Description

Title of the invention: DEVICE FOR PACKAGING AND DISPENSING A FLUID PRODUCT Technical field

[0001] The present invention relates to the technical field of packaging, and more specifically to that of the conditioning and distribution of a liquid or semi-fluid product intended to be stored and distributed in portions or doses.

[0002] The invention more particularly relates to a packaging device and distribution of a product capable of containing and dispensing one or two sterile doses, preferably in nasal spray form. Prior art

[0003] Devices for packaging and dispensing a product of conventional structure are known which make it possible to store and dispense a product in the form of a single dose or two doses.

[0004] These devices are used in particular in the pharmaceutical field, and for some more particularly in the ENT field.

[0005] A device of this type as described in patent FR 3 109 887 allows the dispensing of one or two doses of product by means of the movement of a piston stopper located inside a reservoir containing the product to be dispensed and the simultaneous movement of said reservoir itself. The reservoir is rigid and its movement is limited by the lateral projection of an equally rigid insert located in the product dispensing head. The stroke of the reservoir thus determined by two rigid parts makes it possible to claim a precise dose. The piston stopper is pierced at the time of actuation of the device, thus allowing the product to be dispensed to exit the reservoir and the preservation of the product away from air before its dispensing.

[0006] The major drawback of this device as described in the above-cited patent lies in the fact that no means for dispensing a second dose independent of the first is described. It is indicated that when the reservoir contains two doses the device comprises means for splitting the doses to ensure the dispensing of a single dose at each actuation but these splitting means are not described in the patent.

[0007] Another disadvantage of the device as described in patent FR 3 109 887 is that it does not include any safety feature to prevent involuntary actuation of the device during transport or storage.

[0008] There is a need to efficiently carry out the distribution of liquid or semi-liquid product. fluid that can be stored and dispensed sterilely as a single dose or as two independent doses.

[0009] More generally, the invention aims to remedy certain drawbacks of similar devices of the state of the art and to propose such a device which is better suited to the various requirements of practice than known devices. SUMMARY

[0010] In order to improve the situation, the invention proposes a device for packaging and dispensing a product, generally liquid or semi-fluid, comprising: - a rigid body extending between two ends around a longitudinal axis, delimiting a central hollow space, the rigid body comprising a distribution nozzle provided with an axial channel at one of the two ends, a preferably cylindrical tubular skirt provided at the other end and one or more lateral protrusions; - a piston provided with a rod secured to the distribution nozzle and comprising an axial channel in communication with the channel of said distribution nozzle, the piston being carried by the rigid body; - a preferably cylindrical reservoir containing the product to be dispensed, open at one end of this reservoir and capable of moving longitudinally in the rigid body so as to insert the reservoir into the central hollow space along said longitudinal axis and in a sealed manner around the piston and; - a rigid pusher capable of moving longitudinally along the longitudinal axis of the rigid body; with the particularity that the pusher is actuable and allows the product to be expelled towards the outside of the device when it is activated by the user, that it causes the reservoir to move in the central hollow space and that the product contained in said reservoir is compressed against a wall of the piston and expelled outside the device through the channel located inside said piston then the channel located in the dispensing nozzle, and characterized in that the rigid body carries or comprises means for guiding the pusher, the guide means including one or more recesses cooperating with at least one projection with which the pusher is provided.

[0011] Thanks to these arrangements, it is possible to dispense one or two precisely calibrated doses of product, the travel of the reservoir being limited by the contact of at least one rigid projection of the pusher with the end of the recess(es) which are located in the equally rigid body.

[0012] In other words, by pressing the pusher, the tank can be moved between two perfectly determined positions.

[0013] According to a particular feature, the projection of the pusher is in the form of a ra- directly projecting outwards which can move in a recess of the body in the form of a straight longitudinal groove or slot located in the skirt of said body between two positions corresponding to the ends of said groove and allowing the dispensing of a dose by a single actuation.

[0014] According to another feature, the straight longitudinal groove or slot is connected to another similar groove or slot by a third groove (intermediate groove) located at its end opposite the end of the skirt and extending perpendicular to the longitudinal grooves. By manually rotating the pusher after dispensing a dose, the user has the possibility of dispensing a second dose using the second groove.

[0015] Optionally, the first groove is connected to two other similar grooves symmetrical with respect to said first groove so as not to impose a precise direction of rotation on the user.

[0016] Preferably, a metallic or elastic torsion spring secured to the pusher is placed inside the body and allows the rotation of said pusher without manual intervention from the user.

