Gearbox for Railway Vehicles with Oil Level Gauge

Abstract

This article is a gearbox that is mounted on a railway vehicle and houses a small gear to which power is transmitted from a main electric motor and a large gear into which a vehicle axle is press-fitted and that meshes with the small gear, and is provided with an oil level gauge that can observe the height of the oil level in order to manage the lubricating oil stored inside at an appropriate oil quantity. Referring to the "Reference Enlarged Front View Showing the Operating State", the oil level gauge is composed of a transparent plate that closes an opening formed in the front of the gearbox and a lid that covers the transparent plate, and the lid is fixed to the gearbox with bolts. The lid has an observation window in an elongated shape extending in a direction (vertical direction) perpendicular to the horizontal line. Notches are provided in a part of both side edges of the observation window, and the upper and lower ends of each notch correspond to graduations that serve as management indicators for the height of the oil level (two-dot chain line in the figure).
