Description

[0001] Safety belt for a vehicle and vehicle occupant safety system, vehicle seat and vehicle with such a safety belt

[0002] The invention relates to a safety belt for a vehicle, in particular for a multi-track motor vehicle, according to the preamble of patent claim 1. Furthermore, the invention relates to a vehicle occupant safety system, a vehicle seat and a vehicle with such a safety belt.

[0003] A safety belt of the type mentioned above is made, for example, of

[0004] EP 1 479 570 B1. The known safety belt comprises a belt element with a lap belt section, to which a gas bag package is attached. The gas bag package carries an inflatable gas bag, which, as an airbag, forms a vehicle occupant safety device.

[0005] With the development of new vehicle generations, the demand for seat belts with integrated airbag packages is increasing. Vehicle developments with a view to autonomous driving in particular are enabling new types of interior geometries in vehicles, meaning that the classic arrangement of vehicle seats can be abolished. In particular, it is to be expected that in future vehicle generations, for example, a steering wheel will be dispensed with, as the vehicles will move autonomously. However, this eliminates the option of installing an airbag or airbag package in such a way that vehicle occupants are well protected. In the case of a airbag package in a steering wheel, for example, the steering wheel serves as a support for the airbag package or the inflated airbag. The same applies to a airbag package that is installed in a dashboard on the passenger side of a motor vehicle. Essential for the function of the airbag package or airbag package is the design of the airbag package.of the gas bag contained therein is that the gas bag is correctly positioned relative to the vehicle occupant when it is deployed. With previous gas bag packages that are integrated into a dashboard or steering wheel, this correct positioning is easily ensured by the arrangement of the seat and dashboard. However, with gas bag packages on seat belts such a correct position cannot always be guaranteed because the lap belt section of the seat belt to which the gas bag package is mounted changes in length depending on the size of the vehicle occupant. As a result, for some vehicle occupants the gas bag package is not exactly centered, but shifts towards the end fitting of the seat belt for people with a more robust build. For slimmer people, on the other hand, the gas bag package lies more towards the buckle tongue. In both cases, however, the gas bag does not inflate centrally in front of the vehicle occupant, so that the vehicle occupant cannot be safely cushioned by the gas bag.

[0006] The object of the invention is therefore to provide a safety belt for a vehicle that, by means of a gas bag package mounted on the safety belt, provides essentially equivalent protection for persons of different body types. The object of the invention is also to provide a vehicle occupant safety system, a vehicle seat, and a vehicle with such a safety belt.

[0007] According to the invention, this object is achieved with regard to the safety belt by the subject matter of patent claim 1, with regard to the vehicle occupant safety system by the subject matter of patent claim 12, with regard to the vehicle seat by the subject matter of patent claim 13 and with regard to the vehicle by the subject matter of patent claim 15.

[0008] Thus, the invention is specifically based on the idea of providing a safety belt for a vehicle, in particular for a multi-track motor vehicle, with a belt element that has at least one lap belt section extending between a buckle tongue for a belt buckle and an end fitting and supports a gas bag package with an inflatable gas bag. The invention is characterized by the provision of a centering device, wherein the gas bag package is mounted on the lap belt section for longitudinal displacement, and a position of the gas bag package relative to the lap belt section can be adjusted by the centering device.

[0009] In the invention, the airbag package is not permanently attached to the lap belt section, but rather is arranged so that it can be moved longitudinally. In this respect, the airbag package is slidably connected to the lap belt section, so that the position of the airbag package relative to the lap belt section can be changed or adjusted. This has the advantage that the centering device ensures that the airbag package is centrally aligned regardless of the body type of the vehicle occupant to be protected. This expands the application possibilities of such a safety belt, particularly with regard to different vehicle occupants. For example, children or smaller people can be protected just as easily as larger or corpulent people.

