[0002] The present disclosure relates to heating apparatus and non-combustion heating devices, and more particularly to electronic heating apparatus used to heat relaxing or medicinal substances, such as tobacco. [Background technology]

[0003] At one time, non-combustion heating devices have become an alternative to cigarettes. Non-combustion heating devices include a heater and tobacco, and the heater can be powered by a power source. When the heater heats the tobacco, aerosols are generated by the user puffing on the tobacco. Since the heating temperature of non-combustion heating devices is lower than that of cigarettes, some of the harmful substances that can be generated by combusted cigarettes are reduced.

[0004] Existing non-combustion heating devices have several drawbacks. For example, the thermal diffusivity of these heating devices is relatively low, so users usually have to wait a long time, about 15 to 20 seconds, before the required heating temperature for generating an aerosol is reached. In addition, the heat-resistant material layer covering the heating device is prone to peeling off, which significantly shortens the lifespan of the heating device and increases the risk of emitting harmful substances when the cigarette is burned.

[0005] In view of the above, it becomes necessary to improve non-combustion heating devices to shorten the heating time while at the same time ensuring safety in use. [Prior art documents] [Patent documents]

[0015] Reference will now be made in detail to the exemplary embodiments, examples of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings. Wherever possible, the same reference numbers will be used throughout the drawings to refer to the same or like elements.

[0016] Electric non-combustion heating devices typically include a housing that encloses the tobacco, a heating device, a controller, and a power source. The power source provides electricity to the heating device, which heats the tobacco enclosed within the housing. The heating device includes a heating element that may comprise a ceramic material. The heating wire may be embedded in the ceramic material heating element. The heating wire generates heat through electricity and is capable of transferring heat to the ceramic material. The heating wire may be polished so that heavy metals are not precipitated at high temperatures and so that the heating wire is not damaged during use.

[0017] In the present disclosure, a heating device is described that includes an insulating layer that includes a polycrystalline material with a valve metal oxide. Unlike the prior art, where the ceramic material is formed by a thick-film printing process, the insulating layer according to the present disclosure can be formed by a micro-arc oxidation (MAO) process. Micro-arc oxidation (MAO), also called plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO), is an electrochemical process that treats the surface of a metal substrate and forms an oxide coating on the metal substrate. The oxide layer can insulate the metal substrate from external electrical influences and can protect the metal substrate from corrosion. The composition of the oxide layer is determined by the composition of the metal substrate, the electrolyte parameters, and the electrical parameters. In some embodiments, the oxide layer includes a polycrystalline material. These materials can have the same or better insulating performance than ceramic materials.

[0018] According to some embodiments consistent with the present disclosure, the MAO process can be applied to metal substrates having valve metals such as aluminum (Al), magnesium (Mg), titanium (Ti), tungsten (W), zirconium (Zr), niobium (Nb), and tantalum (Ta). The oxide layer so formed can also comprise a valve metal oxide. Advantages of such oxide layers include improved properties of the substrate material, such as dielectric properties, surface strength, wear resistance, heat resistance, and corrosion resistance. The microhardness of the oxide layer according to the present disclosure can reach as high as 3000HV, including in the range of 1000-2000HV. Thus, the microhardness is significantly higher over the metal substrate forming such an oxide layer. The oxide layer also provides excellent insulating properties. In some embodiments, the insulating resistance can reach as high as 100M. Moreover, the MAO process can allow the oxide layer to be formed on the metal substrate, so that the oxide layer does not occupy extra space and can be formed evenly on the metal substrate.

[0019] A non-combustion heating device according to the present disclosure may include a heating device for receiving and heating a product, a support structure connected to the heating device for securing the heating device, a cavity connected to the support structure for receiving the product, a power source for providing power to the heating device, and a switch for controlling the power on and off. The heating device heats the product, and an aerosol is generated from the product that is inhaled by a user. The product may include tobacco or e-liquid containing nicotine, flavorings for relaxation or stimulant effects, medicines for relieving respiratory discomfort, etc.

[0020] The heating element of the non-combustion heating device according to the present disclosure can be made from metal. The MAO process can be applied to the heating element. In some embodiments, the heating element includes a casing and a heating element made of metal. The metal type of the casing and the metal type of the heating element can be the same or different. The casing and the heating element are in direct contact so that the heating element can efficiently transfer heat to the casing. An insulating layer is formed between the heating element and the casing to avoid short circuits. In some embodiments, the heating element includes a heating element without a casing, where the heating element is in direct contact with the product to be heated, in which case the insulating layer is formed on the outer surface of the heating element. In some embodiments, the insulating layer can be formed by the MAO process.

[0021] FIG. 1 shows a schematic diagram of an exemplary heating device 1 consistent with some disclosed embodiments. In accordance with the present disclosure, the heating device 1 can be applied to a non-combustion heating device (not shown). As shown in FIG. 1, the heating device 1 can have a casing 10. The casing 10 can include a body 11 and an end 13. The end 13 can receive a product to be heated by the heating device 1. In some embodiments, the product can be a tobacco containing nicotine. In other embodiments, the product can include a flavoring or a medicine, depending on different requirements of a user of the non-combustion heating device. The product does not necessarily have to be in a solid state. In some embodiments, the product can be in a liquid state and enclosed in a container. The casing 10 can be made of metal or any other material with high thermal conductivity. Although shown in FIG. 1 as a blade shape, the casing 10 according to the present disclosure can be constructed to be in other shapes, such as a triangular, U-shaped, W-shaped, or cylindrical shape. It should be understood that the shape of the casing 10 is not limited to the examples described herein, as long as the desired heating efficiency and accessibility to the product are achieved.

