Description

Electronic device for performing wireless communication using multiple antennas and its operating method

[0001] Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to a device and method for performing wireless communication using a plurality of antennas in an electronic device.

[0002] An electronic device may perform wireless communication with an external electronic device via a plurality of antennas. The electronic device may include a plurality of antennas (e.g., antenna structures or antenna modules) to satisfy a user's desired communication quality (e.g., throughput) through wireless communication or to support a relatively wide frequency band of wireless communication. For example, the wireless communication may include at least one of long term evolution (LTE) communication or 5G communication (or new radio (NR) communication).

[0003] The above information may be provided as background art to aid in understanding the present disclosure. No claim or determination is made as to whether any of the above is applicable as prior art related to the present disclosure.

[0004] When an electronic device uses multiple antennas, the electronic device may set a tuner associated with each antenna in consideration of the influence of interference between the multiple antennas. For example, the electronic device may set a tuner associated with a first antenna (e.g., a main antenna) among the multiple antennas in consideration of the wireless communication performance (e.g., reception performance) of a second antenna (e.g., a multi-input multi-output (MIMO) antenna) physically adjacent to the first antenna. In order to maintain isolation between the first and second antennas, the electronic device may set the tuner associated with the first antenna to a setting value (e.g., a tuning code) selected in consideration of the isolation of the first and second antennas, rather than an optimal setting value (e.g., a tuning code) in consideration of the wireless communication performance of the first antenna.

[0005] When an electronic device performs wireless communication via multiple antennas, a reception imbalance phenomenon may occur in which the wireless communication performance (e.g., reception performance) of each antenna is different. The electronic device may perform wireless communication using multiple antennas even when the wireless communication performance of a specific antenna does not affect the wireless communication performance of the electronic device due to the reception imbalance phenomenon. For example, the reception imbalance phenomenon may occur due to the location of the electronic device, the holding state, or the design limitations of the reception path associated with each antenna.

[0006] An electronic device can perform wireless communication using multiple antennas even when the wireless communication performance of a specific receiving path is degraded due to hardware damage.

[0007] Electronic devices may perform wireless communications unnecessarily using multiple antennas due to software limitations associated with the operation of multiple antennas.

[0008] Embodiments of the present disclosure disclose devices and methods for improving wireless communication performance in an electronic device having a plurality of antennas.

[0009] The technical problems to be achieved in this document are not limited to the technical problems mentioned above, and other technical problems not mentioned can be clearly understood by a person having ordinary skill in the technical field to which the present disclosure belongs from the description below.

[0010] According to one embodiment, an electronic device may include a plurality of antennas arranged physically adjacent to each other, at least one processor operatively connected to the plurality of antennas, and a memory. According to one embodiment, the memory may store instructions that, when individually or collectively executed by the at least one processor, cause the electronic device to check at least one of reception signal qualities of the plurality of antennas or status information of reception paths associated with the plurality of antennas. According to one embodiment, the memory may store instructions that, when individually or collectively executed by the at least one processor, cause the electronic device to set a tuner associated with a first antenna among the plurality of antennas using a first tuning scheme that sets the tuner based on at least one of reception signal qualities of the plurality of antennas or status information of the reception paths. According to one embodiment, the memory may store instructions that, when individually or collectively executed by the at least one processor, cause the electronic device to check at least one of reception signal qualities of the plurality of antennas or status information of the reception paths in a state in which a tuner associated with the first antenna is set based on the first tuning scheme. According to one embodiment, the memory may store instructions that, when executed individually or collectively by at least one processor, cause the electronic device to change a tuning scheme of the first antenna to a second tuning scheme that sets a tuner by taking into account at least one of the reception signal quality of the first antenna or the status information of the reception path, if a difference value of at least one of the reception signal quality of the first antenna and the status information of the reception path of the second antenna satisfies a first switching condition.According to one embodiment, the memory may store instructions that, when executed individually or collectively by at least one processor, cause the electronic device to configure a tuner associated with the first antenna based on the second tuning scheme.

[0011] According to one embodiment, an operating method of an electronic device having a plurality of antennas that are physically adjacent to each other may include an operation of checking at least one of reception signal qualities of the plurality of antennas or status information of reception paths. According to one embodiment, the operating method of the electronic device may include an operation of setting a tuner associated with a first antenna among the plurality of antennas by using a first tuning method that sets a tuner based on at least one of reception signal qualities of the plurality of antennas or status information of the reception paths. According to one embodiment, the operating method of the electronic device may include an operation of checking at least one of reception signal qualities of the plurality of antennas or status information of the reception paths in a state in which the tuner associated with the first antenna is set based on the first tuning method. According to one embodiment, the operating method of the electronic device may include an operation of changing a tuning method of the first antenna to a second tuning method that sets a tuner by considering at least one of reception signal qualities of the first antenna or status information of the reception paths when a difference value of at least one of reception signal qualities of the first antenna and the second antenna or status information of the reception paths satisfies a first switching condition. According to one embodiment, a method of operating an electronic device may include setting a tuner associated with a first antenna based on a second tuning scheme.

