[0003] [Patent Document 1] Patent No. 4901630 Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]

[0004] The performance of the fuel cladding tube can be evaluated by the test method described in Patent Document 1. However, nuclear reactors have various characteristics, and it is necessary to evaluate the performance of things other than the fuel cladding tube.

[0005] The present disclosure is devised to solve the above-mentioned problems, and aims to provide a test device and a test method capable of evaluating the performance of a fuel assembly. [Means for solving the problem]

[0006] The testing apparatus according to the present disclosure is a testing apparatus for testing the scattering state of fuel scattering from fuel rods of a fuel assembly, and includes a container enclosing a test body including mock fuel rods arranged to simulate the fuel assembly, and an injection device for injecting test particles equivalent to fuel pellets from the position of the fuel rod to be tested between the fuel assemblies of the test body, the injection device including a nozzle filled with and injecting the test particles, and an adjustment device for adjusting the injection conditions of the test particles injected from the nozzle.

[0010] Preferred embodiments of the present disclosure will be described in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings. Note that the present disclosure is not limited to these embodiments, and when there are multiple embodiments, the present disclosure also includes combinations of the embodiments.

[0011] FIG. 1 is a schematic diagram showing a schematic configuration of a test apparatus. FIG. 2 is a perspective view showing a test specimen and a nozzle. FIG. 3 is a perspective view showing a schematic configuration of a test tube of the test specimen. The test apparatus of this embodiment is a test apparatus that simulates a fuel rod when a loss of coolant accident (LOCA) occurs in a nuclear reactor. Specifically, it is an apparatus that tests and evaluates the scattering of fuel pellet pieces discharged from a fuel rod into the inside of a fuel assembly when a cladding tube of the fuel rod ruptures. The test apparatus 10 has a test specimen 12, a container 14, an injection device 16, an imaging device 17, a control device 18, and an evaluation device 19. In the test apparatus 10 of this embodiment, one axis on the horizontal plane is the X-axis, an axis on the horizontal plane and perpendicular to the X-axis is the Y-axis, and an axis perpendicular to the horizontal plane, that is, an axis perpendicular to the vertical direction is the Z-axis.

[0012] The test specimen 12 is a structure simulating a fuel assembly. The test specimen 12 has a frame 20 and a simulated fuel rod 24. In the test specimen 12, a plurality of simulated fuel rods 24 extending in the Z direction are arranged in parallel on a horizontal plane (XY plane). The plurality of simulated fuel rods 24 are arranged in parallel.

[0013] The frame 20 is a structure that supports the mock fuel rods 24. The frame 20 has a plate-shaped bottom surface that supports the vertical lower surface of the mock fuel rods 24. The bottom surface of the frame 20 corresponds to a plate-shaped member that supports the fuel assemblies 24.

[0014] The test specimen 12 has mock fuel rods 24 arranged in a frame 20 in a manner simulating the arrangement of the fuel rods of the fuel assembly to be evaluated. Here, the combustion assembly is formed in a square cross section and is composed of, for example, 17×17 cells. Then, control rods are inserted into 24 of the 17×17 cells, and in-core nuclear instrumentation is inserted into the cell at the center of the assembly. At this time, the cell into which the control rod is inserted is called a control rod guide tube, and the cell into which the in-core nuclear instrumentation is inserted is called an instrumentation guide tube. In addition, fuel rods are inserted into the other cells. When the fuel assembly is used in a boiling water reactor (BWR), the outside of the fuel assembly is covered by a channel box. On the other hand, when the fuel assembly is used in a pressurized water reactor (PWR), the outside of the fuel assembly is open. Then, an inter-assembly gap exists outside the channel box in the case of a BWR, and outside the fuel assembly in the case of a PWR.

[0015] In the test specimen 12 of this embodiment, the position where the test particle is injected from the injection device 16 becomes the test target position 22. A mock fuel rod 24 is not placed at the test target position 22. In the test specimen 12, a mock fuel rod 24 is placed at a position where a fuel rod is placed and an instrumentation guide tube is placed.

