Abstract
Description
[Technical field]
[0001] The present invention relates to a lubricating oil composition. [Background technology]
[0002] It has been known for some time that lubricating oils used in internal combustion engines such as gasoline engines and diesel engines have the problem of soot generation as the lubricating oil deteriorates. In order to disperse soot in the oil, dispersants are sometimes added.
[0003] In addition, viscosity index improvers are sometimes blended into lubricating oil compositions for the purpose of improving the viscosity index, and dispersant-type viscosity index improvers that are imparted with dispersant properties using comonomers having polar groups are also known. Known examples of such dispersant-type viscosity index improvers include those having nitrogen atoms in the molecule. For example, Patent Document 1 discloses a reaction product of an olefin copolymer, an acylating agent, and a polyamine, and Patent Document 2 discloses a dispersant-type polyalkyl(meth)acrylate obtained by copolymerizing an N-dispersant monomer. [0004] [Patent Document 1] JP 2019-77864 A [Patent Document 2] Special Publication No. 2016-534213 Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]
[0005] However, as a result of investigations conducted by the present inventors, it was found that when lubricating oil containing soot is used, the wear resistance is not necessarily good. The present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and an object of the present invention is to provide a lubricating oil composition which has excellent wear resistance even when soot is mixed in. [Means for solving the problem]
[0006] As a result of extensive investigations, the present inventors have found that the above problems can be solved by a lubricating oil composition containing a specific dispersant-type viscosity index improver, and have completed the present invention.
[0007] That is, the present invention provides the following [1]. [1] A lubricating oil composition comprising a base oil (A) and a dispersant type viscosity index improver (B), wherein the dispersant type viscosity index improver (B) has a nitrogen atom content of 0.50 to 1.50 mass% based on the solid content and a weight average molecular weight (Mw) of 100,000 or more, and the content of the dispersant type viscosity index improver (B) in terms of solid content based on the total amount of the composition is more than 0.05 mass% and less than 5.0 mass%. [2] A method for producing a lubricating oil composition according to [1], comprising the step of mixing the base oil (A) and the dispersant-type viscosity index improver (B). [3] A diesel engine comprising the lubricating oil composition according to [1]. [4] A method for lubricating an engine, comprising using the lubricating oil composition according to [1]. Effect of the Invention
[0008] According to the present invention, it is possible to provide a lubricating oil composition that has excellent wear resistance even when soot is present. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
[0009] The upper and lower limit values of the numerical ranges described in this specification can be combined in any way. For example, when "A to B" and "C to D" are described as numerical ranges, the numerical ranges "A to D" and "C to B" are also included in the scope of the present invention. In addition, unless otherwise specified, a numerical range of "lower limit value to upper limit value" described in this specification means not less than the lower limit value and not more than the upper limit value. In this specification, the numerical values in the examples are numerical values that can be used as upper or lower limits. In this specification, for example, "(meth)acrylate" is used as a term indicating both "acrylate" and "methacrylate", and the same applies to other similar terms and similar labels.
[0010] [Lubricating oil composition] The lubricating oil composition of this embodiment is a lubricating oil composition containing a base oil (A) and a dispersant type viscosity index improver (B), wherein the nitrogen atom content of the dispersant type viscosity index improver (B) is 0.50 to 1.50 mass%, the weight average molecular weight (Mw) is 100,000 or more, and the content of the dispersant type viscosity index improver (B) in terms of solids content based on the total amount of the composition is more than 0.05 mass% and less than 5.0 mass%.
[0011] As a result of intensive research by the inventors to solve the above-mentioned problems, it was found that soot dispersed by a dispersant wears away the lubricating coating formed on the surface of a metal component, thereby deteriorating the wear resistance. Furthermore, the inventors discovered that even when a dispersant-type viscosity index improver is used, wear resistance does not necessarily improve depending on the type of the agent, and that by blending a predetermined amount of a dispersant-type viscosity index improver having a specific nitrogen atom content and weight-average molecular weight, wear resistance between metal components in an environment where soot is present can be improved, which led to the completion of the present invention.
[0012] Each component contained in the lubricating oil composition of this embodiment will be described below.
