled surface can result in friction against the underlayment collar material, thereby holding it in place. Not all tool elements need to be identical, and differences in surface properties can help control the bending of the underlayment collar. It is even possible to provide conveyors, such as belts, cables, or rollers, on the surface of one or more tool elements. By activating such conveyors, the underlayment collar can be forced to move relative to the tool element in question.A similar effect can be achieved by rotating a tool element with a rough or profiled surface around its length direction.

[0033] All tool elements should preferably remain parallel to each other at all stages of the bending process to ensure that the folds are parallel, but a slight mutual inclination of the tool elements may be advantageous when releasing the under-roof collar from the bending tool in order to reduce friction between the tool elements and the under-roof collar.

[0034] Regardless of how the bending tool is implemented, its use may further include one or more of the following steps: E) folding the underlayment collar along a secondary fold line extending substantially perpendicular to the main fold lines so that the collar elements of the second set are arranged on the underside or underside of the collar elements of the first set, and / or F) folding of the underlayment collar along a tertiary folding line extending substantially parallel to the main folding lines.

[0035] This results in the folded or packed underlayment collar becoming more compact and potentially in only one collar element being exposed to the packaged state. It is preferred here that the underlayment collar be folded along two secondary fold lines, each coinciding substantially with the inner edge of a collar element from the second assembly. The fold along a tertiary fold may be made before or after the fold along one or more secondary fold lines, or the underlayment collar may be folded along two or more tertiary fold lines, possibly both before and after a fold along one or more secondary fold lines. The fold along the secondary and / or tertiary fold lines may be made by hand or using a folding tool. Brief description of the drawings

[0046] With reference first to [Fig. 1], the assembly of a roof underlayment collar 1 around a window frame 2 installed in a pitched roof structure 3 comprising a roof underlayment 31 is shown. The packaged roof underlayment collar is arranged with an upper collar element 11 at the level of the upper frame element 21 of the window frame and unfolded as shown by the arrows. In this way, the lateral collar elements 12 of the roof underlayment collar extend along the frame elements 22 of the window frame, and the lower collar element 13 is finally arranged along the lower frame element 23. The upper and lower collar elements 11, 13 constitute here a first set of collar elements, and the elements of The lateral collars 12 constitute a second set of collar elements extending perpendicularly to the first set of collar elements. Each collar element 11, 12, 13 comprises an internal rim portion 121, 131 and an external skirt portion 112, 122, 132. The internal portions define a collar opening 10 and are oriented so that they are perpendicular to the skirt portions and will thus be parallel to the vertical external portions of the upper, lower, and lateral elements of the window frame 2 in the assembled state and will abut against them. An inner side of the outer skirt sections comes into contact with the underlayment 31 and the battens 32 of the roof structure, while the outer side 15, which is grey in [Fig. 1], is oriented outwards and deflects precipitation, for example rain or snow, from the joint between the roof structure 3 and the window frame 2.

[0047] In order to facilitate the assembly of the under-roof collar 1, it is delivered in a packaged state, in which it is folded several times.

[0048] A method for automatically folding a roofing under-collar 1 is illustrated in Figures 2 to 4, and [Fig.5] represents the resulting folded roofing under-collar.

[0049] In [Fig. 2], the underlayment collar 1 is arranged in a folding tool 4, extending between a first retaining mechanism 41, which secures a first collar element of a first assembly, and a second retaining mechanism 46, which retains a second collar element of the first assembly. The underlayment collar is represented simply as a line, since it is preferably arranged in a flattened state before being folded, but it will be understood that the presence, for example, of internal flange sections 121, 131, may result, in certain sections of the underlayment collar, in them appearing slightly thicker than the others. Similarly, the presence of pleats on the lateral collar elements 12 may result in them being slightly thicker than the upper and lower collar elements 11, 13.The invention is not limited to the folding of an under-roof collar having the exact characteristics represented in [Fig.1].

[0050] In this embodiment, the first retaining mechanism 41 and the second retaining mechanism 46 each comprise two rail elements, each rail element having a triangular cross-section and extending in the plane of the drawing, and the underlayment collar 1 is fixed and retained by the collar elements of the first assembly, which are clamped together. The fixing and retention can, however, also be achieved in a different manner, as long as the underlayment collars are held securely.

[0051] Five tool elements 42 are arranged between the first retaining mechanism 41 and the second retaining mechanism 46, a first set 421 of two tool elements on one side of the under-roof collar 1 and a second set 422 of three tool elements on the opposite side. In one embodiment, each tool element is a rod, having a circular cross-section and extending in the plane of the drawing, and each is connected to an activation mechanism (not shown) of the bending tool 4 configured to move the tool element in directions substantially perpendicular to its length direction, i.e. in the plane of the drawing.

