Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: Drilling equipment management system and computer program product
[0001] The invention relates to the field of drilling equipment management systems.
[0002] The oil and gas extraction industry must manage large stocks of drilling equipment for extracting oil or gas. This mainly concerns metal tubes for the well casing strings, but also pumps, valves, gas / oil separation devices, filtration devices, and even equipment constituting the well head, or even what is called the "Christmas tree", etc.
[0003] In this document, the case of tubes will be used more particularly, but this is only an illustrative example and any other drilling equipment could be considered.
[0004] Currently, each tube bears a marking made with paint. This marking is, for example, painted, at the end of a production line, by the tube supplier.
[0005] This marking consists of inscribing, along a generatrix of the external surface of the tube, a series of information allowing identification of the tube, such as for example its serial number, the type of thread with which it is provided, its length, etc.
[0006] However, during the life of the tube, this painted mark gradually disappears, for example due to environmental storage conditions (warehouse of a land base located in a tropical climate), or due to the conditions of use (rotation of the tube in the well and wear by friction of its external surface or aggression of the paint by the chemical products used).
[0007] However, a tube that has lost its marking is no longer identifiable. It therefore loses its certification. It can no longer be used on a drilling well since its characteristics can no longer be determined with certainty.
[0008] As a result, tubes that have lost their markings are piling up in storage warehouses at the operator's various sites. They have no use. Their only future is to be sold at the price of scrap metal.
[0009] Furthermore, even if it remains identifiable thanks to the painted mark it bears, a tube is always subject to additional checks. For example, when a tube is received on a drilling platform, an inspector begins by measuring it again to determine its length with certainty, without relying on documentation that would be accessible by simple identification of the tube.
[0010] Depending on the length of the tubes received, the inspector draws up a list order of the tubes to be successively lowered into the well to form the casing string. Based on this list, he applies a second marking to the paint on each tube indicating the order number of this tube along the casing string. This second marking is independent of the first, which is therefore of little use.
[0011] The invention therefore aims to propose a system for managing drilling equipment making it possible to make the identification of the equipment more reliable in order to guarantee that it remains certifiable throughout its life.
[0012] For this purpose, the invention relates to a drilling equipment management system, the system comprising: a first user terminal, programmed so as to comprise: an interface module adapted to allow a first operator to enter a plurality of identification information relating to a particular drilling equipment; a calculation module adapted to calculate a control key for each identification information of the plurality of identification information; and a module for generating an identification code of the drilling equipment from the plurality of identification information and the corresponding control keys; an engraving device, adapted to engrave, on said drilling equipment, the identification code generated by the first user terminal;a second user terminal, equipped with a camera adapted to acquire at least one image of the identification code engraved on the drilling equipment, the second terminal being programmed to execute: a character recognition module, adapted to extract from the image acquired by the camera a plurality of estimated identification information and a plurality of estimated control keys; a verification module, adapted to verify consistency between each estimated identification information and the corresponding estimated control key; and an interface module, adapted to display on a screen of the second user terminal the estimated information and the result of the verification of each estimated identification information, to allow a second operator to validate the estimated identification information as identification information read on the drilling equipment;a management center, comprising a database adapted to store, following validation carried out by the second user terminal, the read identification information received by the second terminal in a new entry in the database for the drilling equipment.;

[0025] The invention also relates to a computer program comprising software instructions which, when executed by a computer, implement a method in accordance with the preceding method.
[0026] The invention and its advantages will be better understood on reading the detailed description which follows of a particular embodiment, given solely as an illustrative and non-limiting example, this description being made with reference to attached drawings on which: - [Fig.l] [Fig.l] is a schematic representation of a preferred embodiment of a drilling equipment management system according to the invention; and, - [Fig.2] [Fig.2] is a block representation of a mode of implementation of a management process using the system of [Fig.l].
[0027] Generally speaking, the invention is based on the engraving of an alphanumeric identification code on each piece of equipment, and the use of a computer program, preferably executed on a user terminal of the mobile phone or tablet type, implementing an optical character recognition algorithm - OCR ("Optical Character Recognition" in English) - allowing the automatic reading of the identification code carried by a piece of equipment of interest. The coupling of this computer program with a server backed by a database allows the operator using the terminal to obtain and / or update information relating to this piece of equipment of interest.
