Description

Title of the invention: Protective and sealing device for turbine wheel. Technical field

[0001] The present disclosure falls within the field of protection and sealing components of turbomachine turbines. Previous technique

[0002] A turbine of a turbomachine such as illustrated in [Fig. 1] is known from prior art. The turbomachine comprises a longitudinal axis parallel to the X-axis shown.

[0003] The turbine 10 is arranged downstream of an annular combustion chamber 12 and comprises several wheels 14 arranged alternately with annular rows of fixed blades 16.

[0004] The wheels 14 are driven in rotation by the flow of hot gases exiting the combustion chamber 12. A wheel 14 comprises a disc 18 having on its outer periphery a plurality of longitudinal dovetail or similar hollows 20 in which are axially engaged and radially retained by cooperation of form the feet 22 of blades, called movable blades 24.

[0005] To this end, the blade feet 22 have a bulbous shape ensuring their radial retention in the alveoli 20 of the disc 18, which are laterally (circumferentially) delimited by ribs 23.

[0006] As illustrated in [Fig.2], a blade 24 thus comprises a foot 22 connected externally to a platform 26 extending circumferentially, and a blade 28 receiving the flow of hot gases and extending radially from the platform 26.

[0007] The platforms 26 extend circumferentially end to end so as to form an annular wall internally delimiting (radially inside) the annular flow vein of hot gases and preventing the reintroduction of hot gases at the level of the internal periphery of the disc 18.

[0008] Each blade foot 22 comprises at its upstream and downstream ends a projecting portion 30 extending circumferentially and arranged immediately above a rib 23 of the disk 18, also called a tooth 23 of the disk 18 ([Fig. 3]). These projecting portions, or walls 30 or stilts 30, bear against the ribs 23 of the disk 18, thereby limiting the circumferential tilting of the blade feet 22 during operation. These walls 30 also limit the reintroduction of hot gases between the platforms 26 and the ribs 23, thus preventing significant heating of the disk 18.

[0009] The wheels 14 carrying the blades 24 arranged alternately with the annular rows of fixed blades 16 are arranged from upstream to downstream (axially) in successive stages. [Fig. 3] illustrates the first stage 32 and the second stage 34 of the turbine 10 of [Fig. 1].

[0010] As illustrated in more detail in [Fig.4A], the turbine 10 includes an axial retaining ring 36 (shown in color in [Fig.4A]) of the first stage wheel 32, the disc 38 carrying movable blades 24 and the axial retaining ring 36 bearing on the disc 38 of the first stage wheel 32.

[0011] The cooling circuit for the bottom of the longitudinal cells requires the presence of a movable ring 42 (shown in color on [Fig.4B]) which ensures said cooling by sealing.

[0012] As illustrated in more detail in [Fig.4B], the turbine 10 has such a movable ring 42 arranged axially between the first stage 32 and the second stage 34.

[0013] The movable ring 42 is held by a bolted connection 44 between the first-stage disc 38 and the second-stage disc 46 and allows the retaining ring 36 arranged upstream to be tightened. In this way, the retaining ring 36 is pinched by the ribs 23 of the first-stage disc 38 and the movable ring 42.

[0014] In operation, the blades 24 are subjected to vibrations generating contact and friction forces between the blade feet 22 and the disc 18, in particular at the level of the ribs 23 and the cells 20 of the disc 18.

[0015] It is known from prior art to use shims (metal sheets with a particular shape) arranged at the contact interface between the blade feet and the disc in order to protect said contact interface.

[0016] It has been observed that contact forces by friction also occur at the contact interface between the downstream faces of the longitudinal ribs and the retaining ring, on the one hand, and at the contact interface between the upstream faces of the longitudinal ribs and the movable ring, on the other hand.

[0017] These frictions between the parts facing axially can damage the longitudinal ribs to the point of preventing the proper functioning of the disc having said ribs, they therefore reduce the life of the wheel of said disc.

