AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing air duct components for vehicle air conditioning and sensor cleaning systems are challenging to manufacture due to space limitations, requiring irregular shapes that are costly to produce with blow moulding and lack precision with injection moulding. Additionally, existing components struggle to ensure a sealed connection with nozzles due to material limitations.

Method used

The air duct component is designed by dividing the air duct housing into multiple parts, such as a first and second housing half, allowing each part to be made via injection moulding. This approach reduces manufacturing costs and achieves high dimensional precision. A sealing member with structural strength and flexibility is integrated at the outlet to ensure a sealed connection with nozzles.

Benefits of technology

This design achieves a cost-effective, high-precision air duct component that can accommodate irregular shapes and ensure a sealed connection with nozzles, addressing the limitations of existing manufacturing methods and material constraints.

Description

Air duct component and air delivery assemblyTechnical Field

[0001] The present disclosure relates to an air duct component, and an air delivery assembly comprising the air duct component. Background

[0002] Air duct components are important constituent parts of vehicle air conditioning and sensor cleaning systems. Due to space limitations in a vehicle body, most air duct components are irregular in shape, and may be referred to as irregularly shaped air duct components. Generally, air duct components may be made by an injection moulding process or a blow moulding process. The injection moulding process is low in cost and forms products with high dimensional precision, but is somewhat limited with regard to the spatial structure of air duct components, and is not suitable for making air duct components of irregular shape. The blow moulding process is capable of making irregularly shaped air duct components, but is high in cost and produces products with poor dimensional precision, as well as being somewhat limited with regard to material and product thickness.

[0003] In addition, the outlet of an air duct component generally has a nozzle plugged into it; this requires the air duct component to be of a certain strength while also being flexible to a degree in the region where the nozzle is plugged in, so that the nozzle can be inserted in the air duct component in a sealed manner, and the assembly tolerance between the nozzle and the air duct component can be compensated for. However, most existing air duct components are made of plastic; this makes it impossible to ensure sealing at the junction between the nozzle and the air duct component, and to compensate for the assembly tolerance therebetween. There are also air duct components that are made of rubber; this causes the air duct component to be too soft, making it difficult to insert the nozzle or another  component.

[0004] Thus, the issue of how to design an irregularly shaped air duct component with a reduced manufacturing cost and high dimensional precision and structural strength, in which a nozzle can be plugged in a sealed manner, and which allows an assembly tolerance between the air duct component and the nozzle to be compensated for, has become a problem in urgent need of solution.Summary of the Invention

[0005] An objective of the present disclosure is to provide an air duct component of irregular shape; as a result of dividing an air duct housing into multiple parts such as a first housing half and a second housing half, both the first housing half and the second housing half can be made by an injection moulding process; the manufacturing cost is low, and the product obtained has high dimensional precision, making it possible to avoid the problem of the injection moulding process being limited by the spatial structure of the air duct component. Furthermore, the air duct component may further comprise a sealing member disposed at an outlet of the air duct housing, with structural strength being provided by the air duct housing of high hardness, and flexibility at the junction being provided by the sealing member, to facilitate insertion of a nozzle into the air duct component and ensure sealing performance at the junction.

[0006] The present disclosure provides an air duct component, comprising: an air duct housing, having an inlet, an outlet and an air duct between the inlet and the outlet, the air duct housing comprising: a first housing half; and a second housing half, wherein the first housing half and the second housing half both extend from the inlet to the outlet, and are fixed to each other, so as to define the air duct between the first housing half and the second housing half.

[0007] In the air duct component of the present disclosure, as a result of dividing the air duct housing into multiple parts such as the first and second housing halves, each part can be made by an injection moulding process; the manufacturing cost is low, and the product obtained has high dimensional precision, making it possible to avoid the problem of the injection moulding process being limited by the spatial  structure of the air duct component.

[0048] To provide a clearer understanding of the present disclosure, embodiments of the present disclosure are described in specific terms below in conjunction with the drawings.

