Description

Title of the invention: MODULAR MOUNTING SUPPORT FOR THIRD BRAKE LIGHT OF MOTOR VEHICLE Technical field

[0001] The present invention relates to the field of motor vehicles, more particularly to the field of third brake light assemblies for motor vehicles. Prior art

[0002] The third brake light, also known as the center brake light, is an essential element of road safety. It helps improve the visibility of a motor vehicle by signaling a braking situation to drivers behind it.

[0003] Conventionally, third brake lights are intended to be installed in a cutout of the body of the motor vehicle, and are generally known in many forms in practice, in particular according to the shape of the body of the different models of motor vehicles.

[0004] However, on the same model of motor vehicle, the existing solutions for fixing the third brake light are different depending on the finishes of said model, for example, a vehicle model having a sportier finish including a rear spoiler requires a solution for fixing the third brake light which is distinguished from that of the same model when it is without a rear spoiler. Therefore, this results in additional costs due to different designs and mounting methods.

[0005] There is therefore a need for standardization of brake light mounting solutions among automobile manufacturers, particularly in order to achieve optimization of the assemblies of their motor vehicles and to control the associated costs.

[0006] Published patent document DE 10 2007 006 257 A1 discloses a vehicle brake light lighting unit intended to be installed in a bodywork cutout, comprising lighting means mounted on a first carcass by means of tie rods to which a support structure is screwed until the latter rests against a lining of the motor vehicle.

[0007] However, the solution proposed by the document requires an opening on the bodywork through which the light from the lighting means is projected, which does not make it possible to effectively overcome the technical problem explained above, said solution therefore has room for improvement in order to make it possible to adapt the fixing of the third brake light to different models and finishes of motor vehicles. Statement of the invention

[0008] The present invention aims to overcome at least one of the drawbacks of the aforementioned state of the art. More particularly, the invention aims to propose a simple, efficient and economical solution making it possible to standardize the mounting of the third brake light on different finishes of a motor vehicle model.

[0009] To this end, the invention relates to a support for a third brake light of a motor vehicle, remarkable in that said support comprises: - a frame suitable for receiving the third brake light, and - a plate provided with fixing means capable of engaging with a tailgate lining of the motor vehicle.

[0010] According to one embodiment, the plate is horizontal or inclined by less than 20° relative to a horizontal direction, when the support is in the mounting position with the frame vertical.

[0011] Advantageously, the support makes it possible to ensure suspension mounting of the third brake light on the tailgate lining of the motor vehicle.

[0012] According to one embodiment, said support has an L-shaped longitudinal section where a first branch of the L corresponds to the plate and a second branch of the L corresponds to the frame.

[0013] According to one embodiment, the frame forms a rectangular housing capable of receiving the third brake light by insertion in an insertion direction.

[0014] According to one embodiment, the frame comprises a rectangular wall forming the rectangular housing, said rectangular wall comprising openings with which teeth on the third brake light can engage and / or teeth capable of engaging with openings on the third brake light.

[0015] According to one embodiment, the frame forms a rectangular wall configured to be sandwiched by positioning tabs extending from a rear edge of an outer contour of the third brake light.

[0016] According to one embodiment, the fixing means comprise means for clipping with the lining.

[0017] The invention also relates to an assembly for a motor vehicle, comprising: - a third brake light; and - a third brake light bracket intended to be fixed to a tailgate lining of the motor vehicle; remarkable in that said support is according to the invention.

[0018] The invention also relates to a motor vehicle comprising a tailgate with a lining, and a third brake light, remarkable in that said third brake light is engaged within the framework of a support according to the invention, the plate of said support being fixed to the lining.

[0019] According to one embodiment, the third brake light is positioned so as to illuminate through an upper portion of a rear window attached to the tailgate.

[0020] The measures of the invention are advantageous in that the third brake light assembly can be adapted to different inclinations of the same model of motor vehicle, in particular in the event of the presence or absence of a rear window spoiler. This is thanks to the support making it possible to effectively hold the brake light in its rectangular housing, and at the same time to ensure a suspension fixing of the assembly on the tailgate lining.

[0021] Furthermore, the invention makes it possible to repeat the same third brake light, with only a slight dimensional modification of the support depending on the vehicle models and the inclination of their rear window, as well as depending on the desired height between the lining and the lighting position. [0029] [Fig. 1] represents a perspective view of a motor vehicle 2 according to the invention, comprising a third brake light 4 mounted on a lining (visible in [Fig. 2]) of the tailgate 5 of said motor vehicle 2 by means of a support 6 according to the invention.

[0030] This description will detail the support 6 for fixing the third brake light 4 to the lining. Advantageously, the invention provides a means for mounting the brake light 4 on a model of the motor vehicle 2 when the latter comprises a spoiler 8 (illustrated in dotted lines) or when it is without said spoiler 8, and this with the same support 6 for fixing to the lining.