[0012] According to one embodiment, a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium (or computer program product) storing one or more programs may be described. According to one embodiment, one or more programs may include instructions that, when executed by at least one processor of an electronic device, include: an operation of checking at least one of reception signal qualities or reception path status information of a plurality of antennas; an operation of setting a tuner associated with a first antenna among a plurality of physically adjacent antennas using a first tuning method that sets a tuner based on at least one of reception signal qualities or reception path status information of the plurality of antennas; an operation of checking at least one of reception signal qualities or reception path status information of the plurality of antennas in a state in which the tuner associated with the first antenna is set based on the first tuning method; an operation of changing the tuning method of the first antenna to a second tuning method that sets a tuner by considering at least one of reception signal qualities or reception path status information of the first antenna when a difference value of at least one of reception signal qualities or reception path status information of the first antenna and the second antenna satisfies a designated first switching condition; and an operation of setting a tuner associated with the first antenna based on the second tuning method.

[0013] According to an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure, an electronic device having a plurality of physically adjacent antennas can improve the wireless communication performance of the first antenna by setting a tuner associated with the first antenna based on the wireless communication performance of the first antenna when the wireless communication performance (e.g., reception performance) of a second antenna (e.g., MIMO antenna) is lower than the wireless communication performance of the first antenna (e.g., main antenna) by a specified reference difference or more (e.g., RX imbalance).

[0014] According to one embodiment, an electronic device having a plurality of physically adjacent antennas can reduce unnecessary power consumption by disabling a receiving path associated with a second antenna when setting a tuner associated with a first antenna based on the wireless communication performance of the first antenna.

According to one embodiment, the housing (210) may also refer to a structure forming a portion of the first side (210A), the second side (210B), and the side surface (210C) of FIG. 2. For example, the first side (210A) may be formed by a front plate that is at least partially substantially transparent (e.g., a glass plate including various coating layers, or a polymer plate). The second side (210B) may be formed by a substantially opaque back plate. For example, the back plate may be formed of a coated or colored glass, ceramic, polymer, metal (e.g., aluminum, stainless steel (STS), or magnesium), or a combination of at least two of the aforementioned materials.

[0055] For example, the side (210C) may be formed by a side bezel structure (or "side member") that is joined to the front plate and the back plate and includes a metal and / or polymer. For example, the back plate and the side bezel structure may be formed integrally and include the same material (e.g., a metal material such as aluminum).

[0056] According to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) may include at least one of a display (201), a sensor module (204), or a camera module (205). For example, although not shown, the electronic device (101) may further include at least one of an input device (e.g., a microphone), an audio output device (e.g., a speaker), a key input device (e.g., a button), an indicator, or a connector. For example, the input device, the audio output device, and the connector may be disposed in an internal space of the electronic device (101) and exposed to the external environment through at least one hole formed in the housing (210). For example, the hole formed in the housing (210) may be used in common for the input device and the audio output device.

[0057] In one embodiment, the display (201) may be exposed through a significant portion of the front plate of the first surface (210A). For example, the display (201) may be coupled to or adjacent to a touch sensing circuit, a pressure sensor capable of measuring the intensity (pressure) of a touch, and / or a digitizer capable of detecting a magnetic field-type stylus pen.

[0058] According to one embodiment, the sensor module (204) may generate an electrical signal or data value corresponding to an internal operating state of the electronic device (101) or an external environmental state. The fingerprint sensor may be disposed on the first surface (210A) of the housing (210). The fingerprint sensor (e.g., an ultrasonic or optical fingerprint sensor) may be disposed under the display (201) on the first surface (210A). The electronic device (101) may further include at least one of a sensor module not shown, for example, a gesture sensor, a gyro sensor, a pressure sensor, a magnetic sensor, an acceleration sensor, a grip sensor, a color sensor, an infrared (IR) sensor, a biometric sensor, a temperature sensor, a humidity sensor, or an illuminance sensor (204).

