[0003] The present invention relates to a stable synergistic insecticidal composition comprising A) compound of Formula I, chemically known as 5-amino-l-(2,6-dichloro-a,a,a-trifluoro-p- tolyl)-4-[(RS)-(trifluoromethyl)sulfinyl]-lH-pyrazole-3-carbonitrile or its agrochemically acceptable salts, esters and derivatives; B) Abamectin or its agrochemically acceptable salts, esters and derivatives; and C) compound of Formula II, chemically known as 4-chloro-3- ethyl-l-methyl-N-[4-(p-tolyloxy)benzyl]-lH-pyrazole-5-carboxamide or its agrochemically acceptable salts, esters and derivatives, for synergistic and effective control of various insect pests including sucking pests complex. The present invention also relates to a process for preparation of such insecticidal composition for synergistic and efficacious control of insect pests including entire sucking pests complex.
[0004] BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0005] Background description includes information that may be useful in understanding the present invention. It is not an admission that any of the information provided herein is prior art or relevant to the presently claimed invention.
[0006] Insect pests are one of the worst enemies of crops. They cause severe damages to the crops resulting in reduced crop productivity. In heavily infested areas 80 to 90 percent crop damages has been reported. In agrarian countries like India, it badly impacts the economy of the country. Controlling crop pest population has been a major issue and various traditional and advanced means are being used to minimize the damage caused by insect pests. Insects are very destructive to crops and can result in significant loss of crop yield and quality, which results in economic loss to the grower and increased cost to the consumer. Combinations of insecticides are typically used to broaden the spectrum of insect control, to minimize the doses of chemicals used, to retard resistance development and to reduce the cost of treatment through additive effect. Most frequently and widely used method to control insect pests is use of insecticides / pesticides. Continuous use of pesticides and insecticides years after years, in uncontrolled and unscientific manner has resulted in development of resistance in insect pests.
[0007] Continuous high intensity use of insecticides and pesticides has given rise to some other critical issues like presence of high quantity of insecticide residues in agricultural products, increasing environmental pollution and damage to ecological balance and deteriorating health of consumers. With the onset of resistance to certain insect pests, there is a need in the art for a combination of actives that decrease the chances of resistance and improves the spectrum of disease and pest control.
[0008] Thus, it is always preferable to be able to reduce the amount of chemical agents released into the environment while still ensuring effective pest control. Although various insect control agent combinations have been studied, a high synergistic action has not always been found. There is however a need for improvement of these combinations. Single and binary active compositions used over a long period of time has resulted in resistance.
[0009] Insecticidal compositions that can be applied at as low a dose as possible and be effective in controlling pest species of insects while causing as little harm as possible to beneficial insects and minimal disturbance in the environment are in demand by the farming community. Although, many combinations of insecticidal agents have been studied, a synergistic effect is rarely attained. Therefore, there is still a need for novel insecticidal compositions comprising combination of insecticides which have different chemistry, different mode of action but are broad spectrum to cover efficacious control of large number of insect pests including sucking pests complex, which also exhibit synergistically enhanced action (are synergistic), a broader scope of activity at a reduced cost of treatment and at low doses.
[0010] Insecticide compounds are often applied in the form of a dilute aqueous composition in order to achieve a good interaction with the target organism, such as plants, and insects. As most active compounds that are used as pesticides, in particular insecticide active compounds, are only sparingly or even insoluble in water, in most of the cases, formulators are often confronted with difficulties in formulating pesticide compounds in stable formulations.
[0011] Therefore, there is a need for an insecticidal formulation, composition that is highly efficient, non- toxic, covers a broader spectrum of insects and is environment friendly and economical. Accordingly, there exists a continuous need for new insecticidal combinations to be applied so as to provide an economical and effective solution in terms of insect control, yield, plant growth, broader crop protection spectrum, reduce the burden on the environment / farmers, healthy foliage, saves labour cost and is yet cost-effective to the end user.
[0012] Various kinds of agrochemical formulations are developed based upon active ingredients and scope of application thereof. Insecticides for agriculture purpose are available both in the pure form and as well as incorporated into agrochemical formulations, which typically comprise one or more active ingredients and additional excipients substances that enhance the effects and facilitate the application thereof, such as carriers, adjuvants or additives. The various types of agrochemical formulations are the result of the existence of a large variety of active ingredients of different chemical natures.
