Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: Exterior handle for a motor vehicle door.
[0001] The present invention relates to a vehicle door handle, in particular a door handle for equipping an exterior door of a motor vehicle.
[0002] More specifically, the present invention relates to a handle intended to control an electric lock on a door of a vehicle comprising a device for electrically controlling an electric lock from a locked state to an unlocked state, which makes it possible to cause the opening to unhook.
[0003] A handle equipped with such an electrical control device for the electric lock is already known from the prior art, in particular from document EPI 162332B1.
[0004] Generally, the handle is defined by an inner side surface directed, in use, towards said door, and comprises first and second end connecting portions for providing an integral connection with the door, a gripping element extending between said connecting portions.
[0005] In particular, the electrical control device, which is normally mounted on the handle, is electrically connected to an actuator acting on the lock, and is manually switchable by a mechanical actuating means also mounted on the handle. For example, the actuating means is of the push-button type and is arranged in said inner side surface for electrically controlling the lock on said door.
[0006] The disadvantage of the prior art is that the actuation of the electric lock turns out to be not very ergonomic because it requires precise and localized mechanical action on the part of the user of the motor vehicle.
[0007] The object of the present invention is to provide a vehicle door handle designed to solve the above-mentioned problems in a simple, robust and inexpensive manner. Description of the invention
[0008] The invention relates in particular to a handle for a motor vehicle opening, the handle comprising a body provided with first and second end connection parts with the opening and a gripping element extending between the two connection parts, the body delimiting a housing inside which is arranged a control module for activating an electric lock of the opening and an actuating member of the control module, characterized in that the actuating member forms a lever extending longitudinally inside the gripping element and having a free end configured to cooperate directly with the control module.
[0009] Thanks to the invention, the actuating mechanism of the lock is robust and ergonomic. It requires a limited number of parts (in particular, the member actuates, for example, with a finger directly the control module). By the term "directly", it is understood that the lever and the control module cooperate with each other without an intermediary.
[0010] The handle according to the invention may further comprise one or more of the following characteristics.
[0011] In a preferred embodiment, the housing comprises a substantially transverse partition provided with an opening, separating a first compartment for housing the lever and the control module from a second compartment for the passage of at least one electrical connector connected to the module, the handle comprising a support for the control module which is configured to extend on either side of the partition so as to position the control module in the first compartment opposite said free end by guiding the electrical connector into the second compartment.
[0012] In a preferred embodiment, the support comprises a body which has a portion of solid cross-section and of a shape complementary to the opening, the portion having at least one orifice for the passage of at least said electrical connector.
[0013] In a preferred embodiment, the support comprises a bottom wall and a peripheral side wall delimiting a frontally open cavity for receiving and holding the module.
[0014] In a preferred embodiment, the support comprises an end portion snap-fittable into a wall or walls of the housing of the second space.
[0015] In a preferred embodiment, a peripheral edge of the opening has an overmolded track forming a peripheral seal, this track extending along a closed peripheral contour.
[0016] In a preferred embodiment, the lever is elastically movable through the handle body between an active position for actuating the control module and a rest position.
[0017] In a preferred embodiment, the handle body includes a deformation zone that a user can press to elastically deform the lever through the handle body that extends on an inner side of the handle.
[0018] In a preferred embodiment, the control module comprises a touch sensor provided with a touch-sensitive actuating surface, said touch-sensitive surface extending opposite said free end.
[0019] In a preferred embodiment, the control module is a switch push button.
[0020] In a preferred embodiment, the gripping element has an arcuate shape above an exterior surface of the opening.
[0021] In a preferred embodiment, the handle comprises an antenna module having at least one data transmission and reception function which is housed in the housing above the lever.
[0022] In a preferred embodiment, the two connecting portions are fixedly mounted to the door to provide a single-unit mechanical connection with the opening.
[0023] In a preferred embodiment, the free end comprises an actuating finger configured to cooperate with the control module in a direction transverse to the longitudinal direction of the lever.

[0036] Figures 1 to 11 show a handle for an exterior door of a motor vehicle, shown only in part. In the remainder of the description, the handle is designated by the general reference 10.