[0010] In general, it can be provided that the position of the airbag package can be adjusted by means of a manually operated centering device. In this respect, the centering device can comprise an indicator which shows the correct position of the airbag package in relation to the lap belt section. The position of the airbag package can then be adjusted manually, with the indicator showing a vehicle occupant when the correct position has been reached. The manual positioning of the airbag package relative to the lap belt section can also be supported by arranging disruptive contours on the airbag package which are configured in such a way that they trigger an annoying feeling in a vehicle occupant if the airbag package is not positioned correctly. Only in the correct position relative to the lap belt section and / or relative to the vehicle occupant will the disruptive contours not disrupt the comfort of the vehicle occupant. In general, it can also be provided that sensors monitor the position of the gas bag package relative to the lap belt section and / or the vehicle occupant and emit a warning signal, for example a warning tone, if the gas bag package is not correctly positioned.

[0011] However, in a particularly preferred embodiment of the invention, the centering device comprises two tension-elastic compensating elements, wherein the airbag package is connected via the compensating elements to the lock tongue on the one hand and the end fitting on the other. The tension-elastic compensating elements ensure automatic centering of the airbag package between the lock tongue and the end fitting, thus centrally aligning the airbag package relative to the respective vehicle occupant. However, when aligning the airbag package, the airbag package moves along the lap belt section, allowing the position of the airbag package relative to the lap section to be adjusted.

[0012] In this respect, it is particularly preferred if the output elements have identical spring constants. The compensating elements are stretchable due to their tension-elastic properties and can thus adapt to the body type of the respective vehicle occupant. The identical spring constants ensure that the distance between the end fitting and the airbag package and the distance between the buckle tongue and the airbag package are essentially the same. Regardless of the length of the lap belt section, which adapts to the body type of the respective vehicle occupant, a central alignment of the airbag package with respect to the vehicle occupant is thus automatically achieved.

[0013] At least one of the compensating elements can comprise a helical tension spring or a band, in particular an elastic band or a cord. The band can in particular be a rubber band. It is also possible for both compensating elements to comprise a helical tension spring and / or a band or a cord. In particular, the compensating elements can be of identical design.

[0014] In one variant, for example, it can be provided that the compensating element has a helical tension spring and a cord. The tension spring-elastic properties are provided by the helical tension spring. The cord can essentially create a connection between the helical tension spring and the airbag package as a tensile-resistant element. In this respect, it is preferred if the helical tension spring is connected to the end fitting or the buckle tongue, in particular is connected directly. This has the advantage that the helical tension spring is not arranged in a central region of the lap belt section, which could lead to reduced comfort for a vehicle occupant. Instead, the cord or band is preferably arranged in this region, whereby the cord and band are well adapted to the belt element due to their flexibility and therefore hardly impair the comfort of the vehicle occupant.Another variant provides for the compensating element to be formed by an elastic band, in particular a rubber band, which extends between the end fitting and the airbag package or between the buckle tongue and the airbag package. The elastic band has the advantage that, due to its flexibility, it adapts well to the belt element and therefore hardly affects the comfort of the vehicle occupants. In contrast, a coil tension spring can potentially exert a greater spring force on the airbag package, thus achieving improved centering. Both variants have their advantages, which can be used on a case-by-case basis. Depending on the specific vehicle design, a specialist selects whether the seat belt should be equipped with a coil tension spring and / or an elastic band, in particular a rubber band.

[0015] It may be particularly preferred if the coil tension spring is connected to the end fitting or the lock tongue on the one hand and to the strap, in particular a rubber strap, or the cord on the other hand, with the strap or cord being connected to the airbag package. This design proves particularly advantageous in practice because it allows the coil tension spring to achieve a comparatively high spring force, which reliably positions the airbag package centrally with respect to the vehicle occupant. At the same time, the coil tension spring is arranged in an area that has little or no impact on the comfort of the vehicle occupant.