[0059] In one embodiment, the camera module (205) may include a first camera module (205) disposed on a first side (210A) of the electronic device (101). For example, the electronic device (101) may include a second camera module disposed on a second side (210B), and / or a flash. The camera modules (205) may include one or more lenses, an image sensor, and / or an image signal processor. The flash may include a light emitting diode or a xenon lamp. For example, two or more lenses (a wide-angle and a telephoto lens) and image sensors may be disposed on one side of the electronic device (101).

[0060] According to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) may include conductive portions (220 and / or 230) used as antennas (or antenna structures). For example, conductive portions (220) that are physically adjacent to each other in a first region (240A) may be separated from each other by at least one segment (e.g., a non-conductive portion). For example, conductive portions (230) that are physically adjacent to each other in a second region (240B) may be separated from each other by at least one segment (e.g., a non-conductive portion). For example, each conductive portion (220 or 230) may be used as a different antenna. For example, at least two conductive portions (220 or 230) may be used as a single antenna.

[0061] FIG. 3 is a block diagram of an electronic device having a plurality of physically adjacent antennas according to one embodiment. For example, the electronic device (101) of FIG. 3 may be at least partially similar to the electronic device (101) of FIG. 1 or FIG. 2 or may further include other embodiments of the electronic device.

[0062] According to one embodiment referring to FIG. 3, the electronic device (101) may include at least one of a processor (300), a communication circuit (310), a plurality of antennas (320), or a memory (330). According to one embodiment, the processor (300) may be substantially the same as the processor (120) (e.g., a communication processor) of FIG. 1 or may be included in the processor (120). The communication circuit (310) may be substantially the same as the wireless communication module (192) of FIG. 1 or may be included in the wireless communication module (192). The plurality of antennas (320) may be substantially the same as the antenna module (197) of FIG. 1 or the conductive patterns (220) of FIG. 2 or may be included in the antenna module (197) or the conductive patterns (220). The memory (330) may be substantially the same as the memory (130) of FIG. 1 or may be included in the memory (130). For example, the plurality of antennas (320) of FIG. 3 include a first antenna (322) and a second antenna (324), but may also include three or more antennas.

[0063] According to one embodiment, the plurality of antennas (320) may include physically adjacent antennas (e.g., conductive patterns (220) of FIG. 2). For example, the physically adjacent antennas may include antennas arranged within the electronic device (101) having a distance between antennas within a specified distance (e.g., the first antenna (322) and the second antenna (324)). For example, the first antenna (322) may be an antenna having the best wireless communication performance among the plurality of antennas (320) (e.g., the main antenna) and may vary based on the wireless environment (e.g., the holding state) of the electronic device (101). For example, the first antenna (322) may be used for transmitting and receiving signals. For example, the second antenna (324) may be an auxiliary antenna for multi-antenna communication (e.g., multi-input multi-output (MIMO) or diversity) and may include an antenna that is physically adjacent to the first antenna (322). For example, the second antenna (324) may be used to receive a signal.

[0064] According to one embodiment, the processor (300) may control at least one of a communication circuit (310) or a memory (330) that is operatively, functionally, and / or electrically connected thereto. For example, the processor (300) may include at least one processor that includes a processing circuit.

[0065] According to one embodiment, the processor (300) may control the communication circuit (310) to perform wireless communication through a plurality of antennas (320). For example, the processor (300) may control the communication circuit (310) to perform wireless communication in a state where a setting value (e.g., a tuning code) of a tuner associated with the first antenna (322) is set based on a first tuning method. For example, the first tuning method may include an active detune method, which is a method of setting a tuner associated with the first antenna (322) by considering at least one of the wireless communication performance of the first antenna (322) and the second antenna (324) or the isolation between the first antenna (322) and the second antenna (324). For example, a tuner associated with a first antenna (322) configured based on a first tuning method may be configured to maintain an isolation of a designated value (e.g., approximately 30 dB) from a second antenna (324). For example, a tuner associated with the first antenna (322) may be configured to a fixed value when the first tuning method is used. For example, wireless communication may be a communication method using multiple antennas, and may include at least one of LTE (long term evolution) and NR (new radio).