[0028] Referring to [Fig.l], a preferred embodiment of the management system according to the invention will be presented.
[0029] The management system 1 comprises different components, each component being dedicated to carrying out a particular phase.
[0030] Thus, the system 1 comprises a first component, or etching component, 100 for etching drilling equipment, such as a metal tube 101.
[0031] The component 100 comprises a first platform 110, advantageously a client station 112, used by a supplier operator 113 of the tube 101, a first user terminal 120, used by a recording operator 123 of the tube 101, and a recording device 140.
[0032] The platform 110 comprises for example a server 114 and a database 116.
[0033] The server 114 is accessible by the client station 112 and the user terminal 120 via a network, such as the internet network 5.
[0034] The user terminal 120 is for example a mobile telephone of the smartphone type, or even a tablet.
[0035] The user terminal 120 is capable of connecting to the Internet 5 via an air link, for example of the GSM type. To do this, the user terminal 120 is equipped with suitable radio communication means.
[0036] The user terminal 120 is a computer in the sense that it comprises calculation means such as a processor and storage means such as a random access memory or a read-only memory. The memory stores in particular the instructions of a computer program 130, the execution of which by the computer makes it possible to provide the terminal 120 with certain functionalities.
[0037] In particular, the program 130 can be broken down into different modules, each performing a functionality. The program 130 thus comprises a human-machine interface module HMI 132, a control key calculation module 134, a code generation module 136 and advantageously a control module 138 for controlling the engraving device 140.
[0038] Platform 110 is accessible to all tube suppliers working with the operator.
[0039] The client station 112 allows the supplier operator to enter information relating to the tubes manufactured.
[0040] The information entered includes, for each tube, identification information and advantageously documentation information.
[0041] The identification information includes, for example, an order number (corresponding to the order placed by the operator with the supplier), an equipment number in the order, a serial number of the equipment, as well as at least one piece of technical information relating to the equipment, such as, for a tube, its length, the type of thread with which it is provided, etc.
[0042] The documentary information groups together all other information that may be of interest, for example the state of the equipment (this state may take different predefined values such as “active”, “surplus”, “obsolete” or “quarantine”), the technical documentation relating to the equipment (indicating for example the nature of the metal used to manufacture the tube, the date of manufacture of the tube, normative data, etc.), information relating to the inspections to which the equipment has been subject (such as the date of the last inspection), and / or the status of the equipment completing the purchase order (this status may take different predefined values such as “in production”, “delivered”, etc.).
[0043] The execution of the program 130 allows the generation of an identification code for a tube. This identification code is unique so as to allow traceability of the equipment.
[0044] When executing the program 130, the HMI module 132 is called to display an interface on a screen of the terminal 120 so as to allow the engraving operator 123 to enter a plurality of N identification information for the tube 101
[0045] Advantageously, the module 132 accesses the platform 110 to facilitate the recovery by the operator 123 of the required identification information. For example, the module 132 pre-fills the fields of the interface displayed on the screen of the terminal 120 with the values extracted from the database 116.
[0046] The HMI module 132 makes it possible to display the N identification information entered on a screen of the terminal 120 so as to allow the engraving operator to check the value of each identification information and possibly to edit them for the modify or supplement them.
[0047] In the currently preferred embodiment, N is equal to 4 and the information entered includes the order number, the equipment number in the order, the serial number of the equipment and the length of the tube.
[0048] The control key calculation module 134 is adapted to calculate a control key for each piece of identification information entered in the interface of the HMI module.
[0049] Thus, N control keys are calculated.
[0050] A control key preferably consists of a small number of alphanumeric characters. For example, two characters are used. This is to make it easily recognizable by the OCR module.
[0051] The control key for information is for example obtained by using a hash function on the sum of the constituent characters of the corresponding information, expressed in hexadecimal.
[0052] The control key is unique for each possible value of the information it encrypts.
[0053] Once the control keys are obtained, the generation module 136 is called. The module 136 is adapted to generate a code from the N information and the N keys.
[0054] Preferably, the code comprises N lines. Each line groups together information and the associated control key.
[0055] More precisely, the ith line of the code presents the ith information followed by the ith control key.