[0049] The present disclosure provides an irregularly shaped air duct component 1; referring to Figs. 1 and 2, the air duct component 1 comprises an air duct housing H.The air duct housing H may be made of a plastic of high hardness; the air duct housing H has an inlet H1 (which may also be called an air inlet) for connecting to an air source, an outlet H2 (which may also be called an air outlet) for connecting to a plug-in component such as a nozzle, and an air duct between the inlet H1 and the outlet H2. The air duct housing H comprises a first housing half 10 and a second  housing half 20; the first housing half 10 and the second housing half 20 both extend from the inlet H1 to the outlet H2 and are fixed to each other, so as to define the air duct between the first housing half 10 and the second housing half 20. With this design, in which the irregularly shaped air duct component 1 and in particular the air duct housing H of the air duct component 1 is divided into two parts (i.e. the first housing half 10 and the second housing half 10) , each part can be made by an injection moulding process; the manufacturing cost is low, and the product obtained has high dimensional precision, thus avoiding the problem of the injection moulding process being limited by the spatial structure of the air duct component.

[0050] Referring to Figs. 2 and 3, the first housing half 10 may be substantially inverted-U-shaped, and the second housing half 20 may be substantially U-shaped; the two housing halves are butt-joined at interface edges, and may be fixed together by means of first fixing members 101. The first fixing members 101 (of which there are 10 in the description herein, but without limitation) may be distributed along outer sides of the interface edges of the first housing half 10 and the second housing half 20, such that the first and second housing halves 10 and 20 are not restricted by limited vehicle body space when being fixed, thus avoiding interference with the vehicle body.

[0051] Specifically, the first fixing member 101 may comprise a protrusion 12 and a tab 22, which are able to mate with each other. The protrusions 12 are disposed on the first housing half 10, and arranged along the outer side of the interface edge of the first housing half 10. Correspondingly, the tabs 22 are disposed on the second housing half 20, and arranged along the outer side of the interface edge of the second housing half 20. The tabs 22 can snap onto / engage with the protrusions 12, so as to fix the first housing half 10 and the second housing half 20 together; this method of assembly is easy to operate and structurally simple. Of course, the present disclosure is not limited to this. For example, the protrusions 12 could be disposed on the second housing half 20, with the tabs 22 being correspondingly disposed on the first housing half 10; it suffices that the first housing half 10 and the second housing half 20 can be fixed together.

[0052] Continuing to refer to Figs. 1 and 2, the outlet H2 of the air duct component  1 is substantially in the form of an elongated opening, and therefore easily deforms under the action of external force. To avoid this problem, a second fixing member 102 (of which there are two in the description herein, but without limitation) may be further provided in the interior of the air duct component 1. The second fixing member 102 is near the outlet H2 of the air duct component 1, and comprises a first plug-in member (not shown) disposed on an inner wall of the first housing half 10 and facing towards the second housing half 20, and a second plug-in member 23 disposed on an inner wall of the second housing half 20 and facing towards the first housing half 10; the second plug-in member 23 can be fixedly plugged into the first plug-in member, so as to support and lock the first housing half 10 and the second housing half 20, thereby effectively increasing the structural strength and the stability of the air duct component 1. Of course, the present disclosure is not limited to this. For example, the first plug-in member could be disposed on the inner wall of the second housing half 20, with the second plug-in member 23 being correspondingly disposed on the first housing half 10; or the air duct component 1 may have no second fixing member 102, with a reinforcement rib being provided on the first housing half 10 or the second housing half 20 to abut the other housing half (wherein the reinforcement rib extends in the direction of the air duct) ; it suffices that the structural strength and the stability of the air duct component 1 can be increased.

[0053] Referring to Figs. 4 and 5, preferably, to improve sealing between the first housing half 10 and the second housing half 20 at the junction therebetween, a projection 11 may be provided on the interface edge of one of the first housing half 10 and the second housing half 20, with a slot 21 being provided on the interface edge of the other, the slot being capable of receiving the projection 11. The projection 11 is located in the slot 21, and abuts and presses tightly against at least one surface of the slot 21, or the projection 11 may be inserted in the slot 21 in an interference fit. The area of contact between the first housing half 10 and the second housing half 20 can thus be increased, improving sealing therebetween; and even if the interface edges of the first housing half 10 and the second housing half 20 are not fitted tightly together due to manufacturing tolerances or some other reason,  the above-described configuration of the projection 11 and the slot 21 can still ensure sealing at the junction between the first and second housing halves 10 and 20.In this embodiment, the projection 11 is disposed on the first housing half 10, the slot 21 is correspondingly disposed on the second housing half 20, and two side walls of the projection 11 are in abutment / atight fit with two side walls of the slot 12, so as to improve sealing at the junction between the first housing half 10 and the second housing half 20. Of course, the present disclosure is not limited to the structure described above. For example, the interface edges of the first housing half 10 and the second housing half 20 could be respectively provided with multiple projections 11 and slots 21, or respectively provided with sawtooth-shaped structures that mate with each other; it suffices that sealing at the junction between the two housing halves can be improved.

