AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing methods for manufacturing rectangular cylinders face challenges such as deformation at ends, inaccurate cross-sectional shapes, and material fracture due to tensile forces, particularly in materials with low rigidity like aluminum and aluminum alloys.

Method used

A method involving the use of plate-shaped plates inside a cylindrical body, combined with a receiving mold having a groove, to deform the cylindrical body into rectangular shape by press working, using movable plates to apply counter forces and reduce material deformation and fracture risk.

Benefits of technology

The method reduces deformation and material fracture, enhances shape accuracy, and eliminates the need for cutting curved parts, improving the quality of the rectangular cylinder's shape.

Abstract

The present invention provides a method for manufacturing a rectangular cylinder that suppresses deformation at both ends in the direction of the cylinder axis, improves the accuracy of the rectangular shape even in the cross-section perpendicular to the cylinder axis, and makes material fracture less likely. [Solution] A method for manufacturing a rectangular cylinder having a first side portion and a second side portion facing each other, comprising the steps of: placing a plate-shaped plate inside a cylindrical body to be molded; inserting the cylindrical body containing the plate inside into a groove of a receiving mold to deform the cylindrical body and form the first side portion, thereby producing a cylindrical intermediate body; placing a plate-shaped plate and a movable plate that can move relative to the plate-shaped plate inside the intermediate body; and inserting the intermediate body containing the plate and the movable plate inside into a groove of a receiving mold to deform the intermediate body and form the second side portion, wherein in the step of forming the second side portion, the movable plate is pressed in the direction opposite to the direction in which the plate is inserted into the groove.
