Abstract
Description
Tape for manufacturing a battery module, a battery module including a battery cell to which the tape for manufacturing a battery module is attached, and a method for manufacturing a battery module
[0001] This application claims the benefit of priority from Korean Patent Application No. 10-2023-0108630, filed August 18, 2023, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference.
[0002] The present invention relates to a tape for manufacturing a battery module, a battery module including a battery cell to which the tape for manufacturing a battery module is attached, and a method for manufacturing a battery module. More specifically, the present invention relates to a tape for manufacturing a battery module that can prevent stretching of an adhesive and scattering of adhesive pieces when attached to a battery cell, a battery module including a battery cell to which the tape for manufacturing a battery module is attached, and a method for manufacturing the battery module.
[0003]
[0004] Demand for high-efficiency secondary batteries is rapidly increasing in industries such as mobile devices and electric vehicles. Among these secondary batteries, lithium secondary batteries, with their high energy density, ability to sustain relatively high voltages, and low self-discharge rates, are commercialized and widely used, and active research and development is underway to improve their performance.
[0005] Secondary batteries have a structure in which an electrode assembly and electrolyte are embedded in a case such as a can or pouch.
[0006] Among these, the pouch-type secondary battery has a structure in which an electrode assembly is mounted within a pouch. At this time, the electrode assembly has a structure in which a positive electrode, a separator, and a negative electrode are repeatedly laminated, and the positive electrode tabs extending from each positive electrode are gathered into one and connected to the positive electrode lead, and the negative electrode tabs extending from each negative electrode are gathered into one and connected to the negative electrode lead. In addition, the ends of the positive electrode lead and the negative electrode lead protrude from the pouch so as to be electrically connected to the outside.
[0007] Meanwhile, secondary batteries installed in vehicles, ESS (Energy Storage Systems), etc., are combined into multiple battery modules to increase output and electrical storage capacity, and multiple battery modules are combined to form a battery pack. In other words, multiple battery cells (secondary batteries) are assembled into a battery module, and multiple battery modules are assembled into a battery pack.
[0008] When the above pouch-type secondary battery is manufactured into a battery module, the battery cells are stacked so that their flat surfaces are in contact with each other, and an adhesive is attached to the contacting surfaces to provide a bonded state. The adhesive bonds the facing surfaces together, like an adhesive or double-sided adhesive tape.
[0009] For reference, even when a compression pad is inserted between neighboring battery cells, an adhesive is attached to the battery cells to form bonds with the compression pad. The compression pad is optionally provided to protect the battery cells from sudden shocks and vibrations that may result from movement, temperature, or other environmental factors of the battery cells, absorbs shrinkage and expansion due to charging and discharging of the battery cells, and provides a function to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring battery cells in the event of a fire in a specific battery cell. In other words, regardless of the presence or absence of a compression pad between the battery cells, the battery cells are stacked with the adhesive attached so that they are fixed during stacking.
[0010] Therefore, the process of manufacturing a battery module includes a step of attaching an adhesive (2) to a battery cell (5).
[0011] Referring to Fig. 1a, which illustrates an appearance of an adhesive (2) to be attached to a battery cell (5) being provided, and Fig. 1b, which sequentially illustrates an appearance of attaching the adhesive (2) to the battery cell (5), the adhesive (2) to be attached to the battery cell (5) is provided as an 'inorganic transfer tape' as disclosed in Patent Publication No. 10-2018-0092752. That is, it is provided in the form of a tape (1) laminated so that a release paper (3) is placed on one side and a sheet-shaped adhesive (2) is placed on the other side, and the tape (1) is unwound from a roll form and configured to move through a plurality of rollers while being unwound. While the above tape (1) is being introduced and moved, the gripper (6) that grips the battery cell (5) slides over one of the rollers (4) so that the adhesive (2) comes into contact with the lower surface of the battery cell (5), thereby separating the adhesive (2) from the release paper (3) and adhering it to the battery cell (5).
[0012] Accordingly, the battery cell (5) is detached with the adhesive (2) attached to the bottom surface, and the release paper (3) from which the adhesive (2) has been peeled off is wound in a roll shape.
