Description

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0001] The invention relates to the technical field of heated tobacco device comprising an oven and a closure device to close or open the oven when needed, the oven receiving an aerosol generating heat-not-burn consumable article which can be a heat stick, either a heat tobacco stick (HTS) or another flavor generating heat stick.

[0002] The technical field of aerosol generating heat stick or heat-not-burn aerosol generating article (sometimes referred as “heat tobacco stick” or HTS) for heat-not-burn devices comprising an aerosol generating substance formed as a rod. This aerosol generating substance may be a homogenized tobacco material or a reconstructed tobacco substrate or a non-tobacco aerosolisable material such as for instance foam.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0003] Reduced-risk devices have become popular alternatives to traditional tobacco products such as cigarettes. By contrast to these traditional products, which rely on combustion of tobacco, reduced-risk devices typically produce a vapor or aerosol for inhalation by a user.

[0004] Heated substrate aerosol generating devices, also known as heat-not-burn devices, are one class of reduced-risk device. In a heated substrate aerosol generating device, a substrate containing tobacco or other suitable material is heated to a temperature that is sufficiently high to generate an aerosol from the material but not so high as to cause combustion of the material. This aerosol contains the components of the material sought by the user but not the undesired by-products of combustion that are generated when the material combusts.

[0005] A typical heated substrate aerosol generating device contains a heating chamber or oven that defines a cavity adapted to receive a stick of the substrate to be heated. The substrate is heated inside the cavity in order to generate the desired aerosol, and can be removed and replaced once the substrate is spent. Heated substrate aerosol generating devices are typically formed with a very compact construction so as to provide a hand-held device that is convenient to store and carry.

[0006] Generally, heat stick comprises a tobacco segment (or other aerosol generating segment), a cooling segment, and a filter segment.

[0007] According to a first prior art, a motorized system actuating a slider closing the opening of the recess of a heat tobacco stick oven in an heated tobacco device is disclosed, but the motorization is complex and expensive, and requires additional maintenance.

[0008] According to a second prior art, for example disclosed in patent application WO2020 / 199209, there is an heated tobacco device with a heat tobacco stick, with a mobile closure member, with a permanent locker (both in open and closed positions). However, this second prior art does provide for a system which is neither automatic enough nor sufficiently easy to use. It is not automatic enough since it does not allow for automatic move between closed and open position without specific dedicated action from user. The system provided by this second prior art is not sufficiently easy to use because the locker is not easy to use enough.

[0009] According to a third prior art, for example disclosed in patent application WO2020 / 225102, there is an heated tobacco device with a heat tobacco stick, with a mobile closure member. However, this second prior art does provide for a system which is neither automatic enough nor sufficiently secure. It is not automatic enough since it does not allow for automatic move between closed and open position without specific dedicated action from user. It is not secure enough because there is no safe system to lock the heated tobacco device in the closed position.

[0010] The technical problem to solve is: how to replace the motorization actuating a slider closing the opening of the recess of the oven for an aerosol generating heat-not-burn consumable article in an heated tobacco device, so as to make sliding mechanism simpler, while still keeping similar or comparable efficiency and ease of use, and while simultaneously maintaining or even improving closing speed?SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0011] The object of the present invention is to alleviate at least partly the above mentioned drawbacks.

[0012] More particularly, the invention aims to implement a motorless automatic mechanism which, upon tilting of the heated tobacco device, has a mass which moves under its own weight to make a closure member thereby pivoting from an open position to a closed position where the oven is closed by this closure member.

[0013] Therefore, the heated tobacco device proposed by the invention comprises:

[0014] an actuator moving the closure member upon tilting of the heated tobacco device,

[0015] with a mass using its own weight to move the closure member,

[0016] a triggerable locker which is triggered when the closure member moves from open to close position (and / or from close to open position).