[0056] Advantageously, the information and the control key are separated from each other by a predefined character. For example, the character “==” is used.
[0057] More preferably, each line begins and ends with a predefined character, again to help the OCR module identify the beginning and end of a line. This predefined character is advantageously repeated at the beginning of the line or at the end of the line, to distinguish the beginning and end of a line.
[0058] Advantageously, the predefined character of a line changes from one line to another. It is therefore specific to a line, that is to say to the type of information mentioned in this line. For example, the character ">" is used for identification information of the type "Order No.", the character "<" is used for identification information of the type "Serial No.", the character "%" is used for identification information of the type "Equipment No." and the character "@" is used for identification information of the type "length.",
[0059] Preferably, the identification information is directly included in the code without attempting to transform it, so that a human operator can read it directly on the marked equipment. This makes it possible to make the code readable by the operator in the event that the user terminal is not working and automatic character recognition is not available. It should be noted that if the code takes the form of, for example, a QR code (“Quick Response code”), it could not be read directly by an operator.
[0060] Advantageously, the code includes an additional line summarizing the control keys for the various pieces of information.
[0061] The following table provides an example of code grouping the following values of the identification information and the associated control keys.
[0062] [Tables 1] Information Type Value Key Code Order No. 45688902 UC »45688902==UC> «12==PL< %%NJKG==VU% @@123==N3@ ++UC=PL=VU=N3+ Serial No. 12 PL Equipment No. NJKG VU length 123 N3
[0063] The device 140 is adapted to engrave the identification code.
[0064] Advantageously, the module 138 of the terminal 120 is executed so as to control the engraving device 140 following the generation of a code by the module 136. In a simple manner, the module 138 transmits to the device 140 the code to be engraved.
[0065] For the actual etching, the tube 101 is placed on a bench and an articulated arm of the device 140 makes it possible to present the area of the tube to be etched correctly with respect to the etching means of the device 140.
[0066] Preferably, the engraving device 140 is a device of the vibration engraving type. A ball located at the end of the tip 142 is set in motion so as to impact the external surface of the tube 101 so as to create an impact point there. By moving the tip relative to the tube, the code is engraved. The engraved code thus takes the form of a succession of impact points.
[0067] This etching technique is preferable since it does not cause any microcracks in the metal of the equipment. However, it is known that microcracks are a cause of corrosion initiation, which is particularly detrimental in the field of oil or gas exploitation.
[0068] Furthermore, the thickness of the tube is only slightly reduced, which does not reduce its mechanical resistance.
[0069] The system 1 comprises a second component, or verification component, 200.
[0070] This component comprises a second platform 210, which associates for example a central database 216 and a server 214, and a second user terminal 220, which is usable by a verification operator 223.
[0071] The second terminal 220 is adapted to access the server 214 and the database 216 via, for example, a mobile telephone network and the Internet 5.
[0072] The second terminal 220 integrates a camera 222 allowing the acquisition of an image or a succession of images of the area of a tube, such as the tube 201, bearing the identification code, such as the code 203.
[0073] The second terminal 220 executes a second program 230 integrating an OCR module 231, an HMI module 232 and a verification module 233.
[0074] The OCR module 231 is coupled to the camera 222. When called, the OCR module 231 allows the operator to acquire at least one image of the code 203 by means of the camera 222.
[0075] The OCR module 231 is adapted to carry out an automatic reading of the identification code from the image just acquired by the camera 222.
[0076] The OCR module 231 is adapted to deliver N estimated information as well as N estimated control keys.
[0077] The verification module 233 is adapted to verify the consistency of each pair consisting of an estimated information and the corresponding estimated key. N verification results are obtained at output.
[0078] The HMI module 232 is adapted to present in an interface displayed on the screen of the second terminal 220, the result of the recognition carried out by the module 231 and of the verification carried out by the module 233.
[0079] The human-machine interface 232 is adapted to display, for example, N fields, each corresponding to a type of identification information. Each field is pre-filled with the identification information estimated by the OCR module 231.
[0080] Furthermore, in the event of successful verification by the verification module 233, the estimated information is for example displayed on a green background. On the contrary, in the event of failed verification, the information is displayed on a red background.
