AI Technical Summary
Existing motor vehicle headrest designs face challenges in achieving a smooth and finished closure of large openings required for inserting rigid structures, leading to finishing difficulties.
The design incorporates a cover with a lower area featuring a front format with a median zone and side areas, a rear format with a cooperating profile, and lateral formats with reception orifices, creating a large cover opening with an optimized finish.
This configuration allows for a large cover opening with an optimized finish once closed, addressing the finishing difficulties associated with larger openings in motor vehicle headrests.

Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: Headrest for a motor vehicle seat
[0001] The invention relates to a headrest for a motor vehicle seat.
[0002] It is known to produce a headrest for a motor vehicle seat, said headrest comprising: • a rigid structure connecting said headrest to the top of the back of said seat, said structure comprising a metal frame having two parallel rods, • an elastically compressible padding cushion secured to said structure, said cushion having a lower face from which said rods protrude, • a covering cover for said cushion based on a plurality of covering formats associated with each other edge to edge, said cover being fitted onto said cushion, said cover comprising a lower zone.
[0003] With such an arrangement, it is necessary to provide in the lower area of the cover an opening allowing the insertion of the rigid structure into said cover.
[0004] And when the structure has a large volume, it is appropriate to provide an opening of a substantial size - in particular of a substantially rectangular shape and not in the form of a simple slot - which can lead to finishing difficulties when the opening is closed once said structure has been inserted into the cover.
[0005] The aim of the invention is to propose an arrangement making it possible to optimize the finish of such a headrest at the level of its opening.
[0006] To this end, the invention proposes a headrest for a motor vehicle seat, said headrest comprising: • a rigid structure connecting said headrest to the top of the back of said seat, said structure comprising a metal frame having two parallel rods, • an elastically compressible padding cushion secured to said structure, said cushion having a lower face from which said rods protrude, • a covering cover for said cushion based on a plurality of covering formats associated with each other edge to edge, said cover being fitted onto said cushion, said cover comprising a lower zone arranged opposite said lower face,
[0007] said lower zone comprising: • a front format provided with a first transverse edge having a median zone and two lateral zones, said format extending transversely on either side of said cover, • a rear format provided with a second transverse edge extending along said median zone, said second edge being provided with a profile cooperating with an associated reciprocal profile along said median zone, said format having two longitudinal edges, said second format extending transversely from one of said rods to the other, • two lateral formats each having a lateral part and a front part projecting transversely inwards, said formats each having a rear internal longitudinal edge sewn to the rear part of a respective longitudinal edge of said rear format, said rear format overlapping said front part, said lateral formats each being provided with an orifice for receiving one of said rods in a fitted manner, said orifice opening at the intersection between said front part and said rear internal longitudinal edge,
[0008] said first and second transverse edges and said front portion delimiting an opening for inserting said structure into said cover to allow its mounting, each of said rods passing through a respective orifice.
[0009] In this description, the terms of positioning in space (longitudinal, transverse, lateral, lower, front, rear, below, etc.) are taken with reference to the vehicle in which the headrest is arranged, said vehicle extending longitudinally along its length (X axis), transversely along its width (Y axis) and vertically along its height (Z axis).
[0010] With the proposed arrangement, a large cover opening is produced with an optimized finish at the level of said opening once closed, in particular due to the covering of the front parts of the side formats by the rear format.
[0011] Other features and advantages of the invention will appear in the following description, given with reference to the attached figures, in which:
[0012] [Fig.la] and
[0013] [Fig.lb] are schematic cutaway views in partial perspective of a headrest according to one embodiment, the opening of the cover being open ([Fig.la]) and closed ([Fig.lb]).
[0014] [Fig.2] is a schematic view from below of the headrest shown in Figures 1.
[0015] With reference to the figures, a headrest 1 for a motor vehicle seat is described, said headrest comprising: • a rigid structure connecting said headrest to the top of the back of said seat, said structure comprising a metal frame having two parallel rods 2, • an elastically compressible padding cushion 3 secured to said structure, said cushion having a lower face 4 from which said rods protrude, • a cover 5 for covering said cushion based on a plurality of covering formats associated with each other edge to edge - in particular by sewing or by fitting profiles -, said cover being fitted onto said cushion, said cover comprising a lower zone arranged opposite said lower face,
[0016] said lower zone comprising: • a front format 6 provided with a first transverse edge 7 having a median zone 8 and two lateral zones 9, said format extending transversely on either side of said cover, • a rear format 10 provided with a second transverse edge 11 extending along said median zone, said second edge being provided with a profile 12 cooperating with a reciprocal profile 13 associated along said median zone, said format having two longitudinal edges 14, said second format extending transversely from one of said rods to the other, • two lateral formats 15 each having a lateral part 16 and a front part 17 projecting transversely inwards, said formats each having a rear internal longitudinal edge 18 sewn to the rear part of a respective longitudinal edge 14 of said rear format, said rear format covering said front part, said lateral formats each being provided with an orifice 19 for receiving one of said rods in a fitted manner, said orifice opening at the intersection between said front part and said rear internal longitudinal edge,
[0017] said first and second transverse edges and said front part delimiting an opening 20 for inserting said structure into said cover to allow its mounting, each of said rods passing through a respective orifice 19.
[0018] According to the embodiment shown, the structure further comprises an energy absorption housing 21 - in the event of an impact of the head of an occupant of the seat against the headrest 1 - made of molded plastic material integral with the metal frame.
[0019] According to the embodiment shown, the front format 6 and the rear format 10 are laterally connected to each other by two seams 22 extending laterally on either side of the first edge 7.
[0020] According to a variant not shown, the front format 6 and the rear format 10 are laterally associated with each other by fitting together complementary profiles respectively fixed on each of said formats, said profiles extending laterally on either side of the first edge 7.
[0021] According to another variant not shown, the front format 6 and the rear format 10 are laterally associated with each other by fitting together profiles respectively fixed on each of said formats, said profiles extending laterally on either side of the first edge 7, said profiles fitting into complementary lateral grooves provided in the housing 21.
[0022] According to the embodiment shown, the profile 12 of the second edge 11 and the reciprocal profile 13 of the middle zone 8 fit into a complementary middle groove 23 provided in the housing.
[0023] According to a variant not shown, the profile 12 of the second edge 11 fits into the reciprocal profile 13 of the middle zone 8.