[0054] Referring to Fig. 2 again, the air duct component 1 may further comprise a sealing member 30, substantially in the form of a short pipe. The sealing member 30 may be made of a rubber material, of a lower hardness than plastic. The sealing member 30 is at least partially disposed between the first housing half 10 and the second housing half 20, and located at the outlet H2 of the air duct housing H, for the purpose of enabling a plug-in component such as a nozzle to be connected to the air duct housing H in a sealed manner when the plug-in component is plugged into the outlet H2.

[0055] In an embodiment, as shown in Fig. 9, an inner wall of the sealing member 30 may be provided with at least one first annular projection 31 located upstream (of which there are two in the description herein, but without limitation) and at least one second annular projection 32 located downstream (of which there are two in the description herein, but without limitation) . With this configuration, when a plug-in component such as a nozzle is inserted in the outlet H2, sealing between the nozzle and the air duct housing H can be further improved; furthermore, when the plug-in component such as a nozzle has a large assembly tolerance, compensation can be achieved by means of the first and second annular projections 31 and 32.

[0056] In another embodiment, as shown in Figs. 14 and 15, the sealing member 30  may comprise a flat-ring-shaped main body 33, and a flange 34 extending outwards transversely (in the up / down directions as shown in the figures) from the flat-ring-shaped main body 33. With this configuration, sealing can be achieved by means of the flat-ring-shaped main body 33 and the flange 34 when a plug-in component such as a nozzle is inserted in the outlet H2, so as to effectively improve sealing between the nozzle and the air duct housing H.

[0057] As can be seen, in the irregularly shaped air duct component 1 provided in the present disclosure, as a result of dividing the air duct housing H into the first housing half and the second housing half, both the first housing half and the second housing half can be made by an injection moulding process; the manufacturing cost is low, and the product obtained has high dimensional precision, making it possible to avoid the problem of the injection moulding process being limited by the spatial structure of the air duct component. The air duct component 1 of the present disclosure may further comprise the sealing member 30 disposed at the outlet, thus making it possible to ensure sealing between the air duct housing H and a plug-in component such as a nozzle when the plug-in component is plugged in. Moreover, the flow duct component 1 of the present disclosure may be provided with structural strength by the air duct housing H which is of high hardness, and provided with junction flexibility by the sealing member 30, so as to ensure sealing performance. In addition, in the present disclosure, the first fixing parts 101 are provided at an outer side of the interface edges of the first and second housing halves 10 and 20, wherein the first fixing parts 101 comprise the protrusions 12 and tabs 22 which mate with each other. This facilitates assembly of the first and second housing components 10 and 20, and the configuration described above is also not restricted by limited vehicle body space, so interference with the vehicle body can be avoided. Furthermore, in the present disclosure, the projection 11 and the slot 21 which mate with each other may be further provided on the interface edges of the first and second housing halves 10 and 20, so as to effectively improve sealing at the junction between the first and second housing halves 10 and 20.

[0058] The present disclosure further provides an air delivery assembly; embodiments of the air delivery assembly of the present disclosure are described  below with reference to the drawings.

[0059] Referring to Figs. 6 and 7, the air delivery assembly comprises the abovementioned air duct component 1, and a nozzle 2. The nozzle 2 may be partially inserted in the outlet H2 of the air duct component 1, and connected to the air duct component 1 in a sealed manner. Figs. 6 and 7 also show an air source 3 (e.g. a blower, etc. ) , the air source 3 being connected to the inlet H1 of the air duct component 1 in the air delivery assembly, so as to deliver / eject air (wind) to a specific position via the air delivery assembly.

[0060] Referring to Figs. 8 and 9, the nozzle 2 is inserted in the outlet H2 of the air duct housing H, and a sealing member 30 is clamped between the nozzle 2 and the air duct housing H, so as to ensure sealing at the junction between the air duct component 1 and the nozzle 2. Specifically, the sealing member 30 may be substantially in the form of a short pipe, and is located in the outlet H2 of the air duct component 1. Preferably, as stated above, an inner wall of the sealing member 30 may be provided with at least one first annular projection 31 located upstream and at least one second annular projection 32 located downstream. Thus, any deviation in the installation of the nozzle 2 can be compensated for by means of the first and second annular projections 31 and 32, to ensure sealing at the junction more effectively.