[0081] The verification operator 223 is invited to correct the estimate resulting from the character recognition by comparing what is displayed on the screen of the second terminal 120 and what it can read directly on the code 203 engraved on the tube 201.
[0082] The verification operator thus performs a control operation of the prediction made by the OCR algorithm and possibly corrects this estimate before validating the identification information displayed on the screen.
[0083] Following validation, the program 230 transmits the information recognized by the OCR module to the server 214.
[0084] When receiving this identification information, the server 214 checks that it does not correspond to equipment already registered in the central database. 216, and, if so, then creates a new entry in the central database 216.
[0085] An entry in the base 216 comprises an absolute identifier of the equipment, followed by the four identification information resulting from the OCR recognition, preferably also with the four control keys associated with this information resulting from the OCR recognition.
[0086] The server 214, when creating a new entry, is adapted to collect additional information, for example documentary information from the platform 110 of the supplier of this equipment.
[0087] The system 1 finally comprises a third component, or inspection component, 300.
[0088] Component 300 is deployed to various sites, including those of the operator, such as an onshore storage base or an offshore drilling platform. It may also be deployed to the supplier's site for primary inspection of the equipment upon delivery of the equipment to the operator.
[0089] The component 300 comprises a third user terminal 320. It advantageously comprises a third platform 310 grouping together, for example, a server 314 backed by a local database 316.
[0090] The third terminal 320 is adapted to allow an inspection operator 323 to carry out an inspection of the tubes received at the site concerned. This inspection is based on the identification of a tube, for example the tube 301, from the identification code that it carries, such as the code 303 for the tube 301.
[0091] The third terminal 320 is adapted to access the server 214 and the database 216 and / or the server 314 and the database 316 via, for example, a mobile telephone network and the Internet 5.
[0092] The third terminal 320 integrates a camera 322 allowing the acquisition of an image or a succession of images of the area of a tube, such as the tube 301, bearing the identification code, such as the code 303.
[0093] The third terminal 320 executes a third program 330.
[0094] The program 330 comprises an OCR module 331, an HMI module 332, a validation module 333 and an extraction module 335.
[0095] The OCR module 331 is coupled to the camera 322. When called, the OCR module 331 allows the inspection operator 323 to acquire at least one image of the code 303 using the camera 322.
[0096] The OCR module 331 is adapted to perform automatic reading of the identification code from the image just acquired.
[0097] The OCR module 331 is adapted to deliver N estimated identification information as well as the N estimated control keys associated with this information. identification.
[0098] The verification module 333 is adapted to verify the consistency between an estimated identification information and the corresponding estimated key. N verification results are obtained at the output of the module 333.
[0099] The HMI module 332 is adapted to present, in an interface displayed on the screen of the second terminal 220, the results of the recognition carried out by the module 331 and of the verification carried out by the module 333.
[0100] The interface presented on the screen comprises, for example, N fields, each corresponding to a type of identification information. Each field is pre-filled with the identification information estimated by the OCR module 331.
[0101] Furthermore, in the event of successful verification by the verification module 333, the estimated identification information is for example displayed on a green background. On the contrary, in the event of failed verification, the estimated identification information is displayed on a red background.
[0102] Preferably, the inspection operator 323 is invited to correct the erroneous information resulting from the character recognition by comparing what is displayed on the screen of the third terminal 320 and what it can read directly on the code 303 engraved on the tube 301. The inspection operator thus carries out a control operation of the prediction carried out by the OCR algorithm and possibly corrects this estimate before validating the identification information displayed on the screen.
[0103] Following validation, the program 330 is adapted to transmit the information estimated by the OCR module to the local server 314.
[0104] The central server 314 is adapted to verify that the inspection information it receives from the terminal 320 corresponds to an entry in the central base 216. For this, the local server 314 is adapted to interrogate the central server 214.
[0105] If so, the central server 214 extracts from the base 216 and retransmits to the local server 314 the information it has on the equipment that has just been identified.
[0106] The local server 314 is adapted to, upon response from the central server, create a new entry in the local database 316 with the information received from the central server 214.
[0107] The local server 314 is adapted to, upon creation of a new entry, transmit a message to the third terminal 320 indicating a successful inspection.
