Abstract
Description

[0001] The present invention relates to a rewinding stage and a system for manufacturing a secondary battery including the same. This application claims the benefit of Korean Application No. 10-2023-0102905, filed August 7, 2023, and Korean Application No. 110-2024-0103566, filed August 5, 2024, which are incorporated herein by reference in their entirety.
[0002] Unlike primary batteries, secondary batteries can be charged and discharged multiple times. They are widely used as a power source for various wireless devices, including handsets, laptops, and cordless vacuum cleaners. Recently, improved energy density and economies of scale have dramatically reduced the per-unit manufacturing cost of secondary batteries. Furthermore, as the range of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) has increased to match that of fuel-powered vehicles, the primary use of secondary batteries is shifting from mobile devices to mobility.
[0003] Secondary batteries are manufactured through electrode processes, assembly processes, and activation processes. Among these, the electrode process is the most critical process in determining the yield and performance of the battery cell. The electrode process may include a coating process, a roll-pressing process, and a slitting process. In the coating process, active and insulating materials may be applied to the surface of the current collector. In the roll-pressing process, the electrode may be pressed by pressure rolls. The roll-pressing process may determine the density, performance, and surface quality of the electrode. In the slitting process, the electrode may be cut into multiple electrodes depending on the battery cell design.

[0033]
[0034] (Example 1)
[0035] Figure 1 illustrates a secondary battery manufacturing system (10) according to exemplary embodiments.
[0036] Referring to FIG. 1, the secondary battery manufacturing system (10) may include rewinding equipment (100), coating equipment (200), roll pressing equipment (300), slitting equipment (400), and notching equipment (500).
[0037] The electrode sheet unwound from the inserted electrode roll can be processed by any one of the die coater of the coating equipment (200), the press rolls of the roll pressing equipment (300), and the slitting knife of the slitting equipment (400), and the processed electrode sheet can be wound into an electrode roll. Accordingly, the processing of the coating equipment (200), the roll pressing equipment (300), and the slitting equipment (400) for producing the electrode of the secondary battery can be referred to as a roll-to-roll process.
[0038] The coating equipment (200) can perform a coating process on an electrode sheet. The coating process is a process of applying a coating material, such as electrode slurry, onto the electrode sheet. The electrode slurry may include an electrode active material, a conductive agent, a binder, and a solvent. The electrode slurry can be provided by dissolving the electrode active material, the conductive agent, the binder, etc. in a solvent.
[0039] The roll pressing equipment (300) can perform a roll pressing process on an electrode sheet. The roll pressing process is a process in which an electrode sheet (ES) coated with electrode slurry passes between opposing press rolls. The electrode surface can be flattened by the press rolls, and the bonding strength between the active material and the current collector can be enhanced.
[0040] The slitting equipment (400) can perform a slitting process on the electrode sheet. Through the slitting process, the electrode sheet can be separated into a plurality of electrode sheets.
[0041] The roll-to-roll process is performed on an electrode sheet (ES) that is unwound from a first electrode roll (ER1) and wound onto a second electrode roll (ER2), and the electrode process may also be referred to as a roll-to-roll process.
[0042] The notching device (500) can cut the electrode sheet drawn from the electrode roll into the electrode shape of a battery cell. Accordingly, unit electrodes can be formed in the notching device (500). The notching device (500) can further perform a drying process on either the electrode sheet or the unit electrodes.
[0043] If the electrode sheet contains a defect, the defect in the electrode sheet can be removed. The defect in the electrode sheet can be removed in either the roll press equipment (300) or the rewinding equipment (100).
[0044] In each of the rewinding equipments (100), no actual process may be performed on the electrode sheet. Each of the rewinding equipments (100) may change the winding direction of the electrode sheet. Each of the rewinding equipments (100) may unwind an electrode roll, remove defects from the electrode sheet unwound from the electrode roll, and rewind the electrode sheet from which the defects have been removed. Accordingly, in addition to removing defects from the electrode roll, the outer part of the input electrode roll may be wound relatively inward from the output electrode roll (the outer part of the input electrode roll rolls inwards in the output electrode roll). Similarly, the inner part of the input electrode roll may be wound relatively outward from the output electrode roll (the inner part of the input electrode roll rolls outwards in the output electrode roll).
[0045] The roll press equipment (300) can remove defects in the electrode sheet while performing the roll pressing process, or can remove only defects in the electrode sheet without performing the roll pressing process. The operation mode of the roll press equipment (300) that removes only the electrode sheet without performing the roll pressing process is referred to as the rewinding mode. In the rewinding mode, each of the pressure rolls can be moved to a position spaced apart from the electrode.