[0061] Specifically, when the nozzle 2 is installed in such a way as to be located at position 2'in Fig. 10 (i.e. the nozzle 2 has an anticlockwise installation deviation) , a lower part of the nozzle 2 close to the second housing half 20 abuts and presses tightly against the first annular projection 31 of the sealing member 3, and an upper part of the nozzle 2 close to the first housing half 10 abuts and presses tightly against the second annular projection 32 of the sealing member 3. In this way, sealing at the junction between the nozzle 2 and the air duct component 1 can be ensured effectively. When the nozzle 2 is installed at position 2" in Fig. 10 (i.e. the nozzle 2 has a clockwise installation deviation) , an upper part of the nozzle 2 close to the first housing half 10 abuts and presses tightly against the first annular projection 31 of the sealing member 3, and a lower part of the nozzle 2 close to the second housing half 20 abuts and presses tightly against the second annular  projection 32 of the sealing member 3, to ensure sealing at the junction. As can be seen, the above-described configuration of the sealing member 3 can ensure sealing at the junction when the nozzle 2 has an installation deviation.

[0062] Continuing to refer to Figs. 9 and 10, a first boss 201 surrounding the nozzle 2 may be provided on a peripheral wall of the nozzle 2, the first boss 201 being used to further abut the sealing member 3, so as to further improve sealing at the junction between the nozzle 2 and the air duct component 1. In the sectional drawings shown in Figs. 9 and 10, the first boss 201 may be substantially in the shape of an arc-shaped projection, to facilitate insertion into the outlet H2 of the air duct component 1; and when the nozzle 2 has an installation deviation, the configuration of the first boss 201 can also ensure sealing at the junction between the nozzle 2 and the air duct component 1. In an embodiment, the first boss 201 of the nozzle 2 may be located between the first annular projection 31 and the second annular projection 32 of the sealing member 3, to further ensure sealing at the junction.

[0063] Different embodiments of the air delivery assembly of the present disclosure are described below. For simplicity, the detailed description below focuses on differences between embodiments; identical features are not described again. In addition, identical elements in the embodiments of the present disclosure are marked with identical labels, to facilitate comparison of the embodiments.

[0064] Fig. 11 shows another embodiment of the air delivery assembly. As shown in the figure, the air delivery assembly comprises an air delivery component 1, and a nozzle 2 connected to the outlet H2 of the air duct component 1 in a sealed manner. The air duct component 1 in this embodiment differs from the embodiment shown in Fig. 7 in that the shape of the inlet H1 of the air duct component 1 is different; in this embodiment, the inlet H1 of the air duct component 1 is round, to facilitate connection to a component such as a duct.

[0065] Referring to Figs. 14 and 15, a sealing member 30 is sandwiched between the air duct component 1 and the nozzle 2. The sealing member 30 may comprise a main body 33 in the shape of a flat ring, and a flange 34 extending outwards transversely (in the up / down directions as shown in the figures) from the flat-ring- shaped main body 33, wherein the flat-ring-shaped main body 33 is located in the outlet H2 of the air duct component 1, and the flange 34 is located at an outer side of the outlet H2 of the air duct component 1. The nozzle 2 may be partially inserted in the outlet H2 of the air duct component 1, and abuts and presses tightly against the flat-ring-shaped main body 33 of the sealing member 30, to provide sealing at the junction between the nozzle 2 and the air duct component 1. Preferably, as shown in Figs. 11, 14 and 15, a second boss 202 surrounding the nozzle 2 may also be provided on a peripheral wall of the nozzle 2. The second boss 202 mates with the air duct housing H of the air duct component 1, for the purpose of clamping the flange 34 of the sealing member 3, increasing the size of a region of sealing between the nozzle 2 and the air duct component 1.