[0108] The extraction module 335 allows the inspection operator 323 to interact with the content of the local database 316.
[0109] Referring to [Fig.2], a preferred embodiment of a method of using the management system according to the invention will be presented.
[0110] The method 1000 comprises a phase 1100 of etching drilling equipment. like a metal tube 101.
[0111] In a step 1101, the provider operator 113 uses the station 112 to interact with the web platform 110.
[0112] It enters identification and documentation information relating to the tubes manufactured in order to enrich the database 116.
[0113] The identification information includes, for example, an order number (corresponding to the order placed by the operator with the supplier), an equipment number in the order, a serial number of the equipment, as well as at least one piece of technical information relating to the equipment, such as, for a tube, its length, the type of thread it is provided with, etc.
[0114] Documentary information includes all other information that may be of interest, such as documents, etc.
[0115] In a step 1102, when the engraving operator 123 wishes to mark a blank tube coming out of the supplier's production line, such as the tube 101, it executes the program 130 to generate an identification code for this tube.
[0116] The engraving operator launches the execution of the program 130 on the terminal 120.
[0117] The call to the HMI module 132 allows the operator 123 to enter the N identification information included in the definition of the code.
[0118] Once the identification information has been correctly entered into the HMI, for example by pressing a validation button, the module 134 is called to calculate a control key for each identification information.
[0119] Once the N control keys have been calculated, the generation module 136 is called to generate an identification code from the N information and the N calculated keys.
[0120] In a step 1103, once an identification code has been generated, the engraving operator 123 engraves it on the tube using the device 140.
[0121] The method 1000 comprises a phase of verifying the etching 1200.
[0122] The verification operator 223 verifies the code 203 just engraved on the tube 201. For this, the operator 223 uses the second terminal 220 and launches the execution of the second program 230.
[0123] In a step 1201, the operator acquires at least one image of the code 203 by means of the camera 222.
[0124] In a step 1202, the OCR module 231 is executed to perform an automatic reading of the identification code from the image just acquired. The OCR module 231 outputs N estimated information as well as N estimated control keys.
[0125] In a step 1203, the verification module 233 is executed to verify the consistency between an estimated piece of information and the corresponding estimated key, based on the outputs from the OCR module. N verification results are obtained as output.
[0126] In a step 1204, the HMI module 232 is called to present, on the screen of the second terminal 220, the identification information estimated by the OCR module 231, and, for each of these pieces of information, the result of the verification carried out by the verification module 233 (for example in the form of a color code).
[0127] The verification operator 223 carries out a check of the prediction made by the OCR algorithm and possibly corrects this estimate before validating what has been recognized.
[0128] Following this validation, in a step 1205, the program 230 transmits the validated identification information to the server 214, which then creates a new entry in the central database 216, if the identification information received does not correspond to drilling equipment already registered.
[0129] Advantageously, the server 214, when creating a new entry, collects additional information, for example documentary information by querying the web platform 110 of the supplier of this equipment. It stores this documentary information in the base 216 by associating it with the equipment which corresponds to this new entry.
[0130] Alternatively, the verification operator 223 may use a client station (not shown in [Fig.l]) to enrich the new entry, for example by accessing the database 15 via the Internet 16 to extract the relevant information on the equipment and record it in the database 55.
[0131] It will be noted that it is preferable to implement a validation phase 1200 of what has been engraved during the engraving phase 1100 rather than authorizing the engraving operator to directly record what he intends to engrave in the central database. Indeed, this makes it possible to ensure that the tube 3 has actually been engraved and that the engraving operator has not simply generated the identification code to be engraved, without actually engraving it on the tube.
[0132] The method 1000 comprises an inspection phase 1300.
[0133] Upon receipt of a tube 301 bearing an identification code 303, an inspection operator 323 uses this code 303 to certify the tube 301. To do this, it launches the execution of the third program 330 by the third terminal 320.
[0134] In a step 1301, the inspection operator acquires at least one image of the code 303 by means of the camera 322.
[0135] In a step 1302, the OCR module 331 is executed to perform an automatic reading of the identification code from the image just acquired. The OCR module 331 outputs N estimated information as well as N estimated control keys.