[0022] In some embodiments, the casing 10 can be heated by a heating element (not shown), which can be wholly or partially disposed within the interior of the casing 10. When the casing 10 is heated, an aerosol can be generated from the product. The aerosol includes small solid particles or droplets in a gaseous state that can be inhaled by a user of the non-combustion heating device. In accordance with the present disclosure, the heating apparatus 1 may further include an insulating layer formed between the inner surface of the casing 10 and the outer surface of the heating element. The insulating layer can include a polycrystalline material, including a valve metal oxide. Details of the material and formation of the insulating layer are described below.

[0023] FIG. 2 illustrates an exploded view of an exemplary heating device 2 consistent with some disclosed embodiments. Similar to heating device 1, heating device 2 may also include a casing and an end portion. As shown in FIG. 2, the casing may include a first casing plate 111 and a second casing plate 112. These two casing plates 111, 112 may be manufactured separately and then assembled together to form an enclosed space. A heating element 120 may be disposed within the enclosed space. In accordance with the present disclosure, one or both of the first casing plate 111 and the second casing plate 112 may include a retaining cavity 114 formed on their respective inner surfaces. In accordance with the present disclosure, the casing cavity 114 may be formed on one or both of the inner surfaces of the two casing plates 111, 112. The retaining cavity 114 may accommodate the heating element 120 when the heating element 120 is placed between the two casing plates 111, 112. The depth of the holding cavity 114 can be designed so that the two casing plates 111, 112 can be seamlessly assembled with almost no room between the heating element 120 and the inner surfaces of the two casing plates 111, 112.

[0024] In some embodiments, the heating element 120 can be disposed entirely within the enclosed space of the casing. In other embodiments, the heating element 120 can be disposed partially within the casing with the remaining portion extending outside the casing. The extended portion can be connected to another portion of the non-combustion heating device for electrical and / or thermal transfer.

[0025] As shown in FIG. 2, the heating element 120 can be a heating coil having a flat shape, which means that the thickness of the heating coil is much smaller than its length and width. The length and width directions of the heating coil can be considered to form a plane parallel to the surfaces of the two casing plates 111, 112. In some embodiments, the heating element 120 can include a heating portion 121 and a conductive portion 122. The heating portion 121 can be connected to an electric power source, so that the heating portion 121 can generate heat when an electric current passes through it. Also, the conductive portion 122 can be connected to an electric power source at one end, while adjacent to the heating element 121 at the other end. The electric power can be provided by a power source of the non-combustion heating device. In some embodiments, the conductive portion 122 can include a pair of pins for electrical connection.

[0026] In accordance with the present disclosure, an insulating layer can be formed between the inner surface of the casing 10 and the outer surface of the heating element 120. In some embodiments, the insulating layer 113 can be formed on the outer surface of the heating element 120. Because the heating element 120 is disposed within the casing, the insulating layer 113 is located between the inner surface of the casing 10 and the outer surface of the heating element 120.

[0027] FIG. 3 shows an exploded view of another exemplary heating device 3 consistent with some disclosed embodiments. The same parts of the heating device 2 and the heating device 3 are designated by the same reference numerals, and therefore the description thereof will not be repeated. Unlike the heating device 2, an insulating layer is not formed on the outer surface of the heating element 120. As shown in FIG. 3, the insulating layer 119 can be formed on the inner surface of the casing (e.g., the inner surface of the first casing plate 111). Since the heating element 120 is disposed in the casing 10, the insulating layer 119 is positioned between the inner surface of the casing and the outer surface of the heating element 120. In some embodiments, the insulating layer 119 can be formed on only a portion of the inner surface of the casing 10, and in the absence of the insulating layer 119, the heating element 120 may contact the inner surface of the casing, causing a short circuit.

[0028] Consistent with some embodiments according to the present disclosure, the insulating layer formed between the inner surface of the casing and the outer surface of the heating element can be formed on both the inner surface of the casing and the outer surface of the heating element. It should be understood that the thickness of each side of the insulating layer in these embodiments can be less than the thickness of a single insulating layer 113 or 119, but the combined thickness of the two sides of the insulating layer is equal to or close to the thickness of a single insulating layer 113 or 119.

[0029] FIG. 4 shows an exploded view of yet another exemplary heating device 4 consistent with some disclosed embodiments. The parts of the heating device 4 that are the same as those of the heating device 2 and the heating device 3 are designated by the same reference numerals, and therefore the description thereof will not be repeated. The inner surface of the casing of the heating device 4 may include a locating groove 115 formed therein. For example, as shown in FIG. 4, the locating groove 115 is provided in a retaining cavity 114 in the inner surface of one casing plate 111. In other examples not shown herein, the locating groove can be formed in two or more inner surfaces on each side of the body of the casing. The locating groove 115 can be designed and manufactured to match the shape of the heating element 120. Thus, when the heating element 120 is installed in the casing 10, the heating element 120 can be fixed in the locating groove 115.

