AI Technical Summary
Existing door openings with bases made from materials like agglomerated wood, cardboard, glass, or foam, which have lower resistance to tearing than wood, often lack sufficient mechanical resistance for hardware fixation, especially after reconditioning which can thin or remove the reinforcing alaise.
Incorporating a wooden cylinder with an axial pre-drill into the panel's song, extending from the song towards the base, allows for secure hardware fixation by screwing, even in cases where the alaise is reduced or absent.
This solution provides sufficient mechanical resistance for hardware fixation without complicating the implementation process, ensuring that the door opening can withstand the installation of new hardware even after reconditioning.

Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: Opening and its preparation method, assembly incorporating such an opening
[0001] The present invention relates to an opening to which a fastener is capable of being fixed, an assembly integrating such an opening, and a method of preparing such an opening.
[0002] It relates in particular to an opening in the form of a panel comprising: - a peripheral chant, - two facings extending on either side of the peripheral edge and - a base, also called a core, arranged between said facings, said base being made of a material whose tear resistance is lower than wood, the peripheral edge being formed by part of the perimeter of the base and / or part of an element, also called a flange, added around said base.
[0003] Such an opening, intended for example to form a door opening, is known. Such an opening must frequently be equipped with hardware, such as a hinge, hinges, a handle head or other. It frequently happens that the base, also called core, of the panel constituting said opening is made of chipboard, or cardboard, or glass or foam. The material constituting the base in this case has a tear resistance lower than that of wood, that is to say a tear resistance of less than 100 daN. The tear resistance is measured in accordance with French standards NF P 23-311 and NF EN 320. Similarly, it often happens that the base of such a panel is without a flange, that is to say a "hard" wooden edge which extends around the base over at least part of the perimeter of the base, or that the thickness of this flange is insufficient.This is particularly the case when a door is being reconditioned. Such reconditioning involves at least removing the hardware and the two facings and trimming the door on all four sides, which leads to a thinning or even disappearance of the edge. In this case, fixing new hardware does not provide the desired mechanical strength.
[0004] An object of the invention is to propose an opening of the aforementioned type whose design allows the fixing of hardware with sufficient mechanical resistance to tearing without harming the simplicity of implementation of the fixing.
[0005] To this end, the invention relates to an opening in the form of a panel comprising: - a peripheral edge, - two facings extending on either side of the peripheral edge and - a base arranged between said facings, said base being made of a material whose tear resistance is lower than that of wood, the peripheral edge being formed at least partially by a part of the perimeter of the base and / or a part of an element added around said base, characterized in that, to allow the fixing of hardware, the opening is provided with at least one wooden cylinder extending from the edge towards the heart of the base, said cylinder being provided with an axial drilling, called a pre-hole, opening into the edge of the opening.
[0006] Inserting a wooden cylinder into the edge of the panel with the cylinder extending from the edge towards the core of the base, also called the core of the panel, subsequently allows this cylinder to be used for screw fixing of hardware to said panel. It is thus possible to use opening panels resulting from reconditioning with the edge of the panel formed, either with an added element, also called a flange, the thickness of which is reduced due to the reconditioning, or with a material which is the same material as the core. In both cases, traditional screw fixing into the edge is excluded and the presence of a cylinder provided with a pre-hole makes it possible to simply ensure screw fixing with the required mechanical strength.
[0007] According to one embodiment of the invention, the cylinder is coated externally with glue on at least part of its surface.
[0008] According to one embodiment of the invention, the cylinder is provided externally with longitudinal grooves.
[0009] According to one embodiment of the invention, the opening is a door opening.
[0010] The invention also relates to an assembly comprising at least one opening and a frame inside which the opening is able to be inserted at least partially, characterized in that the opening conforms to that described above.
[0011] The invention also relates to a method for preparing an opening in the form panel to allow the fixing of hardware, said opening comprising: - a peripheral edge, - two facings extending on either side of the edge and - a base arranged between said facings, said base being made of a material whose tear resistance is lower than that of wood, the edge being formed by a part of the perimeter of the base and / or a part of an element added to said base, characterized in that the method comprises a step of inserting at least one wooden cylinder into a hole at least in the edge of the opening to a position in which the cylinder extends from the edge towards the heart of the base, and - a step of axially drilling said cylinder from the edge of the opening to obtain an axial hole in the cylinder, called a pre-hole, opening into said edge.
