Abstract
Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a balcony frame and to a building structure including a balcony frame. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION It is often desirable to provide a balcony on a building structure (e.g. for outdoor space on above-ground floors in residential apartment blocks or hotels). One way of attaching such a balcony is to provide first and second spaced apart arms on the building structure, and to then attach a frame of the balcony to the spaced apart arms. Other parts of the balcony (e.g. floor coverings, handrails etc.) can be attached to the balcony frame either before or after the frame is attached to the spaced apart arms of the building structure. In one example, a balcony frame rests on the spaced apart arms before being fixed to the spaced apart arms (e.g. via bolts, welding, or other fastening means). In such a system, the balcony frame is susceptible to movement (e.g. upwards, sideways and / or away from the building structure) before the balcony frame is fixed, which presents a safety hazard. Furthermore, in such a system the balcony frame may include mounting arrangements (e.g. bolt holes) which have to be aligned with corresponding mounting arrangements (e.g. bolt holes) on the spaced apart arms, and it can be difficult to facilitate correct alignment of these mounting arrangements before the balcony frame is fixed to the spaced apart arms. The present invention seeks to overcome, or at least mitigate, one or more problems of the prior art. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION According to a first aspect, there is provided a balcony frame for attachment to a building structure having first and second spaced apart arms projecting from the building structure, the balcony frame comprising: a proximal edge, a distal edge, and first and second lateral edges extending between the proximal and distal edges; first and second channels 11 12 24 extending from the proximal edge towards the distal edge, said first and second channels configured for receiving first and second spaced apart arms of a building structure therein, respectively; and a locking arrangement configured to retain first and / or second arms of a building structure in their respective channels. Such a locking arrangement prevents the balcony frame from accidentally sliding off the spaced apart arms before they fixed together by fasteners or the like. The locking arrangement comprises one or more catches each for engagement with a protrusion on a first or second arm of a building structure, wherein the locking mechanism is configured such that, in use, the one or more catches engage the respective protrusions when the balcony frame is urged away from the building structure. Such a catch and protrusion arrangement provides a simple locking mechanism. The balcony frame comprises: a central frame assembly having opposing first and second sides extending in a direction between the proximal and distal edges; a first lateral frame assembly arranged on the first side of the central frame assembly and spaced apart from the first side of the central frame; and a second lateral frame assembly arranged on the second side of the central frame assembly and spaced apart from the second side of the central frame; wherein the first and second sides are connected to the first and second lateral frame assemblies by first and second connecting arrangements, respectively, so as to form the first and second channels. Such first and second channels allow the balcony frame to be slid onto the first and second spaced apart arms of the building structure. Having such channels formed between different frame assemblies is a simple means of creating a structure for receiving the spaced apart arms. Furthermore, the channels act as longitudinal guides for the spaced apart arms along the entire elongate length of the channels, which facilitates accurate alignment of the balcony frame on the building structure. Each of the first and second connecting arrangements comprises first and second connecting members connected to the central frame and the respective lateral frame assembly to form a bridge therebetween. 11 12 24 The first and second connecting members define a surface for resting on top or below an arm of a building structure received in the respective channel. The facilitates coupling of the balcony frame to the building structure. In exemplary embodiments, the first and second connecting members are provided proximate to the proximal edge so as to define an opening of the respective channel. Such an arrangement of first and second connecting members (i.e. an upper and lower connecting member forming an opening) provides structural support and prevents flexing of the balcony frame. The first and / or second connecting members comprise a mounting arrangement for attaching the balcony frame to an arm of a building structure. The mounting arrangement comprises one or more apertures for receiving a fastener therethrough for attaching the balcony frame to an arm of a building structure. Such mounting arrangements provide a simple means for securing the balcony frame to spaced apart arms of a building structure. In exemplary embodiments, each of the first and second connecting arrangements further comprises a third connecting member connected to the central frame assembly and the respective lateral frame assembly to form a bridge therebetween, wherein the third connecting member is spaced apart from the first and second connecting members with respect to a longitudinal axis of the respective channel. Having a third connecting member spaced apart from the first and second connecting members allows the balcony frame to be supported on an arm received in the respective channel at two different points, which provides a more stable arrangement. In exemplary embodiments, wherein the first connecting members are configured to support the weight of the balcony frame, when mounted on spaced apart arms of a building structure. The first connecting members being configured to support the weight of the balcony frame removes the need for additional fastenings to support the weight of the balcony frame. 