[0052] To begin folding the underlayment collar 1, the tool elements 42 are moved horizontally into contact with the underlayment, as shown in [Fig.3]. In this case, the first set 421 of tool elements engages the inner side 14 of the underlayment collar and the second set 422 of tool elements engages the outer side 15 of the underlayment collar. As can be seen, the first set of tool elements is positioned approximately at the center of the under-roof collar, i.e. at the central sections of the lateral collar elements 12. In order to be able to engage with the two lateral collar elements 12, it is preferable that the tool elements 42 have a length in the direction extending over the drawing on [Fig.2], which is longer than the length of the upper and lower collar elements 11, 13, i.e. the collar elements of the first set. However, it is also possible to use a plurality of sets of tool elements 42 which each engage one of the collar elements of the second set, i.e. the lateral collar elements 12 in this embodiment.

[0053] As also shown in [Fig. 3], the movement of the tool elements 42 continues until the tool elements engaging the inner side 14 of the underlayment collar 1 have passed a plane defined by the outer side 15 in the extended position shown in [Fig. 2], and the tool elements 42 engaging the outer side 15 have passed a plane defined by the inner side 14 in the suspended position. In this way, the underlayment collar 1 is moved by the tool elements 42 and brought into a zigzag configuration with a flexible fold at each tool element 42, the tool elements 42 thus defining a maximum of five main fold lines extending substantially parallel to the length of the collar elements of the first assembly. As the folding progresses, the under-roof collar 1 moves along the tool elements 42 and the distance between the first retaining mechanism 41 and the second retaining mechanism 46 is reduced to maintain the extended under-roof collar at a constant rate and prevent excessive stretching.

[0054] The distance covered by the tool elements 42 during their movement may depend on the size of the underlayment collar 1. A longer movement will allow the folding of a larger underlayment collar.

[0055] It is also possible to modify the number of tool elements used, for example, by adding one or more additional tool elements or by using some of them only for bending longer underlayment collars, leaving them inactive when bending shorter underlayment collars. To allow flexibility when using the tool elements, each tool element can be individually movable. This can also allow for a more complex bending pattern by enabling the positioning of bends in different planes.

[0056] In [Fig. 4], the first retaining mechanism and the second retaining mechanism (not shown) have released their gripping devices so that section 16 of the underlayment collar 1, previously extending between the lowest tool element and the second retaining mechanism, rests on a support surface 43, while section 17, previously extending between the highest tool element and the first retaining mechanism, has fallen onto the adjacent section. While the use of five tool elements allows for the formation of five fold lines, the use of the folding tool shown in Figures 2 to 4 results in four main fold lines. It should also be understood that if a different number of tool elements are used, the number of folds, and consequently the number of sections, will be different.Arranging the under-roof collar so that section 16 of the under-roof collar 1, which previously extends between the lowest tool element and the second retaining mechanism, rests on a support surface 43, may involve the displacement of the entire bending tool 4, the tool elements 42 and / or the support surface 43.

[0057] The bending tools 42 can now be retracted in one direction in or out of the drawing plane or by moving them in a horizontal direction, or the underlayment collar can be removed from the tool elements. The underlayment collar is thus left in the state shown in [Fig. 5].

[0058] Figure 6 shows a smaller underlayment collar folded along three main fold lines II indicated by the dashed lines, and in which the upper collar element 11 and the lower collar element 13 are arranged one on top of the other. This folding can be achieved using only three of the five tool elements 42 of the folding tool 4 in Figure 2. The first retaining mechanism 41 and the second retaining mechanism 46 would then be arranged closer together in the initial state than shown in Figure 2, corresponding to the size of the underlayment collar.

[0059] The actual folds on the underlayment collar 1 may not be exactly linear due to the flexible nature of the material typically used for underlayment collars and the relatively large diameter of the tool elements 42. If folds If sharper cuts are required or desired, tool elements with a smaller diameter can be used. It is considered advantageous here for at least part of the underlayment collar 1 to rest on a support surface 43 during the release of the tool elements 42, as this provides good control of the relatively flexible bent material.

[0060] To make the wrapped underlayment collar more compact, it can be further folded along secondary and / or tertiary fold lines, which are indicated by the dashed lines II-II and III-III and represented by arrows a and b, respectively, in [Fig. 6], resulting in the configurations shown in [Fig. 7] and [Fig. 8], respectively. While the secondary and tertiary fold lines II, III are shown as extending along the edges of the collar elements, it should be understood that they can be positioned differently, for example, depending on the overall size of the underlayment collar 1 and the desired shape of the wrapped underlayment collar.