[0018] The present document proposes a solution to the problems of the prior art mentioned above. Summary

[0019] To this end, the present document proposes a longitudinal axis turbomachine turbine wheel comprising: - a disc comprising on its outer periphery longitudinal ribs delimiting longitudinal alveoli;

[0020] - a plurality of blades carried by the disk, each blade comprising an engaged foot axially and retained radially in a longitudinal alveolus of the disc;

[0021] - a plurality of protective and sealing elements, each protective element and sealing system comprising:

[0022] — a first part mounted and held by cooperation of form in a cell longitudinally radially between the foot and said longitudinal alveolus, said first part being suitable for protecting the sides of the longitudinal alveolus and the foot;

[0023] — at least a second part connected to a first axial end of thefirst part and extending circumferentially so that a first lateral portion applies to an end face of a first longitudinal rib and a second opposite lateral portion applies to an end face of a second longitudinal rib circumferentially adjacent to the first longitudinal rib, said at least a second part being capable of protecting the end faces of the first longitudinal rib and the second longitudinal rib, said first lateral portion of said protective and sealing element cooperating in sealing with a second lateral portion of a first protective and sealing element circumferentially adjacent to said protective and sealing element, said second lateral portion of said protective and sealing element cooperating in sealing with a first lateral portion of a second protective element circumferentially adjacent to said protective and sealing element, so as to form a sealing ring for the longitudinal cells and protection of the longitudinal ribs.

[0024] The terms axial, radial and circumferential are defined with respect to the longitudinal axis of the turbomachine.

[0025] Taken together, the second parts of the protection and sealing elements arranged end to end form a sealing ring which is composed of several circumferential segments, each circumferential segment corresponding to a second part of a protection and sealing element.

[0026] Each protective and sealing element performs the following functions: - Protection of the sides of the longitudinal cell and the foot by means of the first part; - Protection of the end faces of the first and second longitudinal ribs by means of the first and second lateral portions of said component, at least one other part. In this way, the protective and sealing element reduces potential wear from contact by friction on the end faces of the longitudinal ribs with an axially opposite element. Furthermore, the protective and sealing element prevents possible impacts occurring on the end faces of the longitudinal ribs; - A seal at the level of the longitudinal cells by means of said at least a second part extending circumferentially. In this way, leakage at said longitudinal cells is limited.

[0027] The protective and sealing element can be a shim. By shim is meant a sheet metal part that can be bent and shaped.

[0028] According to one embodiment, said at least one second part may comprise: - a second upstream part connected to the first axial end (an upstream end) of the first part; and - a second downstream part connected to a second axial end (a downstream end) of the first part, said first axial end being opposite the second axial end.

[0029] In this way, the upstream and downstream end faces of the first longitudinal rib and the second longitudinal rib are protected.

[0030] In addition, a sealing ring for the longitudinal cells and protection of the upstream longitudinal ribs, as well as a sealing ring for the longitudinal cells and protection of the downstream longitudinal ribs are formed.

[0031] According to another embodiment, in the case of strictly longitudinal ribs and cells, at least one protection and sealing element, preferably each protection and sealing element, can be symmetrical with respect to a radial plane comprising the longitudinal axis and the middle of the longitudinal cell.

[0032] In other words, the first part and said at least a second part have a plane of symmetry which is the radial plane.

[0033] In this way, the protective and sealing element ensures the same protection for the first longitudinal rib and for the second longitudinal rib and facilitates the design.

[0034] Said first lateral portion of said protection and sealing member can cooperate with the second lateral portion of the first circumferentially adjacent protection and sealing member and said second lateral portion of said protection and sealing member can cooperate with a first lateral portion of the second circumferentially adjacent protection and sealing member, so as to form circumferential clearances.

[0035] In other words, there is no circumferential overlap between the protective and sealing elements. More specifically, a lateral edge of a first lateral portion is spaced by a circumferential gap from a lateral edge of a second lateral portion opposite it circumferentially.

[0036] The manufacturing process for such a protective and sealing element is simplified; it only requires a simple cutting.

[0037] In a configuration, each second part can have the shape of a quadrilateral such that the circumferential clearance is constant over the radial height of each second part.

[0038] More particularly, each second part may comprise a radially internal edge and a radially external edge connected at their circumferential ends by lateral edges. Thus, a lateral edge of a second part of a first protective and sealing element is arranged with a circumferential gap jl opposite a lateral edge of a second part of a second protective and sealing element circumferentially adjacent to the first protective and sealing element.

[0039] In order for this play to be substantially constant, the angle formed between the lateral edge and the radially external edge can be between 85° and 89°.

[0040] For example, the angle formed between the lateral edge and the radially external edge can be equal to 88.75°.

[0041] In other words, said angle makes it possible to take into account the revolution of the sealing ring of the longitudinal cells and the protection of the longitudinal ribs.

[0042] Optionally, said angle can be adapted according to the number of longitudinal cells of the disk. For example, said angle can be equal to 90 - (360 / (2*N)), where N is the number of longitudinal cells of the disk.