[0066] Continuing to refer to Figs. 11 -15, the air delivery assembly may comprise fastening members 4 arranged along the junction between the nozzle 2 and the air duct component 1, for the purpose of fixing the nozzle 2 to the air duct component 1, and maintaining the clamping force applied by the nozzle 2 and the air duct component 1 to the flange 34. Specifically, the fastening member 4 may comprise a first fastening part 401, and a second fastening part 402 that can be fastened to the first fastening part 401. The first fastening part 401 may be substantially in the form of a tab and may be disposed on the second boss 202 of the nozzle 2, and correspondingly, the second fastening part 402 may be substantially in the form of a protrusion and disposed on an outer wall of the air duct component 1. Thus, the nozzle 2 may be fixed to the air duct component 1, and the clamping force on the flange 34 maintained, by engaging the first fastening member 401 with the second fastening member 402. The structure is simple, and operation is convenient.

[0067] As can be seen, the nozzle 2 and the air duct component 1 in this embodiment can clamp two parts of the sealing member 30, namely the flat-ring-shaped main body 33 and the flange 34, to increase the size of the region of sealing between the nozzle 2 and the air duct component 1, thus ensuring sealing at the junction more effectively.

[0068] Although the sealing member 30 has the first and second annular projections 31 and 32 and the nozzle 2 has the first boss 201 in the description herein, the  present disclosure is not limited to this. For example, the sealing member 30 and the nozzle 2 may not be configured in that way; or only the first and second annular projections 31 and 32 may be provided on the sealing member 30; or only the first boss 201 may be provided on the nozzle 2. It suffices that the nozzle 2 is able to abut and press tightly against the inner wall of the sealing member 30 to seal the junction.

[0069] In addition, the sealing member 30 of the present disclosure is described as an independent component, but the present disclosure is not limited to this; for example, the sealing member 30 could be overmoulded on the nozzle 2. It suffices that good sealing at the junction between the nozzle 2 and the air duct component 1 can be ensured. The nozzle 2 and the sealing member 30 are integrally formed to simplify processing and facilitate assembly.

[0070] In addition, the air duct component 1 of the present disclosure is described as having its air duct housing H divided into two parts, namely the first and second housing halves 10 and 20, but the present disclosure is not limited to this. For example, the air duct housing H of the air duct component 1 could be divided into three or more parts, depending on vehicle body space limitations. It suffices that all parts can be obtained by an injection moulding process, and can be conveniently connected together in a sealed manner. Moreover, the air duct component 1 of the present disclosure is not limited with regard to the specific shapes of the inlet H1 and the outlet H2; it suffices that the inlet H1 and the outlet H2 can be connected to other components in a sealed manner.

[0071] Furthermore, the air delivery assembly of the present disclosure is described as delivering air, and having the inlet H1 of the air duct component 1 connected to the air source 3, but the present disclosure is not limited to this; for example, the inlet H1 of the air duct component 1 could be connected to another fluid source. It suffices that fluid can be delivered.

[0072] In summary, the present disclosure provides an irregularly shaped air duct component, and an air delivery assembly comprising the air duct component. In the air duct component, as a result of dividing the air duct housing into multiple parts such as the first housing half and the second housing half, both the first  housing half and the second housing half can be made by an injection moulding process; the manufacturing cost is low, and the product obtained has high dimensional precision, making it possible to avoid the problem of the injection moulding process being limited by the spatial structure of the air duct component. Furthermore, the air duct component may further comprise the sealing member disposed at the outlet of the air duct housing, with structural strength being provided by the air duct housing of high hardness, and flexibility at the junction being provided by the sealing member, to facilitate insertion of the nozzle into the air duct component and ensure sealing performance at the junction. In addition, as a result of respectively providing the mating projections and tabs (i.e. the first fixing members) at the outer sides of the interface edges of the first and second housing components of the air duct housing, the air duct housing is easy to assemble, and not restricted by limited vehicle body space. The air delivery assembly of the present disclosure comprises the above-described air duct component and the nozzle which can be connected to the outlet of the air duct component in a sealed manner, so is easy to assemble. In the air delivery assembly, sealing at the junction can be ensured effectively by sandwiching the sealing member between the nozzle and the air duct housing of the air duct component, and the clamping force on the sealing member can be effectively maintained, ensuring sealing of the sealing member, by providing the fastening members at the junction between the air duct component and the nozzle.

[0073] Demonstrative ways of implementing the air duct component and air delivery assembly provided in the present disclosure have been described above with reference to preferred embodiments, but those skilled in the art will understand that as long as the concept of the present disclosure is not deviated from, various changes and modifications could be made to the specific embodiments above, and various technical features and structures set forth in the present disclosure could be combined in various ways, without exceeding the scope of protection of the present disclosure, which is specified by the attached claims.
