Abstract
Description
Title of the invention: MULTIFUNCTIONAL HOLD CLIP AND ASSOCIATED SUPPORT
[0001] The present invention relates to a multifunctional retaining clip for an associated support.
[0002] One of the functions of this retaining clip is to hold two turns of the same windable element. The invention will be described here in a particular example where the windable element is an electrical cable. However, this example is not limiting, as the windable element could just as easily be a non-electrical cable, a pipe, or even a rope.
[0003] Coils of electrical cable are sometimes packaged in a thin plastic wrap. This packaging allows the coil to be held in place throughout its service life, including when stored.
[0004] However, in some cases, the coils are not wrapped in plastic, nor even in a cardboard box that would also hold the cable in place. Indeed, since packaging waste is intended to be reduced as much as possible, it is expected that most of the coils will be packaged with simple ties or other minimalist means.
[0005] Moreover, in the case of the use of certain crown unwinders, the crowns are bare, without any packaging or ties.
[0006] Thus, in many cases, the retention of the free end of the cable from the reel can currently only be ensured by the use of adhesive to associate the free end of the cable with the reel itself, in order to avoid untimely unwinding which would complicate the storage and subsequent use of the reel and which could degrade the cable thus unwound.
[0007] There is therefore a need for a solution for holding the free end of the cable of a coil, which in particular makes it possible to avoid the use of adhesive, the latter being disposable, therefore not durable and difficult to implement.
[0008] The present invention aims to meet this need and to remedy the aforementioned drawbacks of the prior art.
[0009] To this end, the present invention proposes a multifunctional retaining clip, remarkable in that it comprises: a pair of grooves adapted to retain two adjacent turns of the same windable element or to hold one or two objects that are at least partially cylindrical, the cross-section of the pair of grooves forming an omega shape whose central branch is common to both grooves of the pair of grooves; and a C-groove whose opening is opposite to the opening of the pair of grooves, the grooves of the pair of grooves and the C-groove being adapted to clip onto a support and the C-groove being further adapted to fit coaxially into a groove of the pair of grooves of another identical clip.
[0010] The invention allows, thanks to the pair of omega-shaped grooves, the free end of the cable from the coil to be secured to an adjacent cable loop, and thanks to the C-shaped groove and the two omega-shaped grooves, the clip to be stored on a multitude of supports and identical clips to be joined together. This multifunctional clip is also capable of holding at least two partially cylindrical objects in the pair of grooves. This clip offers numerous advantages: it is quick and easy to install, reusable, not easily lost, robust due to its design, and easy to store on many different supports.
[0011] In addition, the clip according to the invention can be made in two sizes to cover all the most common cable sections, such as R2V 3G, 4G, 5G with a cross-section of 1.5 mm2 and 2.5 mm2 and their equivalents, i.e. cables with a cross-section of 8 to 10 mm for one of the clip sizes and 10 to 12 mm for the other size.
[0012] In a particular embodiment, the internal surface of the two grooves of the pair of grooves is provided with undulations.
[0013] This allows the clip to be securely attached to the rollable element without damaging it, as the corrugations provide gentle contact with the rollable element. Furthermore, the corrugations improve the clip's flexibility, thereby increasing its adaptability to different rollable element cross-sections.
[0014] In a particular embodiment, the clip is made of a polymeric material.
[0015] This allows for a choice between multiple materials that are both robust and sufficiently flexible to allow the operations of inserting the rollable element into the pair of omega grooves and clipping the clip onto a support with a minimum of effort.
[0016] In a particular embodiment, the polymeric material is bio-based.
[0017] In a particular embodiment, the polymeric material is biodegradable.
[0018] Each of the two possible special features above makes it possible to reduce the environmental impact of the clip.
[0019] In a particular embodiment, the clip includes a differentiating element depending on the size of the clip.
[0020] This allows the user to know instantly which dimensions of rollable element sections the clip is suitable for.
[0021] In a particular embodiment, this differentiating element is the color of the clip.
[0022] When the windable element is an electrical cable, this makes it possible to match the color of the clip to the color coding known to electricians for the different cable sections.
[0023] In a particular embodiment, the differentiating element is a specific shape imprint made in the material of the clip.