[0017] This object is achieved with an heated tobacco device comprising: an oven for an aerosol generating heat-not-burn consumable article, a closure device comprising: a closure member mobile between: a closed position where the closure member closes the oven so that the oven cannot receive an aerosol generating heat-not-burn consumable article from outside the heated tobacco device, and an open position where the closure member leaves open the oven so that the oven can receive an aerosol generating heat-not-burn consumable article from outside the heated tobacco device, an actuator making the closure member mobile move from the open position toward the closed position, wherein: the actuator comprises a mass mechanically linked to the closure member, so that, upon tilting of the heated tobacco device in at least one direction, the mass moves under action of its own weight, thereby making the closure member mobile move from the open position toward the closed position, the closure device comprises a locker triggerable, upon reaching of the closed position by the closure member, so as to lock the closure member in the closed position.

[0018] An objective of embodiments of the invention is to provide an easy, pleasant and automatic way for a user to open an oven on a tobacco-vapor product or on a flavor-vapor product. An automatic oven opening system is implemented without the need for motors or additional complexity. This is achieved by using a pendulum to actuate the oven protector between open and closed positions depending on the orientation of the vapor device in which the vapor product is heated.

[0019] An objective of embodiments of the invention aims at implementing a motorless automatic mechanism which, upon tilting of the heated tobacco device, has a mass at a first end of a lever pivoting around a rotation axis, a closure member at a second opposite end of this lever thereby pivoting from an open position to a closed position where the oven is closed by this closure member.

[0020] Preferred embodiments comprise one or more of the following features, which can be taken separately or together, either in partial combination or in full combination.

[0021] Preferably, the mass is pivoting around a rotation axis which is fixed with respect to a housing of the heated tobacco device.

[0022] Hence, the structure of the actuator is made simpler.

[0023] Preferably, the actuator also comprises: a lever comprising: a first pivoting arm, pivoting around the rotation axis, extending from the rotation axis to the mass, a second pivoting arm, pivoting around the rotation axis, distinct from the first pivoting arm, supporting the closure member, extending from the rotation axis to a locking member lockable by the locker, the first pivoting arm and the second pivoting arm being disposed on opposite sides of the lever with respect to the rotation axis.

[0024] Hence, the structure of the actuator is better balanced.

[0025] Preferably, the first pivoting arm is longer than the second pivoting arm.

[0030] Hence, the locker is made more secure.

[0031] Preferably, the locker is an electromagnet, preferably activated by a Hall effect sensor detecting the mass moving, when the mass makes the closure member move from the open position toward the closed position.

[0032] Hence, the locker is made more secure.

[0033] Preferably, the locker is releasable by a release actuator triggerable by user mechanical pression or by user touch.

[0034] Hence, the closure device is made easier to use by the user of the heated tobacco device.

[0035] Preferably, the locker is releasable by being movable by a mechanical driver, the mechanical driver being preferably a spring.

[0036] Hence, the working of the actuator is made more automatic.

[0037] Preferably, the locker is releasable by being driven by an electrical driver, the electrical driver preferably turning off electrical power supply to the locker, or the electrical driver preferably powering on a counter locker whose force exceeds locking force of the locker, the electrical driver being advantageously an electromagnet.

[0038] Hence, the working of the actuator is made more automatic.

[0039] Preferably, the oven comprises: an elongate recess, preferably cylindric, for receiving an aerosol generating heat-not-burn consumable article, having an open end toward outside of the heated tobacco device and a closed end inside the heated tobacco device, a heater disposed close to or against the recess so as to heat the aerosol generating heat-not-burn consumable article, the closed position is located closer to the open end of the recess than to the closed end of the recess.

[0040] Hence, the ratio between the useful volume of the recess of the oven for receiving aerosol generating heat-not-burn consumable article and the total volume of the recess of the oven is increased.

[0041] Preferably, the closed position is located closer to the open end of the recess than to the middle between the open end and the closed end of the recess.

[0042] Hence, the ratio between the useful volume of the recess of the oven for receiving aerosol generating heat-not-burn consumable article and the total volume of the recess of the oven is increased.

[0043] Preferably, the closed position is located at a distance from the open end of the recess, this distance ranging from half the width, preferably half the diameter, of the recess to twice the width, or preferably to twice the diameter, of the recess.