[0046] As the electrode roll is sequentially processed by the coating equipment (200), the roll press equipment (300), the slitting equipment (400), and the notching equipment (500), unit electrodes can be provided. In the case of long unit electrodes, after the roll pressing process is performed in the roll pressing equipment (300), they can be directly transferred to the notching equipment (500) without slitting in the slitting equipment (400).
[0047] If the defects in the electrode rolls processed by the coating equipment (200) and fed into the roll press equipment (300) are excessive, the defects in the electrode rolls can be removed in the roll press equipment (300). The excessive defects in the electrode rolls processed by the coating equipment (200) may include a large number of tab folds and ring defects.
[0048] If the defects in the electrode roll processed by the roll press equipment (300) are excessive, the defects in the electrode roll can be removed by either the roll press equipment (300) or the rewinding equipment (100) operating in the rewinding mode. Subsequently, the electrode roll with reduced defects (or no defects) can be input to the slitting equipment (400). The excessive defects in the electrode roll processed by the roll press equipment (300) can include winding slippage and exceeding the upper limit of the number of defective tags.
[0049] If the number of defects in the electrode roll processed by the slitting equipment (400) is excessive, the defects in the electrode roll can be removed in the rewinding equipment (100). Then, the electrode roll with reduced defects (or no defects) can be fed into the notching equipment (500). The excessive number of defects in the electrode roll processed by the slitting equipment (400) can include exceeding the upper limit of the number of defect tags.
[0050] Here, each of the rewinding facilities (100) can be brought online. Each of the rewinding facilities (100) can be configured to discard defective electrode rolls and collect scrap data indicating the amount discarded. Accordingly, the amount of discarded electrodes in the rewinding facilities (100) can be updated, and the traceability of the secondary battery manufacturing process can be improved.
[0051]
[0052] FIG. 2 illustrates a secondary battery manufacturing system (10) according to exemplary embodiments.
[0053] Referring to FIG. 2, the secondary battery manufacturing system (10) may include a rewinding facility (100), a server (1010), a server (1020), and a display device (1030).
[0054] The rewinding equipment (100) may include an unwinder (111), a rewinder (113), a splicing table (115), a scrap port (117), a first rotary encoder (121), a second rotary encoder (123), a reference point sensor (135), a first controller (141), and a second controller (143).
[0055] The secondary battery manufacturing system (10) may be configured to generate a roll map including data on the electrode sheet (ES). The roll map may represent the electrode sheet (ES) based on coordinate values indicating a location on the electrode sheet (ES). A process for manufacturing a secondary battery may be performed on the electrode sheet (ES), as described below. The roll map may represent a history of the process performed on the electrode sheet (ES) and include data associated with the coordinates. Accordingly, the roll map enables feedback, feed forwarding, and tracking of the manufacturing process of the secondary battery, as described below.
[0056] The first electrode roll (ER1) on which the previous process has been performed can be loaded onto the unwinder (111). The unwinder (111) can be configured to unwind the electrode sheet (ES) from the first electrode roll (ER1). The rewinder (113) can be configured to wind the electrode sheet (ES) to form a second electrode roll (ER2). The electrode sheet (ES) can be wound onto the second electrode roll (ER2) and, after reaching a predetermined winding length, can be cut and separated. Accordingly, the electrode sheet (ES) can be moved between the unwinder (111) and the rewinder (113).
[0057] The roll map can be generated on a lot basis. A lot is a production unit of a roll-to-roll process, and the separated second electrode roll (ER2) is an example of a lot. Similarly, the first electrode roll (ER1) newly loaded onto the unwinder (111) is also an example of a lot. Accordingly, the server (1020) can store the first roll map of a previous process (e.g., a coating process, a roll pressing process, or a slitting process). The first roll map may correspond to the first electrode roll (ER1). In addition, the server (1020) can be configured to generate a second roll map of the second electrode roll (ER2) based on the processing of the rewinding equipment (100). The second roll map may correspond to the second electrode roll (ER2).
[0058] As a non-limiting example, the second roll map may be generated by loading the first roll map and updating the first roll map. Alternatively, the second roll map may be generated based on data generated in the rewinding equipment (100) without loading the first roll map.
[0059] Time series data organized over time (i.e., according to the progress of the process) in the roll map can be associated with coordinate data based on the amount of movement of the electrode sheet (ES) (i.e., either the amount consumed or the amount injected).
[0060] The manufacturing of secondary batteries involves a series of distinct processes, with leading processes influencing subsequent processes. However, if the time-series data from leading processes do not directly match real-world workpieces, intermediate products, and finished products, it can be difficult to reflect this data in subsequent processes. Hereinafter, the correction of subsequent processes based on data generated from the results of leading processes is referred to as feedforward.