[0016] In order to protect the compensating elements and at the same time reduce the risk of injury from direct contact with the compensating elements, an advantageous embodiment of the invention can provide for the compensating elements and the airbag package to be arranged in a common, in particular elastic, airbag cover. The airbag cover can be made of a textile, for example, and have a correspondingly high level of flexibility so that it adapts well to the respective length of the compensating element. It is also advantageous if the airbag cover has a certain degree of elasticity so that if the distance between the airbag package and the end fitting or between the airbag package and the lock tongue is shortened, hardly any wrinkles form in the airbag cover. In this respect, rubber-elastic elements can be incorporated into the airbag cover so that the airbag cover adapts to the increasing distance between the end fitting and the airbag package orthe lock tongue and the airbag package. In a further embodiment of the invention, it can be provided that the compensating elements are integrated into the airbag shell in such a way that lateral, elastic end sections of the airbag shell each form a compensating element. The airbag shell itself, with the lateral end sections, can therefore ensure centering of the airbag package along the lap belt section. In this case, it is particularly preferred if the lap belt section also extends through the airbag shell, wherein the airbag package can be moved along the lap belt section. The airbag package can, for example, be firmly connected to the airbag shell, wherein the lap belt section is loosely arranged in the airbag shell. The airbag can thus be moved along the lap belt section due to the elasticity of the end sections of the airbag shell. In this context, it is particularly preferred if a first elastic end section of the gas bag cover is connected to the end fitting and a second elastic end section of the gas bag cover is connected to the lock tongue.

[0017] In general, the distance between the end fitting and the buckle tongue, i.e., the length of the lap belt section, is determined by the physique of the vehicle occupant, particularly their body circumference. By connecting a compensating element to the end fitting and the airbag assembly, and a second compensating element to the buckle tongue and the airbag assembly, the airbag assembly is self-centered along the lap belt section. Regardless of the length of the lap belt section, the airbag assembly is thus positioned centered relative to the vehicle occupant and can fully fulfill its safety function.

[0018] In order not to negatively affect the flexibility of the seat belt, it is particularly preferred if the gas generator for the gas bag package is arranged outside the seat belt. In this respect, a preferred embodiment of the invention provides that the gas bag has a hose-like connecting piece for a fluid-tight connection to a gas generator. In particular, the hose-like connecting piece can be connectable to an inflation hose that leads to a gas generator. The gas generated in the gas generator is thus guided via the inflation hose and the hose-like connecting piece to the gas bag, which inflates as a result of the inflowing gas. In general, the seat belt can be designed as a lap belt, also referred to as a two-point belt, or as a three-point belt.In a three-point belt configuration, the belt element of the safety belt comprises not only the lap belt section but also a chest belt section that extends between a belt retractor and the buckle tongue. The length of the chest belt section, like the length of the lap belt section, is preferably variable, allowing the three-point belt to adapt to the body type of the individual vehicle occupant.

[0019] In particular, the lock tongue can be arranged to be longitudinally displaceable along the belt element and divide the belt element into the lap belt section and a chest belt section.

[0020] In a further variant of the invention, it can be provided that the centering device is formed by a crotch strap which is connected to the airbag package and can be connected to a seat frame. In particular, the crotch strap can be connected to the airbag cover. The crotch strap can in particular be positioned such that it extends between the legs of a vehicle occupant, so that it acts essentially like a crotch strap of a five-point belt. Since the crotch strap is connected to the airbag package, which in turn is slidably mounted along the lap belt section, automatic centering of the airbag package relative to the lap belt section is achieved by connecting the crotch strap to the seat frame and guiding the crotch strap between the legs of the vehicle occupant.

[0021] A secondary aspect of the invention relates to a vehicle occupant safety system with a previously described safety belt. Furthermore, within the scope of the present application, a vehicle seat for a motor vehicle, in particular for a multi-track motor vehicle, with a seat frame and an aforementioned vehicle occupant safety system or a previously described safety belt is disclosed and claimed. In the vehicle seat according to the invention, it can preferably be provided that the gas bag is connected via an inflation hose to a gas generator that is fastened to the seat frame. The seat frame can in particular comprise a seat surface and a backrest. The backrest can be adjustable relative to the seat surface.Furthermore, one aspect of the present invention relates to a vehicle, in particular a multi-track motor vehicle, with a previously described vehicle seat, a previously described vehicle occupant safety system or a previously described safety belt.

[0022] The invention will be explained in more detail below using exemplary embodiments with reference to the accompanying drawings.