11 12 24 In exemplary embodiments, wherein the first and second sides of the central frame assembly comprise first and second beams, wherein the first lateral frame assembly comprises a third beam parallel to and spaced from the first beam and the second lateral frame assembly comprises a fourth beam parallel to and spaced from the second beam, and wherein the first channel is defined by the first and third beams and the second channel is defined by the second and fourth beams. Such parallel and spaced apart beams provide a simple means for defining the first and second channels. In exemplary embodiments, wherein each beam is a reinforced beam. In exemplary embodiments, wherein each beam is box shaped or is a flanged beam having a flange portion and a web portion; optionally, wherein each beam has a C-shaped, I-shaped or H-shaped cross-section; and / or optionally, wherein the first and second channels are defined by the web portions of the corresponding beams. Such flanged beams are a lightweight but strong beam structure, which can be easily connected to other beams, cross-members or bridge components to define the balcony frame. In exemplary embodiments, the balcony frame further comprises a distal cross-member which extends across each of the central and lateral frame assemblies to define a distal edge of the central and lateral frame assemblies. Such a distal cross-member provides support across the entire width of the balcony frame. In exemplary embodiments, the balcony frame comprises a first cross-member of the central frame assembly, a second cross-member of the first lateral frame assembly, and a third cross-member of the second lateral frame assembly, wherein the first, second and third cross members are substantially aligned to define the proximal edge of the balcony frame. Such first to third cross-members provide support across the width of the balcony frame. In exemplary embodiments, the balcony frame comprises a plurality of spaced apart joists extending between the distal and proximal edges of the balcony frame for supporting a flooring structure mounted on top of the balcony frame. 11 12 24 Such joists facilitate easy installation and support of a floor structure on top of the balcony frame. In exemplary embodiments, the locking arrangement is moveable between a first state, in which removal of first and / or second arms of a building structure from their respective channels is prevented, and a second state, in which removal of first and / or second arms of a building structure from their respective channels is permitted. In exemplary embodiments, the locking arrangement is configured to permit insertion of the first and / or second arms into their respective channel. The locking arrangement permitting insertion of the respective arm into the respective channel allows the balcony frame to easily slide onto the first and second arms (e.g. without having to actuate the locking mechanism to a "released state" beforehand). In exemplary embodiments, each catch and respective protrusion defines a linear ratchet arrangement. In exemplary embodiments, each channel defines a longitudinal axis and each of the one or more catches is pivotal in a range of positions between a first position approximately parallel to the respective longitudinal axis and a second position at an angle to the respective longitudinal axis, wherein each of the one or more catches is biased towards the second position; optionally, wherein each of the one or more catches is configured to pivot away from the building structure towards the first position as the respective arm is inserted to the respective channel. Such a linear ratchet arrangement provides a simple locking mechanism which permits movement in one direction (i.e. insertion of the respective arm into the respective channel) whilst restricting movement in the opposite direction (i.e. removal of the respective arm from the respective channel). In exemplary embodiments, each catch is attached to the first or second connecting arrangement of the balcony frame. In exemplary embodiments, each catch is attached to a first or second connecting member of the first or second connecting arrangement. 