[0044] Hence, there is more available place for the moves of the closure member which does not protrude outside the housing of the heated tobacco device when moving.

[0045] Preferably, the oven comprises: an elongate recess, preferably cylindric, for receiving an aerosol generating heat-not-burn consumable article, having an open end toward outside of the heated tobacco device and a closed end inside the heated tobacco device, a heater disposed close to or against the recess so as to heat the aerosol generating heat-not-burn consumable article, the closure member is in its open position when the elongate recess is vertically oriented and when the open end is above the closed end, the closure member is in its closed position when the elongate recess is tilted from its vertical orientation and when the open end is above the closed end.

[0046] Hence, the closure device is made easier to use by the user of the heated tobacco device.

[0047] Preferably, the oven comprises: an elongate recess, preferably cylindric, for receiving an aerosol generating heat-not-burn consumable article, having an open end toward outside of the heated tobacco device and a closed end inside the heated tobacco device, a heater disposed close to or against the recess so as to heat the aerosol generating heat-not-burn consumable article, the rotation axis of the mass is orthogonal to the longitudinal direction of the elongate recess.

[0048] Hence, the global volume required by the moves of the actuator is reduced.

[0049] Preferably, there is no locker, triggerable, upon reaching of the open position by the closure member, so as to lock the closure member in the open position.

[0050] Hence, the structure of the actuator is made simpler, and the closure device is made easier to use by the user of the heated tobacco device.

[0064] The aerosol generating heat-not-burn consumable article can be a heat tobacco stick or another flavor generating heat stick. In the following description, except for mention to the contrary, the aerosol generating heat-not-burn consumable article will be considered as being a heat tobacco stick (also called HTS), but it could also be another flavor generating heat stick or any other aerosol generating heat-not-burn consumable article.

[0065] The same references correspond to the same elements on different drawings. These elements may be described on only one or more figures, but they apply to all figures except for mention to the contrary.

[0066] FIG. 1 shows schematically an example of a first state of an heated tobacco device according to a first embodiment of the invention.

[0067] An heated tobacco device 1 comprises a battery 6, an oven 2 for an heat tobacco stick (HTS, not shown) which enters into the oven 2 by the opening 22, a closure device 9.

[0068] The oven 2 comprises an elongate recess 20, preferably cylindric, for receiving a heat tobacco stick (not shown), having an open end or opening 22 toward outside of the heated tobacco device 1 and a closed end 21 inside the heated tobacco device 1 toward heater 3, a heater 3 disposed close to or against the recess 20 so as to heat the heat tobacco stick (not shown).

[0069] The closure device 9 comprises a closure member 44 which is mobile between a closed position where the closure member 44 closes the oven 2 so that the oven 2 cannot receive a heat tobacco stick from outside the heated tobacco device 1, and an open position where the closure member 44 leaves open the oven 2 so that the oven 2 can receive a heat tobacco stick from outside the heated tobacco device 1.

[0070] The closure device 9 also comprises an actuator 4 making the closure member 44 mobile move from the open position toward the closed position.

[0071] This actuator 4 comprises a rotation axis 40, a lever with two pivoting arms 41 and 42 and a mass 43, mechanically linked to the closure member 44, so that, upon tilting of the heated tobacco device 1 in at least one direction, the mass 43 moves under action of its own weight, thereby making the closure member 44 mobile move from the open position toward the closed position. The mass 43 is pivoting around the rotation axis 40. The rotation axis 40 either is fixed with respect to a housing 10 of the heated tobacco device 1. The rotation axis 40 is along direction Z, which is orthogonal to the plan XY of FIG. 1.

[0072] The closed position is located closer to the opening 22 of the recess20 than to the closed end 21 of the recess 20. The closed position is located closer to the opening 22 of the recess 20 than to the middle between the opening 22 and the closed end 21 of the recess 20. The closed position is located at a distance from the opening 22 of the recess 20, this distance ranging from half the width, preferably half the diameter, of the recess 20 to twice the width, or preferably to twice the diameter, of the recess 20.