[0043] Said first lateral portion of said protection and sealing member can cooperate in form with the second lateral portion of the first circumferentially adjacent protection and sealing member and said second lateral portion of said protection and sealing member can cooperate in form with the first lateral portion of the second circumferentially adjacent protection and sealing member.

[0044] The interlocking shape of the protective and sealing element with the first and second adjacent protective and sealing elements creates overlapping zones. This improves the sealing function of the longitudinal ridge sealing ring and the protection of the longitudinal ribs, thereby reducing leakage.

[0045] Said at least a second part may comprise a base from which the first lateral portion and the second lateral portion extend, the first lateral portion and the second lateral portion comprising a thickness equal to half a thickness of the base, the first lateral portion extending from a first axial face of the base, the second lateral portion extending from a second axial face of the base, said second axial face being opposite the first axial face.

[0046] The form cooperation is thus achieved by interlocking a first lateral portion with a second complementary lateral portion. The thickness of the first and second lateral portions can be achieved by material removal.

[0047] The first axial face of the base can be an end face of the protection and sealing member so that the first lateral portion is on the extrados side and the second lateral portion is on the intrados side.

[0048] In this way, the sealing provided by the protective and sealing element is improved.

[0049] The first lateral portion and the second lateral portion may be bevel-shaped.

[0050] The overlap formed by the harmonious shape of the lateral portions is thus progressive, as the thickness of the bevel gradually decreases towards its circumferential end. This allows for a smooth overlap at the point of contact, thereby improving the sealing of the longitudinal ridge seal and the protection of the longitudinal ribs, and thus reducing leakage.

[0051] Furthermore, the axial retaining ring or the movable ring (depending on the arrangement upstream and / or downstream of the second part(s)) exerts a contact force on the lateral portion extending from the end face of the protective and sealing element. This allows the first and second lateral portions to be pressed against the overlapping areas and thus further improves the sealing of the ring protecting the longitudinal cells and the longitudinal ribs.

[0052] The first part may include at least one connecting tab to said at least a second part, said at least one connecting tab comprising the first axial end of the first part.

[0053] The first part may include an axial foot retention tab, which first part may include a second axial end opposite to the first axial end.

[0054] This document may also relate to a turbine, such as a low-pressure turbine, for a longitudinally axis aircraft turbomachine comprising a wheel of the type mentioned above, a movable ring arranged upstream of the wheel and / or an axial retaining ring of the blade, so that the movable ring and / or the axial retaining ring of the blade are in axial contact with the first lateral portion and the second lateral portion of each protective and sealing element.

[0055] The first axial end of the first part can be an upstream end. In this case, the second part connected to the upstream end reduces contact wear by friction between the upstream faces of the longitudinal ribs and a movable ring ensuring the cooling of the cell bottoms.

[0056] The first axial end of the first part can be a downstream end. In this case, the second part connected to the downstream end helps to reduce contact wear. by friction between the downstream faces of the longitudinal ribs and an axial retaining ring of the blade.

[0057] Optionally, a second upstream part can be connected to the upstream end of the first part and a second downstream part can be connected to the downstream end of the first part. This ensures protection and sealing both upstream and downstream.

[0058] In other words, the wheel may include a first and a second sealing ring for the longitudinal cells and for protecting the longitudinal ribs, which are arranged axially on either side of the wheel.

[0059] This document may also relate to a longitudinal axis turbomachine, such as an aircraft turbojet or turboprop, comprising a turbine of the type mentioned above.

[0060] Said turbomachine may be a turbojet or a turboprop.

[0061] This document may also relate to an aircraft comprising at least one turbomachine of the aforementioned type.

[0062] Said aircraft may be an airplane or a rotary-wing aircraft.

[0082] Figures 5 and 6 illustrate a first embodiment of the protection and sealing device.

[0083] The protective and sealing element 500 comprises a first part 510.

[0084] The first part 510 is dovetail shaped so as to be complementary in shape to the blade foot which it encloses. The first part 510 comprises a base 511 from which circumferential spans 517 extend circumferentially on either side.

[0085] The circumferential spans 517 are positioned at the contact interface between the sides of the blade foot and the two circumferentially adjacent longitudinal ribs.

[0086] The X' axis is an axis parallel to the longitudinal axis of the turbomachine and the X axis of the [Fig.1].

[0087] The first part 510 further includes axially on either side a connecting tab 512 having a first axial end 514, and an axial retaining tab 516 having a second axial end 518 which is arranged axially opposite to the first axial end 514.