[0012] According to one embodiment of the invention, the drilling in the edge of the opening used to receive a cylinder has a diameter of between 8 and 16 mm. Brief description of the drawings
[0013] The invention will be better understood on reading the following description of exemplary embodiments, with reference to the appended drawings in which:
[0014] [Fig-1] represents a sectional view of an assembly according to the invention;
[0015] [Fig.2] represents a sectional view of an opening during the step of inserting a cylinder in a hole in the edge of the panel;
[0016] [Fig.3] represents a sectional view of an opening in the inserted state of the cylinder in the edge of the opening and pierced with said cylinder associated with a detailed view of the area of the cylinder;
[0017] [Fig.4] shows a perspective view of a glue-coated and drilled cylinder as it is when inserted into the edge of the opening panel.
[0018] The invention relates, as mentioned above, to an opening 1 such as a door opening 1, as illustrated in [Fig.l] where this opening is partially inserted into a frame 21 to form an assembly.
[0019] This opening 1 is in the form of a panel intended to be equipped with hardware 20, the nature of which may vary depending on the design of the opening 1.
[0020] In the example of [Fig.l], the hardware comprises, along one of the longitudinal sides of the panel, a hinge with a portion with a tenon fixed to the opening and a portion without a tenon fixed to the frame 21. This hardware 20 also comprises, along the opposite longitudinal side of the panel, hardware 20 formed by a handle faceplate. Obviously, any other type of hardware 20 adapted to the openings and the frames can be envisaged without departing from the scope of the invention.
[0021] This opening 1, of panel type, comprises a base 4 forming the core of the opening panel. This base 4 is made of a material whose tear resistance is lower than that of wood, i.e. less than 100 daN, the measurement of the tear resistance being able to be carried out according to the aforementioned standards. In the example shown, this base 4 is made of chipboard, also called particle board.
[0022] This base 4, which is in the form of a plate or a panel-type block with two opposite faces, is covered on each of these faces with a facing 3. This facing 3 can be formed by a decorative laminate plate. This facing makes it possible to decorate the base 4.
[0023] The base 4 is thus arranged between the facings 3. This base 4 can be surrounded over part of its periphery, in the zone extending between said facings 3, by an added element 9, also called a flange, which is generally made of “hard” wood to form a reinforcing element.
[0024] In the example of [Fig.l], one of the longitudinal sides of the panel is, at the level of the base 4, equipped with an added element 9, while the opposite side is devoid of it.
[0025] Thus, in the example of [Fig.l], the part of the peripheral edge 2 of the opening panel between the two facings 3 is, along one longitudinal side of the panel, formed by the material constituting the base 4 and, along the opposite longitudinal side, by an added element 9 of reduced thickness less than 30 mm, therefore insufficient to allow the direct fixing of hardware in said edge 2 by screwing.
[0026] The opening 1 is therefore, to allow the fixing of hardware 20 to the opening 1, provided with at least one wooden cylinder 5 extending from the edge 2 towards the heart of the base 4. Said cylinder 5 is provided with an axial drilling, called a pre-hole 6, opening into the edge 2 of the opening 1.
[0027] The detail of this wooden cylinder 5 is shown in [Fig.4]. Generally, this cylinder 5 has a length of between 25 and 50 mm and a diameter of between 8 and 16 mm.
[0028] This cylinder 5 can be provided externally with longitudinal grooves 8 and is fixed by gluing to the opening panel, so that the cylinder 5 is coated externally with glue 7 on at least part of its surface.
[0029] To allow the fixing of such a cylinder in the peripheral edge 2 of the opening 1, the procedure is as follows:
[0030] The edge 2 of the opening is pierced at a location of the edge 2 intended to receive hardware 20. This drilling 10 of the edge 2 of the opening 1 used to receive a cylinder 5 has a diameter of between 8 and 16 millimeters.
[0031] This drilling 10 extends from the edge towards the heart of the base over a length generally close to that of the cylinder.
[0032] The cylinder 5 coated with glue is inserted into said bore 10 until it extends completely inside said bore 10, as illustrated by the passage from [Fig.2] to [Fig.3],
[0033] This cylinder 5 is then drilled axially from the edge 2 of the opening 1 to obtain a pre-hole 6, as illustrated in [Fig.3], into which a wood screw 22 can be inserted for fixing the hardware to said opening. Obviously the opening is equipped with as many cylinders as necessary.
[0034] Such an assembly makes it possible to avoid the need to add a flange to an opening that has been reconditioned to allow the fixing of hardware. The frame associated with such an opening can be subject to similar preparation for the fixing of hardware.