[0013] There are various prior arts which disclose compositions comprising combination of insecticide actives having Abamectin combined with other insecticides. Some of such prior arts are listed below:
[0014] IN 227 / CHENP / 2013 which discloses a method for the synergistic plant nematode control in sugar cane with a mixture of fipronil and abamectin comprising fipronil and abamectin in a ratio by weight of from 1: 10 to 10: 1, wherein the mixture is applied to sugar cane in furrow.
[0015] CN101653129 discloses a pesticide composition which comprises a) tolfenpyrad and b) abamectin insecticide as active ingredients, and the weight ratio of a) and b) is 100: 1-1 : 100.
[0016] Various phenylpyrazole insecticides are known in the art. Each of the phenylpyrazole insecticide has different effective activity against insect pests. Out of the known phenylpyrazole insecticides, the compound of Formula I, chemically known as 5 -amino- 1- (2,6-dichloro-a,a,a-trifluoro-p-tolyl)-4-[(RS)-(trifluoromethyl)sulfmyl]-lFI-pyrazole-3- carbonitrile, has shown to have better insect pest control in comparison to other phenylpyrazole insecticides. The compound of Formula I is represented by the following chemical structure:
[0017] Compound of Formula I The compound i.e. 5-amino-l-(2,6-dichloro-a,a,a-trifluoro-p-tolyl)-4-[(RS)-
[0018] (trifluoromethyl)sulfmyl]-lH-pyrazole-3-carbonitrile shall be referred to as compound of Formula I in the entire specification and shall be meant to refer to this compound which has this IUPAC name and structure as mentioned herein above.
[0019] Compound of Formula I is a highly active, broad-spectrum use insecticide that belongs to the phenylpyrazole chemical family. Compound of Formula I selectively acts by blocking the GABA-gated chloride channels of neurons in the central nervous system and causes neural excitation and convulsions in insects, resulting in death of insect pest. The net result of insect exposure to compound of Formula I is blockade of inhibitory nerve transmission, resulting in hyper excitability and death of susceptible parasites.
[0020] Abamectin (CAS Registry No.71751-41-2) belongs to Avermectin class of insecticides, acaricides, nematicides. It is a bridge fused ring system and is a mixture of 80- 100%(2aE,4E,8E)-(5'S,6S,6'R,7S,l lR,13S,15S,17aR,20R,20aR,20bS)-6'-[(S)-sec-butyl] 5', 6, 6', 7, 10, 11, 14, 15,17a,20,20a,20b-dodecahydro-20,20b-dihydroxy-5 ',6,8,19-tetramethyl- 17 -oxospiro [11,15 -methano-2H, 13H, 17H-furo[4,3 ,2-pq] [2,6]benzodioxacyclooctadecin- 13,2'-[2H]pyran]-7-yl2,6-dideoxy-4-O-(2,6-dideoxy-3-O-methyl-a-L-arabino- hexopyranosyl)-3-O-methyl-a-L-arabino-hexopyranoside and 20-0% (2aE,4E,8E)-

Abamectin is actually a mixture of 80% Avermectin Bia and 20% Avermectin Bib. Abamectin has the structure provided below:
[0022]
[0023] OH
[0024] Abamectin stimulates the gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) system, a chemical transmitter” produced at nerve endings, which inhibits both nerve to nerve and nerve to muscle communication. The affected insect becomes paralyzed, stops feeding, and dies after a few days. Abamectin is a product with insecticidal, acaricidal and nematicidal activities and is widely applied to the agricultural field. Abamectin has contact killing effects on mites and insects. Abamectin can quickly decompose and dissipate when sprayed on the leaf surface, and the active ingredients that penetrate into the plant parenchyma tissue can exist in the tissue for a long time and have a conductive effect, thereby having a long residual effectiveness on pest mites and insects that feed on the plant tissues. Abamectin is mainly directed at endo- and ecto-parasites of poultry and livestock and crop pests, such as parasitic red insects, Diptera, Coleoptera, Lepidoptera and pest mites.
[0025] Various pyrazole insecticides are known in the art. Each of the pyrazole insecticide has different effective activity against insect pests. Out of the known pyrazolecarboxamide insecticides, the compound of Formula II, chemically known as 4-chloro-3-ethyl-l-methyl-N- [4-(p-tolyloxy)benzyl]-lH-pyrazole-5-carboxamide, has shown to have better insect pest control in comparison to other pyrazolecarboxamide insecticides. The compound of Formula II is represented by the following chemical structure:
[0026] Compound of Formula II
[0027] The compound i.e. 4-chloro-3-ethyl-l-methyl-N-[4-(p-tolyloxy)benzyl]-lH-pyrazole-5- carboxamide shall be referred to as compound of Formula II in the entire specification and shall be meant to refer to this compound which has this IUPAC name and structure as mentioned herein above.