[0073] This actuator 4 also comprises a lever 46. This lever 46 comprises a first pivoting arm 41, pivoting around the rotation axis 40, extending from the rotation axis 40 to the mass 43, and a second pivoting arm 42, pivoting around the rotation axis 40, distinct from the first pivoting arm 41, supporting the closure member 44, extending from the rotation axis 40 to a locking member 45 lockable by a locker 5. The rotation axis 40 of the mass 43 is orthogonal to the longitudinal direction X of the elongate recess 20. The first pivoting arm 41 and the second pivoting arm 42 are disposed on opposite sides of the lever 46 with respect to the rotation axis 40. The first pivoting arm 41 is longer than the second pivoting arm 42. The locker 5 is releasable by being movable by a mechanical driver 52 which is preferably a spring 52.

[0074] The lever 46, with both its first pivoting arm 41 and its second pivoting arm 42, the closure member 44, and the locking member 45, are all solidary and immobile with respect to one another so as to make a single piece, and even advantageously a one-piece element.

[0075] The closure device 9 also comprises the locker 5, triggerable, upon reaching of the closed position by the closure member 44, so as to lock the closure member 44 in the closed position, by locking the locking member 45 extending from the closure member 44. The locker 5 is releasable by a release actuator 51 triggerable by user mechanical pression or by user touch. There is no locker, triggerable, upon reaching of the open position by the closure member 44, so as to lock the closure member 44 in the open position. The locker 5 is a magnetic locker 50 locking the closure member 44 by magnetic force. The locker 5 is a permanent magnet 50, coming into contact with a metallic portion 45 of the closure member 44, when the closure member 44 moves from the open position toward the closed position.

[0076] The closure member 44 is in its open position when the elongate recess 20 is vertically oriented and when the opening 22 is above the closed end 21. The lever 46 is vertically oriented, the mass 43 being the lowest part at the end of this lever 46 vertically oriented. The closure member 44 is in its open position. The opening 22 is free. A heat tobacco stick may be inserted within the recess 20 of the oven 2 or may be removed out of the recess 20 of the oven 2. The spring 52 is in its loaded or compressed state.

[0077] FIG. 2 shows schematically an example of a second state of an heated tobacco device according to a first embodiment of the invention.

[0078] The closure member 44 moves toward its closed position when the elongate recess 20 is tilted from its vertical orientation and when the opening 22 is above the closed end 21, here by being rotated clockwise as shown by curved arrow 11. The lever 46 remains vertically oriented, the mass 43 being the lowest part at the end of this lever 46 vertically oriented. The closure member 44 moves until reaching its closed position, so as to block the opening 22. A heat tobacco stick may neither be inserted within the recess 20 of the oven 2 nor be removed out of the recess 20 of the oven 2. The spring 52 remains in its compressed state.

[0079] FIG. 3 shows schematically an example of a third state of an heated tobacco device according to a first embodiment of the invention.

[0080] The magnet 50 of the locker 5 has attracted and blocked the metallic locking member 45 extending from the closure member 44, so that the closure member 44 remains in its closed position. To render this blocking function more efficient while keeping a limited encumbrance for the whole system, the metallic locking member 45 and the closure member 44 are orthogonal to each other. The metallic locking member 45 is ferritic.

[0081] FIG. 4 shows schematically an example of a fourth state of an heated tobacco device according to a first embodiment of the invention.

[0082] By a user move, represented by arrow 12 in longitudinal direction X, got by pressing on button 51, the spring 52 which was loaded or compressed, relaxes and extends in longitudinal direction X, thereby releasing the magnet 50 of locker 5 from the locking member 45, the magnet 50 sliding along the locking member 45. Once the magnet 50 of locker 5 has been released from the locking member 45, the lever 46 starts rotating clockwise under the weight of the mass 43, until this lever 46 reaches vertical orientation as on FIG. 1, the mass 43 being then at its lowest point, this lowest point being a stable balance for the lever 46. The closure member 44 will then have moved back to its open position as on FIG. 1.