[0017] According to a particular feature, the two longitudinal grooves as described above are connected to each other by a groove (intermediate groove) arranged at an angle, preferably at 45 degrees. The passage of the lug from the first longitudinal groove after dispensing the first dose to the second longitudinal groove for dispensing the second dose is carried out automatically without user intervention by the effect of a compression spring located in the hollow volume of the rigid body.

[0018] In order to force the lug to use the intermediate groove arranged at 45 degrees after dispensing the first dose, said intermediate groove is provided at its end opposite the end of the skirt with a flexible pawl preventing any return of said lug to its initial position.

[0019] In order to force the lug to use the second longitudinal groove for dispensing the second dose, the intermediate groove arranged at 45 degrees is provided with a ratchet located at its end connecting it to said second groove.

[0020] Optionally, the recesses are located in the central part of the rigid body and cooperate with a projection of the pusher located at the end of said pusher.

[0021] In various embodiments according to the invention, one or more of the following provisions may further be used:

[0022] The body may be provided with symmetrical recesses located on either side of its axis and the pusher provided with two projections symmetrical with respect to said axis.

[0023] The rigid body may be provided with a single outgrowth perpendicular to its axis of circular or oval shape or of any shape, or with two outgrowths. The ex Lateral growths may be in the form of diametrically opposed tabs, providing axial support.

[0024] The dispensing tip may be provided with a sealed cap attached to the latter in a removable manner, for example by snap-fastening or screwing, making it possible to isolate the interior of the reservoir from contact with outside air. This cap makes it possible to store the product contained in said reservoir sterilely and constitutes a safety feature which, due to the incompressibility of said liquid product, prevents any involuntary movement of the pusher before use. It may be provided with a tamper-evident device such as a ring or a collar, for example.

[0025] Optionally, the dispensing tip is provided with an intermediate piece located between the channel of the piston tip and that of said dispensing tip and comprising flexible circular rings as described in patent EP 3 810 524. These rings form a labyrinthine seal allowing the passage of the product from the inside to the outside of the device under low pressure and oppose the passage of bacteria from the outside to the inside of said device, thus allowing the product to be dispensed to be kept sterile. Channels perpendicular to the axis of the body allow the passage of the product between the channel of the piston tip and that of the dispensing tip.

[0026] The projection(s) of the pusher have an initial position in which said pusher cannot move in the recesses of the body. The user manually rotates the pusher to allow the projection(s) to move in said recesses to dispense the first dose.

[0027] The respective materials of the reservoir and the piston are of different hardness in order to improve the sliding and sealing between these two parts.

[0028] In embodiments, the device has one or more of the following features: - each recess, possibly elongated and whose width is typically delimited between two rectilinear guide edges, is designed and arranged to present an axial stop. - each recess has a length equal to or representative of a longitudinal displacement stroke of the tank. - the reservoir stroke can be predefined when the device is actuated (the axial thrust actuation of the pusher and the resulting advancement stroke of the reservoir depend on the advancement length of a projection in the recess which is, for example, designed as a linear / rectilinear guide section forming a stop / abutment zone at an axial end of the recess). - the recess(es) are arranged to each define a guide section selectively allowing longitudinal guidance of the projection. - the recess(es) each have the shape of a longitudinal antler or slot located in the skirt of the body. - the projection of the pusher with which the recess(es) cooperate is in the form of a lug projecting radially outwards. - two longitudinal grooves or slots are provided, which belong to a common guide for said projection, for example by being connected to each other by an intermediate groove or slot which defines a deviation or a trajectory forming an angle with respect to a direction of the longitudinal axis. - the rigid pusher can rotate around the longitudinal axis, preferably circularly. - the intermediate groove or slot has flexible ratchets. - the pusher has a skirt surrounding or enveloping all or part of the reservoir to slide with the latter in the central hollow space. - the skirt of the pusher includes an end (called the follower end) opposite an actuating end of the pusher. - the rigid body carries or includes an internal guide element (which can be housed in or delimit the hollow central space) provided with longitudinal groove(s) or slot(s) intended to cooperate with a lug located at the follower end of the skirt of the pusher.

[0029] According to one feature, a resilient return element is operatively coupled to the pusher allowing the pusher to be pushed downwardly away from the axial channel or to rotate. In addition or as an alternative, a spring (typically separate from the resilient return element) allows the pusher to rotate or to be pulled downwardly.

[0030] In embodiments, one and / or the other of the following characteristics are provided: - the dispensing tip is provided with a removable, leak-proof cap, allowing the product to be kept sterile and preventing any involuntary use of the device. - an element provided with elastic rings is located between the channels, being able to form a deformable internal non-return valve or plug (the deformation of this element, to allow the fluid product to pass towards the distribution zone towards the outside of the device, only occurring under conditions of overpressure on the reservoir side, linked to the insertion of the piston into the reservoir). - the piston and the body form a single piece. - the pusher and the tank form a single piece. [0042] DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION

[0043] The device as shown in [Fig.l], including a rigid body 1 comprising a dispensing tip 2 pierced with a channel 5, a skirt 9 provided with a groove 10, two tabs 15 and 15', a central hollow volume or space 19, a cap 6 mounted on the end of the tip 2, a reservoir 7 containing the product 8 to be dispensed, a piston 17 comprising a rod 3 pierced with a channel 4, and a pusher 16, is presented in the configuration available to the user before any use.

[0044] The pusher 16 has a cylindrical shape at its lower end and is adapted to allow the user to operate the device with a thumb.

[0045] The two tabs 15 and 15' allow the user to block the device with two fingers when he actuates the push button 16 with the thumb upwards.

[0046] The dispensing tip 2 is preferably of elongated shape so as to be able to dispense the product into a nostril of the user. It may be equipped with a spray device (not shown).

[0047] The reservoir 7 is cylindrical in shape. It has a bottom closed at its lower end and an opening at the upper end. The walls of said reservoir slide in a sealed manner around the piston 17.

[0048] The pusher 16 is in contact with the bottom of the reservoir 7 and drives the latter upwards when it is stressed. It comprises in its upper part a cylindrical skirt 18, surrounding the walls of the reservoir 7 and sliding inside the rigid body 1. Said skirt 18 is capable of receiving the support of a spring when the latter is present in the central hollow space 19 of the rigid body 1.

[0049] The cylindrical skirt 18 of the pusher 16 completely surrounds the cylindrical walls of the reservoir 7, thus preventing any deformation of the latter when it is made of a more flexible material than that of the piston 17.

[0050] The lug 14 that the pusher 16 comprises is preferably of cylindrical shape and its dimensions are adapted to the groove 10 that the skirt 9 comprises so as to allow free sliding in the latter. Its end may be of oblique shape in order to facilitate its initial positioning in the groove 10.

[0051] The end of the skirt 9 is of suitable shape and can be deformed when the lug 14 is forced through to place it in the groove 10.

[0052] The part of the piston in contact with the walls of the reservoir 7 is of adapted shape preferably in the form of lips 30 having a minimal surface area in order to ensure the sealing and free sliding of said reservoir 7.

[0053] The interior of the cap 6 forms a seal with the exterior part of the dispensing nozzle 2 and comprises means for attachment to said nozzle 2. This attachment may consist of tightening, snap-fastening or screwing (not shown).

[0054] [Fig.2] shows the groove 10 in a device intended to dispense a single dose and two positions of the lug 14. The low position is that when the device has not yet been activated and the high position when the single dose has been dispensed.

[0055] In [Fig. 3] are shown two longitudinal grooves 10 and 11 connected to each other by a groove 12 perpendicular to the axis of the body 1 in a device intended for the distribution of two identical doses. The low position in the groove 10 of the lug 14 corresponds to that when the device has not been activated, the high dotted position in the groove 10 is that when the device has been activated and the first dose dispensed. The low dotted position of the lug 14 in the groove 11 corresponds to that after which the pusher has undergone a rotation. The high dotted position of the lug 14 in the groove 11 is that after the distribution of the second dose.

[0056] [Fig.4] shows the two longitudinal grooves connected to each other by a groove 13 positioned at 45 degrees relative to the axis of the body 1. When the lug 14 is in the high position in the groove 10 after the dispensing of the first dose, it is urged downwards by the effect of a spring or elastic return element 20 as shown in [Fig.8]. A first elastic pawl 21 retracts in order to allow the lug 14 to slide in the groove 10 during the dispensing of the first dose and returns to its initial position in order to oppose the return of the lug 14 to its starting position. The pawl 22 retracts when the lug passes into the groove 13 and opposes the return of the lug 14 into said groove 13 in order to allow the dispensing of the second dose. The lug 14 is then in the low position in the second groove 11 and the second dose is ready to be dispensed. When the lug 14 moves from the high position of the groove 10 to the low position of the groove 11, the pusher undergoes a downward translation without driving the reservoir 7 which remains in the same position as that which it had after the dispensing of the first dose. The length of the groove 11 allows the pusher 16 to return to a position in contact with the reservoir 7 and then to dispense the second dose strictly identical to the first dose.

[0057] When first used, the device operates as follows.

[0058] [Fig. 5] shows the device intended to dispense two doses of product 8 and after the user has removed the cap 6. The user pushes the pusher 16 upwards by pressing with the thumb along the arrow A while he holds the device in place by pressing on the tabs 15 and 15' with two fingers. The pusher 16 has driven the movement of the reservoir 7 in the same direction. The piston 17 remained fixed and the product 8 was compressed between the walls of the reservoir 7 and the lower face of the piston 17. The lips 30 of the piston 17 ensured the seal between the walls of the reservoir 7 and the piston 17. The product 8 under the effect of the pressure takes the channel 4 then the channel 5 whose upper end opens outside the device and allows the first dose of product 8 to be dispensed according to the arrow B. The lug is then in the high position of the first groove 10 as shown in Figures 3 and 4. The movement of the pusher 16 determined by that of the lug 14 in the groove 10 between a low position and a high position caused an identical movement of the reservoir 7 thus ensuring the dispensing of a first dose of product 8 perfectly determined. The volume of this first dose is determined by the length of the groove 10.

[0059] [Fig. 6] represents the device after the pusher 16 has been pressed a second time according to arrow A and the second dose identical to the first has been dispensed according to arrow B. The lug 14 is then in the upper position of the second groove 11 as shown in Figures 3 and 4. The length of the groove 11, as regards the movement of the lug of the pusher 16 causing that of the reservoir 7, is identical to the length of the groove 10 thus ensuring the dispensing of a second dose whose volume is strictly identical to that of the first dose.

[0060] [Fig.7] represents a device intended to dispense two doses, the pusher 16 of which has been pressed along arrow A and the first dose dispensed along arrow B. The body 1 comprises an element 23 located in its central part. The body 1 can be made in a single piece by including this element 23. Alternatively, the element 23 (itself being able to be in one piece or resulting from an assembly) is carried by a part of the envelope constituting the body (being able to form the external lateral face of the body) which surrounds and / or delimits the space 19. The element 23 can then be rigidly fixed to this part (internally, on the side of the space 19) to form the body 1. More generally, it is understood that the element 23 is integral with the body 1 by being integrated or secured to a part constituting the body 1. This element 23 comprises grooves 10', 11', 12' and 13' identical to the grooves 10, 11, 12 and 13.They cooperate with a lug 14' located at the end of the skirt of the pusher 18. A spring (not shown) can be placed inside the skirt 9 of the body 1 or inside the space 19 of said body in order to make the pusher 16 rotate if the grooves are arranged according to [Fig.3], or move downwards if these grooves are arranged according to [Fig.4]. If the spring is placed in the volume 19 of the body 1 it is a compression spring and if said spring is placed in the skirt 9 of the body 1 it is a tension spring.

[0061] [Fig.8] represents a spring 20 forming an elastic return element located in space 19 of the body 1. It acts on the end of the skirt 18 of the pusher 16 and forces the lug 14 to take position in the lower part of the groove 11 after dispensing the first dose as shown in [Fig.4] when it is a compression spring. It drives the pusher 16 in rotation so that the lug 14 takes position in the bottom of the groove 11 after dispensing the first dose as shown in [Fig.3] if it is a torsion spring.

[0062] [Fig.9] shows a complementary piece 27 which is flexible and located between the channels 4 and 5. Its side walls are provided with elastic rings 28 which ensure sealing with the body 1. Two channels 26 and 29, perpendicular to the axis of the body, allow the product 8 to pass from channel 4 to channel 5 after passing between the end of the rings 28 and the body 1. This passage is carried out under the pressure of the product 8 when it is compressed. These flexible rings 28 which form a labyrinthine seal allow the passage of the product 8 while opposing that of the bacteria from the outside to the inside of the device.

[0063] Other embodiments are possible without departing from the scope of the invention:

[0064] The groove 13 may have any angle with the longitudinal axis X of the body. 1.

[0065] The part of the piston 17 in contact with the reservoir 7 may be provided with an elastic sealing joint.

[0066] The grooves 11 and 12 shown in [Fig.3] can be duplicated symmetrically with respect to the groove 10 so that the user can manually rotate the pusher 16 in any direction.

[0067] The grooves 10, 11, 12 and 13 can be duplicated on the skirt 9 of the body 1 symmetrically with respect to the axis of said body 1.

[0068] The lug 14 of the pusher 16 can be duplicated symmetrically with respect to the axis of the body 1.

[0069] The grooves 10', 11', 12' and 13' can be duplicated in the part 23 symmetrically with respect to the axis of the body 1.

[0070] The lug 14' of the pusher 16 can be duplicated symmetrically with respect to the axis of the body 1.

[0071] Means can indicate to the user whether there are one or two doses left to be dispensed depending on the position of the lug 14 in the groove 10 or 11 or of the lug 14' in the groove 10' or 11'.

[0072] The two tabs 15 and 15' are shaped to fit the user's fingers. They can be connected together and form a single piece of any shape.

[0073] The device is not limited to the dispensing of two doses.