[0061] Here, the workpiece refers to an article provided as a result of each process, such as an electrode sheet (ES) that has undergone the coating process, roll pressing process, and slitting process illustrated in FIG. 1. A semi-finished product may refer to one of separators, electrodes, and assemblies thereof cut through a notching process. The semi-finished product may also be a structure including a housing and an electrode assembly embedded in the housing (in some cases, the structure further includes an electrolyte). A product refers to an article that has been processed to be operable as a secondary battery through an activation process. The above-described definitions of the workpiece, semi-finished product, and product are for one aspect thereof and do not exclude conventional definitions thereof.
[0062] The electrode process for secondary batteries involves a series of roll-to-roll processes. For feedforwarding, time-series data must be associated with the positions of real-world workpieces, components, semi-finished products, and finished products. Feedforwarding may involve controlling the process for the electrode sheet (ES) based on a roll map of the first electrode roll (ES1) generated in a previous process. The roll map may associate the time-series data with coordinate data, which includes coordinate values indicating the positions of real-world workpieces, components, semi-finished products, and finished products. Based on the coordinate data, the roll map can provide a matching between the time-series data and real-world workpieces, components, semi-finished products, and finished products. Accordingly, the generation of the roll map and feedforwarding based on the roll map can quantify and objectify aspects of the process previously dependent on the operator's discretion, thereby improving production efficiency and quality.
[0063] Additionally, the roll map of the preceding lot may be used to improve the process for the subsequent lot, an operation which may be referred to as process feedback. Process feedback using the roll map may include identifying process conditions and process parameters that caused problems and defects based on data included in the roll map. For example, the roll map of the first electrode roll (ER1) processed in the current process may include defective data (DD), and in the rewinding equipment (100), the electrode sheets (ES) unwound from the first electrode roll (ER1) may be discarded based on the defective data (DD).
[0064] Furthermore, the roll map, as described below, is cumulatively generated for work-pieces, parts, semi-finished products, and finished products of unit processes, thereby enabling tracking of the process history of shipped products (e.g., battery cells, battery modules, or battery packs). For example, a battery cell may include a cell ID formed on an electrode assembly or a case. The cell ID may include lot numbers and coordinate information of electrodes and separators included in the battery cell. In other words, the cell ID may be associated with a roll map of the electrodes and separators included in the battery cell. Accordingly, when an event such as a quality issue occurs in a battery cell that has already been shipped, historical data on the manufacturing of the corresponding battery cell can be retrieved based on the cell ID.
[0065] The first rotary encoder (121) may be configured to sense the amount of electrode sheet (ES) unwound from the first electrode roll (ER1) by the unwinder (111). Accordingly, the first rotary encoder (121) may generate an input amount signal (UWAS) indicating the length of the electrode sheet (ES) unwound by the unwinder (111). The first rotary encoder (121) may be configured to transmit the input amount signal (UWAS) to the first controller (141).
[0066] The second rotary encoder (123) may be configured to sense the amount of electrode sheet (ES) wound from the second electrode roll (ER2) by the rewinder (113). Accordingly, the second rotary encoder (123) may generate a consumption amount signal (WAS) indicating the length of the electrode sheet (ES) wound by the rewinder (113). The second rotary encoder (123) may be configured to transmit the consumption amount signal (WAS) to the first controller (141).
[0067] A portion of the electrode sheet (ES) may be discarded as described below. Accordingly, the length of the electrode sheet (ES) wound by the unwinder (111) may be different from the amount of the electrode sheet (ES) wound by the rewinder (113).
[0068] The first controller (141) may be configured to collect coordinate data of the electrode sheet (ES) based on a consumption amount signal (WAS) and / or a dosage signal (UWAS) of the electrode sheet (ES). For example, the first controller (141) may determine a movement distance of the electrode sheet (ES) based on the dosage signal (UWAS) of the electrode sheet (ES), and accordingly, the first controller (141) may be configured to determine a position within the electrode sheet (ES) of a portion of the electrode sheet (ES) that is unwound by the unwinder (111) at each time point at which an event occurs in the electrode sheet (ES). As another example, the first controller (141) may determine the movement distance of the electrode sheet (ES) based on the exhaustion amount signal (WAS) of the electrode sheet (ES), and accordingly, the first controller (141) may be configured to determine the position within the electrode sheet (ES) of a portion of the electrode sheet (ES) that is wound by the rewinder (113) at each time an event occurs in the electrode sheet (ES). As another example, the first controller (141) may also determine the movement distance of the electrode sheet (ES) based on each of the exhaustion amount signal (WAS) and the input amount signal (UWAS).
