Description

[0001] Method for detecting foreign entities in a fluid flow, vortex flow measurement system, and heat pump heating system

[0002] The invention relates to a method for detecting foreign entities in a fluid flow, in particular gas bubbles or foreign particles, by means of a vortex flow measuring system, as well as a correspondingly designed vortex flow measuring system and a heat pump heating system equipped therewith.

[0003] STATE OF THE ART

[0004] One aspect of monitoring piped fluid flows concerns the detection of entrained foreign entities, such as particulate solids or gas bubbles in a flowing liquid. For process control, knowledge of the occurrence and concentration of such foreign entities is desirable, especially if they are classified as contaminants, for example, in processes with high hygiene requirements such as in the food processing industry. Another application example is leaks in the fluid circuits of heat pump heating systems, where potentially explosive penetration of gaseous refrigerant into the heating water circuit can occur. For example, the publication WO 2006 / 088423 A1 discloses a

[0005] Method for detecting foreign bodies in a medium based on testing by irradiation with microwaves and ultrasound.

[0006] Furthermore, the document DE 10 2021 128 381 A1 discloses a method for detecting foreign bodies in a flowable medium in a pipeline, for which purpose appropriate measurements of the permittivity of the medium are carried out by means of electrodes or antennas arranged therein.

[0007] DISCLOSURE OF THE INVENTION

[0008] The present invention relates to a method for detecting foreign entities in a fluid flow according to claim 1, a vortex flow measuring system designed to carry out the method according to claim 9, and a heat pump heating system equipped therewith according to claim 10. Advantageous developments of the invention are specified in the dependent claims.

[0009] The invention includes the technical teaching that the method for detecting foreign entities is carried out by means of a vortex flow measuring system with a vortex sensor, wherein at least the following method steps are carried out:

[0010] - Continuous recording of a measuring signal using the vortex sensor,

[0011] - Determining an actual value of at least one measured variable dependent on the measuring signal, wherein the measured variable is sensitive to foreign entities carried in the fluid flow,

[0012] - Determining a deviation of the actual value from a setpoint value, wherein the setpoint value characterizes the fluid flow without foreign entities, and determining and outputting an indicator signal based on the deviation of the actual value as a measure of the concentration of foreign entities entrained in the fluid flow.

[0013] The invention is based on the finding that the presence of foreign entities in a fluid flow is reflected in a characteristic manner in the measurement signal of the vortex sensor of a vortex flow measurement system. The basic idea of the invention is to extract one or preferably several suitable measurement variables from the measurement signal, the value of which provides dedicated information about the concentration of entrained foreign entities. The foreign entities to be detected in this way are, in particular, gas bubbles in a flowing liquid, entrained particulate solids, or a foreign liquid of a different density or viscosity entrained in a flowing liquid.

[0014] A particular advantage of the method according to the invention is that it can be carried out using a conventional vortex flow measurement system. Vortex flow measurement systems are already an integral part of systems for monitoring pipe-guided fluid flows and are used in particular for the continuous determination of flow rates, so the method according to the invention can be applied without the need for any equipment upgrades.

[0015] Vortex flow measurement systems are based on determining the vortex shedding frequency of a Kärmän vortex street induced by a bluff body in the fluid flow to be monitored. For this purpose, a vortex sensor is positioned downstream of the bluff body in the fluid flow. The vortex sensor is designed to measure local pressure differences resulting from the counter-rotating and offset fluid vortices shedding from the bluff body. The measurement signal of the vortex sensor thus has an oscillatory component, from whose period the vortex shedding frequency can be determined. Knowing the Strouhal number of the fluid flow in the measurement section and the geometry of the measurement section including the bluff body, the flow rate can be determined from the vortex shedding frequency.

[0016] The detection of foreign entities according to the invention can be carried out in particular in addition to the determination of the flow rate (or other flow parameters) by means of the vortex flow measuring system. In comparison to the measurement on a pure fluid flow, the measurement signal of the vortex sensor is changed by entrained foreign entities, since these influence the formation of the Kärmän vortex street. In particular, characteristic deviations occur in the frequency and amplitude spectrum, and the at least one measurement variable sensitive to foreign entities is preferably formed from frequency information and / or amplitude information of the measurement signal, for example as mean values or variances of the frequencies or amplitudes and / or as quotients of such variables. Depending on the specific application, ieDepending on the fluid being monitored and the foreign entities to be detected, there may be different sensitivities of the various measured variables for the foreign entities, so that an appropriate selection or prioritization of the measured variables under consideration can be carried out.