[0030] Adding the locating groove 15 to fix the heating element 120 in the casing helps the heating element 120 to transfer heat to the casing and to the product more efficiently and with less heat loss. It also prevents the heating element 120 from moving in the casing. It should be noted that although the locating groove 115 in FIG. 4 has a flat coil shape that matches the shape of the heating element 120, this is merely an example, and those skilled in the art can realize the above-mentioned disclosure and the above-mentioned objectives of the present disclosure with other shapes of the locating groove and heating element by the teachings of the present disclosure. The heating element 120 can be fixed in the locating groove 115 by a bolt connection, pressure transmitted from the casing 10, or other suitable connection mechanism.

[0031] FIG. 5 illustrates an exploded view of another exemplary heating device 5 consistent with certain disclosed embodiments. The same parts of the heating devices 2-4 and the heating device 5 are designated by the same reference numerals, and therefore the description thereof will not be repeated. Unlike the heating device 4, an insulating layer is not formed on the outer surface of the heating element 120. As shown in FIG. 5, the insulating layer 119 can be formed on the inner surface of the casing (e.g., the inner surface of the first casing plate 111). Similar to the heating device 4, the inner surface of the casing 10 of the heating device 5 may include a positioning groove 115 formed therein. The function and advantages of such a positioning groove 115 are the same as those of the heating device 4, and therefore the description thereof will not be repeated.

[0032] The casing in each of the above exemplary heating devices 2-5 can tightly surround and secure the heating element 120, and the heating element 120 can be in direct contact with the inner surface of the casing. This configuration allows the heat generated by the heating element 120 to be efficiently transferred to the casing and then to the product. As a result, the waiting time for aerosol generation can be significantly reduced from 15-20 seconds in the past to only a few seconds (e.g., less than 5 seconds). Thus, a user can immediately begin inhaling the aerosol after powering a non-combustion heating device incorporating a heating device according to the present disclosure.

[0033] The casings of the above heating devices 2-5 are all assembled from two independent casing plates 111, 112. These are non-limiting examples in the present disclosure. In some embodiments, the casing of the heating device may include an integral body. It should be noted that an "integral body" structure does not require that the casing be constructed integrally from one end to the other. If the structure can be integrated into a single piece during manufacturing, for example by welding, such that the single piece is not clearly distinguishable, the structure can be considered as an integral body according to the present disclosure. In other embodiments, the number of casing plates can be more than two. In still other embodiments, the heating device according to the present disclosure may include a heating element without a casing. As a result, a simple heating element can be coated with an insulating layer on the outer surface of the heating element, thereby achieving the same purpose as described above of heating the product received at the end of the heating element.

[0034] In accordance with the present disclosure, the insulating layer formed between the inner surface of the casing and the outer surface of the heating element, such as the insulating layers 113, 119 described above, may include a polycrystalline material. Such a material may further include a valve metal oxide. Valve metal oxides have excellent dielectric properties as well as significant surface strength, abrasion resistance, heat resistance, and corrosion resistance. Thus, such materials are ideal for forming an insulating layer in accordance with the present disclosure. Furthermore, the valve metal oxide may be formed by the MAO process on one or more of the outer surfaces of the heating element or on at least a portion of the inner surface of the casing. In these cases, the heating element, the casing, or both may include the same valve metal as that of the polycrystalline material valve metal oxide. In some embodiments, the valve metal can be titanium or aluminum, and thus the resulting valve metal oxide can have the same properties as ceramics, which are known to be good insulating materials.

[0035] In some embodiments, the insulating layer can be formed as a continuous layer. The thickness of the insulating layer according to the present disclosure can be 5 μm to 20 μm, which is much smaller than the thickness of the heating element, so that the thickness of the insulating layer can be of little consideration when considering the size of the heating element to fit into the retention cavity of the casing.

[0036] In some embodiments, one or both of the heating element and casing of the heating device can be made from a valve metal, such as titanium. Valve metals have a good temperature coefficient of resistance, thereby allowing the operating temperature of the heating device to be controlled. For example, titanium is one of the best of all valve metals because the operating temperature can be controlled within ±2° C. With the use of valve metals, other temperature control mechanisms can be eliminated, simplifying the manufacturing process and component complexity of the heating device according to the present disclosure.

[0037] According to the present disclosure, the insulating layer can be formed continuously. Also, using valve metal oxide as the insulating layer covering the heating element or casing of the heating device has the advantage of self-healing. When the insulating layer is formed on the surface of the valve metal by the MAO process, the insulating layer can repair any cracks or holes in the layer by itself. The reason for the repair is that the electricity supplied from the power source of the non-combustion heating device continuously performs the MAO process over the entire exposed valve metal of the heating element or casing. Therefore, when the insulating layer is worn or damaged, the insulating layer repairs itself, and thus no leakage current occurs.

[0038] FIG. 6 illustrates an exemplary heating device 6 consistent with some disclosed embodiments. The heating device 6 can be applied to non-combustion heating devices. In addition to the casing 10, the heating device 6 may further include a limiting bracket (not shown) and a base 20. Similar to the heating devices 2-5, the casing 10 of the heating device 6 can surround a heating element (not shown). The base 20 can electrically connect the heating element to a power source of the non-combustion heating device. Thus, when the power source provides power to the heating element, the product received at the end of the casing 10 can be heated, thus generating an aerosol, which the user can inhale.

[0039] FIG. 7 illustrates an exploded view of an exemplary heating device 7 consistent with some disclosed embodiments. The heating device 7 may include a casing 10, a heating element 120, a limiting bracket (including a pair of covers 330a, 330b and a plurality of limiting rods 331), a pair of contact portions 333a, 333b, and a base 20. In some embodiments, the casing 10 is formed by integrating a first casing plate 111 and a second casing plate 112. The heating element 120 may include a heating portion 121 and a conductive portion, the conductive portion including a pair of pins 122a, 122b electrically coupled to a power source. When the heating device 7 is assembled, the heating element 120 may be enclosed within the casing 10, and the pair of pins 122a, 122b may be fixed to the limiting bracket.