[0013] At this time, when the adhesive (2) is attached to the bottom surface of the battery cell (5), the adhesive (2) is configured to be cut by the upward force of the gripper (6) without a separate cutter. However, as shown in Fig. 1c, where the adhesive (2) is stretched and pieces are scattered, there were cases where the manufacturing process was interrupted because the adhesive (2) was not cut at the correct time but stretched. In addition, when the scattered pieces of adhesive were bounced onto the electrode lead (5a), there was a possibility that this could cause a welding defect when the electrode lead (5a) was welded, resulting in a product defect.
[0014] In addition, the above tape (1) is provided in roll form and can be replaced at the worker's discretion. However, because the criteria for replacement timing were unclear, there was a problem in which the tape (1) was replaced even when there was sufficient adhesive (2) remaining, resulting in wasted costs.
[0015]
[0016] Accordingly, the present invention has a primary purpose of providing a tape for manufacturing a battery module, in which an adhesive can be cut more accurately and quickly when a gripper is raised, a battery module including a battery cell to which the tape for manufacturing a battery module is attached, and a method for manufacturing the battery module, so as to solve the conventional problems described above.
[0017] In addition, another object of the present invention is to provide a method for manufacturing a battery module that can minimize waste by accurately guiding the timing of tape replacement.
[0018]
[0019] In order to achieve the above-mentioned purpose, the present invention provides a tape for manufacturing a battery module, a battery module including a battery cell to which the tape for manufacturing a battery module is attached, and a manufacturing method for manufacturing the battery module.
[0020] The method for manufacturing a battery module provided in the present invention is a method for manufacturing a battery module, comprising a step of attaching an adhesive to a battery cell, comprising a tape providing step in which a laminated tape having a release paper placed on one side and a sheet-shaped adhesive placed on the other side is continuously supplied so as to pass through a roller, wherein the release paper is supplied in contact with the roller; an adhering step in which a gripper gripping the battery cell slides over the roller so that the adhesive comes into contact with one side of the battery cell, thereby separating the adhesive from the release paper and adhering it to the battery cell; and a cutting step in which the adhesive is cut by the elevation of the gripper; wherein the adhesive is characterized in that a concave portion is formed on a surface in contact with the release paper so as to have a reduced thickness compared to other parts.
[0021] In the adhesive, convex portions having a protruding shape are formed between adjacent concave portions, and the release paper is formed with a corresponding uneven shape that fits each of the concave portions of the adhesive and the convex portions of the adhesive.
[0022] The above adhesive is formed so that the concave portion forms a grid shape on the surface that comes into contact with the release paper.
[0023] The adhesive is formed so that the length of the convex portion is greater than the length of the concave portion on the surface in contact with the release paper.
[0024] The adhesive is formed so that the thickness in the concave portion is in the range of 50% to 70% of the thickness in the convex portion.
[0025] The tape provided in the above tape providing step is provided in a roll state, and is manufactured so that an exposed portion is formed at the end where the tape is rolled, with only a release film exposed for a certain length from the end of the adhesive.
[0026] A tape replacement guidance step is included, in which a light sensor is placed to detect an exposed portion while the tape is being recommended, and when the light sensor detects the exposed portion, the tape replacement guidance step guides replacement of the tape.
[0027] In the above tape replacement guidance step, when the light sensor detects an exposed area, an audible or visual notification is displayed.
[0028] The above optical sensors are arranged in multiple locations spaced apart from each other.
[0029] The tape for manufacturing a battery module provided in the present invention is a tape for manufacturing a battery module in which a sheet-shaped adhesive attached to a battery cell manufactured into a battery module is placed on one side and a release paper is placed on the other side, and the adhesive has a concave portion formed in a shape such that the thickness is reduced at the contact surface with the release paper compared to other parts.
[0030] In the adhesive, convex portions having a protruding shape are formed between adjacent concave portions, and the release paper is formed with a corresponding uneven shape that fits each of the concave portions of the adhesive and the convex portions of the adhesive.
[0031] The adhesive is formed so that the concave portion forms a grid shape on the surface that comes into contact with the release paper.
[0032] The release paper has a longer length than the adhesive so that an exposed portion is formed by exposing only the release paper to a certain length from the end of the adhesive.
[0033] The above exposed portion is formed at each end of the adhesive.