[0013] <Base oil (A)> The lubricating oil composition of the present embodiment contains a base oil (A). As the base oil (A), one or more types selected from mineral oils and synthetic oils conventionally used as base oils for lubricating oils can be used without any particular limitation.
[0014] Examples of the mineral oil include atmospheric residual oil obtained by atmospheric distillation of crude oil such as paraffin-based crude oil, intermediate-based crude oil, naphthene-based crude oil, etc.; lubricating oil fraction obtained by vacuum distillation of the atmospheric residual oil; and mineral oil obtained by subjecting the lubricating oil fraction to one or more refining treatments such as solvent deasphalting, solvent extraction, hydrofinishing, hydrocracking, advanced hydrocracking, solvent dewaxing, catalytic dewaxing, and hydroisomerization dewaxing.
[0015] Examples of the synthetic oils include poly-α-olefins such as α-olefin homopolymers and α-olefin copolymers (for example, α-olefin copolymers having 8 to 14 carbon atoms, such as ethylene-α-olefin copolymers); isoparaffins; various esters such as polyol esters and dibasic acid esters; various ethers such as polyphenyl ether; polyalkylene glycols; alkylbenzenes; alkylnaphthalenes; and GTL base oils obtained by isomerizing wax produced from natural gas by the Fischer-Tropsch process or the like (GTL wax, Gas To Liquids WAX).
[0016] The base oil (A) used in this embodiment is preferably a base oil classified as Group II or III of the base oil category of API (American Petroleum Institute), more preferably a base oil classified as Group III.
[0017] As the base oil (A), one type selected from mineral oils may be used alone or two or more types may be used in combination. Also, one type selected from synthetic oils may be used alone or two or more types may be used in combination. Furthermore, one or more types of mineral oils may be used in combination with one or more types of synthetic oils.
[0018] The kinematic viscosity and viscosity index of the base oil (A) are preferably in the following ranges, with the upper limit being from the viewpoint of achieving good fuel economy, and the lower limit being from the viewpoint of reducing loss of the lubricating oil composition due to evaporation and ensuring oil film retention. The base oil (A) has a kinematic viscosity at 100°C of 2.0mm 2 / s or more is preferable, and 20.0 mm 2 / s or less is preferable, and 10.0 mm2 / s or less is preferable, and 8.0 mm 2 / s or less is more preferable, and 7.0 mm 2 The upper and lower limits of these numerical ranges can be arbitrarily combined. Specifically, 2.0 mm 2 / s~20.0mm 2 / s is preferred, 2.0 mm 2 / s~10.0mm 2 / s is more preferable, 2.0 mm 2 / s~8.0mm 2 / s is more preferable, and 2.0 mm 2 / s~7.0mm 2 / s is even more preferred. The viscosity index of the base oil (A) is preferably 80 or more, more preferably 90 or more, even more preferably 100 or more, even more preferably 105 or more, and even more preferably 120 or more. The 40° C. kinematic viscosity, the 100° C. kinematic viscosity, and the viscosity index can be measured or calculated in accordance with JIS K 2283:2000. When the base oil (A) is a mixed base oil containing two or more kinds of base oils, the kinematic viscosity and viscosity index of the mixed base oil preferably fall within the above ranges.
[0019] In the lubricating oil composition of the present embodiment, the content of the base oil (A) is not particularly limited, but from the viewpoint of making it easier to exhibit the effects of the present invention, it is preferably 60 mass% to 99 mass%, more preferably 70 mass% to 95 mass%, and even more preferably 80 mass% to 93 mass%, based on the total amount (100 mass%) of the lubricating oil composition.
[0020] <Dispersant type viscosity index improver (B)> The dispersant type viscosity index improver (B) used in the lubricating oil composition of this embodiment must have a nitrogen atom content of 0.50 to 1.50 mass% based on the solid content of the dispersant type viscosity index improver (B). If the nitrogen atom content of the dispersant type viscosity index improver (B) is less than 0.50 mass% or exceeds 1.50 mass%, the wear resistance improving effect is not achieved. The nitrogen atom content of the dispersant type viscosity index improver (B) is preferably 0.55 mass% or more, more preferably 0.60 mass% or more, even more preferably 0.65 mass% or more, and is preferably 1.45 mass% or less, more preferably 1.40 mass% or less, even more preferably 1.30 mass% or less. The upper and lower limits of these numerical ranges can be arbitrarily combined, and specifically, it is preferably 0.55 to 1.45 mass%, more preferably 0.60 to 1.40 mass%, even more preferably 0.65 to 1.30 mass%.