[0028] The compound of Formula II has broad spectrum, contact activity, exhibits anti-feedant activity especially against Lepidoptera and acts as mitochondrial complex I electron transport inhibitor by inhibiting insect's energy metabolism and can also acts as a contact fungicide. This insecticide acts on all stages of insect pests from egg to adult stage and has excellent know-down effect.
[0029] Combining insecticides with different mode of action shows compatibility issues among them and thus formulating a stable synergistic composition which provide efficacious synergistic results against various insect pests is a tedious task. Because the efficacy and chemical stability of the active ingredients and physical stability of the formulated composition may be affected by inert ingredients in the formulation, suitable inert ingredients should not cause decomposition of the active ingredient, substantially diminish its activity on application, or cause appreciable precipitation or crystal formation upon long term storage. Furthermore, inert ingredients should be non-phytotoxic and environmentally safe. Inert ingredients of formulations intended for dilution with water before application should be easily dissolved or dispersed in water.
[0030] For the reasons mentioned above, there exist a need to provide a synergistic insecticidal composition for synergistic and effective control of insect pests including sucking pests complex.
[0031] The present invention satisfies the existing needs, as well as others, and generally overcomes the deficiencies found in the prior art.
[0032] The present invention composition is synergistic, efficacious, environmentally friendly, simple to formulate, stable and is safe to use.

[0146] Extender or sticker / sticking agent keeps pesticide active on a target for an extended period or on waxy foliage. Sticker allows pesticides to stay on a treated surface longer. Some stickers help to hold solid particles to a treated surfaces. This reduces the amount that washes off due to rain or irrigation. Others reduce evaporation and / or slow breakdown by sunlight. Spreader allows a pesticide to form a uniform layer over a treated surface. Spreaders such as Silicone Ethoxylated Oil lowers the surface tension of spray solutions beyond that which is achievable with conventional non-ionic surfactants. In fact, it has the potential to provide adequate coverage in many low volume spray applications at rates between 0.025% and 0. 1%. It decreases the surface tension of spray solutions to much lower values, in comparison to conventional adjuvants. This results in significantly enhanced spreading of spray solutions over the treated plant surfaces which carries tank mix products to morphologically complex and thus difficult-to-reach parts of the plant.
[0147] In another embodiment of the present invention, the insecticidal composition of the present invention further comprises organosilicone surfactants as spreading and sticking agents.

[0183] Evaluation of synergistic effect of insecticidal composition of the present invention
[0184] A synergistic effect exists wherever the action of a combination of active ingredient is greater than the sum of the action of each of the components alone. Therefore, a synergistically effective amount or an effective amount of a synergistic composition or combination is an amount that exhibits greater pesticidal activity than the sum of the pesticidal activities of the individual components. Synergism was calculated by using Colby’s method (Weeds, vol. 15 No. 1 (Jan 1967), pp. 20-2.
[0185] The synergistic action expected for a given combination of three active components can be calculated as follows: (XY+YZ+XZ) (XYZ)
[0186] E = (X + Y + Z) - - + -
[0187] 100 10000
[0188] Where:
[0189] E represents expected percentage of pesticidal control for the combination of the two or three active ingredients at defined doses (for example equal to x, y and z, respectively).
[0190] X is the percentage of pesticidal control observed by the Compound of Formula I [5-amino-l- (2,6-dichloro-a,a,a-trifluoro-p-tolyl)-4-[(RS)-(trifluoromethyl)sulfmyl]-lH-pyrazole-3- carbonitrile] (herein after “Compound of Formula I”) at a defined dose (equal to x).
[0191] Y is the percentage of pesticidal control observed by Abamectin at a defined dose (equal to y).
[0192] Z is the percentage of pesticidal control observed by the Compound of Formula II [4-chloro- 3-ethyl-l-methyl-N-[4-(p-tolyloxy)benzyl]-lH-pyrazole-5-carboxamide] (herein after “Compound of Formula II”) at a defined dose (equal to z).
[0193] When the percentage of pesticidal control observed for the combination is greater than the expected percentage, there is a synergism effect.
[0194] Observed control (%)
[0195] Ratio = -
[0196] Expected control (%)
[0197] Ratio of O / E > 1, synergism observed
[0198] In the Colby method, if the observed response / control of the combination is greater than the expected (or predicted) response / control, or stated conversely, if the difference between the observed and expected response is greater than zero, then the combination is said to be synergistic or unexpectedly effective, (Colby, S. R,: 25 Weeds, 1967(15), p. 20-22}.