[0034] The battery module provided in the present invention is a battery module including at least one battery cell (i.e., laminated) to which the adhesive of the tape for manufacturing a battery module described above is attached.
[0035]
[0036] The present invention having the above configuration has a concave portion formed on the contact surface with the release paper, so that when the gripper is raised, the adhesive can be more easily broken in the concave portion.
[0037] The release paper has a concave and convex shape corresponding to each of the concave and convex portions of the adhesive, so that the release paper can stably preserve the adhesive.
[0038] The above tape is provided in a roll form, and is manufactured so that an exposed portion is formed at the end where the roll ends, with only the release film exposed for a certain length from the end of the adhesive. The exposed portion is detected by an optical sensor, so that the timing of tape replacement can be accurately guided. Accordingly, tape waste can be prevented.
[0039] The above optical sensors can be arranged in multiple locations spaced apart from each other to improve accuracy and reliability.

[0049] Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the attached drawings so that those skilled in the art can easily practice the present invention. However, the present invention may be implemented in various different forms and is not limited to the embodiments described herein.
[0050] In order to clearly explain the present invention, parts that are not related to the description are omitted, and the same reference numerals are used for identical or similar components throughout the specification.
[0051] In addition, terms and words used in this specification and claims should not be interpreted as limited to their usual or dictionary meanings, but should be interpreted as meanings and concepts that conform to the technical idea of the present invention based on the principle that the inventor can appropriately define the concept of the term to explain his or her own invention in the best way.
[0052] The present invention relates to a tape for manufacturing a battery module, which can more accurately and quickly break an adhesive when a gripper is raised, and can more accurately determine the timing of tape replacement, a battery module including a battery cell to which the tape for manufacturing a battery module is attached, and a method for manufacturing the battery module. Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described in more detail with reference to the attached drawings.
[0053]
[0054] First embodiment
[0055]
[0056] A method for manufacturing a battery module provided in the present invention is provided as a first embodiment.
[0057] The battery module manufacturing method provided in this embodiment is configured to include a tape providing step, an adhesion step, and a cutting step.
[0058] FIG. 2 is a drawing showing the appearance of a tape for manufacturing a battery module provided in the present invention, and FIG. 3 is a drawing showing an enlarged version of FIG. 2. In addition, FIG. 4 is a drawing showing the appearance of the last unwound end of the tape provided in the present invention when it is in a roll form, and FIG. 5 is a drawing showing the appearance of the tape according to the present invention being unwound from one side (left) and rolled to the other side (right).
[0059] In the above tape providing step, a laminated tape (10) having a release paper (14) placed on one side and a sheet-shaped adhesive (11) placed on the other side is continuously supplied so as to pass through a roller, and the adhesive (11) is supplied so that the release paper (14) faces outward and contacts the roller.
[0060] That is, referring to Fig. 5, the tape (10) is provided in a roll shape in which a release paper (14) and an adhesive (11) are laminated. In addition, it is arranged to pass through a plurality of rollers, but is configured so that only the release paper (14) is wound at the point of recovery.
[0061] At this time, a battery cell conveyed by a gripper approaches one of the rollers (20) among the plurality of rollers and comes into contact with the adhesive (11) of the tape (10), and at the point of contact, the adhesive (11) detaches from the release paper (14). Then, only the release paper (14) from which the adhesive (11) has been peeled off is wound and recovered. At this time, the roller (20) is provided such that the adhesive (11) faces outward and the release paper comes into contact with the roller (20).
[0062] And, in the above bonding step, the adhesive (11) is attached to the battery cell. That is, as described in Fig. 1b, when the gripper gripping the battery cell approaches the selected roller (20), the bottom surface of the battery cell comes into contact with the adhesive (11) on the roller (20) and slides for a certain distance, so that the adhesive (11) is separated from the release paper (14) and is bonded to the bottom surface of the battery cell.
[0063] When the above battery cell passes over the roller (20), the gripper raises the battery cell it is gripping and cuts the adhesive (11), thereby performing cutting.
[0064] That is, in the above cutting step, cutting of the adhesive (11) is performed by the elevation of the gripper.
[0065] Meanwhile, in this embodiment, the tape (10) provided in the tape providing step is formed with a concave portion (12) so that a break is induced in the adhesive (11) when tensile force is generated. That is, the adhesive (11) is characterized in that a concave portion (12) having a concave shape is formed on the contact surface with the release paper (14) so that the thickness is reduced compared to other areas.
