Abstract
Description
Aluminum electrolytic cell lining material and preparation method thereof, aluminum electrolytic cell
[0001] CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS
[0002] This application claims priority to Chinese patent application No. 202310823848.3 filed on July 6, 2023, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference. Technical Field
[0003] The present disclosure relates to the field of aluminum industry, and in particular to aluminum electrolysis. Background Art
[0004] Fly ash, the fine dust collected from the flue gases after coal combustion, is the primary solid waste emitted by coal-fired power plants. Coal-fired power plants emit 80 million tons of fly ash annually, requiring 300,000 mu (approximately 1,000 acres) of land for storage. Large quantities of fly ash accumulate in ash yards, containing toxic chemicals and possessing a fine particle size. Poor management can easily generate large amounts of dust, polluting the atmosphere, water systems, and groundwater. While the development of my country's comprehensive solid waste utilization industry has resulted in over 100 mature technologies for fly ash utilization, and the utilization rate has been increasing year by year, the actual utilization rate remains below 50%.
[0005] Industrial aluminum reduction cells are the primary equipment for aluminum electrolysis. Their cathode is a cradle-like steel shell, with insulation, heat-insulating materials, an impermeable layer, and carbon materials inside, collectively referred to as the bottom lining. Currently, commonly used insulation and heat-insulating materials include clay bricks, asbestos boards, calcium silicate boards, aluminum silicate boards, diatomaceous earth bricks, alumina, various nano-insulation boards, and refractory particles.
[0006] Analysis, testing, and practical applications have proven that refractory bricks made from fly ash meet relevant standards, with key performance parameters such as thermal conductivity meeting the requirements for insulation materials. However, due to the inherent properties of fly ash, its proportion in refractory or insulation bricks is relatively low, generally not exceeding 50%. Furthermore, the bricks require mixing, molding, high-temperature firing, and special curing before they can be used. Therefore, fly ash poses a challenge when used in aluminum electrolytic cell linings.

[0016] To make the objectives, technical solutions, and advantages of the embodiments of the present disclosure more clear, the technical solutions in the embodiments of the present disclosure will be clearly and completely described below in conjunction with the accompanying drawings. Obviously, the described embodiments are part of the embodiments of the present disclosure, not all of the embodiments. All other embodiments obtained by ordinary technicians in this field based on the embodiments of the present disclosure without making any creative efforts shall fall within the scope of protection of the present disclosure.
[0017] Unless otherwise specified, the terms used herein should be understood as having the same meaning as commonly used in the art. Therefore, unless otherwise defined, all technical and scientific terms used herein have the same meaning as commonly understood by one of ordinary skill in the art to which this disclosure belongs. In the event of any conflict, the present specification shall take precedence.
[0018] Unless otherwise specified, various raw materials, reagents, instruments and equipment used in the present disclosure can be purchased from the market or prepared by existing methods.
[0019] Currently, there are technical problems such as inconvenience in using fly ash when applied to the lining of aluminum electrolytic cells.
[0020] In a first aspect, according to some embodiments of the present disclosure, there is provided an aluminum electrolysis cell lining material, wherein the aluminum electrolysis cell lining material comprises, in parts by mass:
[0021] 10-25 parts of first fly ash particles, wherein the particle size of the first fly ash particles is no greater than 10 mm and greater than 3 mm;
[0022] 10-30 parts of the second fly ash particles, the particle size of the first fly ash particles is not greater than 3 mm and greater than 1 mm;
[0023] 10-50 parts of third fly ash particles, the particle size of the first fly ash particles is not greater than 1 mm and greater than 0.05 mm; and
[0024] 20-30 parts of the fourth fly ash particles, the particle size of the first fly ash particles is not greater than 0.05 mm.
[0025] Those skilled in the art will understand that fly ash is composed of granules of varying sizes and shapes, with a particle size of 1-100 μm, 60% of which is less than 20 μm, D90 of which is approximately 65.3 μm, and a specific surface area of 0.25-0.5 m 2 / g, is a mixture of crystalline minerals and amorphous minerals. The main chemical components of fly ash are SiO2, Al2O3, FeO, Fe2O3, CaO, TiO2, etc., of which SiO2 and Al2O3 account for more than 60%. Aluminum and silicon elements exist in the form of glass, which is mostly spherical with a smooth surface and good sphericity. Analysis, testing and application practice have proved that refractory bricks made of fly ash as raw material can meet the relevant standards, and their key performance parameters such as thermal conductivity meet the requirements of thermal insulation materials. However, due to the characteristics of fly ash itself, its proportion in refractory bricks or thermal insulation bricks is relatively low, generally not exceeding 50%, and it needs to be mixed, molded, fired at high temperature, and subjected to special curing processes before it can be used.