[0088] Figure 5 represents the axial retention tab 516 in a state before being folded. to ensure its function of axial retention of the blade foot.

[0089] The protective and sealing element 500 comprises a second part 520 directly connected to the first axial end 514 of the connecting tab 512 of the first part 510.

[0090] The second part 520 is substantially rectangular and forms a protective plate. It comprises a base 522 from which extend circumferentially on either side a first lateral portion 524 and a second lateral portion 526. In other words, the first lateral portion 524 extends circumferentially from a first lateral edge 522a of the base 522 and the second lateral portion 526 extends circumferentially from a second lateral edge 522b of the base 522.

[0091] The radially external and lateral angle of the first lateral portion 524 is an angle a and the radially external and lateral angle of the second lateral portion is an angle [3. In other words, a lateral edge 524a of the first lateral portion 524 and a radially external edge 524b of the first lateral portion 524 form an angle a, and a lateral edge 526a of the second lateral portion 526 and a radially external edge 526b of the second lateral portion 526 form an angle [3.

[0092] In the illustrated embodiment, the angles a and [3 are identical.

[0093] The first part 510 and the second part 520 have a plane of symmetry which is radial and intersects the X' axis.

[0094] In other words, on the flattened view of [Fig.6], the first part 510 and the second part 520 have an axis of symmetry which is the X' axis.

[0095] Reference is now made to Figures 7 and 8 which illustrate the protective and sealing element 500, a first circumferentially adjacent protective and sealing element 500' and a first lateral portion 524” of a second portion 520” of a second circumferentially adjacent protective and sealing element 500”, said protective and sealing elements being protective and sealing elements according to the embodiment of [Fig.5] (the first embodiment).

[0096] The protective and sealing element 500 is arranged circumferentially between the first protective and sealing element 500' and the second protective and sealing element 500', such that the first lateral portion 524 of the protective and sealing element 500 is circumferentially opposite and cooperates with the second lateral portion 526' of the first protective and sealing element 500' and such that the second lateral portion 526 of the protective and sealing element 500 is circumferentially opposite and cooperates with the first lateral portion 524'' of the second protective and sealing element 500'.

[0097] The protective and sealing element 500 encloses the bottom and sides of a corresponding blade foot 22 so as to protect it from contact with a first longitudinal rib 23a and a second longitudinal rib 23b. The longitudinal ribs 23a, 23b delimit a longitudinal cavity 20 which receives the blade foot 22 enveloped by the protection and sealing element 500.

[0098] As illustrated in [Fig.8], the first lateral portion 524 of the protective and sealing member 500 cooperates with the second lateral portion 526' of the first protective and sealing member 500' so that there is a circumferential gap j1 between the lateral edges 524a, 526a' of the first lateral portion 524 and the second lateral portion 526', the lateral edges 524a, 526a' being circumferentially opposite each other.

[0099] The lateral edge 526a' of the second lateral portion 526' forms with a radially external edge 526b' of the second lateral portion 526' of the first protective and sealing member 500' an angle [3' (similarly to the angle |3).

[0100] In order to minimize leakage and thus to minimize the circumferential play j 1, the angles a, [3' can be adjusted. This is of course also the case for the angles a', [3, a” and |3” (some being not shown, but similar to a and [3 for the first protective and sealing member 500' or the second protective and sealing member 500”), or indeed any angle of a protective and sealing member formed by a radially external edge of a corresponding second part and a lateral edge of said corresponding second part.

[0101] The angle values depend on the number of blades in the wheel (and therefore the number of cells): the more blades there are, the closer the lateral edges will be to a configuration in which they are parallel, in order to follow the annular shape of the disk. In other words, the more blades there are, the closer the angles will be to 90°.

[0102] For example, we can have: 0 = 90 - (360 / (2*N)), with N the number of longitudinal alveoli of the disc, 0 being any angle among a, [3, a', |3', a” and |3”, or any angle of a protective and sealing element formed by a radially external edge of a corresponding second part and a lateral edge of said corresponding second part.

[0103] Figures 9 and 10 illustrate a second embodiment of the protection and sealing element 500.

[0104] In this embodiment, the first lateral portion 524 extends circumferentially from a first lateral edge 522a of the base 522 and a first axial face 528 of the end of the base 522 (external face, i.e. opening out in a direction opposite to the first part 510), and the second lateral portion 526 extends circumferentially from a second lateral edge 522b of the base 522 and a second axial face 529 of the base 522 (internal face, i.e. opening out towards the first part 510), which second axial face 529 is opposite to the first axial face 528.