[0017] According to the invention, the actual value of the at least one measured variable under consideration, continuously determined from the measurement signal of the vortex sensor, is compared with a target value that characterizes the fluid flow without foreign entities. The actual value of the measured variable is determined in particular based on a statistical evaluation of the measurement signal over several periods of the oscillatory signal component. From the deviation from the target value, a measure of the concentration of foreign entities entrained in the fluid flow is calculated and output as an indicator signal. The indicator signal in particular forms a continuous output value, so that at least a relative quantification of the concentration of foreign entities is possible. In a specific application, this can be used, for example, to define a critical concentration, the exceedance of which should trigger a regulatory intervention in the monitored process. The indicator signal is output, for example, as a continuous voltage signal between 0 V and 3 V.

[0018] Advantageously, the actual values of several measured variables are continuously extracted from the measurement signal of the vortex sensor and compared with the corresponding target values, whereby the determination of the concentration of foreign entities can be carried out more robustly and provides more precise results.

[0019] The target values of the measured variables as well as the allocation of the actual value deviations to the concentration of foreign entities can be determined in advance, in particular by means of laboratory measurements.

[0020] In an exemplary embodiment of the method according to the invention, the at least one measured variable is formed as the number of supercritical deviations per unit of time in a frequency and / or an amplitude of the measurement signal from a mean value. The presence of a supercritical deviation can be determined, for example, based on a criterion derived from the variance of the mean values. In particular, the at least one measured variable can be selected depending on the flow rate of the fluid flow.

[0021] Advantageously, the measured variable is formed from amplitude information of the measurement signal at low flow rates and from frequency information at high flow rates. Alternatively, the actual values of several measured variables can always be determined, and their respective weighting for determining the concentration of foreign entities is selected depending on the flow rate.

[0022] Advantageously, the sampling rate and / or signal amplification when capturing the measurement signal using the vortex sensor are adapted to the flow rate of the fluid flow. For example, at high flow rates and a measured variable based on frequency information, the measurement range around the zero crossings of the measurement signal is of particular interest and should be captured with sufficient resolution by appropriately adjusting the sampling rate and / or signal amplification. The sampling rate when capturing the measurement signal is preferably in the range of 1 kHz to 20 kHz, in particular in the range of 2 kHz to 8 kHz.

[0023] In an advantageous embodiment of the method according to the invention, the validity of the indicator signal is continuously evaluated, and an associated validity signal is output. This is based on the knowledge that changes in flow parameters, in particular changes in the flow rate, lead to a transient impairment in the determination of the concentration of foreign entities and that the output indicator signal is accordingly subject to greater uncertainty. To account for this circumstance, the validity of the indicator signal is evaluated, for example, based on the gradient of the respective unsteady flow parameter, and an associated validity signal is output parallel to the indicator signal. The validity signal, for example, runs continuously between the limit values 0 and 1.In particular, the validity of the indicator signal is assessed based on the flow rate of the fluid flow, with changes in the flow rate resulting in a reduction in validity. Additionally or alternatively, other variables can be considered to assess validity, such as the scatter of the indicator signal.

[0024] The invention further relates to a vortex flow measuring system comprising a vortex sensor, an evaluation unit, and an output unit. The vortex flow measuring system is designed to carry out the method according to the invention for detecting foreign entities in a fluid flow according to one of the aforementioned embodiments, wherein the evaluation unit is configured to determine the indicator signal and the output unit is configured to output the indicator signal. In principle, all types commonly used in the prior art are suitable as vortex sensors, in particular piezo sensors, membrane sensors, or capacitive sensors. The evaluation unit preferably comprises a memory unit in which the values of the indicator signal to be output are stored in parameterized form, such that the deviation of the at least one measured variable from its target value determined during the method implementation can be assigned to a value of the indicator signal. In an advantageous embodiment, the evaluation unit is also configured to continuously evaluate the validity of the indicator signal and to determine an associated validity signal. The output unit is configured to output the indicator signal and, if applicable, also the validity signal, in particular as continuous-value voltage signals.

[0025] The invention also relates to a heat pump heating system comprising a working circuit with a coolant, a heating circuit with heating water, and a heat exchanger, wherein the working circuit and the heating circuit are in thermal contact via the heat exchanger, wherein the heating circuit has a vortex flow measuring system according to the invention that is designed to detect the coolant in the heating water. The coolant can be propane, for example, which is carried in the heating water in the form of gas bubbles. Since the accumulation of propane gas in the heating circuit poses a risk of explosion, an underlying leak between the working circuit and the heating circuit must be detected as early as possible, for which purpose the method according to the invention can be carried out during operation of the heat pump heating system.

[0026] EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION

[0027] Further measures improving the invention are described in more detail below, together with the description of exemplary embodiments of the invention, with reference to the figures. It shows schematically:

[0028] Fig. 1 : a vortex flow measuring system according to the invention, Fig. 2: exemplary signal curves, and

[0029] Fig. 3: a heat pump heating system according to the invention.

