Description

[Technical field]

[0001] The present application relates to a water-soluble dispersant composition, more particularly to a water-soluble dispersant composition comprising at least one monovalent (M + ) cation and at least one divalent (M ++ ) The present invention relates to laundry or detergent compositions containing cationically functionalized low to medium molecular weight carboxylated polysaccharides.

[0002] In recent years, the finishing of textile materials to produce wash-abrasion nonwovens and durable press nonwovens has attracted much attention in the textile industry. Textiles, fabrics and garments such as dress slacks, suits, curtains, tablecloths and industrial fabrics have a high tendency to retain and absorb soil from dirty wash water during washing, causing the problem of fabric greying. Hereinafter, the problem of soil being released from the soiled wash fabric and soil being picked up by the wash fabric from the soiled wash water during washing is referred to as soil redeposition.

[0003] A liquid or powder laundry detergent should not only remove soil from clothing, but also prevent the soil removed and suspended in the wash liquor from redepositing on the fabric surface when the wash water is removed.

[0004] Carboxylated polysaccharides, such as carboxymethylcellulose, carboxymethylinulin, carboxymethylguar or carboxymethylstarch and cellulose ethers, have long been studied as anti-resoiling ingredients in laundry detergents.Carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) is often found in commercial detergent compositions for both household and industrial use, and its anti-resoiling effect is well established. However, the above effect is often only obtained on cotton fabrics, and it is well recognized that carboxymethylcellulose has little or no anti-resoiling effect when the washing material is synthetic fabric, and is insufficient to prevent synthetic fabrics from resoiling during the washing cycle.

[0005] US Patent 3,959,165A discloses a heavy duty synthetic organic detergent composition comprising an anti-resoiling agent selected from the group consisting of sodium carboxymethylcellulose, polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinylpyrrolidone, hydroxypropylmethylcellulose and hydroxyethylcellulose.

[0006] US Patent 3,629,121A describes a detergent composition with reduced resoiling effect comprising a ternary mixture of Na carboxymethylcellulose (Na-CMC), a linear polycarboxylate and a 1-3C alkylcellulose containing no other substituents and having a degree of substitution (DS) of at least 0.5 and a degree of polymerization (PD) of 300 or less.

[0007] PCT Application 202006554A1 discloses a charged polymer complex microemulsion comprising: (a) a substantially water-immiscible oil phase; (b) an aqueous phase; (c) a surfactant selected from the group of calcium carboxymethylcellulose, hydroxypropylcellulose, hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, sodium carboxymethylcellulose, methylcellulose; and (d) a charged polymer complex used for preventing recontamination.

[0008] JP2311600A discloses a tablet detergent composition having good water solubility, which contains a granular anionic surfactant and, as a disintegrant, free (or acid type) carboxymethylcellulose, calcium carboxymethylcellulose, magnesium carboxymethylcellulose, and aluminum carboxymethylcellulose powder.

[0009] US Patent 7,781,387 B2 discloses a dry automatic dishwashing detergent with a spot reduction system comprising about 0.1% to about 2% of a composition of (i) sodium polyacrylate having a molecular weight of about 1,000 to 10,000, and (ii) sodium carboxymethyl inulin having a degree of substitution of about 2.5, with the ratio of sodium polyacrylate to sodium carboxymethyl inulin being about 2.5:1 to about 3:1.

[0010] US Publication No. 20110143986A1 discloses a detergent composition comprising an organic builder selected from MGDA, GLDA, IDS carboxymethyl inulin, salts thereof, and mixtures thereof.

[0011] There is a need to provide a dispersant and laundry or detergent composition that is effective in minimizing or preventing recontamination from wash water onto laundered fabrics. Preventing recontamination during laundering provides the combined benefit of reducing the gradual graying of fabrics, which leads to the apparent aged appearance of the fabric, and maintaining the brightness, lightness, and overall freshness of the fabric. It is desirable to have an effective recontamination inhibitor that can prevent the accumulation of various types of soils, including but not limited to granular soil, sebum, grease, oil, or mixtures thereof, and that works effectively on various fabric types, including natural (cotton), synthetic, or blends thereof.

[0012] The present invention is applicable to water-soluble dispersant compositions, more specifically to laundry or detergent compositions containing low to medium molecular weight carboxymethylcellulose functionalized with at least one monovalent cation and at least one divalent cation, which can effectively prevent or reduce the effect of resoiling of fabrics being washed during washing, thereby preventing fabric graying through repeated washing of the fabrics. The commonly accepted mode of action of anti-resoiling agents is to act as dispersants that keep soils dispersed in the wash liquor, thereby preventing resoiling of fabrics during washing. [0105] Example 7: Preparation of prototype laundry or detergent compositions

[0106] A 25% active surfactant in detergent formulation containing a 2:1 ratio of anionic and nonionic surfactants commonly used in detergent chassis was prepared by mixing the ingredients listed in Table 1. After thoroughly mixing all ingredients in Table 2 to obtain a clear solution, the pH of this prototype detergent was adjusted to 8.85 by dropwise addition of aminomethylpropanol (AMP Ultra PC 2000, Angus Chemical Company). This detergent was used in the following laundry applications: [Table 2]

[0107] Example 8: Washing method and anti-resoiling performance measurement

[0108] Benchmark sodium CMCs and individual divalent cation modified Na / M used as anti-soil redeposition (ASR) agents ++ A 2% (w / w) solution of carboxymethylcellulose was prepared by dissolving 1 g of each Na / carboxymethylcellulose in deionized water to make 50 g of solution.