[0024] This allows the user to know instantly what dimensions of windable element sections the clip is suitable for, even when the windable element is not an electrical cable and there is no official color coding for this windable element.
[0025] For the same purpose as indicated above, the present invention also proposes a clip support, remarkable in that it is adapted to the fixing of at least one clip as briefly described above, by clipping the groove in C.
[0026] In a particular embodiment, the clip support includes at least one C-groove fixing location.
[0027] This allows multiple clips to be stored simultaneously.
[0028] In a particular embodiment, the clip support comprises, on a first face, a cylindrical bar having a first plurality of C-groove fixing locations and, on a second face opposite to the first face, a plurality of cylindrical rods with axes perpendicular to the axis of the bar and constituting a second plurality of C-groove fixing locations.
[0029] This allows for increased clip storage space.
[0030] In a particular embodiment, the clip support includes a plate equipped with fixing screws, adapted for fixing the clip support onto a reel support.
[0031] This allows the user of a reel to have clips for holding the element wound on the reel within easy reach without risk of losing these clips and also to have within easy reach up to two at least partially cylindrical objects such as a ballpoint pen, a marker or a small tool, held in each clip. [0040] Figure 1 illustrates a particular embodiment of a multi-functional retaining clip 10 according to the present invention. The clip 10 is shown in the installed position on a windable element consisting, in this non-limiting example, of an electrical cable, which is wound in the form of a cable coil.
[0041] A first function of the clip 10 is to retain two adjacent turns 12, 14 which are part of the same windable element, here the cable.
[0042] For this purpose, the clip 10 has a pair of grooves 16, 18 having a cross-section forming an omega, adapted to retain these two turns 12, 14. The central branch of the omega is common to the two grooves of the pair of grooves 16, 18.
[0043] A second function of the clip 10 is, instead of retaining the two coils 12, 14, to hold one or two objects that are at least partially cylindrical, namely one object that is at least partially cylindrical in each of the two grooves of the pair of grooves 16, 18, the diameter of the cylindrical part of the object being equal to or slightly greater than the inside diameter of each groove. This object could, for example, be a ballpoint pen, a marker (such as a felt-tip pen or marker specifically designed for writing on electrical cables), or even a small tool.
[0044] The clip 10 further includes a C-shaped groove 19, the opening of which is opposite to the opening of the pair of grooves 16, 18.
[0045] A third function of the clip 10 is that the grooves of the pair of grooves 16, 18 and the groove 19 in C are adapted to clip onto a support, as described in more detail below.
[0046] Furthermore, the part of the clip 10 where the groove 19 in C is located can advantageously serve as a means of gripping the clip 10, which makes it possible, for example, to easily position the clip 10 on two adjacent turns of the windable element and to easily release these turns by holding the clip 10 by the groove 19 in C with one hand and releasing the windable element with the other hand.
[0047] As shown in [Fig.2], a fourth function of the clip 10 consists in the fact that the groove 19 in C is further adapted to fit coaxially into a groove of the pair of grooves 16, 18 of another identical clip 10.
[0048] To this end, the outer diameter of the groove 19 in C is approximately equal to the inner diameter of one groove of the pair of omega-shaped grooves 16, 18. Thus, any clip 10 can be inserted into an identical clip 10 by fitting its groove 19 in C into one of the grooves of the pair of grooves 16, 18 of the other clip 10, positioning the groove 19 in C coaxially with the receiving groove of the pair of grooves 16, 18. Figure 2 shows the successive fitting of five clips 10 by fitting the groove 19 in C of the second, third, fourth, and fifth clips respectively into the groove 16 of the first, second, third, and fourth clips. Several clips 10 can thus be stored as a larger assembly, therefore more visible and consequently more difficult to lose.
[0049] The internal surface of the two grooves of the pair of omega grooves 16, 18 can be provided with undulations, so as to allow both an improvement in the flexibility of the clip 10 and its smooth attachment to the winding element or to the C-groove 19 of another clip 10, without damaging them.
[0050] Furthermore, the clip 10 can be made of a non-brittle material, such as a polymeric material, for example polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), or polyethylene terephthalate (PET), these examples not being limiting.
[0051] The polymer material of the clip 10 can be bio-based (some PEs can for example be derived from sugar cane) and / or biodegradable and / or recycled, which makes the clip 10 a sustainable object.