[0030] Fig. 1 shows a schematic cross-sectional view of a vortex flow measuring system 1 according to the invention, designed to carry out the method according to the invention for detecting foreign entities E in the fluid flow F. The vortex flow measuring system 1 comprises the measuring tube 15 with the prism-shaped disruptive body 14 arranged therein and the vortex sensor 11 arranged downstream of the disruptive body 14. The presence of the disruptive body 14 in the fluid flow F induces the formation of the illustrated Kärmänn vortex street from the counter-rotating and offset vortices W, which can be measured at the vortex sensor 11 as alternating pressure fluctuations. The foreign entities E carried in the fluid flow F, which are designed here as gas bubbles by way of example, exert a characteristic influence on the formation of the Kärmän vortex street, and the method according to the invention is based on the identification and evaluation of this influence in the measurement signal of the vortex sensor 11. For this purpose, the evaluation unit 12 serves, which receives the continuously recorded measurement signal of the vortex sensor 11 and determines therefrom the indicator signal to be output, i.e. determines the actual value of the at least one measured variable under consideration and its deviation from the associated target value, and determines the indicator signal based on the determined deviation as a measure of the concentration of the foreign entities E carried in the fluid flow F.The indicator signal as well as the validity signal, which is preferably also continuously determined by the evaluation unit 12, can be output by the output unit 13, in particular as continuous voltage signals.

[0031] Fig. 2 shows exemplary signal curves when carrying out the method according to the invention, namely the time course of the measurement signal S at the vortex sensor and the associated indicator signal I and the validity signal V. The signal curves comprise four different flow states Zo - Z3, which differ with regard to the respective concentration of foreign entities and the flow rate of the monitored fluid flow according to the information in Table 1.

[0032] Table 1

[0033] The measurement signal S in flow state Zo, i.e., with a fluid flow of constant flow rate and without entrained foreign entities, is essentially formed by a sinusoidal signal, with two vortices flowing past the vortex sensor being detected per period. In the presence of entrained foreign entities in flow states Zi - Z3, the measurement signal S is significantly modified and exhibits a much more structurally rich frequency spectrum.

[0034] The measured variables considered for detecting foreign entities are formed, in particular, from frequency information and / or amplitude information of the measurement signal S, and to determine the respective actual values, an evaluation of the measurement signal S is carried out over several periods of the fundamental frequency. In the present exemplary embodiment, a value of the indicator signal I based thereon is determined and output at intervals corresponding to the period of the fundamental frequency of the measurement signal S. The indicator signal I is output as a continuously valued voltage signal, and the maximum signal level l ma x is, for example, 3 V. In the undisturbed flow state Zo, the indicator signal I assumes a value around 0 V, and in the presence of entrained foreign entities in the flow states Z1 - Z3, the indicator signal I rises to a level corresponding to the respective concentration of foreign entities.

[0035] In addition, the validity of the indicator signal I is continuously evaluated, and the corresponding validity signal V is output. In the present exemplary embodiment, the validity is evaluated based on the flow rate of the fluid flow, with changes in the flow rate resulting in a reduction in validity. In addition, the scatter of the values of the indicator signal I is considered at appropriate intervals. This procedure is based on the finding that, at high concentrations of entrained foreign entities, the inventive determination of the indicator signal I is subject to increased uncertainty. Accordingly, the validity and the scatter of the indicator signal I are negatively correlated.

[0036] The validity signal V is output here, for example, as a continuous-value signal between the extreme values "1" (fully valid) and "0" (unusable). At constant flow rates of the monitored fluid flow (flow states Zo, Zi, and Z3), a high level of validity is generally present, which is only significantly reduced in the case of flow state Z1, characterized by a high concentration of foreign entities, due to the increased scatter in the indicator signal I. A change in the flow rate (flow state Z2) significantly impairs the inventive determination of the indicator signal I, and the associated validity signal V drops accordingly.

[0037] Fig. 3 shows a schematic representation of a heat pump heating system 100 according to the invention, comprising the working circuit 2 with a refrigerant, the heating circuit 3 with heating water, and the heat exchanger 4, wherein the working circuit 2 and the heating circuit 3 are in thermal contact via the heat exchanger 4. The heating circuit 3 has the vortex flow measuring system 1 according to the invention, which is configured to detect the refrigerant in the heating water.

[0038] Working circuit 2, for example, is part of a compression heat pump, and the refrigerant circulating within it periodically changes its state of matter between liquid and gaseous under the drive of a compressor. The heat absorbed during evaporation of the refrigerant is transferred to the heating water in heating circuit 3 during subsequent condensation in the heat exchanger, and is thus available, in particular, for heating a building. If refrigerant enters heating circuit 3 due to a leak, the refrigerant is detected as a foreign entity by means of the vortex flow measurement system 1 designed according to the invention.