[0021] In addition, the dispersion type viscosity index improver (B) must have a weight average molecular weight (Mw) of 100,000 or more, and if the weight average molecular weight (Mw) of the dispersion type viscosity index improver (B) is less than 100,000, soot will penetrate into the lubricated surface and wear away the coating on the lubricated surface, so the wear resistance improving effect of this embodiment will not be achieved. In addition, the weight average molecular weight (Mw) of the dispersion type viscosity index improver (B) is preferably 400,000 or less, more preferably 300,000 or less, and even more preferably 250,000 or less from the viewpoint of improving wear resistance. Furthermore, from the viewpoint of improving the wear resistance of the lubricated surface, the molecular weight distribution (Mw / Mn) of the dispersant type viscosity index improver (B) is preferably 3.0 or less, more preferably 2.8 or less, and even more preferably 2.6 or less. In this specification, the weight average molecular weight (Mw) and number average molecular weight (Mn) of each component are values calculated as standard polystyrene measured by gel permeation chromatography (GPC).
[0022] As the dispersant-type viscosity index improver (B), nitrogen-containing poly(meth)acrylates and nitrogen-containing polyolefins are preferably used.

[0024] (Nitrogen-containing polyolefin) Further, the nitrogen-containing polyolefin may also include a nitrogen-containing olefin copolymer which is a reaction product of an olefin copolymer, an acylating agent, and a polyamine, and a hydrogenated product thereof.
[0025] As the olefin copolymer, a copolymer of ethylene and an α-olefin having 3 to 28 carbon atoms is preferable, and an ethylene-propylene copolymer is particularly preferable. Specific examples of the olefin include ethylene, propylene, 1-butene, 2-butene, isobutene, 3-methyl-1-butene, 4-phenyl-1-butene, 1-pentene, 3-methyl-1-pentene, 4-methyl-1-pentene, 3,3-dimethyl-1-pentene, 3,4-dimethyl-1-pentene, 4,4-dimethyl-1-pentene, 1-hexene, 4-methyl-1-hexene, 5-methyl-1-hexene, 6-phenyl-1-hexene, 1-octene, 1-decene, 1-dodecene, 1-tetradecene, 1-pentadecene, 1-hexadecene, 1-heptadecene, 1-octadecene, 1-nonadecene, and 1-eicosene.
[0026] As the acylating agent, an unsaturated carboxylic acid or an anhydride thereof is preferably used. The unsaturated carboxylic acid includes acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, cinnamic acid, crotonic acid, maleic acid, fumaric acid, and itaconic acid. Moreover, examples of the anhydrides of the unsaturated carboxylic acids include maleic anhydride.
[0027] As the polyamine, an aromatic diamine or an aromatic triamine is preferably used, more specifically, an N-arylphenylenediamine is preferably used, and even more specifically, an N-phenylphenylenediamine is preferably used.
[0028] The content of the dispersant type viscosity index improver (B) used in the lubricating oil composition of this embodiment must be more than 0.05 mass% and less than 5.0 mass% in terms of solid content based on the total amount of the composition. If the content of the dispersant type viscosity index improver is less than 0.05 mass%, the effect of improving wear resistance is not achieved, and if it exceeds 5.0 mass%, the viscosity properties deteriorate. The content of the dispersant type viscosity index improver (B) is preferably 0.06% by mass or more, more preferably 0.08% by mass or more, and even more preferably 0.10% by mass or more, and is preferably 2.0% by mass or less, more preferably 1.0% by mass or less, and even more preferably 0.50% by mass or less, calculated as solid content based on the total amount of the composition. The upper and lower limits of these numerical ranges can be arbitrarily combined, and specifically, the range is preferably 0.06 to 2.0% by mass, more preferably 0.08 to 1.0% by mass, and even more preferably 0.10 to 0.50% by mass.
