[0001] Cross-citation with related applications

[0002] This application claims the benefit of priority to Korean Patent Application No. 10-2023-0114894, filed August 30, 2023, the entire contents of which are incorporated herein by reference.

[0003]

[0004] The present invention relates to a pressure vessel, and more particularly, to an adapter device for pressure testing of a pressure vessel.

[0005] Pressure vessels are typically used to store compressed, gaseous fuels. They are primarily installed in natural gas or hydrogen vehicles. Pressure vessels can consist of a plastic liner forming the vessel body, a fiber composite material surrounding the liner's outer surface, and a nozzle boss installed at the liner's inlet. The nozzle boss connects to the vehicle's valve (or adapter) and is typically made of high-strength metal.

[0006] Pressure vessels store fuel compressed at pressures exceeding 700 bar, making safety assessments essential. Hydraulic testing can be conducted to assess the pressure-resistant performance of pressure vessels. Hydraulic testing involves injecting water into a pressure vessel at high pressure, measuring its expansion, and then draining the water to measure its return to its original state. This process assesses the fatigue of the pressure vessel.

[0007] For hydraulic pressure testing of pressure vessels, a test adapter can be attached to the nozzle boss, and a water supply hose can be connected to the test adapter. Test adapters and water supply hoses typically have a threaded connection structure that provides high pressure resistance. However, threaded connections require the use of tools to ensure high tightening strength, making them inconvenient to work with and time-consuming to connect and disconnect.

[0008] The present invention aims to provide an adapter device for pressure testing of a pressure vessel, which can improve the efficiency of pressure testing by shortening the working time and simplifying fastening and disassembly by improving the joint structure of a test adapter and a water supply hose.

[0009] An adapter device for pressure testing of a pressure vessel according to one embodiment includes an adapter body, a water supply unit, and an air discharge unit. The adapter body is coupled to a nozzle boss of the pressure vessel and has a first flow path for passing water and a second flow path for passing air therein. The water supply unit includes a first connector coupled to the adapter body and having a third flow path communicating with the first flow path therein, and a first quick coupling device installed on the first connector and a water supply hose, respectively, to connect the first connector and the water supply hose in a one-touch manner. [0012] The second quick coupling device may include a female coupler installed on one of the second connector and the air exhaust hose, a male coupler installed on the other, and a fastening unit for fastening the female coupler and the male coupler. Each of the female coupler and the male coupler may include a cylinder provided with an internal flow path, and a valve unit installed inside the cylinder to control the flow path.

[0013] In each of the first quick coupling device and the second quick coupling device, the valve unit may include a valve pin, a support fixed to the inside of the cylinder, and a spring installed between the valve pin and the support to elastically support the valve pin.

[0014] According to another embodiment, an adapter device for pressure testing of a pressure vessel includes an adapter body, a water supply unit, a pressure gauge, and a residual pressure relief valve. The adapter body is coupled to a nozzle boss of the pressure vessel and has a first flow path for passing water therethrough, a second flow path for passing air therethrough, and a fifth flow path branched from the first flow path. The water supply unit includes a first connector coupled to the adapter body and having a third flow path internally communicating with the first flow path, and a first quick coupling device installed on each of the first connector and the water supply hose to connect the first connector and the water supply hose in a one-touch manner. The pressure gauge is connected and installed between the adapter body and the first connector, and measures and displays the residual pressure of the pressure vessel after the pressure test of the pressure vessel is completed. The residual pressure relief valve is coupled to the adapter body so that the internal space communicates with the fifth flow path, is connected to a vent hose, and releases the residual pressure of the pressure vessel when opened.

[0015] Each of the pressure gauge and the pressure relief valve can be screwed into the adapter body, and the first connector can be screwed into the pressure gauge.

[0016] The first quick coupling device may include a female coupler installed on one of the first connector and the water supply hose, a male coupler installed on the other, and a fastening unit for fastening the female coupler and the male coupler. Each of the female coupler and the male coupler may include a cylinder provided with an internal flow path, and a valve unit installed inside the cylinder to control the flow path.