[0052] In a particular embodiment where the windable element is an electrical cable, the clip 10 can be made in two interoperable versions to cover all the most common cable cross-sections, such as R2V 3G, 4G, 5G 1.5 mm² and 2.5 mm² and their equivalents, i.e., cross-sections of 8 to 10 mm² for the former and 10 to 12 mm² for the latter. To facilitate user identification of the size of the clip 10, the clip 10 can include a differentiating element according to its size.
[0053] This differentiating element could, for example, be the color of clip 10. In the field of electrical cables, there are standardized colors known to electricians and corresponding to the cable cross-sections: for example, pink for 1.5 mm² and yellow for 2.5 mm². Therefore, the same color can be used for the clips 10 respectively adapted to these cross-sections.
[0054] As shown in [Fig.3], to this differentiation by colours, one can add, or provide as an alternative, a differentiation by means of an imprint 30 of specific shape, made in the material of the clip 10, such as for example a hollow circle at the base of the omega of the pair of grooves 16, 18, on at least one face of the clip 10, for clips adapted to cable sections of 1.5 mm2 (represented in the upper part of [Fig.3]) and two hollow circles in the same place for clips adapted to cable sections of 2.5 mm2 (represented in the lower part of [Fig.3]).
[0055] The circular shape is only one non-limiting example; any other shape of impression is equally suitable. Alternatively, instead of an impression, a boss, or even a printed, engraved, or embossed inscription, may be used.
[0056] Unlike differentiation by colors, this second mode of differentiation allows, for example, colorblind people to easily distinguish the clips 10, without external help.
[0057] As mentioned above, the clip 10 according to the invention is adapted to clip onto a support via its C-shaped groove 19 or either of the omega-shaped grooves 16, 18. This support can be any shape with dimensions suitable for receiving these grooves by clipping the clip 10 onto the support. Thus, by way of non-limiting example, the support can be a simple piece of electrical cable or pipe, or even a specific key ring.
[0058] Fig. 4 represents a particular support, which is a clip support 40 specially adapted for the attachment of at least one clip 10 as described above via its groove 19 in C.
[0059] As shown in [Fig.4], in the particular embodiment illustrated, the clip support 40 has at least one fixing location on which the C-shaped groove 19 of a clip 10 can be clipped.
[0060] Thus, in this non-limiting embodiment, the clip support 40 comprises on a first face a cylindrical bar 42 which has a first plurality of fixing locations 420 for the groove 19 in C of a clip 10 (five locations 420 in the illustrated example) and, on a second face opposite to the first face, a plurality of cylindrical rods 44 whose axes are perpendicular to the axis of the bar 42, these rods 44 constituting a second plurality of fixing locations 440 for the groove 19 in C of a clip 10 (three locations 440 in the illustrated example).
[0061] In the particular embodiment illustrated, the clip support 40 further comprises a plate 46 equipped with fixing screws 48, adapted for fixing the clip support 40 to another element. In the non-limiting example illustrated, the plate 46 has an L-shaped cross-section, the fixing screw(s) 48 being housed in bores provided on one of the arms of the L, and the cylinders of the plurality of cylindrical rods 44 being fixed, along their entire length, to the other arm of the L.
[0062] The other element on which the clip support 40 is suitable to be fixed can be, for example, a reel support.
[0063] Figure 5 shows the clip holder 40 mounted on a Mobiway (registered trademark) MOB type reel holder 50, at a lateral location, either on the left or right side of the reel holder 50. The left view of Figure 5 shows the front face and the right view shows the rear face of the clip holder 40 and the reel holder 50.
[0064] Fig. 6 shows the clip support 40 mounted on the reel support 50, with three clips 10 clipped onto the bar 42 and three other clips 10 clipped onto the rods 44.
[0065] Figure 7 shows the clip holder 40 mounted on the reel holder 50, with a marker 70 clipped onto one of the grooves of the pair of omega-shaped grooves 16, 18 of three clips 10, the clips 10 themselves being clipped by their C-shaped groove onto the bar 42 of the clip holder 40. In this example, the assembly formed by the clip holder 40, the clips 10, and the marker 70 has a footprint smaller than the diameter of the reel flange 52, so that the reel's ability to roll with all this equipment is not hindered in any way.