[0069] Here, the event may include various processing, inspection, and measurement that occur on the electrode sheet (ES) in the rewinding equipment (100), such as cutting of the electrode sheet (ES), joining of the electrode sheet (ES), sensing of a datum point on the electrode sheet (ES), and sensing of a defective tag on the electrode sheet (ES). Hereinafter, the technical idea of the present invention is explained with reference to an embodiment in which the first controller (141) collects coordinate data based on a consumption amount signal (WAS) of the electrode sheet (ES), as a non-limiting example.
[0070] The coordinate data may include coordinate values that match each part of the electrode sheet (ES). That is, each arbitrary point on the electrode sheet (ES) may be matched with a coordinate. The coordinate value may be a one-dimensional quantity in the longitudinal direction of the electrode sheet (ES), but is not limited thereto. The coordinate value may also be a two-dimensional quantity in the Y direction in the longitudinal direction and the width direction of the electrode sheet (ES).
[0071] The NG sensor (131) may be configured to sense either an NG mark or an NG tag on the electrode sheet (ES). The NG mark may be formed, for example, by an inkjet printer or the like, and may include information on the location and type of a defect. The NG tag may be attached to the electrode sheet (ES) by a worker or an NG tag attacher. The NG tag may indicate the location of a defect in the electrode sheet (ES). As a non-limiting example, the NG sensor (131) may be either a color sensor or a vision machine. The NG sensor (131) may be configured to generate an NG detection signal (NSS). The NG sensor (131) may be configured to transmit the NG detection signal (NSS) to the first controller (141).
[0072] The first controller (141) may be configured to collect NG detection data (NSD) based on the NG detection signal (NSS). The first controller (141) may be configured to associate the NG detection signal (NSS) with coordinate data to collect the NG detection data (NSD). The NG detection data (NSD) may include, for example, a defect value indicating the presence or absence of a defect and the nature of the defect, and a coordinate value matching the defect value.
[0073] To collect NG detection data (NSD), the coordinate data can be calibrated based on the offset length (OL1). The calibration of the coordinate data compensates for the difference between the portion of the electrode sheet (ES) sensed by the first rotary encoder (121), i.e., the portion of the electrode sheet (ES) wound by the rewinder (113), and the portion of the electrode sheet (ES) sensed by the NG sensor (131).
[0074] According to exemplary embodiments, the first controller (141) may correct coordinate data collected at the same time as the NG detection signal (NSS) based on an offset length (OL1) to collect NG detection data (NSD), and associate the corrected coordinate data with the NG detection signal (NSS). The processing unit (131P) may be configured to transmit the NG detection data (NSD) to the first controller (141).
[0075] The offset length (OL1) is the length of the electrode sheet (ES) between the NG sensor (131) and the rewinder (113) along the movement path of the electrode sheet (ES). The offset length (OL1) may be equal to the straight-line distance between the NG sensor (131) and the rewinder (113), or may be greater than the straight-line distance between the NG sensor (131) and the rewinder (113).
[0076] The second controller (143) may be configured to control the operation of the unwinder (111), the rewinder (113), the scrap port (117), and the processing mechanism (119). The second controller (143) may be configured to generate signals for operation and stop of the unwinder (111), the rewinder (113), the scrap port (117), and the processing mechanism (119). The signals for operation and stop of the unwinder (111), the rewinder (113), the scrap port (117), and the processing mechanism (119) may be generated based on a body including details of a product ID and a manufacturing recipe.
[0077] The second controller (143) may be configured to receive NG detection data (NSD) from the first controller (141). The second controller (143) may be configured to receive defective data (DD) from the server (1020). The defective data (DD) may be loaded into the second controller (143) via the server (1010). Here, the defective data (DD) may indicate the location of a defect on the first electrode roll (ER1). The defective data (DD) may be included in the first roll map of the first electrode roll (ER1).
[0078] The second controller (143) may be configured to generate signals for operation and stop of the unwinder (111), the rewinder (113), the scrap port (117), and the processing mechanism (119) based on the NG detection data (NSD) and the defective data (DD). When a defect on the electrode sheet (ES) identified by the defective data (DD) and the NG detection data (NSD) approaches the splicing table (115), the second controller (143) may be configured to generate a signal for slowing down the moving speed of the electrode sheet (ES) or stopping the winding and unwinding of the unwinder (111) and the rewinder (113).
[0079] After cutting the starting position of the defect (or, considering the process margin, a position adjacent to the starting position of the defect) on the splicing table (115), the scrap port (117) can be configured to wind up the defective portion (DES) of the electrode sheet (ES), as indicated by the bold dashed line. After the defective portion (DES) of the electrode sheet (ES) is sufficiently wound by the scrap port (117), the electrode sheet (ES) connected to the scrap port (117) and the electrode sheet (ES) connected to the unwinder (111) can be separated. Subsequently, the current process can be continued by connecting the portion of the electrode sheet (ES) connected to the unwinder (111) and the portion of the electrode sheet (ES) connected to the rewinder (113). The portion of the electrode sheet (ES) connected to the unwinder (111) and the portion of the electrode sheet (ES) connected to the rewinder (113) can be connected on a splicing table (115).
