AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

The existing optical fiber end face polishing devices face challenges in automating the replacement of polishing discs due to strong intermolecular forces between the polishing liquid and the turntable, leading to excessive stress on the polishing disc and potential damage during attachment and detachment.

Method used

A polishing disc attachment/detachment mechanism featuring recesses on the turntable and claw members with a radial actuator, which allows for controlled lifting and positioning of the polishing disc, utilizing a reaction force receiving surface to support the disc and prevent excessive stress, enabling smooth removal without damaging the disc or the turntable.

Benefits of technology

Facilitates the automation of optical fiber end face polishing by allowing for the safe and efficient removal of polishing discs, reducing the risk of damage and ensuring proper detachment without applying excessive stress, thus promoting a simple and cost-effective automation process.

Abstract

[Problem] To provide an attaching / detaching mechanism for a polishing board with which it is possible to smoothly remove a polishing board from a turntable with a simple configuration and without applying excessive stress to the polishing board. [Solution] A turntable 1 comprises: recesses 12 that are provided at an interval in the circumferential direction such that a lower edge 3c of a polishing board 3c placed on the turntable 1 is exposed; claw members 13 liftable with respect to the turntable 1 so as to be inserted into and removed from the recesses 12; and an actuator 14 for moving the claw members 13 to the inside and outside in the radial direction of the turntable 1. A reaction force receiving surface 13a in contact with a bottom surface 12a of the recess 12 when the claw member 13 is inserted into the recess 12 is formed at a lower end of the claw member 13, and a riding-on surface 13b for allowing the polishing board 3 to move away from the turntable 1 when the claw member 13 is moved inward in the radial direction is formed at the claw member 13 at a position higher than the reaction force receiving surface 13a in an inclined manner so as to becoming higher from the inside in the radial direction to the outside.