[0017] An adapter device for pressure testing of a pressure vessel may further include an air discharge unit. The air discharge unit may include a second connector coupled to the adapter body and having a fourth channel internally communicating with the second channel, and a second quick coupling device installed on each of the second connector and the air discharge hose to connect the second connector and the air discharge hose in a one-touch manner.

[0018] The second euro may include a first portion parallel to the longitudinal direction of the adapter body and a second portion orthogonal to the first portion, and the second connector may be screw-connected to the peripheral surface of the adapter body so that the fourth euro communicates with the second portion. The pressure relief valve may be connected to the opposite side of the peripheral surface of the adapter body from the second connector.

[0019] The second quick coupling device may include a female coupler installed on one of the second connector and the air exhaust hose, a male coupler installed on the other, and a fastening unit for fastening the female coupler and the male coupler. Each of the female coupler and the male coupler may include a cylinder provided with an internal flow path, and a valve unit installed inside the cylinder to control the flow path.

[0020] In each of the first quick coupling device and the second quick coupling device, the valve unit may include a valve pin, a support fixed to the inside of the cylinder, and a spring installed between the valve pin and the support to elastically support the valve pin.

[0021] The adapter device of one embodiment can shorten the work time when conducting pressure testing of a pressure vessel and enhance the efficiency of the pressure test by enabling quick and easy connection and disassembly. Furthermore, the adapter device can check the residual pressure of the pressure vessel after the pressure test is completed. If the residual pressure is confirmed, the residual pressure relief valve can be opened to safely and easily relieve the residual pressure in the pressure vessel.

[0036] The water supply unit (300) includes a first connector (310) coupled to the adapter body (200) and a first quick coupling device (500) connecting the first connector (310) and a water supply hose (320).

[0037] The first connector (310) may have a cylindrical shape, and the longitudinal direction of the first connector (310) may be aligned with the longitudinal direction of the adapter body (200). A fifth screw thread (311), which is a male screw thread, may be provided on one outer surface of the first connector (310). The first connector (310) may be fastened to the adapter body (200) by screw engagement between the third screw thread (220) and the fifth screw thread (311).

[0038] A third flow path (P3) penetrating the first connector (310) is provided inside the first connector (310). The third flow path (P3) is connected to the first flow path (P1) when the first connector (310) and the adapter body (200) are coupled. The third flow path (P3) may be parallel to the longitudinal direction of the first connector (310) and may be positioned in a straight line with the first flow path (P1) when the adapter body (200) and the first connector (310) are coupled.

The female coupler (510) may be located on one side of the first connector (310) opposite the fifth screw thread (311), and the outer diameter of the female coupler (510) may be larger than the outer diameter of the first connector (310).

[0040] FIG. 4 is a drawing showing an example of a first quick coupling device (500) among the adapter devices illustrated in FIG. 2.

[0041] Referring to FIGS. 2 to 4, the female coupler (510) may include a female cylinder (511) provided with a flow path communicating with the third flow path (P3), and a valve unit (512) installed inside the female cylinder (511) to control the flow path. The male coupler (520) may include a male cylinder (521) provided with a flow path communicating with the inside of the water supply hose (320), and a valve unit (522) installed inside the male cylinder (521) to control the flow path. The first quick coupling device (500) may further include a fastening unit (530) that fastens the female coupler (510) and the male coupler (520).

[0042] The valve unit (512) of the female coupler (510) and the valve unit (522) of the male coupler (520) may have the same configuration. For example, the valve units (512, 522) may include a valve pin (513, 523) for controlling the flow, a support member (514, 524) fixed to the inside of each of the female cylinder (511) and the male cylinder (521), and a spring (515, 525) installed between the valve pin (513, 523) and the support member (514, 524) to elastically support the valve pin (513, 523).

[0043] When the female coupler (510) and the male coupler (520) are coupled, when the two valve pins (513, 523) come into contact, the two valve pins (513, 523) move inward due to the compression of the springs (515, 525), the flow path is opened, and water moves. At this time, the fastening unit (530) fastens the female cylinder (511) and the male cylinder (521) to secure pressure resistance. When the fastening unit (530) is released and the female coupler (510) and the male coupler (520) are separated, the two valve pins (513, 523) return to their initial positions due to the restoring force of the springs (515, 525), and the flow path is blocked.

[0044] In the above, the case where the female coupler (510) is provided in the first connector (310) and the male coupler (520) is provided in the water supply hose (320) has been described, but the positions of the female coupler (510) and the male coupler (520) are not limited to the above-described example, and a configuration in which they are installed opposite each other is also possible.

[0045] Referring again to FIGS. 1 to 3, the water supply unit (300) can secure high pressure resistance by using a first connector (310) that is screw-connected to the adapter body (200), and the water supply hose (320) and the first connector (310) can be quickly and easily connected without using a separate tool by using a first quick coupling device (500). In addition, the water supply unit (300) can quickly and easily separate the water supply hose (320) and the first connector (310) after the pressure test is completed.

[0046] The air exhaust unit (400) includes a second connector (410) coupled to the adapter body (200) and a second quick coupling device (600) connecting the second connector (410) and the air exhaust hose (420).

[0047] The second connector (410) may have a cylindrical shape, and the longitudinal direction of the second connector (410) may be perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the adapter body (200). A sixth screw thread (411), which is a male screw, may be provided on one outer surface of the second connector (410). The second connector (410) may be fastened to the adapter body (200) by screw engagement between the fourth screw thread (230) and the sixth screw thread (411).

[0048] A fourth passage (P4) penetrating the second connector (410) is provided inside the second connector (410). The fourth passage (P4) is connected to the second passage (P2) when the second connector (410) and the adapter body (200) are coupled.

[0049] FIG. 5 is a drawing showing an example of a second quick coupling device among the adapter devices illustrated in FIG. 2.

[0050] Referring to FIGS. 2, 3, and 5, the second quick coupling device (600) may include a female coupler (610) provided on the second connector (410) and a male coupler (620) provided on the end of the air exhaust hose (420). The female coupler (610) may be located on one side of the second connector (410) opposite the sixth screw thread (411), and the outer diameter of the female coupler (610) may be larger than the outer diameter of the second connector (410).

[0051] The female coupler (610) may include a female cylinder (611) provided with a flow path communicating with the fourth flow path (P4), and a valve unit (612) installed inside the female cylinder (611) to control the flow path. The male coupler (620) may include a male cylinder (621) provided with a flow path communicating with the inside of the air exhaust hose (420), and a valve unit (622) installed inside the male cylinder (621) to control the flow path. The second quick coupling device (600) may further include a fastening unit (630) that fastens the female coupler (610) and the male coupler (620).

[0052] The valve unit (612) of the female coupler (610) and the valve unit (622) of the male coupler (620) may have the same configuration. For example, the valve unit (612, 622) may include a valve pin (613, 623) for controlling the flow, a support member (614, 624) fixed to the inside of each of the female cylinder (611) and the male cylinder (621), and a spring (615, 625) installed between the valve pin (613, 623) and the support member (614, 624) to elastically support the valve pin (613, 623).

[0053] When the female coupler (610) and the male coupler (620) are coupled, when the two valve pins (613, 623) come into contact, the two valve pins (613, 623) move inward due to the compression of the springs (615, 625), the flow path is opened, and air moves. At this time, the fastening unit (630) fastens the female cylinder (611) and the male cylinder (621) to secure pressure resistance. When the fastening unit (630) is released and the female coupler (610) and the male coupler (620) are separated, the two valve pins (613, 623) return to their initial positions due to the restoring force of the springs (615, 625), and the flow path is blocked.

[0054] In the above, the case where the female coupler (610) is provided in the second connector (410) and the male coupler (620) is provided in the air discharge hose (420) has been described, but the positions of the female coupler (610) and the male coupler (620) are not limited to the above-described example, and a configuration in which they are installed opposite each other is also possible.

