Skin microbiome-based methods for the assessment and treatment of acne

Abstract

Skin Microbiome-Based Methods for Acne Assessment and Treatment: Methods for identifying an individual with a predisposition to developing acne, assessing the severity of acne lesions, and providing personalized prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of acne are disclosed. The methods include: (a) obtaining a microbiome sample from an individual's skin; (b) determining the quantity of one or more bacteria in the microbiome sample, where the one or more bacteria are selected from Lawsonella, Cutibacterium, Staphylococcus, Corynebacterium, Streptococcus, Micrococcus, and Neisseriaceae; (c) comparing the quantity of one or more bacteria to a control; and (d) identifying a difference between the quantity of one or more bacteria in the microbiome sample and the control.