[0105] The first lateral portion 524 and the second lateral portion 526 have a thickness el equal to half the thickness e2 of the base 522. By thickness, we mean the axial dimension.

[0106] Reference is now made to Figures 11 to 13 which illustrate the protective and sealing element 500, a first circumferentially adjacent protective and sealing element 500' and a second part 520” of a second circumferentially adjacent protective and sealing element 500”, said protective and sealing elements being protective and sealing elements according to the embodiment of [Fig.9] (the second embodiment).

[0107] The first lateral portion 524 of the protection and sealing element 500 cooperates with the second lateral portion 526' of the first protection and sealing element 500' and the second lateral portion 526 of the protection and sealing element 500 cooperates with the first lateral portion 524” of the second protection and sealing element 500” so as to form overlapping zones 530, 532 respectively.

[0108] Fig. 12 illustrates the overlap zone 530 which is formed by an axial overlap by contact between the first lateral portion 524 of the protection and sealing member 500 and the second lateral portion 526' of the first protection and sealing member 500', the second lateral portion 526' extending from a base 522' of a second part 520' of the first protection and sealing member 500').

[0109] In particular, this axial overlap is partial: the first lateral portion 524 extends partly axially opposite the second lateral portion 526' such that a circumferential gap j2 exists between the lateral edge 524a of the first lateral portion 524 and the lateral edge 522b' of a base 522' of the first protective and sealing element 500'. This gap j2 also exists between the lateral edge 526a' of the second lateral portion 526' and the lateral edge 522a of the base 522.

[0110] In operation, this configuration helps to limit leakage since the overlap zone 530 is closed.

[0111] Figures 13 and 14 illustrate a third embodiment of the protection and sealing element.

[0112] In this embodiment, the first lateral portion 524 extends circumferentially from a first lateral edge 522a of the base 522 so as to form a first bevel 524.

[0113] As illustrated in detail in [Fig.14], the first bevel 524 has a thickness forming a right triangle whose segment 524d, axially opposite to the hypotenuse 524e, extends circumferentially from a first axial face 528 at the end of the base 522.

[0114] Similarly, the second lateral portion 526 extends circumferentially from a second lateral edge 522b of the base 522 so as to form a second bevel 526.

[0115] The second bevel 526 has a thickness forming a right triangle whose segment 526d, axially opposite to the hypotenuse 526e, extends circumferentially from a second axial face 529 at the end of the base 522 opposite the first axial face 528.

[0116] Reference is now made to Figures 15 and 16 which illustrate the protective and sealing element 500, a first circumferentially adjacent protective and sealing element 500' and a second part 520" of a second circumferentially adjacent protective and sealing element 500", said protective and sealing elements being protective and sealing elements according to the embodiment of [Fig. 13] (the third embodiment).

[0117] The first lateral portion 524 of the protection and sealing element 500 cooperates with the second lateral portion 526' of the first protection and sealing element 500' and the second lateral portion 526 of the protection and sealing element 500 cooperates with the first lateral portion 524” of the second protection and sealing element 500” so as to form respective overlapping zones 534, 536.

[0118] Fig. 16 illustrates the overlap zone 534 which is formed by an axial overlap by contact between the first bevel 524 of the protective and sealing member 500 and the second bevel 526' of the first circumferentially adjacent protective and sealing member 500'.

[0119] In particular, this overlap is an axial overlap by contact between the hypotenuse 524e of the first bevel 524 and a hypotenuse 526e' of a second bevel 526' of the first protective and sealing member 500', so that the lateral end 524a (i.e. the lateral edge 524a or the tip 524a) of the first bevel 524 is in contact with a lateral edge 522b' of a base 522' of the first protective and sealing member 500', and that the lateral end 526a' (i.e. the lateral edge 526a' or the tip 526a') of the second bevel 526' is in contact with the lateral edge 522b of the base 522 of the protective and sealing member 500.

[0120] By the point of a bevel, we mean the point of intersection between the corresponding hypotenuse and the segment axially opposite to said hypotenuse.

[0121] In operation, this configuration helps to limit leakage since the overlap zone 534 is closed. Furthermore, the overlap zone 534 (as well as the overlap zone 536) is progressive, which creates a fluid overlap and improves sealing.

[0122] It is to be understood in the embodiments illustrated in figures 5 to 16 that the characteristics of the sealing protection element 500 are transposable to the first and second circumferentially adjacent protection and sealing elements 500', 500”.