11 12 24 Attaching to such a connecting arrangement provides a simple means for locating the catch proximal the channel (i.e. close to the corresponding projection on the respective arm). In exemplary embodiments, said first or second connecting arrangement further comprises a mounting arrangement for attaching the balcony frame to an arm of a building structure, and wherein the catch and said mounting arrangement are both provided on a first or second connecting member of the first or second connecting arrangement. Having a mounting arrangement and the catch on the same connecting arrangement (e.g. on the same connecting member) allows an arm to be retained in the respective channel by the catch before being secured to the balcony frame via the mounting arrangement. Such a linear ratchet arrangement provides a simple locking mechanism which permits movement in one direction (i.e. insertion of the respective arm into the respective channel) 11 12 24 whilst restricting movement in the opposite direction (i.e. removal of the respective arm from the respective channel). In exemplary embodiments, each catch is attached to the first or second connecting arrangement of the balcony frame. In exemplary embodiments, each catch is attached to a first or second connecting member of the first or second connecting arrangement. Attaching to such a connecting arrangement provides a simple means for locating the catch proximal the channel (i.e. close to the corresponding projection on the respective arm). In exemplary embodiments, the balcony frame is a balcony frame according to the first aspect of the invention. In exemplary embodiments, each of the first and second connecting arrangements comprises first and second connecting members connected to the central frame and the respective lateral frame assembly to form a bridge therebetween. The first and second connecting members define a surface for resting on top or below an arm of a building structure received in the respective channel. The facilitates coupling of the balcony frame to the building structure. In exemplary embodiments, the first and second connecting members are provided proximate to the proximal edge so as to define an opening of the respective channel. 11 12 24 Such an arrangement of first and second connecting members (i.e. an upper and lower connecting member forming an opening) provides structural support and prevents flexing of the balcony frame. In exemplary embodiments, the first and / or second connecting members comprise a mounting arrangement for attaching the balcony frame to an arm of a building structure. In exemplary embodiments, the mounting arrangement comprises one or more apertures for receiving a fastener therethrough for attaching the balcony frame to an arm of a building structure. In exemplary embodiments, wherein the first and second sides of the central frame assembly comprise first and second beams, wherein the first lateral frame assembly comprises a third beam parallel to and spaced from the first beam and the second lateral frame assembly comprises a fourth beam parallel to and spaced from the second beam, and wherein the first channel is defined by the first and third beams and the second channel is defined by the second and fourth beams. 11 12 24 Such parallel and spaced apart beams provide a simple means for defining the first and second channels. Such joists facilitate easy installation and support of a floor structure on top of the balcony frame. According to a second aspect, there is provided a balcony system comprising: a building structure having first and second spaced apart arms projecting from the building structure; 11 12 24 and a balcony frame according to the first aspect attached to said first and second spaced apart arms. In exemplary embodiments, the locking arrangement is moveable between a first state, in which removal of the first and / or second arms from their respective channels is prevented, and a second state, in which removal of first and / or second arms from their respective channels is permitted. In exemplary embodiments, the locking arrangement comprises one or more catches on the balcony frame each for engagement with a respective protrusion on the first or second arm, or one or more catches on the first and / or second arms each for engagement with a respective protrusion on the balcony frame, wherein the locking mechanism is configured such that the one or more catches engage the respective protrusions when the balcony frame is urged away from the building structure. Such a catch and protrusion arrangement provides a simple locking arrangement. In exemplary embodiments, each catch and respective protrusion defines a linear ratchet arrangement. In exemplary embodiments, each channel defines a longitudinal axis and each of the one or more catches is pivotal in a range of positions between a first position approximately parallel to the respective longitudinal axis and a second position at an angle to the respective longitudinal axis, wherein each of the one or more catches is biased towards the second position. In exemplary embodiments, each of the one or more catches is configured to pivot away from the building structure towards the first position as the respective arm is inserted to the respective channel. Such a linear ratchet arrangement provides a simple locking mechanism which permits movement in one direction (i.e. insertion of the respective arm into the respective channel) 11 12 24 whilst restricting movement in the opposite direction (i.e. removal of the respective arm from the respective channel). In exemplary embodiments, each catch is attached to first or second connecting arrangements of the balcony frame. In exemplary embodiments, each catch is attached to a first or second connecting member of the first or second connecting arrangements. Attaching to such a connecting arrangement provides a simple means for locating the catch proximal the channel (i.e. close to the corresponding projection). BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS The invention will now be described, by way of example only, with reference to the following figures: Figure 1 is a plan view of a balcony frame according to an embodiment attached to spaced apart arms of a building structure; Figure 2A is a cross section along line A-A of Figure 1; Figure 2B is a cross section along line B-B of Figure 1; Figure 3 is a cross section along line C-C of Figure 1 before the balcony frame is coupled to the spaced apart arms of the building structure; Figure 4 is a cross section along line C-C of Figure 1 after the balcony frame is coupled to the spaced apart arms of the building structure; Figure 5 is an enlarged view of the latching mechanism of Figure 3; and Figure 6 is an enlarged view of the latching mechanism of Figure 4. 