[0066] As the concave portion (12) is formed in the adhesive (11), a convex portion (13) is also formed as an opposite side. That is, a convex portion (13) having a protruding shape is formed between adjacent concave portions (12) in the adhesive (11).
[0067] And, the above-mentioned release paper (14) is formed with a concave-convex shape corresponding to a concave portion (12) of the adhesive (11) and a convex portion (13) of the adhesive (11), respectively, and is composed of a concave portion (15) and a convex portion (16).
[0068] The adhesive (11) is formed so that the concave portions (12) form a grid pattern on the surface that comes into contact with the release paper (14). That is, as illustrated in FIGS. 2 and 3, the concave portions (12) and the convex portions (13) are provided in a structure that is formed to repeat along the width and length directions of the tape (10). Accordingly, when separated from the release paper (14), the convex portions (13) and the concave portions (12) form a grid pattern like a checkerboard.
[0069] At this time, the adhesive (11) is formed so that the length and width of the convex portion (13) are larger than the length and width of the concave portion (12) on the surface in contact with the release paper (14).
[0070] That is, the area of the convex portion (13) is formed larger than the area of the concave portion (12). Accordingly, when a battery cell or compression pad adjacent to the convex portion (13) is attached, the problem of reduced contact area and reduced adhesive strength can be minimized. In addition, when the battery cell or compression pad is attached, the convex portion (13) is deformed by the applied force, and the concave portion (12) can be filled, thereby preventing a decrease in adhesive strength.
[0071] In addition, as the area of the concave portion (12) becomes smaller, when cutting of the adhesive (11) is performed, the point where cutting is performed is limited to the area of the concave portion (12), so that the pressure (that causes cutting) can be concentrated, and thus the cutting area can be made smoother and cleaner.
[0072] The adhesive (11) is formed so that the thickness in the concave portion (12) is in the range of 50% to 70% of the thickness in the convex portion (13). For example, when the thickness (b) in the convex portion (13) is 50 µm, the thickness (a) in the concave portion (12) is formed within the range of 25 µm to 35 µm.
[0073] For reference, the minimum thickness of the adhesive (11) that can secure reliable adhesion between neighboring battery cells or between a battery cell and a compression pad and ensure proper alignment after lamination is known to be 50㎛. This thickness was confirmed based on accumulated production data, and if the thickness is less than 50㎛, the adhesion is reduced, and if the thickness of the adhesive is too thick, the adhesion is somewhat increased, but problems with alignment after lamination may occur.
[0074] In this embodiment, by securing a thickness of 50 μm in the convex portion (13), a problem occurring as the thickness in the concave portion (12) becomes thinner can be prevented, and breakage of the adhesive (11) in the concave portion (12) can be induced.
[0075] Meanwhile, the tape (11) provided in the above tape providing step is provided in a roll state, and is manufactured so that an exposed portion (14a) is formed at the end where the unwinding is completed, in which only the release paper (14) is exposed for a certain length from the end of the adhesive (11).
[0076] That is, when the entire tape (10) is unrolled, the end that is unrolled last is provided with a structure in which only the release paper (14) protrudes by a predetermined length, as illustrated in FIG. 4. The release paper (14) does not need to be formed with unevenness in the portion forming the exposed portion (14a), but it is preferable to paint it with a color that contrasts with the adhesive (11). That is, it is preferable to paint the exposed portion (14a) with a color that is easy to detect by the optical sensor (32) so that the optical sensor (32: 32a, 32b) to be described later can detect the exposed portion (14a) more accurately and quickly through a color change.
[0077] Accordingly, as shown in FIG. 5, in this embodiment, a light sensor (32a, 32b) is placed between the point where the tape (10) is unwound and the roller where the unwound tape (10) first reaches so as to detect the exposed portion (14a) while the tape (10) is unwound.
[0078] The above light sensor (32) may be placed only in one position, but in order to increase reliability, multiple light sensors may be placed in positions spaced apart from each other.
[0079] And, when the above-mentioned light sensor (32) detects the exposed portion (14a), it transmits a detection signal to the control unit (30), and the control unit (30) guides the replacement of the tape (10) audibly or visually through an external warning device or alarm device (31).