[0016] The test target position 22 is the position of the fuel rod assumed to explode during the test. The test device 10 injects a granular or fragmentary object (hereinafter referred to as a test particle) equivalent to fuel from the injector 16 at the test target position 22 of the test piece 12. The test particle is a material simulating a pellet (a granular or fragmentary object that scatters) that becomes a granular body inside the fuel rod when a LOCA occurs. For example, ceramic powder can be used as the granular test particle. For the test particle, a granular material with a long side of 2 mm can be used. The length of the long side is not limited to 2 mm. A granular material with a particle size of about 0.1 to 4 mm or more that is assumed in practical use can be used. For example, a granular pellet with an opening of 1 to 3 mm is used in the test.

[0017] The mock fuel rod 24 is an annular structure with an outer diameter corresponding to that of a fuel rod and an instrumentation guide tube. The mock fuel rod 24 is a structure for arranging the structure around the test target position 22 in the same manner as a fuel assembly. The mock fuel rod 24 may be a hollow tube or a solid cylinder as long as it is arranged in the space around the test target position 22 in the same manner as the fuel rods and instrumentation guide tubes of a fuel assembly.

[0018] The container 14 is disposed on the frame 20 of the test specimen 12, and is a cylinder that surrounds the side of the region in which the test tube 22 and the mock fuel rod 24 are disposed. The mock fuel rod 24 is disposed inside the cylinder of the container 14. The container 14 of this embodiment is formed of a transparent material, such as acrylic. By making the container 14 transparent, the test specimen 12 can be confirmed from the outside of the container 14. Note that the container 14 is preferably transparent because the above-mentioned effects can be obtained, but is not limited to being transparent. It is sufficient for the container 14 to be capable of suppressing the scattering of test particles outside the test specimen 12.

[0019] The injector 16 injects test particles from a test target position 22 of the test specimen 12. The injector 16 has a nozzle 30 and an adjustment device 32. The nozzle 30 is a movable linear pipe, and is inserted into the test specimen 12 during testing. Specifically, the nozzle 30 is arranged such that the tip of the pipe is at the test target position 22. In this embodiment, the nozzle 30 is arranged so as to extend in the X-axis direction. The nozzle 30 is filled with test particles during testing. The amount of test particles filled in the nozzle 30 is the amount assumed to be discharged to the outside from the fuel rod at the target position during testing.

[0020] The adjusting device 32 adjusts the power for ejecting the test particles from the nozzle 30, that is, the compressed gas supplied to the nozzle 30. As the compressed gas, compressed air or an inert gas, such as nitrogen gas, can be used. The type of gas is not limited. Specifically, the adjusting device 32 adjusts the amount, speed, timing, etc. of the compressed gas supplied to the nozzle 30. The adjusting device 32 has a pressure supply source 40, a supply pipe 44, an introduction valve 46, a pressure gauge 48, a safety valve 50, an adjustment valve 52, a storage pipe 54, and an outlet valve 56.

[0021] The pressure supply source 40 is a compressor or the like, and compresses gas to generate compressed gas. The pressure supply source 40 supplies the generated compressed gas to a supply pipe 44. The supply pipe 44 is a pipe that connects the pressure supply source 40 and a storage pipe 54. An introduction valve 46, a pressure gauge 48, a safety valve 50, and an adjustment valve 52 are connected to the supply pipe 44.

[0022] The introduction valve 46 is a valve that connects the pressure supply source 40 and the supply pipe 44. When the introduction valve 46 is in an open state, it supplies the compressed gas from the pressure supply source 40 to the supply pipe 44, and when the introduction valve 46 is in a closed state, it stops the supply of compressed gas from the pressure supply source 40 to the supply pipe 44.

[0023] The pressure gauge 48 measures the pressure in the supply pipe 44. The safety valve 50 releases the gas in the supply pipe 44 when the pressure in the supply pipe 44 reaches or exceeds a threshold value (a pressure higher than the pressure used in the test).