[0040] Consistent with the present disclosure, the heating element 120 can be provided with at least one hole 127 in the conductive portion. As shown in FIG. 7, the hole 127 is drilled by one or both of the pins 122a, 122b. Correspondingly, the casing 10 can also be provided with at least one hole. For example, the first casing plate 111 and the second casing plate 112 can be provided with at least one hole 128, 129, respectively. When the heating device 7 is assembled, the hole of the casing 10 can be positioned to correspond to the hole of the heating element 120. Thus, one or more of the limiting rods 331 of the limiting bracket can pass through the hole, thereby fixing the casing 10 and the heating element 120 to the limiting bracket.

[0041] In some embodiments, the pair of contacts 333a, 333b also have at least one hole 320 corresponding to the position of the at least one hole of the heating element 120. The contacts can also be fixed to the limiting bracket by allowing the limiting rod 331 to pass through the hole 320 of the pair of contacts 333a, 333b. According to the present disclosure, the limiting bracket can fix the relative positions of the casing 10, the heating element 120, and the pair of contacts 333a, 333b. The pair of covers 330a, 330b can be coupled to surround the pair of pins 122a, 122b.

[0042] According to the present disclosure, the base 20 is provided with a mounting cavity (not shown) into which the pair of covers 330a, 330b and the pair of contacts 333a, 333b can be inserted. This allows the pair of pins 122a, 122b of the heating element 120 to be electrically connected to a power source through one contact of the mounting cavity. The pair of pins can be removed when a fault is detected or when the heating device 7 needs to be replaced with a different one. In some embodiments, after insertion, a high-temperature resistant plastic can be injected into the mounting cavity to prevent the heat generated by the heating device 7 from transferring to other components of the non-combustion heating device. In some embodiments, the base 20 can be made of a high-temperature resistant plastic to prevent the heat generated by the heating device 7 from transferring to other components of the non-combustion heating device.

[0043] In the above description, the limiting rod 131 is given as an example to secure and connect the casing 10, the heating element 120, the limiting bracket, and the pair of contact portions 333a, 333b, but it should be noted that, in accordance with the teachings of the present disclosure, other suitable connection mechanisms can be adopted to achieve the same objectives and results as described above.

[0044] 8A and 8B show another view of the first casing plate 111 and the second casing plate 112 shown in FIG. 7, consistent with some disclosed embodiments. As described above, the casing plates 111, 112 can be joined to form the casing 10 of the heating device 7, and the heating element 120 can be partially disposed inside the casing 10. In some embodiments, the first casing plate 111 has a length L1, and the second casing plate 112 has a length L2. As shown in FIG. 8A and FIG. 8B, L1 is longer than L2. The difference between L1 and L2 can allow at least a portion of the heating element 120 to be exposed outside the casing 10 on the short side of the two casing plates. The exposed portion of the heating element 120 can be electrically connected to a power source of the non-combustion heating device incorporating the heating device 7. In addition, the long sides of the two casing plates 111, 112 can also provide support for the heating element 120 enclosed within the casing 10, so that the casing 10 and the heating element 120 can be fixed to the base of the heating device 7 with high stability. It should be noted that this is merely an example, and a person skilled in the art can achieve the same objective as the above disclosure by setting the two casing plates 111, 112 to have other suitable lengths, regardless of whether the lengths of the two casing plates 111, 112 are different or the same, while achieving the above objective of the present disclosure through the teachings of the present disclosure. In some embodiments, the length L1 and the length L2 are the same, and at least a part of the heating element can be exposed outside the casing by extending from the bottom edge of the casing. Thus, the heating element can be removably connected to a power source through a contact portion in the same manner.

[0045] 8A and 8B, the first casing plate 111 and the second casing plate 112 each include a heating portion 116 and a fixing portion 117. Thus, when the casing plates 111, 112 are combined to form the casing 10, the casing 10 may also include a heating portion and a fixing portion. In some embodiments, the heating portion of the casing 10 may be located at a position corresponding to the heating portion 121 of the heating element 120, and the fixing portion of the casing 10 may be located at a position corresponding to the conductive portion 122 of the heating element 120.

[0046] When the heating device according to the present disclosure is in operation, the heating part 121 can generate heat and transfer the heat to the heating part of the casing 10. In order to reduce unexpected heat loss from the conductive part 122 and the fixed part of the casing 10, at least one of the heating element 120 or the casing 10 is provided with a thermal insulation structure. It should be noted that although holes or grooves are used as the thermal insulation structure in the following description, this is merely an example, and those skilled in the art can also achieve the aforementioned objectives of the present disclosure by designing the insulating structure at other positions or by using other insulating structures according to the teachings of the present disclosure.

[0047] In some embodiments, a heat insulating structure can be formed between the heating portion 116 and the fixed portion 117 of the casing 10 and / or between the heating portion 121 and the conductive portion 122 of the heating element 120, so that the heat generated by the heating element 120 can be retained in the heating portion 116 and the heating portion 121. Therefore, the heat generated by the heating element 120 cannot be transferred to the fixed portion 117 and / or the conductive portion 122, and as a result, by providing the heat insulating structure, the heat loss is reduced.

