Friction stir welding tools

Abstract

This tool is a friction stir welding tool that uses frictional heat generated by high-speed rotation to soften and stir metal materials to weld them together. It features two scroll grooves on the shoulder surface, and a conical probe with a screw-like spiral groove and a flat surface that divides the spiral groove in three places. The tip of the probe also has three notches, each of which is configured as an inclined surface relative to the end face of the probe when viewed from the side.