[0199] The present invention is illustrated by way of examples, the examples are meant for illustrative purposes and should not be construed as limiting in any manner.
[0200] Experiment for Synergistic activity of insecticidal composition of present invention:
[0201] Example 1- Details of experiment on Chilli crop: Experiment for synergistic activity of compound of Formula I, Abamectin and compound of Formula II for the control of Thrips (Scirtothrips dorsalis) in Chilli crop was conducted under controlled greenhouse conditions at Baghpat District, Uttar Pradesh.
[0202] Chilli planting: Plastic pots of 30-liter capacity were used for planting. Pots were filled with compost: soil: sand soil mix in the ratio of 2: 1: 1 upto height of 16 cm and watered as required. Chilli Variety "Kashi Amari” seedlings were planted in the pots @ 10 seeds per pot on 26.07.2022. Twenty-five days after planting each plant was infested by ten thrips at pupae or adult stage obtained from local nearby fields.
[0203] To evaluate the synergistic effect, total twenty-eight (28) treatments (27 insecticides and 1 water spray) were used in the trial. The treatments were applied as foliar spray @ 750 ml / ha. Pots with chilli seedlings infested as described above were arranged in an area of 5 m x 5 m (25 m2) in the greenhouse. The amount of insecticides required to spray 25 m2was calculated and calibrated. Required quantity of all the insecticides from T1 to T27 were mixed in water as per recommendations. Applications were mixed with 1.25 L of water and the solution was sprayed until the sprayer was empty. Each insecticide solution was added to a hand held sprayer fitted with hollow cone nozzle and sprayed on the plants in pots. Plants treated with water were included as a control. Application of insecticide spray was performed as single directed application. The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design (CRD) with three replications.
[0204] Ten days after each of the insecticide applications, the numbers of live adult and pupae were counted in the treated plants and untreated control plants.
[0205]
[0206] The data thus obtained were analyzed from five plants per replication.
[0207] Post-treatment thrips population were recorded at suitable intervals (10 days) after pray from five plants each replication with three leaves each plant (one from bottom, one from middle and one from top) and mean % population reduction is calculated. Corrected % reduction (Observed Control) over control was worked out using below formula.
[0208] Corrected % reduction =
[0209] (No. ofthrips in Treatment)
[0210] (No. of thrips in Control)
[0211] Based on % reduction against control in solo treatments the Expected control was calculated and compared with Observed control. The results of the trial have been presented here under in Table 1.
[0212] Table 1: Synergistic effect of composition of present invention (Compound of Formula I + Abamectin + Compound of Formula II) against Thrips population in Chilli crop
[0213] It is clearly evident from the data shown in above Table 1 for per cent Thrips control in Chilli crop that the ternary composition of the present invention comprising Compound of Formula I, Abamectin and Compound of Formula II i.e. T1 to T4 are highly synergistic with > 1 Colby’s Ratio. The binary combination of two insecticides Compound of Formula I + Abamectin (T5 to T8), Compound of Formula I + Compound of Formula II (T9 to T12) and Abamectin + Compound of Formula II (T13 to T16) are compatible but non-synergistic for the control of Thrips as compared to ternary combination of Compound of Formula I, Abamectin and Compound of Formula II. The binary combinations of two insecticides are thus less effective to control Thrips as compared to ternary combination of three insecticides i.e. Compound of Formula 1+ Abamectin + Compound of Formula II (T1 to T4). Among four treatments of ternary combination of three insecticides i.e. Compound of Formula 1+ Abamectin + Compound of Formula II, T3 with ratio 7% + 1.25% + 15% showed highest synergy with optimum control of thrips.
[0214] Experiment for Bio-efficacy evaluation of composition of present invention:
[0215] The ternary composition of present invention was evaluated evaluation under field conditions. The comparator composition was the basic test composition as Compound of Formula I : 18.87 % w / w SC, Abamectin 1.9% EC and Compound of Formula II : 15% EC available in the market. For ternary composition of present invention, Compound of Formula 1:7% + Abamectin 1.25% + Compound of Formula II : 15% SC was used. The solo formulations of Compound of Formula I: 18.87 % w / w SC, Abamectin 1.9% EC and Compound of Formula II : 15% EC along with binary combination formulation Chlorantraniliprole 4.3%+Abamectin 1.7% SC and solo formulation Emamectin Benzoate 5% SG available in the market were used for comparison.