[0048] 8A and 8B, an example of an insulation structure according to the present disclosure includes at least one insulation groove 141 and / or at least one insulation hole 142 on one side of a casing (e.g., casing plate 111). The insulation groove 141 can be provided at or near the dividing line between the heating part 116 and the fixed part 117 of the casing plate 111. As shown in FIG. 8A, in some embodiments, the insulation groove 141 can be perpendicular to a line 1 extending from the heating part of the casing 10 to the fixed part of the casing 10. In some embodiments, the insulation groove 141 can be a straight line or a wavy line.

[0049] In some embodiments, when the heating element 120 contacts the first casing plate 111 or the second casing plate 112 on one side of the casing 10, the insulating groove 141 can be provided on the other side of the casing 10. In other embodiments, when the heating element 120 is installed inside the casing 10, the insulating groove 141 can be installed on the outer surface of the casing 10. In yet another embodiment, the insulating groove 141 can be installed on both sides of the casing plate. In yet another embodiment, as shown in FIG. 8A and FIG. 8B, the insulating groove 141 can be provided with a semicircular notch on the side edge of the casing plates 111 and 112. This reduces the cross-sectional area of the casing 10, shortening the heat transfer path and reducing heat loss. Therefore, the reduction in heat transfer to the fixing part can prevent the electrode from overheating. On the other hand, the reduction in heat loss can improve the heating efficiency of the heating part and ensure that the heating part heats up quickly.

[0050] Consistent with other embodiments according to the present disclosure, the casing 10 may also include at least one insulating hole 142. The insulating hole 142 may be located in the first casing plate 111, the second casing plate 112, or both. The insulating hole 142 may be positioned at or near the center of the fixed portion 117 of the casing plates 111, 112. In some embodiments, as shown in FIG. 8A, the line 1 may pass through the insulating hole 142. It should be understood that the insulating hole 142 does not necessarily have to be located in the conductive portion. In other embodiments not shown here, the insulating hole 142 may be located in the heating portion of the heating element. The insulating hole in such an embodiment should be punched at a location closer to the conductive portion than the other end of the heating element that receives the product to be heated. This is because the heat transfer towards the other end of the heating element should not be impaired by such an insulating hole. In accordance with the present disclosure, the insulating hole may function in a similar mechanism to the insulating groove 141 in terms of reducing the area of the heat transfer path, and therefore the description thereof will not be repeated.

[0051] FIG. 9 illustrates a top view of a partially assembled heating device 9, consistent with certain disclosed embodiments. As shown in FIG. 9, the heating element 120 fits into the retention cavity 114 of the first casing plate 111 of the heating device 9. As explained above, the heating device 9 is provided with a second casing plate (not shown), which may or may not include a retention cavity, depending on the difference in thickness between the retention cavity 114 and the heating element. Once assembly is complete, the first casing plate 111 and the second casing plate form the casing of the heating device 9, thereby enclosing the heating element 120. As a result, FIG. 9 also illustrates the relative position of the heating element 120 inside the casing after the heating device 9 is assembled.

[0052] Similar to the exemplary heating device described above, the heating element 120 of the heating device 9 may include at least one hole 127, and similarly, the first casing plate 111 may include at least one hole (not shown). It should be understood that the second casing plate may also include at least one hole. As shown in FIG. 9, these holes correspond to each other and overlap each other once assembled. In some embodiments, the overlapping holes can receive the limiting rods of the limiting brackets to fix and connect the casing and heating element 120 with other components of the non-combustion heating device incorporating the heating device 9. In other embodiments, the overlapping holes can be utilized as mounting holes via mounting mechanisms such as screws or snaps to achieve the aforementioned purpose of fixing and connecting. Needless to say, the heating element 120 and the first casing plate of the heating device 9 may further include one or more insulating holes 142 to reduce the heat transferred from the heating part of the heating element 120 to the base (not shown) of the heating device 9.

[0053] FIG. 10 illustrates a cross-sectional view of another exemplary heating device 100 consistent with certain disclosed embodiments. The heating device 100 includes a casing 10 and a base 20. As shown in FIG. 10, the casing 10 can be a cylindrical integral body casing, and the heating element 120 can fit into the retaining cavity 114 of the casing 10. In some embodiments, the heating element 120 can be solenoid shaped. As shown in FIG. 10, the heating element 120 spirals around the support rod 150. One end of the heating element 120 is outside the support rod 150 and is electrically connected to the first electrode 125. The other end of the heating element 120 is inside the support rod 50 and is electrically connected to the second electrode 124. The support rod 150 can be made of a dielectric material such as glass or ceramic, so that the two ends of the heating element 120 and the two electrodes 124, 125 connected to the two ends respectively are insulated from each other, thus avoiding short circuit. In some embodiments, the heating element 120 can be covered by an insulating layer (not shown) produced by a MAO process on the outer surface of the heating element 120. In this way, adjacent loops of the solenoid-shaped heating element 120 are insulated from each other, thus avoiding short circuit.

[0054] 11-12 show assembly views of the exemplary heating device 100 shown in FIG. 10, consistent with certain disclosed embodiments. The base 20 can include a mounting cavity 210. The electrodes 124 and 125, the lower end of the support rod 150, and the lower end of the heating element 120 can be inserted into the mounting cavity 210. As shown in FIG. 12, the electrodes 124, the support rod 150, the heating element 120, and the electrodes 125 are positioned from the longitudinal axis of the heating device 10 toward the periphery of the heating device 100. After insertion, the base 20 can fix the relative positions of these components. In some embodiments, the electrode 124 can be connected to the negative pole of a power source of a non-combustion heating device, and the electrode 125 can be connected to the positive pole of the power source. Thus, the heating element 120 can be heated by power provided from the power source. It should also be noted that a casing is not necessarily required to achieve the objectives of the present disclosure, and that the heating device may include a heating element without a casing, yet the heating element is the same or similar to those described herein.