[0109] Lab-scale washes were performed in a Tergotometer apparatus (Testfabric Inc., USA) with six individual bins. Two pieces of clean washed cotton 400 fabric (3 in × 4 in, Scientific Services S / D. Inc) were used per bin as acceptor fabrics. The same pair of cotton acceptor fabrics was used per bin throughout the six wash-rinse cycles. Six pieces of cotton 400 fabric (3 in × 4 in, Scientific Services S / D. Inc) rubbed with clay were used per bin in each wash cycle as soil donors. Unlike the acceptor fabrics, six new pieces of donor cotton fabric rubbed with clay were added to each bin at the end of each wash cycle and discarded at the end of each subsequent rinse cycle. Six consecutive wash-rinse cycles were performed, with the first three wash cycles performed with detergent added to the wash liquor and the last three wash cycles performed without detergent added in the wash liquor. Benchmark ASR agents or prototype Na / M used as anti-resoiling (ASR) agents were used. ++ A solution of CMC and hard water was present in the wash liquor for all six wash cycles.

[0110] The first three consecutive wash rinse cycles were performed with detergent present in the wash liquor. The 500 g wash liquor for each bin of the Tergotometer contained 2 g of the prototype detergent of Example 2, 25 g of benchmark 3000 ppm WHO hard water (calcium:magnesium = 3:1), and 25 g of benchmark sodium carboxymethylcellulose (benchmark) or Na / M ++The required amount of either pre-made 2% aqueous solution of carboxymethylcellulose was prepared by diluting with deionized water to obtain the required amount (40 ppm, 20 ppm, etc.) of anti-resoiling (ASR) agent in the wash solution with a final hardness of 150 ppm. For the control wash solution, only the prototype detergent and standard WHO hard water were diluted to 500 g with deionized water. Each wash cycle was followed by a subsequent rinse cycle. The rinse solution was prepared by diluting 25 g of standard 3000 ppm WHO hard water (calcium:magnesium = 3:1) with deionized water to obtain 500 g of rinse solution with a final hardness of 150 ppm for each bin of the tergotometer.

[0111] For the wash cycle, two acceptor fabrics and six fresh donor fabrics were loaded into each bin of the tergotometer as described above. The wash liquor prepared as described above was added to each designated bin of the tergotometer. The wash cycle was run for 38 min at 100 rpm agitation. o C for 15 minutes. After the wash cycle, the washed fabrics were removed, excess wash liquid was squeezed out of the fabrics, and the remaining wash liquid was discarded in the bins designated for the fabrics. The fabrics were placed back into the bins designated for the rinse cycle. Rinse solution prepared as above was filled into each bin. The rinse cycle was run for 38 o C for 5 min with stirring at 100 rpm.

[0112] After the first three consecutive wash rinse cycles were completed, the acceptor and donor fabrics were collected from the last wash rinse cycle, air dried overnight, and measured for graying due to soil buildup on the acceptor fabric and cleaning due to soil removal on the donor fabric.

[0113] Upon completion of the color measurements, the same acceptor fabric was subjected to three further successive wash rinse cycles without any detergent present in the wash liquor. The last three successive wash rinse cycles were performed without any detergent in the wash liquor. For each bin of the Tergotometer, 500g of wash liquor was mixed with 25g of standard 3000ppm WHO hard water (3:1 calcium:magnesium) and 100g of sodium carboxymethylcellulose (benchmark) or Na / M of the benchmark in Table 1. ++ The required amount of any pre-made 2% aqueous solution of carboxymethylcellulose was prepared by diluting with deionized water to obtain the required amount (40 ppm, 20 ppm, etc.) of anti-resoiling (ASR) agent in the wash solution with a final hardness of 150 ppm. For the control wash solution, only standard WHO hard water was diluted to 500 g with deionized water.

[0114] For each of the last three wash cycles, each bin of the Tergotometer was loaded with the same two acceptor fabrics obtained at the end of the first three wash and rinse cycles and six fresh donor fabrics as described above. The wash liquor prepared as described above was added to each designated bin of the Tergotometer. The wash cycle was run for 38 min with an agitation of 100 rpm. o C for 15 minutes. The rinse cycle was continued for 38 o C for 5 min with stirring at 100 rpm.

[0115] After the final three consecutive wash rinse cycles were completed, the acceptor and donor fabrics were removed from the final wash rinse cycle, air dried overnight, and measured for graying due to soil buildup on the acceptor fabric and cleaning due to soil removal on the donor fabric.

[0116] Reflection color measurements of washed acceptor and donor fabrics after the first three and the last three consecutive wash-rinse cycles were performed according to the CIE L * C * In h color space, 0 o / 8 light source / observer D65 / 10 o The setup included specular reflectance and was performed on a Hunter Labs ColorQuest XE instrument interfaced with a computer. * a * b * The average of the measurements (six for each fabric) was collected and 12 L for two pieces of clean cotton 400 acceptor that had not been subjected to the above washing process. * a * b * The average of the measurements (six for each fabric) was compared to determine the dL value for the prototype anti-resoiling (ASR) agent and amount used as a measure of graying and soil build-up on the white acceptor fabric. * was determined and is shown in Table 3 and in Figure 1(a) (after the first three washes with detergent) and Figure 1(b) (after the last three washes without detergent). * A more negative value of dL indicates a greater degree of graying of the acceptor white cotton 400 nonwoven due to soil deposition during the washing process. * The lower negative values of suggest a higher effectiveness of the prototype material to be used as an anti-resoiling (ASR) agent (Table 3) and Figure 1(b).