[0030] Fig. 5 is a schematic front view of a safety belt according to another preferred embodiment;

[0031] Fig. 6a-6c each show a schematic front view of a safety belt according to the invention in the operating position with different positioning of a gas bag package.

[0032] In Fig. 1, a safety belt 1 is shown which comprises a belt element 10.

[0033] The belt element 10 extends from a belt retractor 21 to an end fitting 22. A buckle tongue 13, which can be connected to a belt buckle, is arranged slidably along the belt element 10. The buckle tongue 13 divides the belt element 10 into a lap belt section 11 and a chest belt section 12. Depending on the position of the buckle tongue 13, the length of the lap belt section 11 and chest belt section 12 changes. In particular, the length of the lap belt section 11 is adjustable to accommodate the body type of a vehicle occupant.

[0034] The seat belt 1 further comprises a gas bag package 30, which is arranged longitudinally displaceably on the lap belt section 11. The gas bag package 30 is slidably mounted on the lap belt section 11, so that the position of the gas bag package 30 along the lap belt section 11 is variable.

[0035] The gas bag package 30 comprises a gas bag 35, which is fluid-tightly connected to an inflation hose 32 via a hose-like connector 36. For this purpose, an end piece of the inflation hose 32 is inserted into the hose-like connector 35 and secured there by means of retaining rings 33 in a force-locking and / or positive-locking manner, but at least in a fluid-tight manner. The inflation hose 32 connects the gas bag package 30 in a fluid-tight manner to a gas generator 31, which is preferably attached separately from the seat belt 1 in a vehicle. For example, the gas generator 31 can be attached to a seat frame 20.

[0036] The exploded view according to Fig. 1 also shows a gas distributor 34, which is essentially designed as a tubular element. The gas distributor 34 can have one or more gas outlet openings and preferably extends within the gas bag package 30. In particular, the gas distributor 34 can extend from the hose-like connecting piece 36 into the gas bag 35 and thus evenly distribute the gas generated in the gas generator 31 and fed to the gas bag package 30 via the filling hose 32 within the gas bag 35. This ensures a uniform opening of the gas bag 35.

[0037] In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1, the seat belt 1 has a centering device 40 formed by elastic bands, in particular rubber bands 47. The airbag package 30 is connected to the end fitting 22 on the one hand and the buckle tongue 13 on the other hand by at least one rubber band. The rubber bands 47 form compensating elements 41 that provide length compensation.

[0038] Specifically, in the embodiment shown in Fig. 1, two rubber bands 47 are provided that connect the airbag assembly 30 to the latch plate 13. The rubber bands 47 can be connected directly to the latch plate 13. Furthermore, two additional rubber bands 47 are provided that connect the airbag assembly 30 to a fastening element 48. The fastening element 48 is preferably firmly connected to the end fitting 22. Thus, the rubber bands 47 connect the end fitting 22 to the airbag assembly 30.

[0039] To protect the compensating elements 41 and rubber bands 47, a gas bag cover 44 is provided. The gas bag cover 44 preferably encloses the compensating elements 41 and rubber bands 47, as well as the gas bag package 30. The gas bag cover 44 can be made of a textile material. It is also possible for the gas bag cover 44 itself to have elastic properties.

[0040] The elastic properties of the compensating elements 41 ensure that the airbag package 30 is centrally aligned with respect to the buckle tongue 13 and the end fitting 22. For this purpose, the compensating elements 41, which are tension-elastic, are provided with essentially identical spring constants. Identical spring constants are also referred to as identical elasticities within the scope of the application. Spring constants or elasticities are identical within the meaning of the application even if they differ from one another by up to 20%. In any case, the compensating elements 41 preferably exert identical tensile forces on the airbag package 30, so that a central alignment of the airbag package 30 between the end fitting 22 and the buckle tongue 13 is achieved, essentially independent of the length of the lap belt section 11.