[0029] <Non-dispersant viscosity index improver (C)> The lubricating oil composition of this embodiment may further contain a nitrogen-free non-dispersant viscosity index improver (C). Examples of the non-dispersant viscosity index improver (C) include polymers such as non-dispersant poly(meth)acrylate, star polymer, olefin copolymer (e.g., ethylene-propylene copolymer, etc.), styrene copolymer (e.g., styrene-diene copolymer, styrene-isoprene copolymer, etc.), etc. Among these, non-dispersant poly(meth)acrylate is preferred. These may be used alone or in combination of two or more.
[0030] From the viewpoint of keeping the viscosity of the lubricating oil composition low, the non-dispersant viscosity index improver (C) preferably has a weight average molecular weight (Mw) of 200,000 or more, more preferably 250,000 or more, and even more preferably 280,000 or more. The amount of the non-dispersant viscosity index improver (C) is preferably 0.2 mass% or more, more preferably 0.5 mass% or more, even more preferably 1.0 mass% or more, and is preferably 10.0 mass% or less, more preferably 7.0 mass% or less, even more preferably 5.0 mass% or less, as a solid content content based on the total amount of the lubricating oil composition. The upper and lower limits of these numerical ranges can be arbitrarily combined, and specifically, it is preferably 0.2 to 10.0 mass%, more preferably 0.5 to 7.0 mass%, even more preferably 1.0 to 5.0 mass%.
[0031] In the lubricating oil composition of this embodiment, the ratio of the content of the non-dispersant viscosity index improver (C) to the content of the dispersant viscosity index improver (B) [(C) / (B)] is preferably 0.50 or more, more preferably 1.5 or more, even more preferably 3.0 or more, and is preferably 30.0 or less, more preferably 20.0 or less, and even more preferably 15.0 or less, in terms of the mass ratio of the solid content. The upper and lower limits of these numerical ranges can be arbitrarily combined, and specifically, are preferably 0.50 to 30.0, more preferably 1.5 to 20.0, and even more preferably 3.0 to 15.0. In particular, when a dispersant type viscosity index improver (B) having a weight average molecular weight (Mw) of 100,000 to 250,000 and a non-dispersant type viscosity index improver (C) having a weight average molecular weight (Mw) of 280,000 or more are contained in such a ratio of the content of the non-dispersant type viscosity index improver (C) to the content of the dispersant type viscosity index improver (B) [(C) / (B)]] that is a mass ratio of the solid contents of 3.0 to 15.0, this is particularly preferred because the dispersant type viscosity index improver (B) having a moderate molecular weight exhibits excellent wear resistance, while the non-dispersant type viscosity index improver (C) having a relatively large molecular weight realizes a low viscosity and a high viscosity index.
[0032] <Molybdenum-based friction modifier (D)> The lubricating oil composition of this embodiment may further contain a molybdenum-based friction modifier (D). By containing the molybdenum-based friction modifier (D) in the lubricating oil composition, the friction reducing effect can be further improved. In particular, the friction reducing effect can be effectively exerted in an environment where the temperature of the lubricating oil composition is high.
[0033] As the molybdenum-based friction modifier (D), any compound having a molybdenum atom can be used, and examples thereof include molybdenum dithiocarbamate (MoDTC), molybdenum dithiophosphate (MoDTP), amine salts of molybdic acid, etc. Among these, from the viewpoint of lowering the metal-metal friction coefficient and obtaining excellent fuel economy, molybdenum dithiocarbamate (MoDTC) and molybdenum dithiophosphate (MoDTP) are preferred, and molybdenum dithiocarbamate (MoDTC) is more preferred.
[0034] Examples of molybdenum dithiocarbamate (MoDTC) include dinuclear molybdenum dithiocarbamate containing two molybdenum atoms in one molecule, and trinuclear molybdenum dithiocarbamate containing three molybdenum atoms in one molecule.
[0035] Examples of the dinuclear molybdenum dithiocarbamate include a compound represented by the following general formula (D-1) and a compound represented by the following general formula (D-2).
