[0037] The terms “on,” “formed on,” and “disposed on” used in the present disclosure may mean that one layer is directly formed or disposed on another layer, or may mean that one layer is indirectly formed or disposed on another layer, i.e., there are other layers between the two layers.

[0038] It should be noted that although the terms "first," "second," etc. may be used herein to describe various parts, components, elements, regions, layers, and / or portions, these parts, components, elements, regions, layers, and / or portions should not be limited by these terms. Rather, these terms are used to distinguish one part, component, element, region, layer, and / or portion from another. Thus, for example, the first part, first member, first element, first region, first layer, and / or first portion discussed below may be referred to as a second part, second member, second element, second region, second layer, and / or second portion without departing from the teachings of the present disclosure.

[0039] In this disclosure, unless otherwise specified, the term "co-layer arrangement" refers to two layers, components, members, elements, or parts that can be formed by the same manufacturing process (e.g., patterning process, etc.), and the two layers, components, members, elements, or parts are generally formed from the same material. For example, co-layer arrangement of two or more functional layers means that these co-layered functional layers can be formed using the same material layer and the same manufacturing process, thereby simplifying the manufacturing process of the display substrate.

[0040] In this disclosure, unless otherwise specified, the expression "patterning process" generally includes steps such as photoresist coating, exposure, development, etching, and photoresist stripping. The expression "one-time patterning process" means a process of forming patterned layers, components, members, etc. using one mask.

[0041] The inventors found that the parts of the display module with relatively weak waterproof performance often appear on the sides of the display module, and water vapor can easily enter from the sides of the display module. Especially for flexible display modules, the waterproof performance of the sides cannot be guaranteed when they are in folded or curled forms.

[0042] In view of this, an embodiment of the present disclosure provides a display module, comprising a first supporting layer, a display panel and a cover plate stacked in sequence, wherein the first supporting layer comprises a main body portion and an expansion portion located around the main body portion, the orthographic projection of the display panel on the first supporting layer coincides with the main body portion, the expansion portion is located outside the edge of the orthographic projection of the display panel on the first supporting layer, and the display module further comprises a waterproof layer that covers at least the side surfaces of the display panel and a surface of the expansion portion on one side close to the display panel.

[0043] Therefore, by bonding the waterproof layer to the side of the encapsulated display panel, the waterproof performance of the display module can be improved, thereby improving the reliability of the display module. Moreover, by designing the first supporting layer on the backlight side of the display panel to have an outward expansion portion and the waterproof layer covering the surface of the side of the outward expansion portion close to the display panel, the bonding area of the waterproof layer can be increased, and the adhesion between the waterproof layer bonded to the display module and the display module can be strengthened, thereby further improving the waterproof performance of the display module while reducing the risk of peeling of the waterproof layer. The solution proposed in the present disclosure is particularly suitable for flexible display modules, and can effectively solve the problem that the waterproof performance of the side of the flexible display module cannot be guaranteed when it is in a folded, curled or other form.

[0044] Below, taking an OLED (Organic Light Emitting Device) flexible display module as an example, the display module provided by the embodiments of the present disclosure is described through Examples 1 to 4. It should be noted that the embodiments of the present disclosure are not limited thereto. For example, the display module may also be a Micro LED (Micro Light Emitting Diode) flexible display module, a Mini LED (Mini Light Emitting Diode) flexible display module, or other types of display modules.

[0045] Example 1

[0046] As shown in Figures 1 and 2, the OLED flexible display module provided in Example 1 includes a first supporting layer 101, an OLED display panel 102, and a cover plate 103, which are stacked in sequence. The first supporting layer 101 includes a main body 1011 and an expansion portion 1012 located around the main body 1011. The orthographic projection of the OLED display panel 102 on the first supporting layer 101 coincides with the main body 1011. The expansion portion 1012 is located outside the edge of the orthographic projection of the OLED display panel 102 on the first supporting layer 101. The OLED flexible display module provided in Example 1 also includes a waterproof layer 104 that covers at least the side surface of the OLED display panel 102 and the surface of the expansion portion 1012 on one side close to the OLED display panel 102. As shown in Figure 1, the dotted line 101-1 shows the edge contour line of the first supporting layer 101, or the outer edge contour line of the expansion portion 1012, wherein the outer edge of the expansion portion 1012 is the edge of the expansion portion 1012 away from the center 100 of the OLED display panel 102. As shown in FIG. 2 , the dotted line in the first supporting layer 101 is the boundary between the main body portion 1011 and the expanded portion 1012 .

