AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing soluble solid shampoo articles containing disodium cocoyl glutamate form deposits on hair when used with hard water, and there is a need for personal care products that are substantially free of sulfate-based surfactants.

Method used

Formulating soluble solid shampoo articles with a polymer structuring agent (1-60% by weight) and a surfactant system comprising sulfonate-containing anionic surfactants (5-90% by weight), with less than 5% glutamate anionic surfactants and no sulfate-based surfactants, to reduce deposits and improve user experience.

Benefits of technology

The formulation reduces deposits and improves user experience by enhancing cleanliness, reducing residue, and allowing a wider pH range during manufacturing, especially when used with hard water.

Abstract

Disclosed is a soluble solid cleansing article comprising: a) a polymer structuring agent in an amount of about 1% to about 60% by weight, on a dry basis; and b) a surfactant system comprising a sulfonate-containing anionic surfactant in an amount of about 5% to about 90% by weight, on a dry basis, wherein the article contains less than 5% glutamate anionic surfactant and is substantially free of sulfate-based surfactants. The soluble solid article of this disclosure can achieve a reduction in precipitates, in particular when such a soluble solid shampoo article is used with hard water.