[0031] In this configuration, the support 6 is fixed to the lining so that the third brake light can illuminate through an upper part of a rear window 10 fixed to the tailgate 5, from the interior of the vehicle 2.

[0032] [Fig.2] represents a perspective view of the lining 3 of the tailgate 5 of the motor vehicle 2 of [Fig.l] with the support 6 of the third brake light engaged with said lining 3.

[0033] Preferably, the lining comprises an upper platform 3.1 provided with an opening 3.2 through which extend means 6.1 for fixing a plate of the support 6 of the third brake light.

[0034] The support 6 is here in a mounting position which is substantially vertical, this makes it possible to ensure attachment by suspension of the third brake light to the lining 3. In this configuration, the plate of the support 6 is preferably horizontal or inclined by less than 20° relative to a horizontal direction.

[0035] [Fig.3] represents an enlarged perspective view of the support 6 of [Fig.2].

[0036] Preferably, the support 6 comprises a frame 6.2 forming a housing rec tangular capable of receiving the third brake light by insertion in an insertion direction (corresponding to a longitudinal direction of the motor vehicle), said support 6 also comprises a plate 6.3 provided with the fixing means 6.1.

[0037] It can be generally observed that the support 6 has a longitudinal section in the shape of an L where a first branch of the L corresponds to the plate 6.3 and a second branch of the L corresponds to the frame 6.2.

[0038] Preferably, the frame 6.2 comprises a rectangular wall 7 forming the rectangular housing for the third brake light.

[0039] The fixing means 6.1 comprise means for clipping with the lining, preferably corresponding to two hook-forming clips extending vertically from the plate 6.3 and intended to ensure clip-mounting of the assembly on the lining of the motor vehicle. The fixing means 6.1 may further comprise holes for passing screws through the plate 6.3 in addition to or as a replacement for the clip-on fixing.

[0040] Advantageously, the fixing support 6 is configured to be fixed to the lining in a fixing direction which is perpendicular to a direction of engagement of the third brake light with the frame 6.2. This makes it possible to considerably simplify the assembly of the motor vehicle.

[0041] [Fig.4] represents a perspective view of the third brake light 4. This comprises an outer contour 4.1 from which four positioning tabs 4.2 preferably extend projecting and forward (towards a translucent wall 4.4 of the third brake light), said tabs 4.2 being intended to engage with the rectangular wall of the support frame.

[0042] More preferably, the outer contour 4.1 comprises two upper positioning tabs 4.2 and two lower ones, which ensures uniform support and precise insertion of the third brake light 4 in the corresponding frame.

[0043] [Fig.5] shows a perspective view of an engagement by insertion of the third brake light 4 in the frame 6.2 of the support 6, so as to form an assembly 12 for a motor vehicle prior to fixing by clipping to the tailgate lining.

[0044] The frame 6.2 advantageously comprises two lateral notches 7.2 capable of receiving, by insertion, a corresponding guide rail 4.5 projecting from each lateral side of the external contour 4.1 of the third brake light 4.

[0045] The direction of insertion is represented by the arrow visible in [Fig. 5]. It can be seen that the positioning tabs 4.2 extend projecting from a rear edge 4.3 of the outer contour 4.1 of the third brake light 4, so as to sandwich the rectangular wall 7 of the frame 6.2, as illustrated in the sectional view of [Fig. 6].

[0046] With reference to [Fig.6], it can be seen that the rectangular wall 7 is sandwiched, preferably without play and by wedging, between the outer contour 4.1 and the positioning tabs 4.2, this makes it possible to hold the brake light 4 in position in the frame 6.2.

[0047] [Fig.7] represents a longitudinal sectional view of the assembly 12 according to the invention, along an axis passing through teeth 4.6 of the third brake light 4 preferably engaged in corresponding openings 7.1 on the rectangular wall 7 of the frame 6.2.

[0048] Alternatively, the teeth may be arranged in line with the wall 7, with corresponding openings on the outer contour 4.1. In another alternative, the outer contour 4.1 may comprise both openings and teeth configured to engage with, respectively, corresponding teeth and openings on the rectangular wall 7.

[0049] More preferably, the third brake light 4 comprises four teeth 4.6 on an upper face of the outer contour 4.1 and the same number of teeth arranged in parallel on a lower face of said outer contour 4.1.

[0050] Preferably, each tooth 4.6 comprises a triangular longitudinal section, forming an insertion ramp, facilitating the manual engagement of the third brake light 4 in the corresponding opening 7.1.

[0051] Advantageously, the assembly 12 of the invention makes it possible to adapt to different inclinations and heights of the fixing positions of the third brake light on the tailgate of the corresponding motor vehicle, and this thanks to the support 6 making it possible to effectively hold the brake light in its rectangular housing, while at the same time ensuring a suspension fixing of the assembly on the lining of the tailgate. To this end, the assembly 12 is capable of being fixed on different models and finishes (for example, with or without a rear window spoiler) of motor vehicles.