[0080] That is, the method for manufacturing a battery module provided in this embodiment includes a tape replacement guidance step, and in the tape replacement guidance step, when the light sensor (32) detects the exposed portion (14a), an audible or visual notification is displayed. When the replacement notification occurs, the worker can replace the roll-shaped tape (10) and initialize the guidance step. Alternatively, when the replacement of the tape (10) is performed automatically rather than manually by the worker, the guidance step may replace the audible or visual notification by sending a replacement signal to the automatic tape replacement device.
[0081]
[0082] Second embodiment
[0083]
[0084] The present invention provides, as a second embodiment, a battery module including a tape for manufacturing a battery module that can be used in the method for manufacturing a battery module provided as a first embodiment, and a battery cell to which the tape for manufacturing a battery module is attached.
[0085] The tape (10) for manufacturing a battery module provided in this embodiment is provided by laminating a release paper (14) and a sheet-shaped adhesive (11).
[0086] That is, as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3, the tape (10) is provided in a combined state such that a sheet-shaped adhesive (11) attached to a battery cell is placed on one side and a release paper (14) is placed on the other side.
[0087] In addition, the adhesive (11) has a concave shape (12) formed on the contact surface where it comes into contact with the release paper (14) so that the thickness is reduced compared to other areas.
[0088] The portion where the above concave portion (12) is not formed forms a convex portion (13) by having a relatively protruding shape. That is, a convex portion (13) having a protruding shape is formed between adjacent concave portions (12) in the adhesive (11).
[0089] In addition, the release paper (14) is formed with a concave-convex shape corresponding to a concave portion (15) and a convex portion (16) that fit into the concave portion (12) and convex portion (13) of the adhesive (11), respectively. The adhesive (11) forms a lattice shape in the concave portion (12) on the surface that comes into contact with the release paper (14).
[0090] In addition, as illustrated in FIG. 4, when the roll-shaped tape (10) is unrolled to the end, an exposed portion (14a) is formed at the end that is unrolled last, in which only the release paper (14) is exposed for a certain length from the end of the adhesive (11). That is, the tape (10) provided in this embodiment is provided such that the release paper (14) has a longer length than the adhesive (11), so that it has a portion that is not bonded to the adhesive (11), and the unbonded portion forms the exposed portion (14a).
[0091] As described above, the above-mentioned exposed portion (14a) can be selectively formed not only at the end where the tape (10) is unwound last, but also at the end where unwound begins.
[0092] Accordingly, the control unit (30) that detects the exposed portion (14a) through the light sensor (32) can recognize that the tape (10) has been replaced and stop or reset the tape replacement guidance or alarm.
[0093] A tape (10) having the above configuration can have an adhesive (11) attached to battery cells according to the manufacturing method described in the first embodiment, and a plurality of battery cells to which the adhesive (11) is attached can be stacked to form a battery module.
[0094] Accordingly, the battery module provided in this embodiment is a battery module including (i.e., stacked) at least one battery cell to which the adhesive (11) of the tape for manufacturing the battery module described above is attached.
[0095] The present invention having the above configuration has a concave portion (12) formed on the contact surface of the adhesive (11) with the release paper (14), so that when the gripper is raised, the breakage can occur more easily at the concave portion (12).
[0096] The release paper (14) above has a concave shape corresponding to the concave portion (12) of the adhesive (11) and the convex portion (13) of the adhesive (11), so that the release paper (14) can stably preserve the adhesive (maintain the shape of the concave portion and the convex portion).
[0097] The above tape is provided in a roll state, and is manufactured so that an exposed portion (14a) is formed at the end where the unrolling ends, with only the release film exposed for a certain length from the end of the adhesive. Since the exposed portion (14a) is detected by a light sensor (32), the timing of tape replacement can be accurately guided. Accordingly, waste of the tape (10) can be prevented.
[0098] The above optical sensors can be arranged in multiple locations spaced apart from each other to improve accuracy and reliability.
[0099] Although the present invention has been described above with reference to limited embodiments and drawings, the present invention is not limited thereto, and various embodiments are possible within the scope equivalent to the technical idea of the present invention and the patent claims to be described below by a person having ordinary skill in the art to which the present invention pertains.