[0066] According to one embodiment, when the processor (300) performs wireless communication through a plurality of antennas (320), the processor (300) may check the wireless communication performance of each antenna (e.g., the first antenna (322) and the second antenna (324)). For example, when the electronic device (101) is in a weak electric field state, the processor (300) may periodically check the wireless communication performance of each antenna (e.g., the first antenna (322) and the second antenna (324)) based on a designated first period. For example, the designated first period may be set based on at least one of a period for updating a setting value of a tuner (e.g., a tuning code) (e.g., about 200 ms) or a paging period (e.g., about 320 ms or about 640 ms). For example, the weak electric field state may include a state in which the wireless communication performance of the electronic device (101) satisfies a specified weak electric field condition, and a state in which the strength of a wireless signal received by the electronic device (101) is lower than a specified reference strength. For example, the wireless communication performance of the electronic device (101) may be confirmed based on the wireless communication performances of the plurality of antennas (320). For example, the wireless communication performance may include at least one of the quality of a signal received through each antenna (e.g., the first antenna (322) or the second antenna (324)) for a specified period of time or status information of a reception path related to each antenna. For example, the signal quality may include at least one of the received signal strength indicator (RSSI), the reference signal received quality (RSRQ), the reference signal received power (RSRP), the signal to noise ratio (SNR), the signal to interference and noise ratio (SINR), the quality of service (QoS), or the bit error rate (BER).For example, status information of a receiving path associated with an antenna may include voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR).

[0067] According to one embodiment, the processor (300) can determine whether a reception imbalance phenomenon occurs based on the wireless communication performance of the plurality of antennas (320). For example, the processor (300) can determine that a reception imbalance phenomenon occurs when a difference value between the wireless communication performances of the first antenna (322) and the second antenna (324) satisfies a specified first switching condition. For example, a state in which the specified first switching condition is satisfied may include a state in which the wireless communication performance of the second antenna (322) is lower than the wireless communication performance of the first antenna (322) by a specified reference difference or more.

[0068] According to one embodiment, if the processor (300) determines that a reception imbalance phenomenon has occurred, it may change the tuning method of the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) to a second tuning method. For example, the second tuning method may include an active tuning method, which is a method of setting the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) by considering only the wireless communication performance of the first antenna (322).

[0069] For example, when the processor (300) changes the tuning method of the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) to the second tuning method, the processor (300) may periodically update the setting value (e.g., tuning code) of the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) based on the status information (e.g., VSWR) of the receiving path associated with the first antenna (322) based on a specified first period. For example, the status information of the receiving path associated with the first antenna (322) may be measured (or confirmed) based on a specified second period (e.g., about 50 ms) that is different from the specified first period.

[0070] According to one embodiment, if the processor (300) determines that a reception imbalance phenomenon has occurred, the processor (300) may control the communication circuit (310) to disable the reception path associated with the second antenna (324). For example, disabling the reception path may include a series of operations that cut off the power supply to at least one circuit constituting the reception path.

[0071] According to one embodiment, when the processor (300) determines that a reception imbalance phenomenon has occurred, it may determine whether a designated second switching condition is satisfied based on the wireless communication performance of the second antenna (324). For example, a state in which the designated second switching condition is satisfied may indicate a state in which the wireless communication performance of the second antenna (324) is determined not to affect the wireless communication performance of the electronic device (101). For example, a state in which the designated second switching condition is satisfied may include a state in which the RSRP of the second antenna (324) is equal to or lower than a designated reference RSRP (e.g., approximately -125 dBm) and the SNR of the second antenna (324) is equal to or lower than a designated reference SNR (e.g., approximately 0). For example, a state in which the RI (rank indicator or rank index) that the electronic device (101) continuously or periodically transmits to the network is set to a designated first set value (e.g., “1”). For example, the RI of the specified first set value may include a state in which signals transmitted through multiple antennas are recognized as signals transmitted from a single antenna.

[0072] According to one embodiment, when the processor (300) determines that a reception imbalance phenomenon has occurred and determines that a specified second switching condition is satisfied, the processor (300) may change the tuning method of the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) to the second tuning method. For example, when the processor (300) changes the tuning method of the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) to the second tuning method, the processor (300) may periodically update the setting value (e.g., tuning code) of the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) based on the status information (e.g., voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR)) of the reception path associated with the first antenna (322) based on the specified first period. For example, the status information of the reception path associated with the first antenna (322) may be measured (or confirmed) based on a specified second period (e.g., about 50 ms) that is different from the specified first period.

[0073] In one embodiment, when the processor (300) determines that a reception imbalance phenomenon has occurred and that a designated second switching condition has been satisfied, the processor (300) may control the communication circuit (310) to deactivate the reception path associated with the second antenna (324). For example, deactivating the reception path may include a series of operations that cut off the power supply to at least one circuit constituting the reception path.

[0074] According to one embodiment, the communication circuit (310) may support wireless communication between the electronic device (101) and an external electronic device (e.g., the electronic device (102 or 104) of FIG. 1) via a plurality of antennas (320). For example, the communication circuit (310) may include at least one tuner for controlling at least one of an impedance or frequency characteristic of each of the plurality of antennas (320). For example, the tuner may include at least one of an impedance tuner for impedance matching of the antenna or an aperture tuner for controlling the frequency characteristic of the antenna.