[0080] In the past, there was a problem in which defective electrode sheets were wound without being discarded, or defective portions remained in the electrode sheets despite being discarded. According to exemplary embodiments, a defective portion (DES) of an electrode sheet (ES) is discarded based on NG detection data (NSD) and defective data (DD), thereby improving the reliability and traceability of discarding the electrode sheet (ES).
[0081] After the unwinder (111) and the rewinder (113) are stopped for scrapping a portion (DES) of an electrode sheet (ES), the portion (DES) of the electrode sheet (ES) can be moved to a scrap port by driving the unwinder (111) without driving the rewinder (113). The first controller (141) may be configured to collect scrap data (SD) based on the unwind amount signal (UWAS) after the start of scrapping of the defective portion (DES) of the electrode sheet (ES). For collecting the scrap data (SD), the first controller (141) may also receive a signal for controlling the operation of the unwinder (111) and the rewinder (113) from the second controller (143). As another example, the first controller (141) may be configured to collect the scrap data (SD) based on the rotation amount of the drive roll of the scrap port (117). As another example, the first controller (141) may be configured to collect scrap data (SD) based on changes in the distance between reference points on the electrode sheet (ES) and the distance between a seam on the electrode sheet (ES) and the reference point.
[0082] In the past, the amount of electrode sheets to be discarded was determined subjectively by the operator or based on the weight of the portion of the discarded electrode sheet, which resulted in low accuracy in the amount of discarded electrode sheets, thereby reducing the traceability of the process. According to exemplary embodiments, by collecting scrap data (SD) indicating the location and amount of portions (DE) of discarded electrode sheets (ES) based on the input amount signal (UWAS), the disposal process, which was previously dependent on the subjectivity of the operator, can be objectified. Accordingly, the reliability and traceability of secondary battery manufacturing can be improved.
[0083] The seam sensor (133) may be configured to sense a seam on the electrode sheet (ES) to generate a seam detection signal (JSS). The seam may be connected to the electrode sheet (ES) after the portion (DES) of the electrode sheet (ES) is discarded. As a non-limiting example, the seam sensor (133) may be any one of a color sensor and a vision machine. The seam sensor (133) may be configured to transmit the seam detection signal (JSS) to the first controller (141).
[0084] The first controller (141) may be configured to collect joint detection data (JSD) based on the joint detection signal (JSS). The first controller (141) may be configured to collect joint detection data (JSD) by associating the joint detection signal (JSS) with coordinate data.
[0085] According to exemplary embodiments, the first controller (141) may correct coordinate data collected at the same time as the seam detection signal (JSS) based on an offset length (OL2) to collect seam detection data (JSD) and associate the corrected coordinate seam detection signal (JSS).
[0086] The offset length (OL2) is the length of the electrode sheet (ES) between the seam sensor (133) and the rewinder (113) along the movement path of the electrode sheet (ES). The offset length (OL2) may be equal to the straight-line distance between the seam sensor (133) and the rewinder (113), or may be greater than the straight-line distance between the seam sensor (133) and the rewinder (113).
[0087] The reference point sensor (135) may be configured to sense reference points of the electrode sheet (ES) to generate a reference point detection signal (DSS). The reference points may be formed at set intervals on the electrode sheet (ES) to indicate a position on the electrode sheet (ES). Each of the reference points may be, for example, a two-dimensional barcode including information about the formed order. Accordingly, the reference point detection signal (DSS) may include a time value corresponding to sensing of the reference point and a sequence value of the reference point. The reference point sensor (135) may be configured to transmit the reference point detection signal (DSS) to the first controller (141).
[0088] The first controller (141) may be configured to collect reference point detection data (DSD) based on a reference point detection signal (DSS). The first controller (141) may be configured to collect reference point detection data (DSD) by associating the reference point detection signal (DSS) with coordinate data.
[0089] According to exemplary embodiments, the first controller (141) may correct coordinate data collected at the same time as the reference point detection signal (DSS) based on an offset length (OL3) to collect reference point detection data (DSD), and associate the corrected coordinate data with the reference point detection signal (DSS).
[0090] The offset length (OL3) is the length of the electrode sheet (ES) between the reference point sensor (135) and the rewinder (113) along the movement path of the electrode sheet (ES). The offset length (OL3) may be equal to the straight-line distance between the reference point sensor (135) and the rewinder (113), or may be greater than the straight-line distance between the reference point sensor (135) and the rewinder (113).