[0037] In the present description, the longitudinal direction corresponds to the main direction of movement of the vehicle, and the forward direction to its main direction of movement. The transverse direction is perpendicular to the longitudinal direction. The interior and the exterior are related to the vehicle. The X axis, the Y axis, the Z axis form a trihedron with axes perpendicular to each other. The orientations mentioned below refer to the normal direction of assembly in the vehicle.
[0038] [Fig. 1] represents an opening 110 of a motor vehicle 100 equipped with the handle 10 according to the invention. Here, the opening 110 is an opening of the motor vehicle 100. However, other applications are conceivable. The opening 110 is here represented from the outside of the vehicle 100.
[0039] In a non-limiting manner, the opening 110 may correspond to a door for a passenger, or even to a trunk flap. A window may translate in the opening 110 and exit from it so as to close an opening of the vehicle. The opening 110 may comprise an external sheet metal, also called skin, which forms the outer surface of the opening 110. An inner lining (not visible) may stiffen the external sheet metal by running its entire extent.
[0040] In the preferred embodiment of the invention, the opening 110 comprises a control for opening the opening 110, for example an external control. The opening control may comprise a handle 10, also called a paddle, as well as a device for locking and unlocking the opening 110 (not shown in the figures).
[0041] Conventionally, the motor vehicle 10 also comprises an opening lock (not shown) typically mounted on the opening 110 of the vehicle 100 and configured to be actuated mechanically and / or electrically.
[0042] In this example, the handle 10 is intended for operating the opening 110 as well as for actuating the opening of the lock of the motor vehicle 100.
[0043] Generally, the opening of an opening leaf 110 of a motor vehicle 100 is carried out for example by means of a lock which comprises a bolt (not shown) secured to the opening leaf 110 capable of cooperating with a striker (not shown) secured to the bodywork of the vehicle 100. In practice, the action of releasing the bolt is called opening the lock, which allows the opening leaf 110 to be unhooked. Conversely, the action of keeping the bolt in the striker is called closing the lock, which prevents the opening leaf 110 from being unhooked.
[0044] Generally, the function of the lock is to keep the opening 110 of the motor vehicle 100 in the closed position. The lock also makes it possible to unhook the opening 110. by action on the exterior opening control, here the handle, which is connected to the lock and can be operated by a user. The bolt is released from the strike plate by electrical or mechanical actuation of the exterior opening control.
[0045] The opening of the lock, and therefore of the opening leaf 110, can be carried out electrically by means of an electromechanical actuator (not shown in the figures). In this case, the actuator comprises, for example, an electric motor, electrically powered by the main electrical circuit of the vehicle. This electric motor is sized to allow the opening of the lock and of the opening leaf 110 under normal operating conditions. Preferably, this electromechanical actuator is itself configured to be triggered, for example, by slight pressure on a predefined area of the handle 10, as will be described in detail in the remainder of the description.
[0046] More particularly and as illustrated in [Fig. 2], the handle 10 comprises a body 12 provided with first and second end connection parts 14 and 16 with the exterior door 110 of the motor vehicle 100 and an intermediate gripping element 18 extending between the two connection parts 14 and 16.
[0047] As can be seen in [Fig.l], the gripping element 18 preferably has an arcuate shape extending overhanging above an exterior surface of the opening 110, in a configuration of use of the handle 10.
[0048] The handle 10 is in this example defined, on the side facing the door 110, by a profiled inner surface, for example facilitating the gripping of the handle 10 by a user. In the example illustrated in the figures, on the side facing outwards, the handle 10 has a curvilinear outer surface, which follows the arcuate shape of the gripping element 18.
[0049] Furthermore, preferably, the two connecting end parts 14 and 16 are connected in a single block in a known manner to the door 110. In the example described, the two connecting portions 14 and 16 are fixedly mounted to the door to provide a mechanical connection in a single block with the opening 110. For this purpose, the two connecting portions 14 and 16 comprise parts 19 for fixing to the opening 110, projecting from a contact face of the connecting portions 14, 16 ([Fig. 3]).
[0050] In Figures 3 to 6, the body 12 preferably delimits a hollow space 20 forming a housing for a module 30 for controlling the activation of the electric lock mounted on the door 110 and for a member 40 for actuating the control module 30. In actual use, the electric lock is electrically controlled in a known manner by the control module 30 by a mechanical action on the actuating member 40.