[0036] [ka]
[0037] In the above general formulas (D-1) and (D-2), R 11 ~R 14 each independently represents a hydrocarbon group, and these may be the same or different. X 11 ~X 18Each independently represents an oxygen atom or a sulfur atom, and may be the same as or different from each other. However, X in formula (D-1) 11 ~X 18 At least two of the groups are sulfur atoms. R 11 ~R 14 The hydrocarbon group that can be selected as the aryl group preferably has 6 to 22 carbon atoms.

Examples of the cycloalkyl group include a cyclohexyl group, a dimethylcyclohexyl group, an ethylcyclohexyl group, a methylcyclohexylmethyl group, a cyclohexylethyl group, a propylcyclohexyl group, a butylcyclohexyl group, and a heptylcyclohexyl group. Examples of the aryl group include a phenyl group, a naphthyl group, an anthracenyl group, a biphenyl group, and a terphenyl group. Examples of the alkylaryl group include a tolyl group, a dimethylphenyl group, a butylphenyl group, a nonylphenyl group, and a dimethylnaphthyl group. Examples of the arylalkyl group include a methylbenzyl group, a phenylmethyl group, a phenylethyl group, and a diphenylmethyl group.
[0039] Among these, molybdenum dialkyldithiocarbamate represented by the following structural formula (D-3) (hereinafter also referred to as "compound (D3)") is preferable. [ka]
[0040] In the general formula (D-3), R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , and R 4 each independently represents a short-chain substituent group (α) which is an aliphatic hydrocarbon group having 4 to 12 carbon atoms, or a long-chain substituent group (β) which is an aliphatic hydrocarbon group having 13 to 22 carbon atoms. The molar ratio [(α) / (β)] of the short-chain substituent group (α) to the long-chain substituent group (β) in the entire molecule of the compound (D3) is 0.10 to 2.0. In addition, in the general formula (D-3), X 1 , X 2 , X 3 , and X 4 each independently represents an oxygen atom or a sulfur atom.
[0041] Examples of the aliphatic hydrocarbon group having 4 to 12 carbon atoms that can be selected as the short-chain substituent group (α) include an alkyl group having 4 to 12 carbon atoms and an alkenyl group having 4 to 12 carbon atoms. These may be linear or branched. The number of carbon atoms in the aliphatic hydrocarbon group that can be selected as the short-chain substituent group (α) is preferably 5 to 11, more preferably 6 to 10, and even more preferably 7 to 9, from the viewpoint of making it easier to exhibit the effects of the present invention.
[0042] Examples of the aliphatic hydrocarbon group having 13 to 22 carbon atoms that can be selected as the long-chain substituent group (β) include an alkyl group having 13 to 22 carbon atoms and an alkenyl group having 13 to 22 carbon atoms. These may be linear or branched. The number of carbon atoms in the aliphatic hydrocarbon group that can be selected as the long-chain substituent group (β) is preferably 13 to 20, more preferably 13 to 16, and even more preferably 13 to 14, from the viewpoint of making it easier to exhibit the effects of the present invention.
[0043] Here, the compound (D3) represented by the general formula (D-3) has a molar ratio [(α) / (β)] of the short-chain substituent group (α) to the long-chain substituent group (β) in the whole molecule of 0.10 to 2.0. When the molar ratio [(α) / (β)] is 0.10 or more, the effect of the compound (D3) on copper corrosion resistance is small, and the friction reducing effect is easily improved. In addition, when the molar ratio [(α) / (β)] is 2.0 or less, low-temperature storage stability is easily ensured. Here, from the viewpoint of minimizing the effect on copper corrosion resistance and of making it easier to improve the friction reducing effect, the molar ratio [(α) / (β)] is preferably 0.15 or more, and more preferably 0.20 or more. In order to more easily ensure low-temperature storage stability, the molar ratio [(α) / (β)] is preferably 1.2 or less, more preferably 1.0 or less, even more preferably 0.80 or less, and still more preferably 0.60 or less. The upper and lower limits of these numerical ranges can be arbitrarily combined. Specifically, the range is preferably 0.15 to 1.2, more preferably 0.20 to 1.0, even more preferably 0.20 to 0.80, and still more preferably 0.20 to 0.60.