[0047] Therefore, referring to FIG2 , Embodiment 1 improves the waterproof performance of the OLED flexible display module by providing a waterproof layer 104 that adheres to the side of the encapsulated OLED display panel 102, thereby improving the reliability of the OLED flexible display module. Furthermore, by providing the first support layer 101 with an outwardly extending portion 1012 and the waterproof layer 104 covering the surface of the side of the outwardly extending portion 1012 that is close to the OLED display panel 102, the bonding area of the waterproof layer 104 can be increased, thereby strengthening the adhesion or adhesion between the waterproof layer 104, for example, when adhered to the OLED flexible display module, and the OLED flexible display module, thereby further improving the waterproof performance of the OLED flexible display module while reducing the risk of the waterproof layer 104 falling off. In summary, Embodiment 1 can effectively solve the problem of the side waterproof performance of the OLED flexible display module not being guaranteed when the OLED flexible display module is in a folded or curled state.

[0048] It should be noted that the dimensions of the film layers shown in FIG1 and FIG2 are merely schematic and do not represent actual dimensions or relative proportions. The same applies to the subsequent drawings.

[0049] In the OLED flexible display module shown in Figures 1 and 2, a first supporting layer 101, which provides support and protection, is disposed on the backlight side of the OLED display panel 102, and a cover plate 103 is disposed on the light-emitting side of the OLED display panel 102. For example, the first supporting layer 101 may be a metal supporting layer, and the cover plate 103 may be a flexible cover plate made of a material such as transparent polyimide (CPI), polyethylene naphthalate (PEN), thermoplastic polyester (PET), or a composite structure formed of at least two of these materials.

[0050] Exemplarily, the OLED flexible display module shown in Figures 1 and 2 may also include a film layer structure such as a polarizer (POL) and ultra-thin glass (UTG) arranged between the OLED display panel 102 and the cover plate 103. For example, when no polarizer is provided, the cover plate 103 can be bonded to the OLED display panel 102 via optical adhesive (OCA); when a polarizer and ultra-thin glass are provided, the cover plate 103 can be bonded to the ultra-thin glass via optical adhesive, the ultra-thin glass can be bonded to the polarizer via optical adhesive, and the polarizer can be bonded to the OLED display panel 102 via optical adhesive. Among them, the thickness of the cover plate 103 (the Z-direction length of the cover plate 103, the Z direction is the vertical direction in Figure 2, that is, the direction perpendicular to the light-emitting surface of the OLED display panel 102) is, for example, 50μm-100μm, for example, the thickness of the cover plate 103 is 50μm, 66μm, 85μm, 92μm or 100μm; the thickness of the ultra-thin glass is, for example, 50μm-100μm, for example, the thickness of the ultra-thin glass is 50μm, 65μm, 82μm, 90μm or 100μm; the thickness of the optical glue is, for example, 25μm-100μm, for example, the thickness of the optical glue is 25μm, 47μm, 62μm, 83μm or 100μm. For example, the edges of the OLED display panel 102, the cover plate 103, the polarizer, the ultra-thin glass and the optical adhesive are flush, that is, the orthographic projections of the OLED display panel 102, the cover plate 103, the polarizer, the ultra-thin glass and the optical adhesive on the first supporting layer 101 are overlapped. In addition, it can also be set so that the edge of the ultra-thin glass is retracted, that is, the orthographic projections of the OLED display panel 102, the cover plate 103, the polarizer and the optical adhesive on the first supporting layer 101 are overlapped, and the edge of the orthographic projection of the ultra-thin glass on the first supporting layer 101 is located on the inner side of the edge of the orthographic projection of the OLED display panel 102 on the first supporting layer 101.

[0051] Exemplarily, the outward expansion length of the first supporting layer 101 relative to the OLED display panel 102, that is, the length of the outward expansion portion 1012 in the direction from the center 100 of the OLED display panel 102 to the edge (i.e., the X direction in FIG2 ) is set to 0.3 mm-1 mm. For example, the length of the outward expansion portion 1012 in the X direction is set to 0.3 mm, 0.5 mm, 0.75 mm, 0.88 mm or 1 mm. In this way, the waterproof performance of the OLED flexible display module can be further improved while reducing the risk of the waterproof layer 104 falling off. The length of the outward expansion portion 1012 in the X direction is set to 0.3 mm-1 mm, which comprehensively considers the design of factors including fitting tolerance, material tolerance, assembly tolerance, etc. It should be noted that the state of the OLED flexible display module shown in FIG1 and FIG2 is an unfolded planar state, and the direction from the center 100 of the OLED display panel 102 to the edge is also the direction when the OLED flexible display module is in the unfolded planar state.