[0041] Fig. 1 shows a schematic front view of a seat frame 20 which comprises a seat surface 23 and a seat back 24. In the exemplary embodiment according to Fig. 2, the safety belt 1 is designed as a three-point belt and extends from a belt retractor 21 via a buckle tongue 13 to an end fitting 22. The buckle tongue 13 is arranged displaceably along the belt element 10 and divides the latter into a chest belt section 12 and a lap belt section 11. The lap belt section 11 runs essentially over the seat surface 13, whereas the chest belt section 12 runs essentially diagonally over the seat back 24.

[0042] For reasons of clarity, the centering device 40 is not shown in Fig. 2. However, the airbag package 35 is shown, which is aligned essentially centrally between the end fitting 22 and the buckle tongue 13. The end fitting 22 and the belt buckle, which receives the buckle tongue 13, are preferably positioned such that, when the airbag package 35 is aligned centrally along the lap belt section 11, the airbag package 30 is also aligned centrally with the seat frame 20. Such a centered alignment of the airbag package 30, in particular the airbag 35, is shown in Fig. 2.

[0043] Fig. 2 shows, in particular, the gas bag 35 in an inflated state. It can be seen that the gas bag 35 can effectively exert its protective effect thanks to this centered alignment. An off-center arrangement of the gas bag package 30 would result in the gas bag 35 not opening centered relative to the seat frame 20, but rather being displaced laterally if, for example, the vehicle occupant has a larger or smaller body circumference than is standard. When the gas bag 35 inflates, it would then extend diagonally and could possibly be arranged in such a way that a vehicle occupant slides past the gas bag 35, thus providing no or only inadequate protection.

[0044] Fig. 3 shows a further embodiment of a safety belt 1, wherein the belt element 10 is omitted for reasons of clarity. Shown are only the end fitting 22 and the buckle tongue 13 as well as the airbag package 30 arranged between the end fitting 22 and the buckle tongue 13, which is connected to the end fitting 22 and the buckle tongue 13 via a centering device 40. The centering device 40 comprises two compensating elements 41, wherein a first compensating element 41 connects the airbag package 30 to the end fitting 22 and a second compensating element 41 connects the airbag package 30 to the buckle tongue 20. In this embodiment, the compensating elements 41 are formed by a combination of a cord 43 and a helical tension spring 42. The helical tension spring 42 is directly connected to the end fitting 22 or the lock tongue 13.The connection between the helical tension spring 42 and the gas bag package 30 is then made via a cord 43. The helical tension spring 42 and the cord 43 are preferably each arranged in the gas bag cover 44.

[0045] The cord 43 is preferably not elastic or flexurally elastic, at least not to a significant degree. Rather, the spring force or tension spring force that ensures centering of the airbag package 30 is applied by the helical tension springs 42 in the embodiment shown in Fig. 3. The helical tension springs 42 have identical spring constants, so that the airbag package automatically aligns itself centrally between the end fitting 22 and the lock tongue 13.

[0046] Fig. 4 shows a further embodiment of a safety belt 1 according to the invention, wherein the safety belt 1 is designed in essential parts analogously to the embodiment according to Fig. 1. In particular, the safety belt 1 has a belt element 10 that extends from a belt buckle 21 to an end fitting 22. The belt element 10 preferably passes through a belt guide 25, which can be fixed, for example, in a B-pillar of a motor vehicle. The belt element 10 also carries the belt buckle 13, which is longitudinally displaceable along the belt element 10 and divides the belt element 10 into the lap belt section 11 and the chest belt section 12.

[0047] A gas bag package 30 is mounted on the lap belt section 11 for longitudinal displacement or sliding movement. The gas bag package 30 comprises a gas bag 35 and a hose-like connector 36. A gas distributor 34 can also be arranged within the gas bag package 30. The hose-like connector 36 can be connected to an inflation hose 32, which establishes the connection to a gas generator 31. The inflation hose 32 is attached to the connector 36 via retaining rings 33.

[0048] In the exemplary embodiment according to Fig. 4, the centering device 40 is formed by a crotch strap 14, which is connected on the one hand to the airbag package 30 and on the other hand to a crotch belt buckle tongue 15. Specifically, the crotch strap 14 extends from the airbag package 30 to the crotch belt buckle tongue 15, which can be connected to a crotch belt buckle, which can be arranged on a seat frame 20. Preferably, the crotch belt buckle is fastened to the seat frame 20 or at least in its vicinity such that the crotch belt 14 extends between the legs of a vehicle occupant when closed. In this respect, the crotch belt 14 forms a crotch belt 14, as is known, for example, from five-point belts.