11 12 24 DETAILED DESCRIPTION Referring firstly to Figures 1 to 4, spaced apart arms of a building structure 100 are indicated at 102A, 102B and a balcony frame for attachment to the building structure 100 is indicated generally at 10. The balcony frame 10 has a proximal edge 12, a distal edge 14, and first and second lateral edges extending between the proximal and distal edges 12, 14. In the illustrated embodiment, the lateral edges are defined by first and second lateral beams 16A, 16B. The balcony frame 10 also has a central frame assembly 18, a first lateral frame assembly 20A and a second lateral frame assembly 20B. The first lateral frame assembly 20A is arranged on a first side of the central frame assembly 18 (defined by a first beam 24A of the central frame assembly 18) and is spaced apart from the first side of the central frame assembly 18. Similarly, the second lateral frame assembly 20B is arranged on a second side of the central frame assembly 18 (defined by a second beam 24B of the central frame assembly 18) and is spaced apart from the second side of the central frame assembly 18. As will be described in more detail below, the opposing first and second sides of the central frame assembly 18 are connected to the first and second lateral frame assemblies 20A, 20B by first and second connecting arrangements 27A, 27B, respectively, so as to form first and second channels 22A, 22B extending from the proximal edge 12 of the balcony frame 10 towards the distal edge 14 of the balcony frame. The first channel 22A is configured for receiving the first arm 102Aof the building structure and the second channel 22B is configured for receiving the second arm 102B of the building structure 100. Such first and second channels 22A, 22B allow the balcony frame 10 to be slid onto the first and second spaced apart arms 102A, 102B of the building structure 100 (e.g. as in the transition from Figure 3 to Figure 4). Having such channels 22A, 22B formed between different frame assemblies 18, 20A, 20B is a simple means of creating a structure for receiving the spaced apart arms 102A, 102B, in contrast to the apertures of GB2507365 which have to be cut into the crossbeams in a comparatively complex machining operation. Furthermore, such channels 22A, 22B also act as longitudinal guides for the spaced apart arms 102A, 102B along the entire elongate length of the channels 22A, 22B, which facilitates accurate alignment of the balcony frame 10 on the building structure 100. 11 12 24 In the illustrated embodiment, the first lateral frame assembly 20A has a third beam 26A parallel to and spaced from the first beam 24A. The first channel 22A is defined by the first and third beams 24A, 26A. Similarly, the second lateral frame assembly 20B has a fourth beam 26B parallel to and spaced apart from the second beam 24B. The second channel 22B is defined by the second and fourth beams 24B, 26B. In the illustrated embodiment, each beam 24A, 24B, 26A, 26B is a flanged beam having a flange portion and a web portion. In particular, each beam 24A, 24B, 26A, 26B has a C-shaped cross-section. The first and second channels 22A, 22B are defined by the web portions of the corresponding beams 24A, 24B, 26A, 26B. In alternative embodiments, the beams 24A, 24B, 26A, 26C are of different construction (e.g. other types of reinforced beams having T, H, I or square-shaped cross-section). The first connecting arrangement 27A includes a first connecting member 28A (i.e. an upper connecting member) and a second connecting member 31A (i.e. a lower connecting member). The first and second connecting members 28A, 31A of the first connecting arrangement 27A are each connected to the central frame 18 and the first lateral frame assembly 20A so as to form a bridge between the central frame assembly 18 and the first lateral frame assembly 20A. Similarly, the second connecting arrangement 27B includes a first connecting member 28B (i.e. an upper connecting member) and a second connecting member 31B (i.e. a lower connecting member). The first and second connecting members 28B, 31B of the second connecting arrangement 27B are each connected to the central frame 18 and the second lateral frame assembly 20B so as to form a bridge between the central frame assembly 18 and the second lateral frame assembly 20B. As best illustrated in Figures 1 and 2, the first and second connecting members 28A, 28B, 31A, 31B are provided proximate to the proximal edge so as to define an opening of the respective channel 22A, 22B. In other words, the spaced apart arms 102A, 102B pass through the opening formed by the respective connecting members 28A, 28B, 31A, 31B in order to be received in the respective channel 22A, 22B. In alternative embodiments, the second connecting members 31A, 31B are located elsewhere along the respective channels 22A, 22B (i.e. not proximate to the proximal edge). In alternative embodiments, additional lower connecting members are provided as well as the second connecting members 31A, 31B (e.g. a fourth connecting member below each third connecting member 30A, 30B described below). 