[0051] In particular, the actuating member 40 comprises a lever 10 extending longitudinally inside the gripping element 18. This lever 40 is movable elastically through the handle body 12 between an active position for actuating the control module 30 and a rest position which does not actuate the control module 30. Preferably, this lever 40 is made of plastic.
[0052] Preferably, the lever 40 forms an elongated element which extends along the longitudinal axis of the handle 10. In the preferred embodiment, this lever 40 is movable inside the space 20 so that the lever 40 can be moved, to cause the actuation of the control module 30 through the space 20, towards the inside of the handle 10, which corresponds in the example to the transverse direction along the Y axis, for example against an elastic restoring force.
[0053] For example, the lever 40 is configured to rotate about an axis transverse to its longitudinal direction, of activation between the rest position in which the control module 30 is not stressed and an activation position in which the lever 40 is moved to stress the control module 30. Alternatively, the lever 40 can be configured to rotate about its longitudinal direction.
[0054] As illustrated in detail in [Fig.7], the lever 40 comprises a body 42 preferably having a proximal free end 42P configured to cooperate directly with the control module 30. In the example illustrated, the free end 42P comprises an actuating finger 44 configured to cooperate with the module 30 in a direction transverse to the longitudinal direction of the lever 40.
[0055] Preferably, as illustrated again in [Fig.7], the lever 40 may comprise on its proximal end 42P lateral lugs 45 which can be clipped onto walls (in the example illustrated longitudinal) of the housing 20 of the handle 10 in order to prevent its untimely extraction from the housing 20.
[0056] For example, the control module 30 comprises a touch sensor 32 provided with a touch-sensitive actuating surface 34, said touch-sensitive surface 34 extending opposite the actuating finger 44. The control module 30 may be, for example, a push-button switch, a microswitch or any other form of sensor sensitive to mechanical pressure. For example, the actuating finger 44 further comprises a projecting relief, for example in the form of a pad, configured to extend opposite the touch-sensitive surface 34 of the control module 30.
[0057] In the example described, the lever 40 comprises a distal free end 42D pivotally mounted around a transverse axis, materialized for example by two coaxial lugs 46 projecting inside the housing 20. The lever 40 is for example assembled by clipping around the lugs 46 by this distal end 42D ([Fig.6]).
[0058] For example, the lugs 46 have a generally cylindrical shape. The distal free end 42D has, for example, a body of generally oblong shape, preferably of generally semi-cylindrical shape with a “U” shaped cross section.
[0059] Furthermore, the body 12 of the handle 10 comprises a deformation zone 60 of generally oblong shape in the longitudinal direction of the lever 40 on which a user can press to elastically move the lever 40 through the body 12 of the handle 10, on an inner side 121 of the body 12 of the handle 10.
[0060] Preferably, as can be seen in Figures 6, 1 1A, 1 1B, the handle 10 also comprises a member 22 for elastically returning the lever 40 to its rest position, as soon as the pressure exerted on the deformation zone 60 by the user on the handle 10 is released.
[0061] As illustrated in [Fig. 3], the elastic member 22 is for example mounted on a guide rod 23, which projects for example from a surface of the body 12 of the handle 10 and which extends longitudinally in the direction of movement of the lever 40. The elastic member 22 comprises for example a helical coil spring which adopts a compressed active configuration when the lever 40 is in the active position and a released and extended rest configuration in the rest position of the lever 40. In the example described, the rod 23 extends through the body 42 of the lever 40 by a bore.
[0062] For example, the body 12 of the handle 10 comprises a first rigid, non-deformable part 62 provided on the inner surface 121 of the handle 10 with a substantially central opening 63 elongated in the longitudinal direction of the handle 10. This first part 62 is for example in at least two pieces 64, 66 and preferably comprises an outer covering shell 64 and a structural base 66 on which the outer covering shell 64 is mounted.
[0063] The first part 62 is for example made of plastic material, for example by injection molding of a plastic material such as a thermoplastic material. For example, the plastic material is chosen from polyethylene, polypropylene, ABS, polyamide (PA) or any equivalent material.
[0064] In this example, the first part 62 is made of a material essentially comprising polyamide (PA) filled with 30% glass fibers. In particular, the polyamide may be polyamide of the Polycaprolactam type, better known under the reference PA6, or polyamide of the Polyhexamethylene adipamide type, better known under the reference PA6-6 or a mixture of the two.