[0024] The regulating valve 52 is a valve that connects the supply pipe 44 and the storage pipe 54. When the regulating valve 52 is in an open state, it supplies the compressed gas from the supply pipe 44 to the storage pipe 54, and when the regulating valve 52 is in a closed state, it blocks the flow of gas between the supply pipe 44 and the storage pipe 54. The storage pipe 54 is a pipe in which the compressed gas to be supplied to the nozzle 30 is stored. The storage pipe 54 has one end connected to the regulating valve 52 and the other end connected to the outlet valve 56. The storage pipe 54 is a replaceable pipe, and the amount of compressed gas to be stored can be changed by changing the length depending on the test conditions. A mechanism for adjusting the volume of the supply pipe (supply section) is the volume adjustment mechanism. Note that the volume adjustment mechanism may change the volume of the storage pipe 54 by changing the diameter, or may change the volume by providing a region for storing compressed gas in a part of the storage pipe 54.

[0025] The outlet valve 56 is a valve disposed at the connection between the storage tube 54 and the nozzle 30. When the outlet valve 56 is in an open state, the compressed gas in the storage tube 54 is supplied to the nozzle 30, and when the outlet valve 56 is in a closed state, the compressed gas in the storage tube 54 is stored in the storage tube 54 and is not supplied to the nozzle 30.

[0026] Injector 16 closes outlet valve 56, opens introduction valve 46 and regulating valve 52, and supplies compressed gas from pressure supply source 40, thereby supplying compressed gas to storage tube 54. In addition, injector 16, storage tube 54 and supply tube 44 are at the same pressure, so that the pressure in storage tube 54 can be detected by measuring the pressure with pressure gauge 44. After storage tube 54 reaches a predetermined pressure, injector 16 closes introduction valve 46 and regulating valve 52, thereby storing compressed gas that satisfies the conditions in storage tube 54. Injector 15 supplies compressed gas from storage tube 54 to nozzle 30 by opening outlet valve 56 during testing.

[0027] The adjustment device 32 includes a mechanism capable of adjusting the position of the nozzle 30. As described above, the nozzle 30 has a structure extending on the same horizontal plane (XY plane). The adjustment device 32 includes a mechanism for adjusting the position of the nozzle 30 in the direction of the arrow 60, which is the Z-axis direction. The adjustment device 32 includes a mechanism for adjusting the position of the nozzle 30 in the direction of the arrow 62, which is the X-axis direction. The adjustment device 32 also includes a mechanism for adjusting the direction of the arrow 64, which is the rotation direction around the Z-axis, in a direction parallel to the XY plane. The adjustment device 32 can adjust the position of the nozzle 30 on a plane parallel to the horizontal plane, that is, the position at which the test particles are sprayed, by adjusting the direction of the arrow 62 and the position and orientation of the rotation direction of the arrow 64. The adjustment device 32 may include a mechanism for moving the nozzle 30 in the Y-axis direction. The adjustment device 32 can adjust the direction of the arrow 60 of the nozzle 30, that is, the height, and therefore can adjust the height at which the test particles are sprayed.

[0028] The imaging device 17 photographs the test specimen 12 from outside the container 14, and photographs the test particles sprayed from the spray device 16. The imaging device 17 may obtain a video of the state in which the test particles are sprayed from the spray device 16. It is noted that the test device 10 does not necessarily have to include the imaging device 17.

[0029] The control device 18 controls the operation of the injection device 16. The control device 18 includes at least one of a calculation circuit such as a CPU (Central Processing Unit), a memory for storing various information such as calculation contents and programs, for example, a main storage device such as a RAM (Random Access Memory) and a ROM (Read Only Memory), and an external storage device such as a HDD (Hard Disk Drive). The control device 18 controls the injection device 16 based on preset conditions, and controls the injection of the test particles. Note that, in the test device 10 of this embodiment, the control device 18 controls the injection device 16, but the injection device 16 may be controlled by an operator's operation.

