Description

[0001] DESCRIPTION

[0002] TILE LAYING ACCESSORY

[0003] TECHNICAL SECTOR

[0004] The present invention relates to a tile-laying accessory that helps the operator work comfortably, reducing repetitive movements, thereby improving ergonomics and reducing the risk of injury.

[0005] STATE OF THE ART

[0006] A method for laying tiles (hereinafter referred to as "tiles") is known in the state of the art in which the operator separates the tiles from the wall or floor using T-shaped spacers. An example of these spacers is shown in ES1214135U (one of whose figures is provided as figure 1). The spacer has a base from which a perpendicular section emerges with a central opening for the passage of a wedge. Thus, the tile is separated from the floor or wall by the thickness of the base, and is retained against the perpendicular section by the wedge. Due to this construction, part of the perpendicular section protrudes from the tiles and must be subsequently cut.

[0007] During tile installation, the operator places a paste or cement and a series of spacers on the floor or wall, places the tile against the paste, and holds it in position with the corresponding wedges. The bases of the wedges ensure that all tiles are the same distance from the floor or wall, thus forming a flat surface. Typically, two spacers are placed on each side of the tile.

[0008] However, when the operator is laying tiles on a wall, each person moves at a different height. Therefore, when picking up spacers, wedges, and any other material from a container on the floor, he or she must bend down and stand up successively until the wall is completely tiled. This results in a tiring, repetitive motion that can lead to injury.

[0009] The applicant is not aware of any accessory that solves these problems. BRIEF EXPLANATION OF THE INVENTION

[0010] The invention consists of a tile laying accessory according to the claims.

[0011] The tile-laying accessory is designed for laying tiles on walls using spacers and wedges. It consists of a container comprising a slot in a straight wall. A wall-fixing means is attached to this straight wall: a spacer, as known in the art, for the aforementioned use. To do this, the perpendicular section of a spacer is inserted into the slot and secured by a wedge. That is, the spacer, in addition to embracing the tile, serves to grip the container, which is held by the tiles.

[0012] It should be noted that the specific model of spacer or wedge used is not relevant, since the dimensions are usually standard to ensure that the tiles are identical.

[0013] Other variants will be described later.

[0014] DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0015] For a better understanding of the invention, the following figures are included.

[0016] Figure 1: Perspective view of an example of a separator from the state of the art, applicable in the invention.

[0017] Figure 2: Schematic section of an example of the accessory, with the tray separated to better appreciate the elements.

[0018] MODES OF EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION

[0019] Below is a brief description of an embodiment of the invention, as an illustrative and non-limiting example thereof.

[0020] The accessory shown in Figure 1 consists of a container (1), which may have a lid. The container (1) has dividing panels (10) to differentiate its interior and allow for the storage of different elements of the spacers (2), wedges (3), and other objects necessary for laying tiles on walls. If desired, it may have removable trays (11), which can be removed to modify the available space, quickly change the elements to be used, etc.

[0021] In at least one wall of the container (1) there is a groove (4) whose width is slightly larger than the perpendicular section of a separator (2) used in tiling. If the container (1) is rectangular, the groove (4) will be on a longer side to reduce the turning moment.

[0022] In use, the operator will lay the floor tiles first and, when at a convenient height, place a further spacer (2) between the tiles. He will place the corresponding wedge (3) on all of the spacers (2) except one, and pass the perpendicular section of this excess spacer (2) through the slot (4). At this point, he will place the wedge (3) to fix the container (1) to the tiles. The excess spacer (2), used as a grip, is lost in the tiling, in the same way as the other spacers (2). Once the container (1) has been removed, the operator handles it in the same way as the other spacers.

[0023] This accessory therefore offers a way of attaching tiles without damaging them, since no holes need to be made or any hard material to be rubbed against. Furthermore, the fixing element is a spacer (2) available in large quantities, so that the operator can easily reposition the accessory.