[0065] The body 12 of the handle 10 preferably comprises a second deformable part 60 shaped to close the central opening 63, this second deformable part 60 forming the deformation zone.
[0066] Preferably, the deformation zone 60 is formed by a layer of flexible material, for example made of thermoplastic elastomer material. Preferably, the elastomer material has a Shore A of between 30 and 70, preferably between 40 and 60, for example 50. The deformable flexible material may be silicone or rubber or an elastomer such as EPDM (ethylene-propylene-diene monomer) or a thermoplastic elastomer.
[0067] As illustrated in [Fig. 4], the structural base 66 of the body 12 of the handle 10 comprises a bottom wall 68, for example of generally arcuate shape, and side walls 69 projecting outwards from the bottom wall 68. These side walls 69 for example extend in a longitudinal direction and a transverse direction relative to the longitudinal axis of the handle 10. Furthermore, these side walls 69 delimit housing compartments inside the hollow space 20 in the body 12 of the handle 10.
[0068] The side walls 69 are preferably reinforced by stiffening ribs 71. These ribs 71 have the advantage of stiffening and reinforcing the mechanical strength of the walls of the housing 20.
[0069] In the example described, the housing 20 of the body 12 of the handle 10 comprises at least one substantially transverse partition 72 separating a first compartment 76 for housing the lever 40 and the control module 30 from a second compartment 78.
[0070] As can be seen in [Fig. 10], the partition 72 is provided with an opening 74 for the passage of at least one electrical connector 36 connected to the control module 30 between the two compartments 76 and 78.
[0071] Furthermore, the handle 10 comprises a support 90 of the control module 30 which is configured to extend on either side of the partition 72 so as to position the control module 30 in the first compartment 76 opposite the finger 44 by guiding the electrical connector 36 in the second compartment 78.
[0072] As illustrated in [Fig.9], the support 90 comprises, for example in a first part 94A, a bottom wall and a peripheral side wall delimiting a cavity 95 open at the front for receiving and holding the module 30. This cavity 95 forms for example a tank for containing a mass of sealing material which can flow in a first state and which can solidify in a second state, for example a polymer resin. In this example, the module 30 as well as the passage orifice of the connector 36 are entirely embedded in this mass of sealing material.
[0073] The support 90 comprises, in a second part 94B, an end portion which can be snapped into at least one wall 69 of the housing of the second compartment 78. In the example illustrated in the figure, the support 90 comprises two tabs 96 provided with a snap-in relief 98 which projects radially outwards and which cooperate with two walls 69 extending longitudinally opposite one another in the second compartment 78.
[0074] Preferably, the support 90 comprises a body 92 which has a portion 94C of solid section and of complementary shape transverse to the opening 74 so as to close said opening 74 by complementarity of shape.
[0075] Preferably, as can be seen in [Fig. 10], the portion 94C has at least one orifice for the passage of at least one electrical connector 36. In the example illustrated, the portion 94C has three orifices, each for the passage of an electrical connector 36. The three electrical connectors 36 form, for example, a bundle which is enveloped in a sheath 37.
[0076] Preferably, the handle 10 further comprises an antenna module (not shown in the figures) having at least one data transmission and reception function which is housed in the housing 20, for example above the actuating lever 40 of the handle 10.
[0077] In a manner known per se, this antenna module comprises an antenna, for example for detecting or transmitting signals. This module may include for example an antenna (or a capacitive sensor or the passive input device).
[0078] The antenna may receive a signal from a transmitting device (such as a key fob or similar device carried by the driver of the vehicle) and / or may detect the presence or proximity of a person or a person's hand at or near the door handle, and may generate an output signal indicating such detection. The external control may respond to the antenna to authenticate or recognize the person at the vehicle door and to actuate the door locking device to ultimately authorize the opening of the door.
[0079] It is desirable to seal the body 12 of the handle 10 as well as possible in order to protect the interior of the housing 20 from any intrusion of humidity and in particular in order to protect the metal parts of the electronic elements from premature aging due to oxidation.
[0080] For this purpose, the first compartment 76 comprises, in the example described, an upper closure cover 80. Preferably, the first compartment 76 has, on its peripheral edge 82 joining with the cover 80, a circumferential seal 84 on this periphery.