[0061] Another bending tool 4 for bending a roofing collar 1 is shown in [Fig. 9]. In this embodiment, the roofing collar 1 is initially arranged in a horizontal position on a conveyor 45, illustrated here as a roller conveyor, and then passes over the edge of the conveyor on the right side in [Fig. 9]. Through this movement, the roofing collar passes between five tool elements 42, which are configured to move laterally in substantially the same way as described with reference to Figures 2 to 4. The leading end of the roofing collar 1 is gripped by a second retaining mechanism 46, which is implemented here as in [Fig. 2], and the trailing end of the roofing collar 1 is held by a first retaining mechanism 41 during bending. The bending takes place in the same manner as described with reference to Figures 2 to 4.When the tool elements have reached their outermost position, as shown in [Fig.4], the trailing end section 17 exits the conveyor 45 and falls onto the adjacent sections of the under-roof collar 1, thus ending up in the position shown in [Fig.4], where the under-roof collar 1 is ready to be released from the bending tool.

[0062] The tool elements 42 can be the sole driving elements of the bending process so that the underlayment collar is simply removed from the conveyor 45. The tool elements can simply pull on the underlayment collar by moving it, but one or more of them can also be driven in rotation and have a high coefficient of friction in contact with the underlayment collar or be provided with a conveyor belt passing over it / them. In this way, the tool elements can remove the underlayment collar from the conveyor, which can then be passive or only active during an initial phase of the process. folding.

[0063] The observations presented with respect to the bending along the secondary and tertiary bend lines shown with reference to Figures 6 to 8 and the bending process illustrated in Figures 2 to 5 also apply to the bending of Figures 9 to 11, even if the mutual positioning of the tool elements is not necessarily the same.

[0064] Fig. 10 represents another folding tool 4 in a perspective view.

[0065] Here, the underlayment collar 1 is brought onto a conveyor 45 under the bending tool 4, which can, for example, be a flat conveyor belt, and the first retaining mechanism 41 is a fastener configured to be lowered between the tool elements 42 to catch a leading edge of the underlayment collar and lift it into the position shown in [Fig. 10]. The fastener is shown here open for clarity of illustration and can represent a series of fasteners.

[0066] The tool elements 42 are plate-shaped with major dimensions extending in a length direction L, as described for the rod-shaped tool elements above, and in a width direction W. This allows the tool elements 42 to also constitute support surfaces for the under-roof collar 1.

[0067] The second retaining mechanism 46 is also here a fastener, possibly representing a series of fasteners and is arranged at the conveyor 45. When the under-roof collar is folded, the second retaining mechanism moves along the conveyor, while the first retaining mechanism 41 is held fixed.

[0068] When the bending tool 4 in [Fig. 10] is used, the tool elements 42 are moved in the same way as described with reference to Figures 2 to 4, i.e., in a horizontal direction, and the second retaining mechanism 46 is moved forward until it is positioned below the leading edges of the first set 421 of tool elements. The first retaining mechanism 41 then releases the underlayment collar, and the tool elements 42 are retracted into their original positions shown in [Fig. 10], resulting in the underlayment collar being bent, as shown in [Fig. 5], and resting on the conveyor 45 serving as a support surface 43 in [Fig. 4].

[0069] The uppermost tool element 42 is provided here with four round conveyor belts 423 evenly spaced on the tool element. By moving these conveyor belts on the tool element, the folding and release of the underlayment collar can be facilitated.

[0070] Figure 11 shows yet another bending tool 4, which is identical to that of Figure 10, except for the embodiment of the second retaining mechanism 46, shown here only in a side view. In this embodiment, the conveyor 45 is configured to be lifted, as shown by the open arrows. so that the underlayment collar 1 is pressed against the underside of the lowest tool element 42. The conveyor 45 thus serves as a second retaining mechanism 46. It is possible to lift the entire conveyor or only sections of the conveyor, as indicated by the two groups of arrows. If, for example, the conveyor is a flat conveyor belt, an activator (not shown) provided under the belt, i.e., opposite the belt from the lowest tool element 42, can be used to lift the belt 45 locally in contact with the tool element. Such an activator can also be rolling or movable to follow the forward movement of the underlayment collar and / or to provide several retaining positions to hold the underlayment collar in several different positions, for example, to allow the folding of underlayment collars of different sizes.

[0071] The bending tools 4 in Figures 10 and 11 are described as having plate-shaped tool elements 42, whereas the bending tools in [Fig. 2] and [Fig. 9] are described as having rod-shaped tool elements. It should be understood that bending tools, like those in Figures 10 and 11, can also be described as having plate-shaped tool elements 42, and that bending tools, like those in [Fig. 2] and [Fig. 9], can have plate-shaped tool elements.