[0055] 13-14 show assembly views of another exemplary heating device 101 consistent with some disclosed embodiments. As shown in FIG. 13, the heating device 101 has a cross-shaped cross section, with each of the casing ridges 110a, 110b, 110c perpendicular to the adjacent ridges. The heating element 120 may include at least two heating coils 126a, 126b that are symmetrical along the longitudinal axis of the heating element 120. Each of the heating coils 126a, 126b may have a 90 degree V-shaped cross section. Each of the heating coils 126a, 126b may be formed by folding or bending a conductive metal strip, which converts electrical power into heat. Each of the heating coils 126a, 126b may be separated from the adjacent heating coil by a space. In some embodiments, the heating coils 126a, 126b may have an insulating layer coated thereon, which may be produced on the outer surface of the heating coil by a MAO process. This prevents short circuits as the folds or bends of the metal strip do not come into direct contact with each other.

[0056] In some embodiments, the casing 10 may include at least two casing grooves 118 on the outer surface of the casing 10, which form a number of ridges (e.g., ridges 110a, 110b, 110c) on the casing 10. As shown in Figures 13-14, the ridges are located in positions that correspond to the shapes of the heating coils 126a, 126b. The ridges on the casing 10 increase the area of the outer surface of the casing 10, thereby increasing the contact area between the product and the casing 10. This configuration can accelerate the heating process, so that the aerosol is generated faster and inhaled by the user, which also increases the heating efficiency and reduces heat loss.

[0057] In some embodiments, the casing 10 may also include multiple retention cavities 114. Each retention cavity 114 may accommodate one heating coil (e.g., heating coil 126a or 126b). As shown in FIG. 13, the spatial cross section of the casing 10 includes two retention cavities 114 in a V-shape that is symmetrical along the longitudinal axis of the casing. Thus, the shape of the retention cavities 114 matches the shape of the heating coils. As a result, the heating coils are firmly attached to the casing 10 and in direct contact with the retention cavities 114, allowing the casing 10 to quickly and efficiently transfer the heat generated by the heating element 120 to the product. This also prevents the heating element 120 from moving within the casing.

[0058] As shown in Figures 13-14, the heating coils 126a, 126b are electrically connected to a pair of electrodes 124 and 125, respectively. The connections can be formed by a laser welding process, resulting in good structural strength and low connection resistance. The electrodes 124 and 125 can be fixed to the base 20 and extend outside the base 20. The electrodes 124 and 125 can further be coupled to a power source of a non-combustion heating device, so that the electric current flowing through the heating element 120 can be converted into heat.

[0059] FIG. 15 illustrates an enlarged view of a portion 600 of the exemplary heating device 101 shown in FIG. 14, consistent with some disclosed embodiments. Each heating coil 126a, 126b may include a plurality of heating strips 601 that may be arranged along the longitudinal axis of the heating element 120. Each heating strip 601 may include a first heating strip 602 and a second heating strip 603. Both the first heating strip 602 and the second heating strip 603 are U-shaped. Each heating strip 601 (i.e., the first heating strip 602 or the second heating strip 603) may include a first straight portion 611, a curved portion 612, and a second straight portion 613. The first straight portion 611 and the second straight portion 613 may be parallel to each other, and both are perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the heating element 120. As shown in Fig. 15, the first straight portion 611 is connected to one end of the curved portion 612, and the second straight portion 613 is connected to the other end of the curved portion 612. By processing these portions so that they are smoothly connected, stress is not accumulated at the connection portion, and the structural strength of the heating coils 126a and 126b is increased. This is merely an example, and it should be noted that those skilled in the art can realize the functions of the first heating strip 602 and the second heating strip 603 by shapes other than U-shape, such as arc-shaped, inclined, wavy, etc., according to the teachings of the present disclosure, and the shapes of the first heating strip 602 and the second heating strip 603 can be the same or different.

[0060] Also, it should be noted that a casing is not necessary to achieve the objectives of this disclosure: the heating device may include a heating element without a casing, and the heating element may be similar to that illustrated in Figures 13-15 above.

[0061] In accordance with the present disclosure, the heating apparatus described herein can also be incorporated into a non-combustion heating device. Non-combustion heating devices are also referred to as heated tobacco products (HTPs), non-combustion heating products, electrically heated tobacco systems, smokeless cigarettes, etc. Such devices heat tobacco or other materials at lower temperatures than cigarettes that are traditionally used for ignition. The operating temperatures of these devices are typically lower than 600°C. The maximum operating temperature of the heating element according to the present disclosure is about 800°C, which is far above the upper operating temperature level of these devices. Thus, the device can withstand sudden increases in operating temperature while maintaining the functional properties of the device intact. Furthermore, heating elements using valve metals with excellent temperature coefficients of resistance according to the present disclosure typically operate normally at temperatures between 200°C and 380°C, making them safer for users to use than conventional non-combustion heating devices that function at operating temperatures much higher than this temperature range.