[0052] In one possible implementation, as shown in FIG2 , in the OLED flexible display module provided in Example 1, the waterproof layer 104 also covers the side surfaces of the first support layer 101 and the side surfaces of the cover plate 103. The design of the waterproof layer 104 covering the side surfaces of the first support layer 101 and the side surfaces of the cover plate 103 can further enhance the bonding and encapsulation effect of the waterproof layer 104, thereby further improving the waterproof performance of the OLED flexible display module, and can reduce the risk of the waterproof layer 104 falling off by increasing the bonding area.

[0053] In one possible implementation, as shown in FIG2 , in the OLED flexible display module provided in Example 1, the waterproof layer 104 also covers the edge of the first support layer 101 surface facing away from the OLED display panel 102. The waterproof layer 104 also covers the edge of the cover plate 103 surface facing away from the OLED display panel 102. The design of the waterproof layer 104 covering the edge of the first support layer 101 surface facing away from the OLED display panel 102 and the edge of the cover plate 103 surface facing away from the OLED display panel 102 can further enhance the bonding and encapsulation effect of the waterproof layer 104, further improving the waterproof performance of the OLED flexible display module. Furthermore, the increased bonding area can reduce the risk of the waterproof layer 104 falling off. It is understood that the OLED flexible display module provided in Example 1 may also include a polarizer and ultra-thin glass disposed between the OLED display panel 102 and the cover plate 103. In this implementation, the waterproof layer 104 also covers the sides of the polarizer and ultra-thin glass.

[0054] In a possible implementation, as shown in FIG2 , in the OLED flexible display module provided in the first embodiment, the waterproof layer 104 is waterproof glue.

[0055] In a specific example, the maximum thickness of the waterproof glue is 1mm-3mm, for example, the maximum thickness of the waterproof glue is 1mm, 1.5mm, 2.1mm, 2.5mm or 3mm. The thickness of the waterproof glue is its length in the direction from the center 100 of the OLED display panel 102 to the edge (i.e., the X direction in Figure 2). Therefore, the length of the waterproof glue in the X direction is greater than the outward extension length of the first supporting layer 101 relative to the OLED display panel 102, and the waterproof glue can form a full covering structure for the side of the OLED flexible display module. Exemplary, the waterproof glue includes but is not limited to polymer materials such as silicone and organic resin.

[0056] In one possible implementation, in the OLED flexible display module provided in Example 1, the elastic modulus of the waterproof adhesive is 1 MPa-5 MPa, for example, 1 MPa, 2 MPa, 3.4 MPa, 4.2 MPa, or 5 MPa; and the elongation at break of the waterproof adhesive is greater than or equal to 400%, for example, 400%, 450%, 520%, 600%, or 680%. This ensures the stretchability and bending resistance of the waterproof adhesive. For example, a design in which the waterproof adhesive has an elastic modulus of 1 MPa-5 MPa helps ensure stable adhesion of the waterproof adhesive, ensuring that the waterproof adhesive will not fall off even if the OLED flexible display module is bent more than 10,000 times.

[0057] In a specific example, in combination with the above implementation, the method for preparing the OLED flexible display module provided in the first embodiment is as follows:

[0058] First, the cover plate is bonded to the light-emitting side of the OLED display panel using optical adhesive to obtain the structure shown in Figure 3.

[0059] Then, the structure shown in FIG3 is subjected to edge cutting such as laser cutting to obtain a structure in which the edges of the cover plate 103, the optical adhesive, and the OLED display panel 102 are flush with each other as shown in FIG4 . In FIG4 , the dotted line represents the cutting line;

[0060] Then, the flexible first supporting layer 101 is attached to the backlight side of the OLED display panel 102 to obtain the structure shown in FIG5 . In the structure shown in FIG5 , the first supporting layer 101 is expanded outward compared to the OLED display panel 102 .

[0061] Finally, a glue coating device is used to apply waterproof glue on the sides of the cover plate 103, the OLED display panel 102 and the first support layer 101 to form a waterproof glue that fully covers the sides, thereby obtaining the OLED flexible display module shown in FIG. 2 .

[0062] Example 2

[0063] 6-8 , unlike the OLED flexible display module provided in Example 1, the OLED flexible display module provided in Example 2 further includes a second supporting layer 105 disposed on a side of the first supporting layer 101 away from the OLED display panel 102. For example, the second supporting layer 105 may be a metal supporting layer.