11 12 24 In the illustrated embodiment, each of the first and second connecting arrangements 27A, 27B also includes a third connecting member 30A, 30B (i.e. a further upper connecting member) connected to the central frame assembly and the respective lateral frame assembly 20A, 20B so as to form a bridge therebetween. The third connecting members 30A, 30B are spaced apart from the first and second connecting members 28A, 28B, 31A, 31B with respect to a longitudinal axis of the respective channel 22A, 22B. In other words, the third connecting members 30A, 30B are spaced apart from the proximal edge 12. The third connecting members 30A, 30B provide a second contact point for an arm 102A, 102B received in the respective channel 22A, 22B, which increases stability of the balcony frame 10. In the illustrated embodiment, the first and third connecting members 28A, 28B, 30A, 30B are configured to support the weight of the balcony frame 10 when mounted on the arms 102A, 102B of the building structure 100. In other words, the first and third connecting members 28A, 28B, 30A, 30B rest on the arms 102A, 102B of the building structure 100. In alternative embodiments, additional fastenings (e.g. fastening between the beams 24A, 24B, 26A, 26B and the first and second arms 102A, 102B) and / or other connecting members are required to support the weight of the balcony frame 10. In the illustrated embodiment, the first and third connecting members 28A, 28B, 30A, 30B each have a mounting arrangement for attachment to a corresponding arm 102A, 102B of the building structure 100. In particular, each mounting arrangement comprises apertures 32 for receiving a fastener 33 therethrough for attaching the balcony frame 10 to the respective arm 102A, 102B of the building structure 100. For example, Figure 6 shows an first connecting member 28A fastened to first arm 102A via a bolt 33 received in an aperture 32 in the first connecting member 28A and a corresponding aperture (not shown) in the first arm 102A. A nut 35 is secured to an end of the bolt 33 to fasten the first connecting member 28A and the first arm 102A together. It will be understood that similar fastening arrangements are provided between the other first and third connecting members 28B, 30A, 30B and the respective first and second arms 102A, 102B. In the illustrated embodiment, the first to third connecting members 28A, 28B, 30A, 30B, 31A, 31B are formed of plate material (e.g. plate metal), which keeps the profile of the connecting members low and facilitates compactness of the balcony frame 10. In alternative embodiments, the first to third connecting members 28A, 28B, 30A, 30B, 31A, 31B are beams (e.g. a single beam may replace the first connecting members 28A, 28B near the proximal edge; a single beam may replace the second connecting members 31A, 11 12 24 31B near the proximal edge; and a single beam may replace the third connecting members 30A, 30B distal the proximal edge). The balcony frame 10 also includes a distal cross-member 34 which extends across each of the central and lateral frame assemblies to define a distal edge of the central and lateral frame assemblies 18, 20A, 20B (i.e. the distal edge 14 of the balcony frame 10). The distal cross-member 34 provides support across the entire width of the balcony frame 10. The balcony frame 10 also includes a first cross-member 36 of the central frame assembly 18, a second cross-member 38A of the first lateral frame assembly 20A, and a third crossmember 38B of the second lateral frame assembly 20B. The first to third cross-members 36, 38A, 38B are substantially aligned to define the proximal edge 12 of the balcony frame 10. In alternative embodiments, the first to third cross-members 36, 38A, 38B are parallel but not aligned with each other. The distal cross-member 34 is connected to the first cross-member 36 via the first and second beams 24A, 24B, to the second cross-member 38A via the first lateral beam 16A and third beam 26A, and to the third cross-member 38B via the second lateral beam 16B and fourth beam 26B. In the illustrated embodiment, the distal, first, second and third cross-members 34, 36, 38A, 38B are of similar construction to the first to fourth beams 24A, 24B, 26A, 26B (i.e. reinforced flanged beams with a C-shaped cross-section). In alternative embodiments, the cross-members 34, 36, 38A, 38B are of different construction (e.g. having T, H, I, or square-shaped cross-section). In the illustrated embodiment, the first and second connecting members 28A, 28B, 31A, 31B are aligned with the first to third cross-members 36, 38A, 38B. In alternative embodiments, first and second connecting members 28A, 28B, 31A, 31B are positioned elsewhere (e.g. parallel to but spaced from the first to third cross-members 36, 38A, 38B. The balcony frame 10 also includes a plurality of spaced apart joists 40 extending between the distal and proximal edges 12, 14 of the balcony frame 10 (in particular, on top of the balcony frame 10). Such joists 40 facilitate easy installation and support of a floor structure 43 on top of the balcony frame 10 (e.g. as best illustrated in Figures 2A to 4). As best illustrated in Figures 1, 5 and 6, the balcony frame 10 also includes locking arrangements 42A, 42B, each configured to retain the first or second arm 102A, 102B of 11 12 24 the building structure 100 in its respective channel 22A, 22B. Such locking arrangements 42A, 42B prevent the balcony frame 10 from accidentally sliding off the spaced apart arms 102A, 102B before they fixed together. In the illustrated embodiment, there are two locking arrangements 