[0075] According to one embodiment, the memory (330) may store various data used by at least one component (e.g., the processor (300) or the communication circuit (310)) of the electronic device (101). For example, the memory (330) may store various instructions that may be individually or collectively executed by the processor (300) (e.g., at least one processor).

[0076] According to one embodiment, an electronic device (e.g., the electronic device (101) of FIG. 1, FIG. 2, or FIG. 3) may include a plurality of antennas (e.g., the antenna module (197) of FIG. 1 or the plurality of antennas (320) of FIG. 3)) that are physically adjacent to each other, at least one processor (e.g., the processor (120) of FIG. 1 or the processor (300) of FIG. 3) operatively connected to the plurality of antennas, and a memory (e.g., the memory (130) of FIG. 1 or the memory (330) of FIG. 3)). According to one embodiment, the memory may store instructions that, when individually or collectively executed by the at least one processor, cause the electronic device to set a tuner associated with a first antenna (e.g., the first antenna (322) of FIG. 3) among the plurality of antennas using a first tuning method that sets a tuner based on wireless communication performance (e.g., at least one of reception signal quality or reception path status information) of the plurality of antennas. According to one embodiment, the memory may store instructions that, when executed individually or collectively by at least one processor, cause the electronic device to check wireless communication performance of a plurality of antennas while a tuner associated with the first antenna is set based on a first tuning scheme. According to one embodiment, the memory may, when executed individually or collectively by at least one processor, cause the electronic device to change the tuning scheme of the first antenna to a second tuning scheme that sets the tuner by considering the wireless communication performance of the first antenna, if a difference value between the wireless communication performances of the first antenna and the second antenna (e.g., the second antenna (324) of FIG. 3) satisfies a first switching condition. According to one embodiment, the memory may store instructions that, when executed individually or collectively by at least one processor, cause the electronic device to set the tuner associated with the first antenna based on the second tuning scheme.

[0077] According to one embodiment, the memory may store instructions that, when executed individually or collectively by at least one processor, cause the electronic device to determine that a specified first switching condition is satisfied if the wireless communication performance of the first antenna (e.g., at least one of a received signal quality or status information of a receiving path) is higher than the wireless communication performance of the second antenna by a specified reference difference value or more.

[0078] According to one embodiment, the instructions, when executed individually or collectively by at least one processor, may include instructions that cause the electronic device to disable a receive path associated with the second antenna if the electronic device determines that a difference value between wireless communication performances (e.g., at least one of a received signal quality or status information of the receive path) of the first antenna and the second antenna satisfies a specified first switching condition.

[0079] According to one embodiment, the memory may store instructions that, when executed individually or collectively by at least one processor, cause the electronic device to determine whether the wireless communication performance of the second antenna satisfies a specified second switching condition when the electronic device determines that a difference value between wireless communication performances (e.g., at least one of reception signal quality or reception path status information) of the first antenna and the second antenna satisfies a specified first switching condition. According to one embodiment, the memory may store instructions that, when executed individually or collectively by at least one processor, cause the electronic device to change a tuning scheme of the first antenna to a second tuning scheme different from the first tuning scheme when the electronic device determines that the specified second switching condition is satisfied.

[0080] According to one embodiment, the instructions may store instructions that, when executed individually or collectively by at least one processor, cause the electronic device to determine that a specified second switching condition is satisfied when a reference signal received power (RSRP) of the second antenna is less than or equal to a reference RSRP and a signal to noise ratio (SNR) of the second antenna is less than the reference SNR.

[0081] According to one embodiment, the memory may store instructions that, when executed individually or collectively by at least one processor, cause the electronic device to disable a receive path associated with the second antenna if the electronic device determines that a wireless communication performance of the second antenna (e.g., at least one of a received signal quality or status information of the receive path) satisfies a specified second switching condition.

[0082] According to one embodiment, a tuner associated with the first antenna may be positioned on an electrical path between at least one processor and the first antenna.

[0083] According to one embodiment, the tuner associated with the first antenna may include at least one of an impedance tuner or an aperture tuner.

[0084] According to one embodiment, the instructions, when executed individually or collectively by at least one processor, may store instructions that cause the electronic device to determine wireless communication performance of a plurality of antennas based on a specified period when the electronic device is located in a weak electric field area.