[0049] Since the gas bag package 30 is mounted so as to slide along the lap belt section 11, connecting the crotch belt buckle tongue 15 to a crotch belt buckle ensures that the gas bag package 30 is centered between the end fitting 22 and the buckle tongue 13. The gas bag package 30 is thus correctly positioned to exert its protective effect. Another possibility for a centering device 40 is shown in Fig. 5. Fig. 5 shows a front view of a seat frame 20 with a seat surface 23 and a seat back 24. The seat back 24 can also support a headrest 26. A lap belt section 11 of a belt element 10 of the safety belt 1 extends transversely across the seat surface 23. The gas bag package 30 is mounted so as to slide or be longitudinally displaceable on the lap belt section 11.A marking 49 serves as the centering device 40, which should correspond to a corresponding further marking on the seat frame 20 in order to specify the correct position of the gas bag package 30 for the safety of a vehicle occupant.

[0050] Specifically, it can be provided that a marking 49 is arranged on each of the seat frame 20 and the airbag package 30, with the centering being performed manually by the vehicle occupant. A vehicle occupant is therefore required to align the markings 49, thereby ensuring that the airbag package 30 is correctly positioned along the lap belt section 11.

[0051] It is also possible to monitor the conformity of the markings 49. For this purpose, sensors can be provided, for example, to detect the correct position of the gas bag package 30 relative to the seat frame 20. It is also possible for the sensor system to include video surveillance with corresponding digital image analysis, which detects whether the markings 49 on the gas bag package 30 and the seat frame 20 are aligned. In the event that there is no alignment, but a person is detected on the seat frame 20 or the seat surface 23, for example, by a weight sensor, a warning tone can be triggered to indicate the incorrect position of the gas bag package 30.

[0052] Fig. 6a-6c show a further possibility for manually centering the gas bag package 30. In Fig. 6a-6c, a seat frame 20 is shown, which comprises a seat back 24 and a seat surface 23. A safety belt 1 in the form of a three-point belt is stretched over the seat frame 20. The safety belt 1 comprises a belt retractor 21 and an end fitting 22, wherein a belt element 10 of the safety belt 1 runs from the belt retractor 21 via a buckle tongue 13 to the end fitting 22. The buckle tongue 13 divides the belt element into a lap belt section 11 and a chest belt section 12. The gas bag package 30 with the gas bag 35, which is shown in the inflated state in Fig. 6a-6c, is arranged in the lap belt section 11. In order to encourage a vehicle occupant to align the gas bag package 35 centered between the end fitting 22 and the lock tongue 13, interference contours 37 are provided on the gas bag package 30 or on the gas bag 35.The disruptive contours 37 are designed to create an uncomfortable feeling when the airbag package 30 is positioned off-center. A vehicle occupant therefore feels uncomfortable if the airbag package is not positioned centrally.

[0053] Fig. 6a shows an example in which the airbag package 30 is arranged closer to the end fitting 22. In this orientation, the interfering contours 37 can, for example, exert pressure on the thighs or pelvis of a vehicle occupant, so that the vehicle occupant feels compelled to move the airbag package 30 along the lap belt section 11, preferably to the position shown in Fig. 6b. Should a vehicle occupant move the airbag package 30 beyond the position shown in Fig. 6b, for example to the position shown in Fig. 6c, the interfering contours 37 again act to impair the wearing comfort of the seat belt 1. In other words, even in the position shown in Fig. 6c, the seat belt 1 is uncomfortable to wear, whereby the interfering contours 37 can, for example, press into the thighs or pelvis of a vehicle occupant. Only in the position shown in Fig.6b, if the disturbing contours 37 are aligned substantially uniformly over the body of the vehicle occupant, no disturbing or comfort-impairing feeling is triggered by the disturbing contours 37.