[0030] The evaluation device 19 evaluates the test results of the test specimen 12. The evaluation device 19 includes a calculation processing device that receives and analyzes the test results, a photographing device that captures images of the test results, a measuring device that measures the test results, etc. The evaluation device 19 acquires information on the test results of the test specimen 12, and outputs evaluation results and test results that evaluate the acquired test results. Examples of output devices include a display device, a printer, etc.

[0031] (Test Method) Fig. 4 is a flow chart for explaining the process flow of the test device according to this embodiment. Fig. 5 is a schematic diagram showing an example of the evaluation result of the evaluation device. The process shown in Fig. 4 is performed by the work of an operator, the control of the control device 18, and the process by the evaluation device 19.

[0032] First, an operator fills the nozzle 30 with test particles (step S12). The operator fills the nozzle 30 with the test particles in an amount that satisfies the test conditions.

[0033] Next, the worker places the nozzle 30 on the test specimen 12 (step S14). The worker moves the injection device 16 and the test specimen 12 relative to each other to place the tip of the nozzle 30 at the test target position 22 of the test specimen 12. The test device 10 may move either the nozzle 30 or the test specimen 12. The worker also adjusts the position, direction, and height of the nozzle 30 based on the test conditions. The worker also selects a storage tube 54 based on the test conditions.

[0034] Next, the injection device 16 of the test device 10 is filled with pressure (step S16). The operator or the control device 18 closes the outlet valve 56 and opens the introduction valve 46 and the adjustment valve 52, and then drives the pressure supply source 40 to supply compressed gas to the storage tube 54, thereby increasing the pressure in the storage tube 54 to the pressure of the test conditions. Thereafter, the adjustment valve 52 is closed, and the storage tube 54 is filled with a pressure that satisfies the test conditions.

[0035] Next, the test particles are sprayed from the nozzle 30 (step S18). The operator or the control device 18 opens the outlet valve 56, supplies the compressed gas from the storage tube 54 to the nozzle 30, and sprays the test particles from the tip of the nozzle 30.

[0036] Next, the nozzle 30 is removed from the test specimen 12 (step S20). The operator removes the nozzle 30 from the test specimen 12 while holding the position of the test particles that were sprayed onto and scattered at the test specimen 12. Note that, if the test specimen can be evaluated while maintaining the nozzle 30, it is not necessary to remove the nozzle 30.

[0037] Next, the test device 10 evaluates the test specimen (step S22). For example, the scattering state of the test particles inside the test specimen 12 is measured. The measurement can be performed, for example, by analyzing an image taken by a photographing device. The test device 10 measures the simulated fuel rod 24 to which the test particles are attached and the adhesion state of the test particles to the surface of the bottom plate of the frame 20. The test device 10 outputs the evaluation result in the evaluation device 19. The evaluation device 19 displays, for example, an image 110 shown in FIG. 5. The image 110 shows the test target position 22, that is, the arrangement position 122 which is the position of the fuel rod assumed to be damaged, in the area where the cells of the test specimen (test target position 22, simulated fuel rod 24) are arranged. The image 110 also displays an arrow display 124 in the direction in which the fuel was injected from the test target position 22, that is, the direction in which the fuel rod is set to rupture in the test. The image 110 also displays the position where the test particle discharged from the test target position 22 was detected with a mark 140. The image obtained may be displayed as the evaluation result.

[0038] The test device 10 can suitably test the scattering state of nuclear material inside a fuel rod when a LOCA occurs by disposing the nozzle 30 at the test target position 22 of the test specimen 12 and injecting test particles from the nozzle 30 using the injection device 16. In other words, by injecting test particles into the gas using the nozzle, it is possible to evaluate the scattering of material inside the fuel rod under conditions when a LOCA occurs and coolant is lost. In addition, by injecting the test particles from the nozzle 30, the test device 10 can perform testing without heating the fuel rod of the test specimen 12. In addition, the test device 10 can easily adjust the conditions for injecting the test particles from the injection device 16, so that testing can be performed under various conditions.