[0044] Here, the short-chain substituent group (α) and the long-chain substituent group (β) may or may not coexist in the same molecule. That is, the average molar ratio [(α) / (β)] of the short-chain substituent group (α) to the long-chain substituent group (β) in all molecules of the compound (D3) represented by the general formula (D-3) may be within the range of 0.10 to 2.0. Therefore, the compound (D3) contains R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 may be mixed with a group of molecules (D3-1) in which all of R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 A group of molecules (D3-2) in which all are long-chain substituent groups (β) may be mixed, and R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 A molecular group (D3-3) in which a part of the substituents is a short-chain substituent group (α) and the rest is a long-chain substituent group (β) may be mixed.
[0045] An example of the trinuclear molybdenum dithiocarbamate is a compound represented by the following general formula (D-4). Mo3S k E m L n A p Q z (D-4)
[0046] In the general formula (D-4), k is an integer of 1 or more, m is an integer of 0 or more, and k+m is an integer of 4 to 10, and preferably an integer of 4 to 7. n is an integer of 1 to 4, and p is an integer of 0 or more. z is an integer of 0 to 5, including non-stoichiometric values. Each E is independently an oxygen atom or a selenium atom, which may, for example, replace sulfur in the core described below. Each L is independently an anionic ligand having an organic group containing a carbon atom, the total number of carbon atoms in the organic group in each ligand is 14 or more, and each ligand may be the same or different. Each A is independently an anion other than L. Each Q is independently an electron donating neutral compound that is present to fill a vacant coordination site on the trinuclear molybdenum compound.
[0047] In the lubricating oil composition of this embodiment, the content of the molybdenum-based friction modifier (D) is, from the viewpoint of reducing the metal-to-metal friction coefficient and achieving excellent fuel economy, preferably 0.02 mass % or more, more preferably 0.05 mass % or more, even more preferably 0.08 mass % or more, based on the total amount (100 mass %) of the lubricating oil composition, and is preferably 5.0 mass % or less, more preferably 3.0 mass % or less, even more preferably 1.5 mass % or less. The upper and lower limits of these numerical ranges can be arbitrarily combined. Specifically, the range is preferably 0.02 mass % to 5.0 mass %, more preferably 0.05 mass % to 3.0 mass %, and even more preferably 0.08 mass % to 1.5 mass %.
[0048] In the lubricating oil composition of this embodiment, the content of molybdenum atoms derived from the molybdenum-based friction modifier (D) is preferably 50 mass ppm or more, more preferably 80 mass ppm or more, and even more preferably 100 mass ppm or more, based on the total amount (100 mass%) of the lubricating oil composition, from the viewpoint of improving the friction reducing effect, and is also preferably 2,000 mass ppm or less, more preferably 1,200 mass ppm or less, and even more preferably 800 mass ppm or less. The upper and lower limits of these numerical ranges can be arbitrarily combined, and specifically, it is preferably 50 to 2,000 mass ppm, more preferably 80 to 1,200 mass ppm, and even more preferably 100 to 800 mass ppm.
[0049] <Dispersant> The lubricating oil composition of this embodiment may further contain a dispersant. As the dispersant, one or more types selected from non-boron-modified succinimides and boron-modified succinimides can be used, and it is preferable to combine one or more types selected from non-boron-modified succinimides with one or more types selected from boron-modified succinimides. However, in the lubricating oil composition of this embodiment, since the dispersant may induce soot to the lubricated surface and deteriorate the wear resistance, the content of the dispersant is preferably 12.00 mass % or less, more preferably 8.50 mass % or less, and even more preferably 6.50 mass % or less, based on the total amount (100 mass %) of the lubricating oil composition.
[0050] The content of nitrogen atoms derived from the dispersant (more specifically, the total amount of nitrogen atoms derived from the non-boron-modified succinimide and the boron-modified succinimide) is preferably 0.15 mass% or less, more preferably 0.12 mass% or less, and even more preferably 0.10 mass% or less, based on the total amount (100 mass%) of the lubricating oil composition. The nitrogen atom content can be measured in accordance with JIS K 2609:1998.
[0051] <Other ingredients> The lubricating oil composition of this embodiment may contain components other than those described above, as necessary, to the extent that the effects of the present invention are not impaired.