[0026] According to some embodiments of the present disclosure, the aluminum electrolytic cell lining material includes fly ash particles of various sizes, which can be directly prepared by granulation and sintering, and the preparation is relatively simple; when used, it is directly laid in the aluminum electrolytic cell, and the construction is simple; it is used after laying, and presents a powder form on a macro scale, and even if some fly ash particles are broken in a complex electrolytic working environment due to the lack of complex maintenance, it does not affect its function; the main component of the aluminum electrolytic cell lining material is fly ash, so more fly ash can be consumed, the total utilization rate of fly ash is improved, and the pollution of fly ash to the environment is reduced.
[0027] Furthermore, in some embodiments of the present disclosure, by making the aluminum electrolysis cell lining material into a powder, it reacts with the electrolyte in the aluminum electrolysis process to form a relatively dense barrier layer, preventing further electrolyte penetration. In other words, the aluminum electrolysis cell lining material can replace the impermeable layer.
[0028] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, by making the particle size of the first fly ash particles less than or equal to 10 mm and greater than 3 mm, the content of the first fly ash particles in the lining material of the aluminum electrolytic cell is 10-25 parts; the particle size of the second fly ash particles is less than or equal to 3 mm and greater than 1 mm, the content of the second fly ash particles in the lining material of the aluminum electrolytic cell is 10-30 parts; the particle size of the third fly ash particles is less than or equal to 1 mm and greater than 0.05 mm, the content of the third fly ash particles in the lining material of the aluminum electrolytic cell is 10-50 parts; the particle size of the fourth fly ash particles is less than or equal to 0.05 mm, the content of the fourth fly ash particles in the lining material of the aluminum electrolytic cell is 20-30 parts; the electrolytic cell prepared using the aluminum electrolytic cell lining material can obtain a suitable thermal insulation effect and is easy to construct on site. It's easy to understand that by varying the fly ash particle size range and content in the aluminum electrolytic cell lining material, the material can be made to have good fluidity, facilitating construction. It can also provide a compact structure with minimal voids, thereby ensuring the thermal insulation performance of the aluminum electrolytic cell lining. If the overall particle size of the aluminum electrolytic cell lining material is too large, the voids between the fly ash particles will be too large, affecting the thermal insulation performance. If the overall particle size of the aluminum electrolytic cell lining material is too small, the fly ash particles will have poor fluidity and may stick together, making construction difficult.
[0029] As an example, the aluminum electrolytic cell lining material can be used in the following way: the aluminum electrolytic cell lining material is laid at the corresponding position in the electrolytic cell, leveled with a template, compacted with a vibrator, and the surface is horizontal after compaction. The plane tolerance of the aluminum electrolytic cell lining is within ±4mm, and the height tolerance is within ±3mm.
[0030] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, by rationally designing the particle size distribution of fly ash particles, the lining material of the aluminum electrolytic cell has better thermal insulation effect and convenient construction; the raw materials mainly composed of fly ash can be directly granulated and sintered to prepare it, and it can be directly laid when used, which is convenient to use.
[0031] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, the sum of the mass contents of aluminum oxide and silicon oxide in the first fly ash particles, the second fly ash particles, the third fly ash particles, and the fourth fly ash particles is no less than 80%.
[0032] When the total content of aluminum oxide and silicon oxide in the first fly ash particles, the second fly ash particles, the third fly ash particles and the fourth fly ash particles is respectively above 80%, the aluminum electrolytic cell lining material can have sufficient fire resistance.
[0033] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, the aluminum electrolytic cell lining material further includes, by weight, 0.5-5 parts of an adhesive.
[0034] In other embodiments of the present disclosure, the first fly ash particles, the second fly ash particles, the third fly ash particles and the fourth fly ash particles respectively contain fly ash and a binder. In terms of mass, the mass of the binder accounts for 0.5-5% of the total mass of the first fly ash particles; the mass of the binder accounts for 0.5-5% of the total mass of the second fly ash particles; the mass of the binder accounts for 0.5-5% of the total mass of the third fly ash particles; and the mass of the binder accounts for 0.5-5% of the total mass of the fourth fly ash particles.
[0035] The adhesive can increase the strength of fly ash particles in various particle size ranges, so that the aluminum electrolytic cell lining material can withstand stronger construction actions and increase its stability during operation.
[0036] In some embodiments of the present disclosure, the adhesive includes at least one of bentonite, water glass, slaked lime, and clay.
[0037] The adhesive can withstand the temperature of the working environment of the aluminum electrolytic lining material.
[0038] In a second aspect, according to some embodiments of the present disclosure, a method for preparing an aluminum electrolytic cell lining material is provided. The method for preparing an aluminum electrolytic cell lining material can prepare the aluminum electrolytic cell lining material of any embodiment of the first aspect. Referring to FIG. 1 , the method for preparing an aluminum electrolytic cell lining material comprises the following steps:
