Electronic devices including connectors

[0001] The present disclosure relates to an electronic device including a connector.

[0002] An electronic device may include a battery with a high capacity, which may increase the area occupied by the battery within the electronic device. The electronic device may include at least one printed circuit board. The printed circuit board may be positioned on one side and the other side of the battery. The printed circuit board may include an antenna structure for wireless communication.

[0003] Each printed circuit board (e.g., first printed circuit board, second printed circuit board) positioned with a battery between them may be electrically connected to each other via a cable (e.g., coaxial cable). For example, an RF signal may be transmitted between the two printed circuit boards via the cable.

[0004] Electronic devices may include a securing structure (e.g., a retaining protrusion) for securing a cable within the electronic device. However, the securing structure for securing the cable may cause parasitic resonance, which may attenuate RF signals.

[0158] FIG. 9a and FIG. 9b are drawings showing a state in which a first cable (420) and a second cable (430) are connected to a connector (300) according to one embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0159] FIGS. 9A and 9B may be drawings showing a state in which a first cable (420) and a second cable (430) are connected to a connector (300) arranged on a printed circuit board (410). For example, FIGS. 9A and 9B may be drawings showing a state in which a first cable (420) and a second cable (430) are connected to a printed circuit board (410) and a connector (300) as viewed from the A-A' cross-section shown in FIG. 6A.

[0160] Fig. 9a is a drawing showing a first coupling state of a connector (300) and a first cable (420). Fig. 9b is a drawing showing a second coupling state of a connector (300) and a first cable (420).

[0161] In one embodiment, the first mating state of the connector (300) and the first cable (420) may mean a state in which the first cable (420) is simply placed without being fully mated to the connector (300).

[0162] In one embodiment, the second mating state of the connector (300) and the first cable (420) may mean a state in which the first cable (420) is fully mated to the connector (300). In the second mating state, the first cable (420) may be positioned at a position in which the end is moved in a direction (e.g., in the negative Z-axis direction) toward the printed circuit board (410) compared to the first mating state.

[0163] Referring to FIG. 9A, in a first mating state of the connector (300) and the first cable (420), the contact pin (421) of the first cable (420) can be in contact with the first contact member (340) and electrically connected. In the first mating state, the first contact member (340) is in contact with the printed circuit board (410) and electrically connected, so the first cable (420) can be electrically connected with the printed circuit board (410). In the first mating state, the first contact member (340) can be in contact with the second contact member (350). In the first mating state, the first contact member (340) is in contact with the second contact member (350) and electrically connected, so the first cable (420) can be electrically connected with the second contact member (350).

[0164] Referring to FIG. 9b, in the second coupled state of the connector (300) and the first cable (420), the contact pin (421) of the first cable (420) may receive a fastening force (F) from the outside and move in a direction toward the bracket (440) (e.g., in the negative Z-axis direction) compared to the first coupled state. As the contact pin (421) of the first cable (420) moves, the first contact member (340) may be elastically deformed. For example, the contact pin (421) of the first cable (420) may push the contact area (341) of the first contact member (340) in the negative Z-axis direction, so that the first contact member (340) may be elastically deformed. The first contact member (340) may be elastically deformed, and the contact area (341) of the first contact member (340) may be spaced apart from the distal end (352a) of the second contact member (350).

[0165] In one embodiment, in the second mating state of the connector (300) and the first cable (420), since the first contact member (340) and the second contact member (350) do not contact each other, the second cable (430) may not be electrically connected to the printed circuit board (410). For example, when the first contact member (340) and the second contact member (350) are in contact with each other, the second cable (430) may be electrically connected to the printed circuit board (410) through the first contact member (340) and the second contact member (350), but when the first contact member (340) and the second contact member (350) are not in contact with each other, the second cable (430) may not be electrically connected to the printed circuit board (410).

[0166] In one embodiment, in the second mating state of the connector (300) and the first cable (420), the second cable (430) is not electrically connected to the printed circuit board (410), so that an RF calibration process using the first cable (420) can be easily performed.

[0167] Referring to FIGS. 9a and 9b, a support member (440) may be placed in the negative Z-axis direction with respect to the printed circuit board (410) and the second cable (430).

[0168] The support member (440) illustrated in FIGS. 9A and 9B may refer to the support member (220) of FIG. 2 or may include at least a portion of the support member (220) of FIG. 2. For example, the support member (440) may be the first support member (221) or the second support member (222) of FIG. 2.

[0169] In one embodiment, the support member (440) may serve to support the printed circuit board (410). In one embodiment, the support member (440) may serve to fix the position of the printed circuit board (410).

[0170] Referring to FIGS. 9A and 9B, a second cable (430) according to one embodiment may be positioned between a support member (440) and a printed circuit board (410). In one embodiment, the support member (440) may include a guide structure (not shown) for fixing the position of the second cable (430).

[0171] In one embodiment, the second cable (430) may be electrically connected to the support member (440). For example, the second cable (430) may be grounded to the support member (440).

[0172] In one embodiment, the second cable (430) is grounded to the support member (440), and parasitic resonance caused by the second cable (430) can be eliminated or reduced.

[0173] In one embodiment, a conductive member (450) may be positioned between the second cable (430) and the support member (440).

[0174] In one embodiment, the conductive member (450) may be a conductive double-sided tape. In one embodiment, the conductive member (450) may include a conductive sponge.

[0175] In one embodiment, the conductive member (450) may include a conductive material to allow the second cable (430) to be grounded to the support member (440).

[0176] In one embodiment, the conductive member (450) may serve to couple the second cable (430) and the support member (440). For example, the second cable (430) may be attached to one surface of the conductive member (450), and the support member (440) may be attached to the other surface of the conductive member (450), thereby coupling the second cable (430) and the support member (440).

[0177] In one embodiment, the first cable (420) may be coupled to the first connector (310) of the connector (300) located in an opposite direction to the direction in which the support member (440) is located relative to the printed circuit board (410).

[0178] In an electronic device (200, see FIG. 2) according to one embodiment of the present disclosure, since a first cable (420) for RF calibration is coupled to a connector (300) located on a printed circuit board (410) in a direction opposite to a direction in which a support member (440) is located with respect to the printed circuit board (410), there may be no need to separate the printed circuit board (410) and the support member (440) to perform an RF calibration process.

[0179] An electronic device (200, see FIG. 2) according to one embodiment of the present disclosure can reduce the time required for an RF calibration process since there is no need to separate a printed circuit board (410) and a support member (440) to perform an RF calibration process.

[0180] In FIGS. 9A and 9B , the connector (300) is illustrated as being coupled with different types of cables (420, 430) in one direction (e.g., positive Z-axis direction) and the other direction (e.g., negative Z-axis direction), but the types of cables (420, 430) coupled to the connector (300) may not be limited thereto. For example, the connector (300) may be coupled with second cables (430) for RF signal transmission in one direction and the other direction, respectively. When the connector (300) is connected with second cables (430) for RF signal transmission in both directions, a plurality of second cables (430) can be arranged and use the space inside the electronic device (200, see FIG. 2) more efficiently.

[0181] FIGS. 10A and 10B are diagrams illustrating an electronic device (1010, 1020) according to one embodiment.

[0182] FIG. 10A is a diagram illustrating an electronic device (1010) according to a comparative example. FIG. 10B is a diagram illustrating an electronic device (1020) according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0183] Figures 11 and 12 are graphs showing noise simulation results of an electronic device (1010, 1020).

[0184] Fig. 11 may be a graph (1100) showing the results of noise simulation when noise in the 1 to 4 GHz band is implemented in an electronic device (1010, 1020). Fig. 12 may be a graph (1200) showing the results of noise simulation when noise in the 7 to 13 GHz band is implemented in an electronic device (1010, 1020).

[0185] Referring to FIG. 10A, an electronic device (1010) according to a comparative embodiment may include a cable (1011), a printed circuit board (1012), and / or a ground (1013). The cable (1011) may be a coaxial cable for transmitting a radio frequency (RF) signal.

[0186] In a comparative example, a ground (1013) may be placed on one side of a printed circuit board (1012), and a cable (1011) may be placed on the other side of the printed circuit board (1012). For example, in the electronic device (1010) of FIG. 10A, the ground (1013) may be placed in an opposite direction to the direction in which the cable (1011) is located with respect to the printed circuit board (1012).

[0187] The electronic device (1020) of FIG. 10b may refer to the electronic device (200) of FIG. 2 or may include at least some of the components of the electronic device (200) of FIG. 2.

[0188] Referring to FIG. 10b, an electronic device (1020) according to one embodiment of the present disclosure may include a cable (1021), a printed circuit board (1022), and / or a ground (1023). The cable (1021) may be a coaxial cable for transmitting a radio frequency (RF) signal.

[0189] In one embodiment, a ground (1023) and a cable (1021) may be positioned in one direction of a printed circuit board (1022). For example, in the electronic device (1020) of FIG. 10B, at least a portion of the cable (1021) may be positioned in the same direction as the direction in which the ground (1023) is positioned relative to the printed circuit board (1022).

[0190] In an electronic device (1020) according to one embodiment of the present disclosure, a cable (1021) may be grounded by contacting a ground (1023) in one direction of a printed circuit board (1022).

[0191] The horizontal axis of the graphs (1100, 1200) illustrated in FIGS. 11 and 12 may represent the frequency (e.g., gigahertz (GHz)) of noise generated from the electronic device (1010, 1020). The vertical axis of the graphs (1100, 1200) illustrated in FIGS. 11 and 12 may represent the level (e.g., decibel (dB)) of noise generated from the electronic device (1010, 1020).

[0192] Referring to the graph (1100) of FIG. 11, the first noise level (1101) may refer to a noise level when noise in the 1 to 4 GHz band is implemented in an electronic device (1010) according to a comparative example. The second noise level (1102) may refer to a noise level when noise in the 1 to 4 GHz band is implemented in an electronic device (1020) according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0193] Referring to the graph (1100) of FIG. 11, the second noise level (1102) can be formed to be substantially smaller than the first noise level (1101).

[0194] The fact that the second noise level (1102) is formed to be substantially smaller than the first noise level (1101) may mean that noise caused by the cable (1021) in the electronic device (1020) according to one embodiment of the present disclosure is reduced compared to the electronic device (1010) according to the comparative example. In the electronic device (1020) according to one embodiment of the present disclosure, since the cable (1021) is grounded by contacting the ground (1023) in one direction of the printed circuit board (1022), parasitic resonance caused by the cable (1021) is reduced, so that noise in the 1 to 4 GHz band can be substantially reduced compared to the electronic device (1010) according to the comparative example.

[0195] Referring to the graph (1200) of FIG. 12, the third noise level (1201) may refer to a noise level when noise in the 7 to 13 GHz band is implemented in an electronic device (1010) according to a comparative example. The fourth noise level (1202) may refer to a noise level when noise in the 7 to 13 GHz band is implemented in an electronic device (1020) according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.

[0196] Referring to the graph (1200) of FIG. 12, the fourth noise level (1202) may be formed to be substantially smaller than the third noise level (1201). For example, in the shaded area (1200a) on the graph (1200), the fourth noise level (1202) may be formed to be smaller than the third noise level (1201).

[0197] The fact that the fourth noise level (1202) is formed to be substantially smaller than the third noise level (1201) may mean that noise caused by the cable (1021) in the electronic device (1020) according to one embodiment of the present disclosure is reduced compared to the electronic device (1010) according to the comparative example. In the electronic device (1020) according to one embodiment of the present disclosure, since the cable (1021) is grounded by contacting the ground (1023) in one direction of the printed circuit board (1022), parasitic resonance caused by the cable (1021) is reduced, so that noise in the 7 to 13 GHz band can be substantially reduced compared to the electronic device (1010) according to the comparative example.