[0083] FIG. 5 shows schematically an example of a first state of an heated tobacco device according to a second embodiment of the invention. The closure device 4 and the associated locker 5 work similarly as on FIG. 1 in order to close and to open the recess 20 of oven 2 with the closure member 44. The difference lies in the structure of the locker 5 and in the triggering of the locker 5 by a Hall effect sensor 7.

[0084] FIG. 6 shows schematically an example of a second state of an heated tobacco device according to a second embodiment of the invention. The closure device 4 and the associated locker 5 work similarly as on FIG. 2 in order to close and to open the recess 20 of oven 2 with the closure member 44.

[0085] The locker 5 is an electromagnet 50, preferably activated by a Hall effect sensor 7 detecting the mass 43 moving, when the mass 43 makes the closure member 44 move from the open position toward the closed position. Once the Hall effect sensor 7 has detected the moving of the mass 43, it activates the electromagnet 50 so that this activated electromagnet 50 attracts and blocks the locking member 45.

[0086] FIG. 7 shows schematically an example of a third state of an heated tobacco device according to a second embodiment of the invention. The closure device 4 and the associated locker 5 work similarly as on FIG. 3 in order to close and to open the recess 20 of oven 2 with the closure member 44.

[0087] FIG. 8 shows schematically an example of a fourth state of an heated tobacco device according to a second embodiment of the invention. The closure device 4 and the associated locker 5 work similarly as on FIG. 4 in order to close and to open the recess 20 of oven 2 with the closure member 44.

[0088] By a user move got by pressing on a button or on a strain gauge, or on a capacitive touch, the electromagnet 50 of locker 5 is released from the locking member 45. Once the electromagnet 50 of locker 5 has been released from the locking member 45, the lever 46 starts rotating clockwise under the weight of the mass 43, until this lever 46 reaches vertical orientation as on FIG. 1, the mass 43 being then at its lowest point. The closure member 44 will then have moved back to its open position as on FIG. 5.

[0089] The locker 5 can also be releasable by being driven by an electrical driver, the electrical driver preferably turning off electrical power supply to the locker 5, or the electrical driver preferably powering on a counter locker whose force exceeds locking force of the locker 5, the electrical driver being advantageously an electromagnet.

[0090] FIG. 9 shows schematically an example of a first state of an heated tobacco device according to a third embodiment of the invention. The closure device 4 and the associated locker 5 work similarly as on FIGS. 1 and 5, in order to close and to open the recess 20 of oven 2 with the closure member 44. The difference lies in the structure of the locker 5 and in the triggering of the locker 5 by a Hall effect sensor 7, and the presence of an electromagnet 8.

[0091] FIG. 10 shows schematically an example of a second state of an heated tobacco device according to a third embodiment of the invention. The closure device 4 and the associated locker 5 work similarly as on FIGS. 2 and 6, in order to close and to open the recess 20 of oven 2 with the closure member 44. When the mass 43 makes the closure member 44 move from the open position toward the closed position, the permanent magnet 50 attracts and blocks the locking member 45.

[0092] FIG. 11 shows schematically an example of a third state of an heated tobacco device according to a third embodiment of the invention. The closure device 4 and the associated locker 5 work similarly as on FIGS. 3 and 7, in order to close and to open the recess 20 of oven 2 with the closure member 44.

[0093] FIG. 12 shows schematically an example of a fourth state of an heated tobacco device according to a third embodiment of the invention. The closure device 4 and the associated locker 5 work similarly as on FIGS. 4 and 8, in order to close and to open the recess 20 of oven 2 with the closure member 44.

[0094] When the Hall effect sensor 7 detects the moving of the mass 43, it activates the electromagnet 8 which will repel the ferritic mass 43 with a greater force than the force of the permanent magnet 50 attracting the locking member 45. Then, the repelled mass 43 makes the closure member 44 moves from the closed position toward the open position. The closure member 44 will then have moved back to its open position as on FIG. 9.

[0095] The invention has been described with reference to preferred embodiments. However, many variations are possible within the scope of the invention.