[0062] FIG. 16 illustrates a block diagram of an exemplary non-combustion heating device 160 consistent with some disclosed embodiments. The heating device 160 may include a heating device 161. The heating device 161 may have the same configuration or be manufactured by the same process as other heating devices disclosed herein. The heating device 160 may further include a support structure 162 connected to the heating device 161, thus fixing the heating device 161 within the heating device 160. In some embodiments, the support structure 162 may include a base, which may have the same configuration or be manufactured by the same process as other bases (e.g., base 20) disclosed herein. The base may include one or more electrodes (e.g., electrodes 124, 125) by which the heating device 161 may be electrically coupled to a power source 163. The power source 163 may be disposed within the support structure 162. Thus, a heating element (e.g., heating element 120) of heating device 161 receives power from power source 163 and converts the power into heat so that a product received by the heating device can be heated. Power source 163 according to the present disclosure can be a DC power source (e.g., a primary or secondary battery) or an AC power source (e.g., mains power with a voltage of 110V, 220V, etc.). Typically, a DC power source is more suitable for a portable device than an AC power source.

[0063] In some embodiments, the heating device 160 may further include a cavity 164 connected to the support structure 162. The cavity 164 may surround the heating apparatus 161 and receive a product to be heated. The cavity 164 may protect the product from contact by humans or other unintended objects, thereby preventing inadvertent combustion. Additionally, the heating device 160 may trap the heat generated by the heating apparatus 161 inside the cavity 164, thereby increasing heating efficiency.

[0064] 17 illustrates a flow chart of an exemplary method 1700 for manufacturing a heating device consistent with certain disclosed embodiments. It is recognized that some of the steps disclosed herein may be performed optionally. Further, some of the steps may be performed simultaneously or in a different order than that shown in FIG.

[0065] In step 1702, the casing is fabricated. In some embodiments, the casing can be surrounded by at least one casing plate. FIG. 18 illustrates an intermediate process of fabricating a casing for a heating device, consistent with some disclosed embodiments. As illustrated in FIG. 18, a plurality of shapes are created, for example, by etching or cutting a metal plate with a predetermined pattern, and each of these shapes corresponds to a shape of the first casing plate 111. At least one hole 128 can be punched through the metal plate for each shape. In embodiments where the casing is assembled from two casing plates, the other casing plate can be manufactured by the same process as the first casing plate 111. Therefore, the description of the manufacturing process will not be repeated here.

[0066] In some embodiments, the metal plate may include a valve metal, such as Al, Mg, Ti, W, Zr, Nb, and Ta. Thus, the machined casing plate may also include the same valve metal. According to some embodiments, the first casing plate 111 may include a retention cavity on its inner surface. The retention cavity may be fabricated by etching the casing plate or bending an edge of the casing plate, such that the heating element may be at least partially disposed in the retention cavity. The retention cavity is configured to closely hold the heating element with or without a space between the heating element and the casing. In some embodiments, the first casing plate 111 may further include a locating groove, which may be fabricated by machining or etching a pattern that is the same as the coil pattern of the heating element, throughout the first casing plate 111. The locating groove may secure the heating element to the inside of the casing. In embodiments using multiple casing plates to form the casing, the multiple casing plates may be joined by pressure welding to tightly enclose the casing. Alternatively, the casing plates are held together by bolts or other locking mechanisms. In accordance with the present disclosure, the casing can also be formed with a unitary body structure (eg, cylindrical).

[0067] Referring again to FIG. 17, in step 1704, the heating element is fabricated. FIG. 19A illustrates an intermediate process of fabricating a heating element of a heating device, consistent with some disclosed embodiments. As shown in FIG. 19A, multiple shapes are created, for example, by etching or cutting into a metal plate with different predefined patterns, and each of these shapes corresponds to the shape of the heating element 120. Besides the shape shown in FIG. 19A, the heating element can also be a flat shape as shown in FIGS. 2-5, a solenoid shape as shown in FIGS. 10-12, or a V-shaped heating coil as shown in FIGS. 13-14. Bending or forming of the heating element 120 may be required to achieve the desired shape. In some embodiments, the metal plate may include valve metals such as Al, Mg, Ti, W, Zr, Nb, and Ta. Thus, the resulting heating element may also include the same valve metal. As shown in FIG. 19A, the heating element 120 may include a heating portion 121 and a conductive portion 122.

[0068] FIG. 19B illustrates an enlarged view of a portion 1220 of the exemplary heating device shown in FIG. 19A, consistent with certain disclosed embodiments. In accordance with the present disclosure, at least a portion of the conductive portion 122 can be made into at least one electrode 123. After an insulating layer is formed on the surface of the heating element 120 (described in detail below), the insulating layer covering a portion of the underlying metal that constitutes the electrode 123 can be etched away by a laser, thereby allowing the electrode 123 to be electrically connected to other components, such as a power source for providing power to the heating element 120 to convert it into thermal energy. In some embodiments, the pair of electrodes 123 can be formed into a pair of pins, thereby allowing the heating element 120 to be connected to a power source of a non-combustion heating device.

[0069] Referring again to FIG. 17, in step 1706, an insulating layer can be formed between the inner surface of the casing and the outer surface of the heating element by a MAO process. In some embodiments, the insulating layer can be formed on the outer surface of the heating element, on the inner surface of the casing, or on both the outer surface of the heating element and the inner surface of the casing. The MAO process may include preparing an electrolyte, immersing the processed surface in the electrolyte, charging the surface with a power source, and forming an insulating layer on the surface. When an insulating layer is "formed" on a surface, it means that the insulating layer is produced by a reaction between the metal of the surface and the electrolyte that produces a metal oxide, and the metal component of the metal oxide of the insulating layer is the same as the metal of the surface. Thus, the insulating layer adheres to the surface with sufficient wear resistance.