[0081] Preferably, the seal 84 is added by overmolding a track along the peripheral edge of the first compartment 76, following a closed peripheral contour. Preferably, the face of the cover 80 opposite the face provided with the seal 84 may include a complementary groove (not shown) to receive the seal 84.
[0082] Furthermore, in the example illustrated in [Fig. 5], the two connecting parts 14, 16 comprise a face in contact with an outer surface of the door each carrying a layer 14S, 16S of deformable flexible material, to form a seal between the handle 10 and the surface of the opening 110. Indeed, the connection of the handle 10 with the surface of the opening may present entry points for humidity and dust. This seal must then withstand thermal and mechanical stresses. to which the handle 10 may be subjected.
[0083] For example, the layer 14S, 16S covers substantially the entire surface of the contact face of each connecting part 14, 16 and forms, for example, a sealing pad which seals the handle 10 against the outer surface of the opening 110.
[0084] The layer of flexible material is for example made of the same material as the deformation zone 60. For example, the flexible material is a thermoplastic elastomer material. Preferably, the thermoplastic elastomer material has a Shore A of between 30 and 70, preferably between 40 and 60, for example 50. The deformable flexible material may be silicone or rubber or an elastomer such as EPDM (ethylene-propylene-diene monomer) or a thermoplastic elastomer.
[0085] As can be seen in [Fig. 5], the part made of deformable flexible material of the layer 14S, 16S may have a sealing lip 15 arranged at the periphery which is preferably made in one piece with the layer 14S, 16S. Thus, in this example, this sealing lip 15 locally forms a surplus of material which, when compressed, guarantees a sealing barrier to any form of environmental pollution external to the handle 10.
[0086] Furthermore, preferably, the peripheral edge of the opening 74 has an overmolded track forming a peripheral seal, this track extending along a closed peripheral contour. This makes it possible to guarantee complete sealing of the compartment 76 with respect to the exterior, around the support 90 of the control module 30. Furthermore, in the example described, the parts 94A, 94B of the support 90 are separated in a sealed manner by the middle portion 94C whose passage orifices of the connectors 36 are embedded in the sealing mass which fills the cavity 95 of the part 94A comprising the control module 30.
[0087] The main aspects related to the operation of the invention will now be described with reference to Figures 1 to 11.
[0088] In the example illustrated in the figures, the body 12 of the handle 10 is presented in several parts, in particular a first rigid part 62 and a second deformable part 60. This second part 60 is preferably produced by overmolding an elastomer material onto the first part 62.
[0089] Preferably, the handle 10 is produced for example during a process of injecting at least two different materials into a molding installation. The molding installation comprises at least one mold. This mold comprises for example a lower half-mold and an upper half-mold defining a molding cavity or molding impression.
[0090] Initially, an operator pairs the half-molds. Then, the method comprises a step of injecting the first material of the rigid part 62 into the mold cavity, a step of solidifying the rigid part 62 of the handle 10 and a step of demolding the rigid part 62 of the handle 10.
[0091] Then, the operator carries out a step of overmolding the second material to form the deformable part 60 on the rigid part 62, for example in another mold or another part of the previous mold which defines at least the shape of the deformable part 60. In addition, other surfaces are overmolded during this overmolding step, in particular the layers 14S, 16S, the overmolded track of the edge of the opening 74 as well as the circumferential seal 84.
[0092] Preferably, the first material has a higher hardness when solidified than the second material.
[0093] Then, the lever 40 is mounted in the first compartment 76, preferably by clipping its distal end 42P onto the lugs 46.
[0094] Then, in this example, the control module 30 mounted in a sealed manner on its support 90 is introduced into the first compartment 76 while the connector 36 is guided inside the second compartment 78 through the partition 72.
[0095] Furthermore, preferably, the support 90 is configured to extend on either side of the partition 72 so as to position the control module 30 in the first compartment 76 opposite said free end 42P of the lever 40.
[0096] For this purpose, preferably, the module 30 is inserted by complementary shape inside the opening 74 of the partition 72.
[0097] In the example described, the first compartment 76 is then closed by the cover 80, then the assembly is covered by the outer covering shell 64.
[0098] Of course, the invention is not limited to the embodiments previously described. Other embodiments within the reach of those skilled in the art may also be envisaged without departing from the scope of the invention defined by the claims below.