[0091] According to exemplary embodiments, any data generated based on events of scrap data (SD), NG detection data (NSD) and electrode sheet (ES) can be corrected based on baseline detection data (DSD).
[0092] The rewinding equipment (100) may further include additional measuring devices and testers. Each of the measuring devices and testers may include a sensing unit and a processing unit. The measuring devices may be configured to generate measurement data, and the tester may be configured to generate test data. The processing units of the tester and the tester may be connected to the tester and the sensing unit of the tester, either wired or wirelessly.
[0093] The measurement data may include a plurality of measurement values expressed in numbers. For example, the measurement data may include dimensional data of the electrode sheet (ES) such as thickness and width, loading amount data of the coating material on the electrode sheet (ES), dimensional data such as the width of the insulating material provided on the coating material and the overlapping width between the coating material and the insulating material, mismatch data between the maintenance lanes on the upper surface of the electrode sheet (ES) and the maintenance lanes on the lower surface of the electrode sheet (ES), etc. Here, the loading amount represents the amount of the coating material loaded per unit area of the electrode sheet (ES) and may be the areal density of the coating material.
[0094] Inspection data collected by the inspection device may include judgments on the quality of a portion of the electrode sheet (ES) and process events. For example, the inspection data may include data on the appearance of the electrode sheet (ES) collected by an image-based inspection device such as a vision machine, data on breaks and seams of the electrode sheet (ES), data on a portion of the electrode sheet (ES) on which sampling inspection has been performed, data on a portion of the electrode sheet (ES) scheduled for disposal, data on a portion of the electrode sheet (ES) discarded, data on the quality of coating materials and insulating materials on the electrode sheet (ES), data on reference points indicating the position of the electrode sheet (ES), and defect data such as pinhole defects, crater defects, line defects, crack defects, side ring defects, island defects, fold defects, wrinkle defects, dent defects, and imprint defects. The reference points may be formed at predetermined intervals on the electrode sheet (ES), and the positions of other elements on the electrode sheet (ES) may be located based on the reference points. The inspector can be any one of a color sensor, a seam sensor, a fiducial sensor, and a vision machine.
[0095] The measurement data and inspection data described above may be time-series data. The measurement data and inspection data may be temporally ordered. Temporal ordering is a key characteristic of time-series data, organizing events in the order in which they occur and arrive for processing. That is, the measurement data and inspection data may be stored based on the time at which the measurement and inspection were performed, and the measurement data and inspection data may be temporally associated. Accordingly, each measurement value of the measurement data may be matched to a time, and each inspection value of the inspection data may be matched to a time.
[0096] For example, data of a measurement quantity (e.g., a loading amount on an electrode sheet (ES) or a thickness of an electrode sheet (ES)) may have a series of values of a measurement quantity (e.g., a loading amount on an electrode sheet (ES) or a thickness of an electrode sheet (ES)) and time values associated with the series of values of the measurement quantity. The measurement values and the time values may be matched one-to-one, but are not limited thereto. As another example, data of a defect may have a value indicating a defect and a time value associated with the value indicating the defect. Here, indicating a defect means including information on at least one of the presence or absence of a defect and the type of the defect.
[0097] The measurement data is processed in a set manner so that the quality of the measured portion of the electrode sheet (ES) can be determined. If the measured amount of the coating material on the electrode sheet (ES) (e.g., the loading amount on the electrode sheet (ES) or the thickness of the electrode sheet (ES)) is within a set range including an upper limit and a lower limit, the corresponding portion of the electrode sheet (ES) can be determined as a good product. If the measured amount of the coating material on the electrode sheet (ES) (e.g., the loading amount on the electrode sheet (ES) or the thickness of the electrode sheet (ES)) is less than the lower limit or greater than the upper limit, the corresponding portion of the electrode sheet (ES) can be determined as a defective product.
[0098] The sensing unit of the tester and the measuring instrument may be configured to sense a physical quantity of the electrode sheet (ES) to generate a measurement signal. For example, the sensing unit may include a Time Delay and Integration (TDI) camera, a Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) image sensor, and a Time of Flight (TOF) sensor. The sensing unit may also include an emitter and a receiver configured to perform measurements using non-destructive signals, such as ultrasound, microwaves, terahertz waves, and infrared waves. The sensing unit may include analog and / or digital sensors, such as a biosensor, a chemical sensor, a composition sensor, a current and / or power meter, an air quality sensor, a gas sensor, a Hall effect sensor, a brightness level sensor, and a light sensor. The measuring instrument may include a pressure sensor, a temperature sensor, an ultrasonic sensor, a proximity sensor, a door status sensor, a motion tracking sensor, a humidity sensor, a color sensor, an OCR reader, visible and infrared sensors, and a camera.