[0064] In one possible implementation, as shown in Figures 7 and 8 , in the OLED flexible display module provided in Example 2, the waterproof layer 104 also covers the side surfaces of the first and second supporting layers 101, 105, and the side surfaces of the cover plate 103. The design of the waterproof layer 104 covering the side surfaces of the first and second supporting layers 101, 105, and the side surfaces of the cover plate 103 can further enhance the bonding and encapsulation effect of the waterproof layer 104, further improving the waterproof performance of the OLED flexible display module, and reducing the risk of the waterproof layer 104 falling off by increasing the bonding area.

[0065] In one possible implementation, as shown in Figures 7 and 8 , in the OLED flexible display module provided in Example 2, the waterproof layer 104 also covers the edge of the second supporting layer 105 surface facing away from the OLED display panel 102. The waterproof layer 104 also covers the edge of the cover plate 103 surface facing away from the OLED display panel 102. The design of the waterproof layer 104 covering the edge of the second supporting layer 105 surface facing away from the OLED display panel 102 and the edge of the cover plate 103 surface facing away from the OLED display panel 102 can further enhance the bonding and encapsulation effect of the waterproof layer 104, further improving the waterproof performance of the OLED flexible display module. Furthermore, the increased bonding area can reduce the risk of the waterproof layer 104 falling off.

[0066] In a specific example, as shown in FIG. 7 and FIG. 8 , the edges of the first supporting layer 101 and the second supporting layer 105 are flush, that is, the orthographic projections of the first supporting layer 101 and the second supporting layer 105 in the Z direction overlap.

[0067] In one possible implementation, as shown in Figures 6 and 8 , in the OLED flexible display module provided in Example 2, at least one first opening 1013 is defined at an edge of a side surface of the first supporting layer 101 near the OLED display panel 102, with the first opening 1013 partially located on the expansion portion 1012. As shown in Figure 8 , a portion of the first opening 1013 is defined in the expansion portion 1012, i.e., a portion of the first opening 1013 is defined at an edge of the main body 1011, while another portion is defined at an inner edge of the expansion portion 1012. The inner edge of the expansion portion 1012 is the edge of the expansion portion 1012 near the center 100 of the OLED display panel 102. In Figure 6 , the dashed line 1013-1 represents the edge contour of the first opening 1013.

[0068] Therefore, when applying the waterproof glue, the fluid waterproof glue can flow in from the upper side of the first opening 1013 and fill the first opening 1013, so that the waterproof glue contacts the first support layer 101 at least inside the first opening 1013, increasing the contact area between the waterproof glue and the first support layer 101, thereby further improving the waterproof performance of the OLED flexible display module while reducing the risk of the waterproof glue falling off.

[0069] In a specific example, as shown in FIG6 , a plurality of first openings 1013 arranged along the Y direction are respectively provided in the four corner regions of the roughly rectangular first support layer 101, wherein the Y direction is a direction perpendicular to the X direction in a plane parallel to the OLED display panel 102, and the spacing between adjacent first openings 1013 is set to 1 mm to 10 mm, for example, the spacing between adjacent first openings 1013 is set to 1 mm, 3 mm, 5 mm, 7.5 mm, or 10 mm. It should be noted that the distribution, arrangement, and number of the first openings 1013 shown in FIG6 are for illustration only and can be adjusted according to factors such as the display module size, film thickness, preparation process accuracy, and the fluidity of the waterproof adhesive.

[0070] In one possible implementation, for example, as shown in FIG8 , the first opening 1013 is a blind hole, and the depth of the blind hole is 30%-50% of the thickness of the first supporting layer 101 . For example, the depth of the blind hole is 30%, 35%, 40%, 44% or 50% of the thickness of the first supporting layer 101 .

[0071] In a specific example, the distance between the outer edge of the first opening 1013 and the edge of the first support layer 101 (the edge of the first support layer 101, i.e. the outer edge of the expansion portion 1012) is, for example, 0.1mm-0.5mm, for example, set to 0.1mm, 0.2mm, 0.35mm, 0.42mm or 0.5mm.

[0072] In a possible implementation, the shape of the first opening is rectangular, circular or elliptical. Not limited to the above shapes, those skilled in the art can select its shape according to actual conditions. For example, as shown in FIG6 , the shape of the first opening 1013 is rectangular.

[0073] In a possible implementation, the longitudinal section of the first opening is rectangular or trapezoidal. For example, as shown in FIG8 , the longitudinal section of the first opening 1013 is rectangular.