42A, 42B (one for each arm 102A, 102B). In alternative embodiments, there is only one locking arrangement (i.e. for just one arm 102A, 102B). In alternative embodiments, there are more than two locking arrangements (e.g. locking arrangement located at the positions of each of the first and third connecting members 28A, 28B, 30A, 30B). As will be described in more detail below, each locking arrangement 42A, 42B is moveable between a first state, in which removal of the respective arm 102A, 102B from its associated channel 22A, 22B is prevented, and a second state, in which removal of the respective arm 102A, 102B from its associated channel 22A, 22B is permitted. Each locking arrangement 42A, 42B is configured to permit insertion of the first or second arm 102A, 102B into the respective channel 22A, 22B (i.e. as the balcony frame 10 is moved in direction DI from the position of Figure 3 to the position of Figure 4). In alternative embodiments, the locking mechanisms 42A, 42B have to be actuated to a "released state" (e.g. the second state described above) before the first and second arms 102A, 102B can fully enter the channels 22A, 22B. Each locking arrangement 42A, 42B has a catch 44 for engagement with a protrusion 46 on the first or second arm 102A, 102B. In alternative embodiments, the locking arrangements each include a protrusion on the balcony frame for engagement with a catch on the first or second arms 102A, 102B. Each locking arrangement 42A, 42B is configured such that the catch 44 engages the protrusion 46 when the balcony frame 10 is urged away from the building structure 100 (e.g. in direction D2 shown in Figure 6). In other words, each catch 44 and corresponding protrusion 46 defines a linear ratchet arrangement. In particular, each channel 22A, 22B defines a longitudinal axis and the catches 44 are pivotal around pivots 48 in a range of positions between a first position approximately parallel to the respective longitudinal axis (e.g. as shown in Figure 6) and a second position at an angle to the respective longitudinal axis (e.g. as shown in Figure 5). The catches 44 are biased towards the second position and are configured to pivot away from the building structure 100 towards the first position as the respective arm 102A, 11 12 24 102B is inserted to the respective channel 22A, 22B. Such a linear ratchet arrangement provides a simple locking arrangement 42A, 42B which permits movement in one direction (i.e. insertion of the respective arm 102A, 102B into the respective channel 22A, 22B) whilst restricting movement in the opposite direction (i.e. removal of the respective arm 102A, 102B from the respective channel 22A, 22B in direction D2). In the illustrated embodiment, the catches 44 are biased towards the second position by gravity. In alternative embodiments, the catches 44 are each biased towards the second position by a resilient member (e.g. spring or the like). It will be understood that the catches 44 being biased towards the second position causes them to contact the respective arm 102A, 102B, which prevents the catches 44 from riding over the corresponding projections 46 accidentally. However, in situations where it is desirable to disengage the locking arrangement 42A, 42B by moving the second state described above (e.g. when removing the balcony frame 10 from a building structure 100), the catches 44 can be moved further away from the second position against the biasing force (e.g. by lifting the catches 44 from the position shown in Figure 6) so that the corresponding projections 46 can pass under the catches 44 as the balcony frame 10 is moved in direction D2. In the illustrated embodiment, the catches 44 are attached to the first connecting members 28A, 28B of the first and second connecting arrangements 27A, 27B. In alternative embodiments, the catches 44 are located: on the third connecting members 30A, 30B of the first and second connecting arrangements 27A, 27B; on the second connecting members 31A, 31B of the first and second connecting arrangements 27A, 27B; and / or on one or more of first to fourth beams 24A, 24B, 26A, 26B. In such embodiments, the catches 44 may be spring biased towards the second position. As best illustrated in Figures 3 and 4, the balcony frame 10 also has a lower covering 50 which obscures the arms 102A, 102B and balcony frame 10 when viewed from below (e.g. for aesthetic purposes). In alternative embodiments, the lower covering 50 is omitted. In some embodiments, the balcony frame 10 has one or more locking mechanisms 42A, 42B as described above, but is of different overall construction to the illustrated balcony frame 10 (e.g. it may be similar to the balcony frame of GB2507365 with the addition of locking arrangements 42A, 42B). CM Although the invention has been described in relation to one or more embodiments, it will be appreciated that various changes or modifications can be made without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims. For example, it will be understood that the balcony frame 10 described above is of modular construction. Therefore, the balcony frame 10 may have more frame assemblies to define more than two channels 22A, 22B for receiving more than two spaced apart arms 102A, 102B of the building structure 100 (e.g. there may be two or more central frame assemblies 18 spaced apart from each other, with additional channels defined between the first and second beams 24A, 24B of adjacent central frame assemblies). This provides flexibility in the size of the balcony frame 10 for different applications. 11 12 24