[0070] In some embodiments, the electrolyte can be a mixture of multiple types of solutions including at least sodium silicate solution, sodium hydroxide solution, and film-forming additive, where the sodium silicate solution has a solution concentration of 12 g / L-19 g / L, the sodium hydroxide solution has a solution concentration of 2 g / L-8 g / L, and the film-forming additive has a solution concentration of 4 g / L-8 g / L. Sodium silicate is the main salt of the electrolyte, and sodium hydroxide is used to adjust the pH of the electrolyte. The respective proportions of the solutions in the electrolyte are 1.2%-1.9% sodium silicate solution, 0.2%-0.8% sodium hydroxide solution, and 0.4%-0.8% film-forming additive. The film-forming additive can be potassium fluoride, sodium fluoride, sodium citrate, etc. It should be understood that other suitable film-forming additives can also be used as long as they can achieve the aforementioned objectives of the present disclosure.

[0071] In some embodiments, the power supply used in the MAO process during the formation of the insulating layer is 1.6 A / dm 3 ~2.4A / dm 3The MAO process may have a current density of 1000 Hz, a cutoff discharge voltage of 320V-380V, and a frequency of 800HZ-1200HZ. A layer containing a metal oxide is formed on the surface, and the type of metal oxide is determined by the metal content of the surface of the metal plate. The metal oxide can be an oxide with nanometer-level purity. After the MAO process, the surface to which the MAO process is applied can be cleaned by a neutral ultrasonic cleaning solution, and then the surface is immersed in hot water having a temperature of 80°C or higher. Subsequently, a polycrystalline ceramic insulating layer can be formed on the surface. At this intermediate stage, it is possible for the insulating layer to have microscopic holes. However, when the insulating layer is dried at high temperature, such holes are sealed and thus the holes are eliminated. As a result, the insulating layer according to the present disclosure can be continuously formed. The thickness of the insulating layer can be approximately several micrometers. In some embodiments, the thickness of the insulating layer can be 5 μm to 20 μm.

[0072] In step 1708, at least a portion of the heating element can be enclosed in the casing. FIG. 20 illustrates an exemplary process for assembling a heating device consistent with certain disclosed embodiments. As shown in FIG. 20, the casing 10 is fully formed, and one side of the casing 10 uses a casing plate processed according to step 1702, as described in conjunction with FIG. 18. The heating element 120 is also fully formed, and uses a heating element processed according to step 1704, as described in conjunction with FIG. 19A and FIG. 19B. Thus, the heating element 120 can be inserted into the space enclosed by the casing plate of the casing 10. Thus, a portion of the heating element 120 can be enclosed by the casing 10, while the remaining portion can be exposed as a conductive portion electrically coupled to a power source. In such an embodiment, a direct contact between the heating element 120 and the casing 10 can be achieved by a fastening method applied to the casing plate, such as fastening the casing plate with a bolt. In other embodiments, the heating element 120 can be enclosed within the casing 10 before the casing plates are connected by pressure welding, in this way the heating element 120 can be in direct contact with the inner surface of the casing 10 after they are assembled by the pressure applied when welding the two casing plates together.

[0073] In some embodiments, heating devices manufactured by the processes disclosed herein can operate at temperatures between 200 and 380°C, while the heating devices can function normally at temperatures up to 600°C for relatively long operating times, and up to 800°C for relatively short operating times.

[0074] FIG. 21 shows an exemplary process of fixing the casing 10, the heating element 120, and the contact portion 333 using a limit bracket of the heating device 21, consistent with some disclosed embodiments. For an exploded view of the same heating device (excluding the additional base 20), one may refer to the heating device 7 in FIG. 7. In some embodiments, the second casing plate 112 (facing the viewer in FIG. 21) is shorter than the first casing plate 111 (on the other side of the second casing plate 112), and thus the electrode 123 is exposed from the casing 10 on the side where the second casing plate 112 is located. The contact portion 333 can be electrically connected to the electrode 123 on the side of the second casing plate 112, and the limit rod 331 of the limit bracket can pass through one or more holes in the first casing plate 111, the heating element 120, and the contact portion 333 to fix their relative positions.

[0075] FIG. 22 shows an exemplary process of fixing the casing 10, the heating element 120, and the contact portion 333 using a limiting bracket of another heating device 22, consistent with some disclosed embodiments. For an exploded view of the same heating device (excluding the additional base 20), one may refer to the heating device 7 in FIG. 7. A pair of covers 330 can cover the fixing portion 117 of the casing 10, and at the same time cover a part of the heating element 120 and the contact portion 333 that are positioned accordingly. In some embodiments, a number of limiting rods 331 and matching nuts can be used to tighten the first casing plate 111 and the second casing plate 112. This allows the heating element 120 to be pressurized and directly contacted with the casing 10. As a result, heat can be transferred from the heating element 120 to the casing 10 more efficiently, and the casing 10, the heating element 120, the contact portion 333, and the cover 330 can be fixed in relative positions to each other, respectively, and prevented from being displaced during use.

[0076] FIG. 23 illustrates a schematic diagram of an exemplary surface of a heating device, consistent with certain disclosed embodiments.