[0074] In one possible implementation, the first support layer 101 is further provided with a second opening, which is a through hole (not shown in the figure), and the first opening 1013 is the same size as the second opening. The first support layer 101 includes an opening area and a flat plate area. The second opening is an opening for enhancing bending performance to improve the stretchability and bending resistance of the first support layer 101. The second opening is located in the opening area of the first support layer 101, while the first opening 1013 added in the above implementation is opened in the flat plate area of the first support layer 101. The design of the first opening 1013 and the second opening having the same size is conducive to ensuring the stability of the hole opening process, such as etching, and also facilitates the simultaneous opening of the first opening 1013 and the second opening in the same hole opening process to simplify the process.

[0075] Example 3

[0076] As shown in Figures 9-11, unlike the OLED flexible display module provided in Example 2, the first opening 1013 is a through hole, the edge of the orthographic projection of the second supporting layer 105 on the first supporting layer 101 is located inward of the edge of the orthographic projection of the OLED display panel 102 on the first supporting layer 101, and the edge of the orthographic projection of the second supporting layer 105 on the first supporting layer 101 is located outside the inner edge of the first opening 1013, wherein the inner edge of the first opening 1013 is the edge of the first opening 1013 close to the center 100 of the OLED display panel 102. In other words, the first supporting layer 101 is outwardly expanded compared to the OLED display panel 102, while the second supporting layer 105 is inwardly contracted compared to the OLED display panel 102, and the inward contraction of the second supporting layer 105 does not exceed the inner edge of the first opening 1013.

[0077] Thus, when applying the waterproof adhesive, the fluid waterproof adhesive can flow from the upper and lower sides of the first opening 1013 to fill the first opening 1013, allowing the waterproof adhesive to contact the first support layer 101 and the second support layer 105 within the first opening 1013, respectively. This increases the contact area between the waterproof adhesive and the first and second support layers 101 and 105, thereby further improving the waterproof performance of the OLED flexible display module while reducing the risk of the waterproof adhesive falling off. Furthermore, the design of the second support layer 105 not retracting beyond the inner edge of the first opening 1013 ensures support at the module edge.

[0078] For example, the length of the first opening 1013 in the direction from the center to the edge of the OLED display panel 102 (i.e., the X direction in FIG11 ) is 2.6 mm ± 0.3 mm, which is a setting taking into account factors including fitting tolerance and dimensional tolerance. The distance between the outer edge of the first opening 1013 and the edge of the first supporting layer 101 (the edge of the first supporting layer 101, i.e., the outer edge of the expansion portion 1012) is, for example, 0.1 mm to 0.5 mm, for example, 0.1 mm, 0.2 mm, 0.35 mm, 0.42 mm, or 0.5 mm. Taking into account factors such as lamination tolerance, material tolerance, and assembly tolerance, the outward extension length of the first support layer 101 relative to the OLED display panel 102 is 0.3mm-1mm. The outward extension length of the first support layer 101 relative to the OLED display panel 102 is set to 0.3mm, 0.5mm, 0.75mm, 0.88mm, or 1mm. Taking into account factors such as lamination tolerance, processing tolerance, and the fluidity of the waterproof adhesive, the inward retraction length of the second support layer 105 relative to the OLED display panel 102 is set to 0.75mm±0.3mm. The above-mentioned dimensional parameter design ensures that the fluid waterproof adhesive can flow from the upper and lower sides of the first opening 1013 to fill the first opening 1013, so that the waterproof adhesive contacts the first support layer 101 and the second support layer 105 within the first opening 1013, respectively, increasing the contact area between the waterproof adhesive and the first support layer 101 and the second support layer 105, thereby further improving the waterproof performance of the OLED flexible display module while reducing the risk of the waterproof adhesive falling off. Furthermore, the second supporting layer 105 is designed to not shrink beyond the inner edge of the first opening 1013 , thereby ensuring support at the edge of the module.

[0079] Example 4

[0080] As shown in FIG12 , different from the OLED flexible display module provided in the first embodiment, in the fourth embodiment, the waterproof layer 104 is a waterproof tape.

[0081] For example, as shown in Figure 12, the waterproof tape covers the edge of the side surface of the cover plate 103 away from the OLED display panel 102, the side of the cover plate 103, the side of the OLED display panel 102 and the side surface of the expansion portion 1012 close to the OLED display panel 102.

[0082] In addition, the waterproof tape can also cover the side of the first supporting layer 101 and the side of the cover plate 103. The waterproof tape can also cover the edge of the side surface of the first supporting layer 101 away from the OLED display panel 102 and the edge of the side surface of the cover plate 103 away from the OLED display panel 102.