[0085] FIG. 4 is a flowchart (400) for changing the tuning method of a first antenna in an electronic device according to one embodiment. In the following embodiments, the operations may be performed sequentially, but are not necessarily performed sequentially. For example, the order of the operations may be changed, and at least two operations may be performed in parallel. For example, the electronic device of FIG. 4 may be the electronic device (101) of FIG. 1, FIG. 2, or FIG. 3.

[0086] According to one embodiment referring to FIG. 4, an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101) of FIG. 1, FIG. 2, or FIG. 3) or a processor (e.g., processor (120) of FIG. 1 or processor (300) of FIG. 3) may, in operation 401, check the wireless communication performance of a plurality of antennas (e.g., a plurality of antennas (320) of FIG. 3) used for wireless communication. For example, when the electronic device (101) is in a weak electric field state during wireless communication through the plurality of antennas (320), the processor (300) may periodically check the wireless communication performance of each antenna (e.g., a first antenna (322) and a second antenna (324)) based on a designated first period. For example, the designated first period may be set based on at least one of a period for updating a set value (e.g., a tuning code) of a tuner (e.g., about 200 ms) or a paging period (e.g., about 320 ms or about 640 ms). For example, the weak electric field state may include a state in which the wireless communication performance of the electronic device (101) satisfies a designated weak electric field condition, and a state in which the strength of a wireless signal received by the electronic device (101) is lower than a designated reference strength. For example, the wireless communication performance may include at least one of the quality of a signal received through each antenna (e.g., the first antenna (322) or the second antenna (324)) for a designated period of time or status information of a reception path associated with each antenna.

[0087] For example, the processor (300) may control the communication circuit (310) to perform wireless communication in a state where the setting value of the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) is set based on the first tuning method. For example, the first tuning method may include an active detune method, which is a method of setting the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) by considering at least one of the wireless communication performance of the first antenna (322) and the second antenna (324) or the isolation between the first antenna (322) and the second antenna (324). For example, the wireless communication may include at least one of LTE (long term evolution) or NR (new radio) as a communication method using a plurality of antennas.

[0088] According to one embodiment, an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or a processor (e.g., processor (120 or 300)) may determine, in operation 403, whether a difference value of wireless communication performances of a plurality of antennas (e.g., the first antenna (322) and the second antenna (324) of FIG. 3) being used for wireless communication satisfies a specified first switching condition. For example, a state in which the specified first switching condition is satisfied may include a state in which the wireless communication performance of the second antenna (322) is lower than the wireless communication performance of the first antenna (322) by a specified reference difference or more. For example, a state in which the specified first switching condition is satisfied may include a state in which a reception imbalance phenomenon occurs between the first antenna (322) and the second antenna (324). For example, a state in which the specified first switching condition is not satisfied may include a state in which the wireless communication performance of the second antenna (322) is within a specified reference difference compared to the wireless communication performance of the first antenna (322).

[0089] According to one embodiment, when an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or a processor (e.g., processor (120 or 300)) determines that a specified first switching condition is satisfied (e.g., 'Yes' in operation 403), in operation 405, the processor may set (or change) the tuning method of the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) to the second tuning method. For example, when the processor (300) determines that the specified first switching condition is satisfied while the tuning method of the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) is set to the first tuning method, the processor (300) may change the tuning method of the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) to the second tuning method. For example, the second tuning method may include an active tune method, which is a method of setting the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) in consideration of the wireless communication performance of the first antenna (322). For example, the first antenna (322) is an antenna (e.g., main antenna) with the best wireless communication performance among the plurality of antennas (320) and can be used for transmitting and receiving signals.

[0090] For example, when the processor (300) changes the tuning method of the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) to the second tuning method, the processor (300) may periodically update the setting value (e.g., tuning code) of the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) based on the status information (e.g., VSWR) of the receiving path associated with the first antenna (322) based on a specified first period (e.g., about 200 ms). For example, the status information of the receiving path associated with the first antenna (322) may be measured (or confirmed) based on a specified second period (e.g., about 50 ms) that is different from the specified first period. For example, the setting value of the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) may be adaptively updated to correspond to a wireless communication environment.

[0091] According to one embodiment, if the electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or the processor (e.g., processor (120 or 300)) determines that the specified first switching condition is not satisfied (e.g., 'No' in operation 403), in operation 407, the processor may set the tuning method of the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) to the first tuning method. For example, if the processor (300) determines that the specified first switching condition is not satisfied while the tuning method of the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) is set to the first tuning method, the processor may maintain the tuning method of the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) set to the first tuning method. For example, if the processor (300) determines that the tuning method of the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) does not satisfy the specified first switching condition while the tuning method is set to the second tuning method, the processor (300) may change the tuning method of the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) to the first tuning method.