[0099] The processing unit may be configured to collect the inspection signals and measurement signals sensed by the sensing unit to generate inspection data and measurement data. The processing unit may be connected to the sensing unit by wire or wirelessly. The processing unit of the measuring device may be configured to correct the measurement data by adding an offset measurement amount to each of a plurality of measurement values of the measurement data. Due to the progress of the process and the aging of the equipment, the measurement values of the measurement data may differ from the actual values. The processing unit may correct the measurement data based on the offset measurement amount. The offset measurement amount may be determined based on information known about the equipment system through methods such as sample testing.
[0100] According to exemplary embodiments, the tester and the measuring instrument may be configured to calibrate coordinate data based on their respective positions. More specifically, the tester and the measuring instrument may be configured to correlate coordinate values of the coordinate data with measurement values of the measurement data or inspection values of the inspection data by calibrating the coordinate data based on offset lengths. Calibration of the coordinate data by the tester and the measuring instrument is similar to calibration using offset lengths (OL1, OL2, OL3).
[0101] The processing unit of the measuring device may be configured to collect evaluation data based on the measurement data. The evaluation data may be collected based on a comparison of the measurement values of a plurality of sections within the electrode sheet (ES) with a set range. For example, a measurement value (or average) within a first range may be determined as normal, a measurement value (or average) within a second range that is greater than the first range may be determined as excessive, a measurement value (or average) within a third range that is greater than the second range may be determined as very excessive, a measurement value (or average) within a fourth range that is smaller than the first range may be determined as insufficient, and a measurement value (or average) within a fifth range that is smaller than the fourth range may be determined as very insufficient.
[0102] Here, if the lower limit of the second range is greater than or equal to the upper limit of the first range, the second range is greater than the first range. Similarly, if the upper limit of the fourth range is less than or equal to the lower limit of the first range, the fourth range is less than the first range.
[0103] The first controller (141) may be in operative communication with the first rotary encoder (121), the second rotary encoder (123), the NG sensor (131), the seam sensor (133), the reference point sensor (135) and additional measuring instruments and inspectors via a wired or wireless data network. The data network may be unidirectional or bidirectional. The data network may be implemented by a public network and / or a specialized network using a physical channel, WiFi, Bluetooth and / or other frequency bands. The first rotary encoder (121), the second rotary encoder (123), the NG sensor (131), the seam sensor (133), the reference point sensor (135) and additional measuring instruments and inspectors may be configured to collect data from the equipment, workpiece, semi-finished product and finished product within the rewinding equipment (100), or to generate signals for collecting data.
[0104] The first controller (141) may be configured to transmit NG detection data (NSD), joint detection data (JSD), scrap data (SD), and baseline detection data (DSD) to the second controller (143). The NG detection data (NSD), joint detection data (JSD), scrap data (SD), and baseline detection data (DSD) may be transmitted to the first server (1020) via the second controller (143) and the server (1010). The second controller (143) and the server (1010) may relay communication of data including the NG detection data (NSD), joint detection data (JSD), scrap data (SD), and baseline detection data (DSD) between the first server (1020) and the first controller (141). However, it is not limited thereto, and the first controller (141) may also directly transmit NG detection data (NSD), joint detection data (JSD), scrap data (SD), and reference point detection data (DSD) to the server (1020).
[0105] For process control, a communication line may be installed between the second controller (143) and the server (1020) via the server (1010) and connecting the second controller (143) and the server (1020). Accordingly, data transmission through the second controller (143) can reduce resources required for installation of the communication line and improve data processing and management efficiency compared to the case where the first and second rotary encoders (121, 125) and the reference point sensor (135) directly transmit the input amount signal (UWS), the exhaustion amount signal (WS) and the measurement signal to the server (1020) and the case where the first controller (141) directly transmits the measurement data (CMD) and the evaluation data (ED) to the server (1020).
[0106] The server (1010) may be a communication server. The server (1010) may include a program for communication between the second controller (143) of the manufacturing facility and the upper server, the server (1020). The server (1010) may be implemented in hardware as described below. The language and protocol of the server (1020) may be different from the language and protocol of the second controller (143). For example, the language of the server (1020) may be SQL, and the language of the second controller (143) may be a ladder diagram.
[0107] The server (1020) may be configured to generate a roll map based on NG detection data (NSD), joint detection data (JSD), scrap data (SD), and reference point detection data (DSD). The roll map may be generated on a lot-by-lot basis. The roll map may include data regarding specifications of the lot. The specifications of the lot may include, for example, a lot number, a length of a wound electrode sheet (ES), a width of the electrode sheet (ES), and materials and compositions used in processing the electrode sheet (ES).

