[0064] To prepare the samples alumina (AI2O3) substrates were coated with an alumina coating using CVD. Each of the alumina substrates, prior to being coated with the CVD alumina, had surface defects, such as, for example and without limitation, pores and cracks. The surface roughness of each of the alumina substrates was measured in three different locations, prior to being coated with CVD alumina and after being coated with CVD alumina.