[0092] For example, when the processor (300) changes the tuning method of the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) to the first tuning method, the processor (300) may set the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) to a fixed value set based on the first tuning method. For example, the fixed value may include a value set to maintain isolation of the second antenna (324) at a designated value (e.g., about 30 dB).

[0093] According to one embodiment, when the tuning method of the first antenna (322) is set to the second tuning method, the transmission output (e.g., total radiated power (TRP)) and reception sensitivity (e.g., total isotropic sensitivity (TIS)) performance of the first antenna (322) may be improved, as shown in Table 1 below. For example, Table 1 may include the transmission output and reception sensitivity of the first antenna (322) when the electronic device (101) performs LTE communication through a frequency band of B2 (e.g., approximately 1900 MHz band).

[0094] LTE B2 1st tuning method 2nd tuning method TRP 19.5dBm 20.7dBm TIS -93.7dBm -94.8dBm

[0095] For example, the transmission power (TRP) and reception sensitivity (TIS) of the first antenna (322) in a state where the setting value of the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) is set by the second tuning method may be improved compared to the transmission power (TRP) and reception sensitivity (TIS) of the first antenna (322) in a state where the setting value of the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) is set by the first tuning method. For example, the state where the setting value of the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) is set by the second tuning method may include a state where the receiving path associated with the second antenna (324) is deactivated. For example, the state where the setting value of the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) is set by the first tuning method may include a state where the receiving path associated with the second antenna (324) is activated.

[0096] According to one embodiment, if the electronic device (101) determines that the specified first switching condition is satisfied (e.g., 'Yes' in operation 403), the receive path associated with the second antenna (324) may be deactivated. For example, deactivating the receive path may include a series of operations that cut off power to at least one circuit constituting the receive path.

[0097] According to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) may activate the receive path associated with the second antenna (324) based on a determination that the receive path associated with the second antenna (324) is inactive and does not satisfy a specified first switching condition. For example, activating the receive path may include a series of operations that supply power to circuits constituting the receive path to transition to a state in which reception of a signal can be performed through the receive path.

[0098] FIG. 5 is a flowchart (500) for verifying wireless communication performance of multiple antennas in an electronic device according to one embodiment. For example, at least a portion of FIG. 5 may include detailed operations of operation 401 of FIG. 4 . In the following embodiments, the operations may be performed sequentially, but are not necessarily performed sequentially. For example, the order of the operations may be changed, and at least two operations may be performed in parallel. For example, the electronic device of FIG. 5 may be the electronic device (101) of FIG. 1 , FIG. 2 , or FIG. 3 .

[0099] According to one embodiment referring to FIG. 5, an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101) of FIG. 1, FIG. 2, or FIG. 3) or a processor (e.g., processor (120) of FIG. 1 or processor (300) of FIG. 3) may, in operation 501, check the wireless communication performance of the electronic device (101) when performing wireless communication through a plurality of antennas (e.g., a plurality of antennas (320) of FIG. 3). For example, the wireless communication performance of the electronic device (101) may be checked based on the wireless communication performances of the plurality of antennas (320).

[0100] According to one embodiment, an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or a processor (e.g., processor (120 or 300)) may determine, in operation 503, whether the wireless communication performance of the electronic device (101) satisfies a specified weak electric field condition. For example, a state in which the specified weak electric field condition is satisfied may include a state in which the wireless communication performance (e.g., received signal strength) of the electronic device (101) is lower than a specified reference performance. For example, a state in which the specified weak electric field condition is not satisfied may include a state in which the wireless communication performance (e.g., received signal strength) of the electronic device (101) is higher than a specified reference performance.

[0101] According to one embodiment, if an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or a processor (e.g., processor (120 or 300)) determines that a specified weak electric field condition is not satisfied (e.g., 'No' in operation 503), the processor may terminate an embodiment for checking wireless communication performance of a plurality of antennas. For example, if the processor (300) determines that a specified weak electric field condition is not satisfied, the processor may determine that the electronic device (101) is located in a medium or strong electric field region. If the processor (300) determines that the electronic device (101) is located in a medium or strong electric field region, the processor (300) may determine that the wireless communication performance required by the electronic device (101) can be maintained through the plurality of antennas (320).