[0216] Example 2: Evaluation of the composition of the present invention on Chilli
[0217] The synergistic composition of the present invention Compound of Formula I 7% + Abamectin 1.25% + Compound of Formula II 15% SC along with different binary combinations and solo formulation were evaluated on Chilli crop variety Super -10. The experiment was conducted at a farmer field, Sirisi (Karnataka) following Randomized Block Design (RBD) with three replications and maintaining a distance of 75 cm x 45 cm between plants and rows. The application of treatments was started with the insect incidence over economic threshold level (ETL) incidence on the crop in experimental plots and repeat application was done after 15 days.
[0218] The observations were recorded for the following objectives.
[0219] Objectives:
[0220] 1. To determine the efficacy of synergistic ternary composition of present invention against Thrips and Mites in Chilli crop and its impact on fruit yield increase.
[0221] 2. To observe phytotoxicity, if any on Chilli.

[0240] Methodology:
[0241] All the treatments were imposed by high volume knapsack sprayer fitted with hollow cone nozzle on insect incidence over economic threshold level on Chilli plants. During the study period, two sprays were given at 15 days interval. Observation on number of thrips and mites were taken at seven and fourteen days after the application on ten plants per treatment per replication and mean is presented after each spray. Corrected % reduction (Observed Control) over control was worked out.
[0242] The crop yield was recorded at each harvest and cumulative dried chilli yield has been expressed as q / ha.
[0243] Based on treatment application cost, market price of produce and net profit, the Cost: Benefit Ratio was calculated for the economics of ternary combination treatments.
[0244] The observations for phyto-toxicity symptoms on Chilli crop at 1, 3, 7 and 10 days after each spray were also recorded.
[0245] The data were subjected to statistically analysis of variance. Results are presented in Tables 2 to 5. Results:
[0246] The results for thrips and mites incidence on Chilli crop recorded during the experimental period and per cent reduction over untreated control are summarized in Table 2 and 3. The data on yield is presented in Table 4. The observations recorded for phytotoxicity symptom is presented in Table 5.
[0247] Table 2: Field bio-efficacy evaluation of synergistic composition against Thrips in Chilli crop
[0248] Figures in parentheses are sq root transformed values; NS - Non significant Table 3: Field bio-efficacy evaluation of synergistic composition against Mites in Chilli crop
[0249] Figures in parentheses are sq root transformed values; NS - Non significant Table 4: Field bio-efficacy evaluation of synergistic composition on dried chilli yield and Cost: Benefit Ratio in Chilli
[0250] Table 5: Phytotoxicity evaluation of synergistic composition on Chilli plants From the examples, it evident that the synergistic composition of the present invention is better in protecting Chilli crop from thrips and mites (Table 2 and 3) in comparison to registered solo formulations available in market and other market standard products comprising Compound of Formula I 18.87 % w / w SC, Abamectin 1.9% EC, Compound of Formula II 15% EC, Chlorantraniliprole 4.3% +Abamectin 1.7% SC and Emamectin Benzoate 5% SG at mentioned dosage levels.
[0251] The yield of dried Chilli fruit also improved in the ternary combination of Compound of Formula I 7% + Abamectin 1.25% + Compound of Formula II 15% SC as compared to binary and solo components (Table 4). One of the reasons of higher crop yield may be due to better control of target insects. The Cost: Benefit Ratio revealed that ternary composition @ 750 ml / ha was most economical with higher Cost: Benefit Ratio followed by 800 ml / ha and
[0252] 700 ml / ha dose formulation as compared to other binary and solo treatments (Table 4).
[0253] The disclosed combination Compound of Formula I 7% + Abamectin 1.25% + Compound of Formula II 15% SC @ all the doses further showed no phytotoxicity in the Chilli crop after 1, 3, 7 and 10 days after each spray (Table 5). It is evident from the above tables of examples that the exemplary composition of the present invention i.e. combination of Compound of Formula I 7% + Abamectin 1.25% + Compound of Formula II 15% SC resulted in efficient control of thrips and mites with higher yield as compared to the reference standard products (binary compositions and solo products). The Cost: Benefit Ratio also showed that ternary combination Compound of Formula I + Abamectin + Compound of Formula II in different formulations types was most economical with higher Cost: Benefit Ratio as compared to other binary and solo products available in market.
[0254] From the foregoing data, it is evident that the composition of present invention is stable and synergistically efficacious.