[0136] In a step 1303, the verification module 333 is executed to verify the consistency between estimated information and keys estimated by the OCR module. N verification results are obtained as output.
[0137] In a step 1304, the HMI module 332 is called to present, on the screen of the third terminal 320, the estimated identification information and, for each of these pieces of information, the result of the verification (for example in the form of a color code).
[0138] The operator 323 advantageously carries out a check of the prediction made by the OCR algorithm in relation to what it can read directly from the code 303 and possibly corrects this estimate before validating what is presented on the screen of the terminal 320.
[0139] Following this validation, in a step 1305, the program 330 transmits the validated identification information to the local server 314.
[0140] When receiving identification information from an inspected equipment, the local server 314 queries the central server 214 to determine whether this equipment has been registered in the central database 216.
[0141] If so, the central server 314 returns to the local server 314 the information it has on this equipment.
[0142] Upon receiving information from the central server 214, the local server 314 creates a new entry in the local database 316.
[0143] In addition, it transmits to the third terminal 320 a message indicating a successful inspection.
[0144] Advantageously, in a step 1306, by means of the execution of the extraction module 335 and adapted displays managed by the HMI module 332, the operator 323 interacts with the local server 324 to write additional documentation information, such as the current state of the tube (“usable”, “unusable”) or read documentation information (such as the type of thread with which the inspected tube is equipped).
[0145] In particular, the operator is able to construct an ordered list of tubes used in the production of a casing string. The operator selects the tubes he needs from the base 316, for example according to the length of the tubes. Once the list has been created, the order of the different tubes selected is recorded in the base 316.
[0146] In a particularly advantageous variant embodiment, the inspection component 300 is modified so as to allow “offline” operation, i.e. when the third user terminal 320 can no longer access the platform 310.
[0147] For this, the third user terminal 320 further comprises a so-called “onboard” database 416. This is shown in [Fig.l].
[0148] The embedded database 416 is an extraction of the local database 316. It can for example be obtained by executing the extraction module 335 periodically, when the third user terminal 320 has access to the platform 310.
[0149] Thus, when the third user terminal 320 finds that it cannot access the server 314 and consequently the local database 316, the requests sent (for example sent by the module 333) are redirected to the onboard database 416, so as to obtain the information relating to the equipment whose code has just been read by the OCR module that the third user terminal 320 executes. Consequently, instead of the local database 316, the OCR module embedded on the third user terminal 320 cooperates with the onboard database 416.
[0150] In this variant, the user terminal therefore incorporates the entire solution, in particular the acquisition sensor, the OCR module, the database and the HMI.
[0151] The impossibility of accessing the server 314 occurs for example when, on an offshore drilling platform, the user terminal 320 loses access to the internet network 5, no mobile telephone network offering coverage in the geographical area where the platform is located.
[0152] When the user terminal 320 can establish a connection, for example a temporary satellite connection, with the Internet network 5, it accesses the server 314 to carry out a synchronization between the on-board database 416 and the local database 316.
[0153] For example, depending on the information storage capacities of the user terminal 320, the onboard database 416 may only include part of the information from the local database 316. This information is the essential information enabling recognition of the equipment by its code. In addition, this extraction from the database 316 advantageously only concerns a certain batch of equipment, for example the equipment actually supplied on the drilling platform.
[0154] Conversely, if the operator has modified information relating to equipment in the on-board database 416, the modified information is updated in the local database 316 as soon as synchronization is possible between the two databases.
[0155] In this way, even without a communication link with the local database 316, the user terminal 320 can continue to operate and allow “offline” inspection of the equipment.
[0156] If for the clarity of the preceding description, the system has been presented as comprising three different terminals, it is envisaged to implement only one type of user terminal, executing a single program. This program groups together all the modules of the programs presented in [Fig.l]. However, a An operator only accesses a particular module if he has the appropriate rights, these rights being defined by a user profile. Thus, [Fig.l] presents examples of operators with different profiles.
[0157] Similarly, the first, second and / or third platforms (or management centers) instead of constituting separate platforms can be grouped, in particular to form a single common platform or management center.
[0158] The invention finds an application in the logistics of oil or gas extraction means. It allows for overall optimization of stocks between the different sites: suppliers, storage bases and drilling platforms).
