Abstract

This nozzle is connected to a water hose or the like and is capable of generating annular flow cavitation in the fluid passing through its interior. In the attached drawing, a mixture of gas and liquid (gas-liquid two-phase flow) flows from the rear side to the front side of the nozzle. The liquid (liquid phase) flows as a thin film (liquid curtain) along the inner wall of the nozzle, while the gas (gas phase) flows at high speed through the center of the nozzle (this is called annular flow). This high-speed gas flow causes a localized pressure drop in a portion of the liquid curtain, generating cavitation (the cavitation that occurs in this annular flow of gas-liquid two-phase flow is called annular flow cavitation). Annular flow cavitation occurs in the nozzle's central hole, while the fluid flowing through the peripheral holes remains as a liquid curtain (see the cross-sectional view along the line BB and the perspective cross-sectional view along the line BB for the holes).