[0055] Referring again to FIGS. 1 to 3, the air discharge unit (400) can secure high pressure resistance by using a second connector (410) that is screw-connected to the adapter body (200), and the air discharge hose (420) and the second connector (410) can be quickly and easily connected without using a separate tool by using a second quick coupling device (600). In addition, the air discharge unit (400) can quickly and easily separate the air discharge hose (420) and the second connector (410) after the pressure test is completed.

[0056] The adapter device (100) of the above-described configuration can be coupled to the pressure vessel through a process of screw-connecting the adapter body (200) to the nozzle boss (20) of the pressure vessel (10), screw-connecting the first connector (310) and the second connector (410) to the adapter body (200), connecting the water supply hose (320) to the first connector (310) in a one-touch (or quick coupling) manner, and connecting the air exhaust hose (420) to the second connector (410) in a one-touch manner.

[0057] After installing the adapter device (100) on the nozzle boss (20) of the pressure vessel (10) through the aforementioned process, a pressure test is conducted by injecting water at high pressure into the interior of the pressure vessel (10). In this process, the air inside the pressure vessel (10) is discharged to the outside through the second flow path (P2), the fourth flow path (P4) and the air discharge hose (420), thereby facilitating the injection of water into the pressure vessel (10).

[0058] The adapter device (100) of the above-described embodiment can shorten the working time when conducting a pressure test of a pressure vessel (10) by having the first and second quick coupling devices (500, 600), and can increase the efficiency of the pressure test by performing fast and easy fastening and disassembly.

[0059] Figure 6 is a cross-sectional view of an adapter device according to another embodiment.

[0060] Referring to FIG. 6, an adapter device (100A) according to another embodiment includes the same basic configuration as the adapter device (100) according to an embodiment described with reference to FIGS. 1 to 3, except that it further includes a pressure gauge (700) and a residual pressure relief valve (800). Below, the pressure gauge (700) and the residual pressure relief valve (800) will be mainly described, and descriptions of configurations overlapping with those of the above-described embodiment will be omitted.

[0061] The pressure gauge (700) can be coupled between the adapter body (200) and the first connector (310). For example, a male screw may be machined on one side (the right side based on the drawing) of the pressure gauge (700), and a female screw may be machined on the opposite side (the left side based on the drawing). The pressure gauge (700) can be screw-coupled to each of the adapter body (200) and the first connector (310). The pressure gauge (700) may be digital and may be provided with a display unit (710) that displays the detected pressure.

[0062] The residual pressure relief valve (800) can be coupled to the adapter body (200). For this purpose, the adapter body (200) can be provided with a fifth flow path (P5) branched off from the first flow path (P1), and a screw thread can be machined at the end of the fifth flow path (P5). At this time, the fifth flow path (P5) can be perpendicular to the first flow path (P1) and aligned vertically with the second part (P22) of the second flow path (P2). The residual pressure relief valve (800) can be screw-coupled to the adapter body (200) so as to communicate with the fifth flow path (P5), and can be connected to a vent hose (810).

[0063] The residual pressure relief valve (800) can be aligned vertically with the second connector (410) with the adapter body (200) in between. That is, the residual pressure relief valve (800) and the second connector (410) can be positioned 180° apart along the circumferential direction of the adapter body (200).

[0064] When attaching the adapter device to the pressure vessel (10), incomplete attachment may occur, in which case residual pressure may remain inside the pressure vessel (10) after the end of the pressure test. If the presence or absence of residual pressure in the pressure vessel (10) is not determined, a safety accident may occur when disassembling the adapter device.

[0065] The adapter device (100A) of the present embodiment can measure and display the residual pressure of the pressure vessel (10) using a pressure gauge (700) after the end of the pressure test, and when the residual pressure is confirmed, the residual pressure can be safely and easily released through the vent hose (810) by opening the residual pressure relief valve (800). The vent hose (810) can be connected to a water storage tank (not shown), and the water discharged during the process of removing the residual pressure can be stored in the water storage tank.

[0066] Although the preferred embodiments of the present invention have been described above, the present invention is not limited thereto, and various modifications can be made within the scope of the patent claims, the detailed description of the invention, and the attached drawings, and it is obvious that this also falls within the scope of the present invention.