[0109] According to other exemplary embodiments, the server (1020) may be configured to store and process raw measurement data. The server (1020) may continuously monitor the processing of the electrode sheet (ES) based on the measurement data, thereby managing the quality of the processing of the electrode sheet (ES). According to exemplary embodiments, the server (1020) may be a Statistical Process Controller (SPC). By collecting and analyzing manufacturing data in near real-time, the server (1020) may promptly identify problem conditions and provide alerts to operators before potential problems occur.
[0110] According to other exemplary embodiments, the server (1020) may be, for example, a data warehouse and may store NG detection data (NSD), scrap data (SD), and coordinate data for a long period of time based on the quality assurance period of the product, etc.
[0111] According to other exemplary embodiments, the server (1020) may be provided separately from the MES, SPC, and data warehouse for role map creation.
[0112] The first controller (141) and the second controller (143) may be programmable logic controllers (PLCs). A PLC is a specialized type of microprocessor-based controller that uses programmable memory to store commands and implement functions such as logic, sequencing, timing, counting, and arithmetic to control machines and processes. PLCs are easy to operate and program.

For example, servers (1010) and (1020) may include computing devices such as workstation computers, desktop computers, laptop computers, and tablet computers. Servers (1010) and (1020) may be implemented using, for example, general-purpose computers or application-specific hardware such as digital signal processors (DSPs), field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), and application specific integrated circuits (ASICs).

[0116] The server (1020) can transmit a visualization command (VC) to the display device (1030), and the display device (1030) can visualize the roll map and display the visualized roll map.
[0117] The rewinding equipment (100) can implement a plug-in architecture with an API for data acquisition to provide plug-and-play connectivity for measuring instruments and testers. This allows resources from a specific process step and site to be easily transferred to other processes and sites, or new resources to be easily introduced to each process step and site.
[0118] The data network between elements of the secondary battery manufacturing system (10) may include various types of communication channels, including unidirectional, bidirectional wired, and wireless communications. For example, the data network may include an industrial protocol network such as OPC, Modbus, ProfiNet, etc. The communication channel may be a dedicated conduit communication such as USB (Universal Serial Bus), IEEE 802 (Ethernet), IEEE 1394 (FireWire), or other high-speed data communication standards.
[0119] In some embodiments, the secondary battery manufacturing system (10) may further include a manual input system that allows an operator to input manufacturing data. SCADA may typically include a combination of software and hardware, such as a PLC and a Remote Terminal Unit (RTU). The HMI is a key element of the SCADA system, serving as a screen that supports communication between the operator and the SCADA system. For example, manual input by the HMI may include selecting a defect type and reflecting performance upon completion.
[0120] According to some embodiments, the operations of the first controller (141), the second controller (143), the server (1010), and the server (1020) may be implemented as instructions stored on a machine-readable medium that can be read and executed by one or more processors. Here, the machine-readable medium may include any mechanism for storing and / or transmitting information in a form readable by a machine (e.g., a computing device). For example, the machine-readable medium may include a read-only memory (ROM), a random access memory (RAM), a magnetic disk storage medium, an optical storage medium, a flash memory, an electrical, optical, acoustical, or other form of radio signal (e.g., a carrier wave, an infrared signal, a digital signal, etc.), and any other signal.
[0121] The first controller (141), the second controller (143), the server (1010), and the server (1020) may be configured with firmware, software, routines, and instructions for performing the operations described above or any of the processes described below. For example, the first controller (141), the second controller (143), the server (1010), and the server (1020) may be instantiated in memory.
[0122] The first controller (141) may be implemented by software configured to receive an input signal (UWAS), an exhaustion signal (WAS), an NG detection signal (NSS), a joint detection signal (JSS), and a reference point detection signal (DSS), collect coordinate data, NG detection data (NSD), joint detection data (JSD), scrap data (SD), and reference point detection data (DSD), and transmit the NG detection data (NSD), joint detection data (JSD), scrap data (SD), and reference point detection data (DSD).

[0127] The architecture of the secondary battery manufacturing system (10) configured to generate a roll map can be implemented by adding only the first controller (141) to the processing unit, the second controller (143), the server (1010), and the server (1020), which are essential elements in a modern process management system. That is, the system according to exemplary embodiments can utilize the resources of an existing manufacturing site and reduce additional capital expenditure. In addition, by applying the same architecture as the existing manufacturing facility to a newly constructed manufacturing facility, the reliability of secondary battery manufacturing, the discovery / improvement of problematic processes, and the introduction of new processes can be improved.