[0102] According to one embodiment, when an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or a processor (e.g., processor (120 or 300)) determines that a specified weak electric field condition is satisfied (e.g., 'Yes' in operation 503), in operation 505, it may determine whether a specified first period has arrived. For example, when the processor (300) determines that a specified weak electric field condition is satisfied, it may determine that the electronic device (101) is located in a weak electric field area. When the processor (300) determines that the electronic device (101) is located in a weak electric field area, it may determine whether a specified first period has arrived to check the wireless communication performance of each antenna (e.g., the first antenna (322) or the second antenna (324)) to determine whether to continuously use the plurality of antennas (320). For example, the designated first period may be set based on at least one of a period for updating a tuner's configuration value (e.g., a tuning code) in an RRC connected state (e.g., about 200 ms) or a paging period in an RRC idle state or an RRC inactive state (e.g., about 320 ms or about 640 ms).

[0103] According to one embodiment, an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or a processor (e.g., processor (120 or 300)) may, if the specified first period has not arrived (e.g., 'No' in operation 505), determine whether the specified first period has arrived in operation 505. For example, when the processor (300) is performing wireless communication via a plurality of antennas (320), the processor (300) may periodically or continuously determine whether the specified first period has arrived.

[0104] According to one embodiment, an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or a processor (e.g., processor (120 or 300)) may, when a designated first period arrives (e.g., 'Yes' in operation 505), in operation 507, check wireless communication performance of a plurality of antennas used for wireless communication (e.g., the plurality of antennas (320) of FIG. 3). For example, the wireless communication performance may include at least one of a quality of a signal (or an average value of the signal quality) received through each antenna (e.g., the first antenna (322) or the second antenna (324)) during a designated period of time or status information of a receiving path associated with each antenna. For example, the signal quality may include at least one of a received signal strength indicator (RSSI), a reference signal received quality (RSRQ), a reference signal received power (RSRP), a signal to noise ratio (SNR), a signal to interference and noise ratio (SINR), a quality of service (QoS), or a bit error rate (BER).

[0105] FIG. 6 is a flowchart (600) for changing the tuning method of a first antenna in an electronic device according to one embodiment. In the following embodiments, the operations may be performed sequentially, but are not necessarily performed sequentially. For example, the order of the operations may be changed, and at least two operations may be performed in parallel. For example, the electronic device of FIG. 6 may be the electronic device (101) of FIG. 1, FIG. 2, or FIG. 3.

[0106] According to one embodiment referring to FIG. 6, an electronic device (e.g., the electronic device (101) of FIG. 1, FIG. 2, or FIG. 3) or a processor (e.g., the processor (120) of FIG. 1 or the processor (300) of FIG. 3) may, in operation 601, check the wireless communication performance of a plurality of antennas (e.g., the plurality of antennas (320) of FIG. 3) when performing wireless communication of a plurality of antennas (e.g., the plurality of antennas (320) of FIG. 3). For example, the processor (300) may control the communication circuit (310) to perform wireless communication through the plurality of antennas (320) in a state where a setting value of a tuner related to a first antenna (322) is set based on a first tuning method. For example, the first tuning method may include an active detune method, which sets a tuner associated with the first antenna (322) by considering at least one of the wireless communication performance of the first antenna (322) and the second antenna (324) or the isolation between the first antenna (322) and the second antenna (324). For example, the wireless communication may include at least one of LTE (long term evolution) or NR (new radio) as a communication method using a plurality of antennas.

[0107] For example, when the electronic device (101) is in a weak electric field state during wireless communication, the processor (300) can periodically check the wireless communication performance of each antenna (e.g., the first antenna (322) and the second antenna (324)) used for wireless communication based on a designated first period. For example, the designated first period may be set based on at least one of a period for updating a setting value (e.g., a tuning code) of a tuner (e.g., about 200 ms) or a paging period (e.g., about 320 ms or about 640 ms). For example, the weak electric field state may include a state in which the wireless communication performance of the electronic device (101) satisfies a designated weak electric field condition, and a state in which the strength of a wireless signal received by the electronic device (101) is lower than a designated reference strength. For example, the wireless communication performance may include at least one of the quality of a signal received through each antenna (e.g., the first antenna (322) or the second antenna (324)) over a specified period of time or status information of a receiving path associated with each antenna.

[0108] According to one embodiment, an electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or a processor (e.g., processor (120 or 300)) may determine, in operation 603, whether a difference value in wireless communication performance of a plurality of antennas (e.g., the first antenna (322) and the second antenna (324) of FIG. 3) being used for wireless communication satisfies a designated first switching condition. For example, a state in which the designated first switching condition is satisfied may include a state in which the wireless communication performance of the second antenna (322) is lower than the wireless communication performance of the first antenna (322) by a designated reference difference or more, and a state in which a reception imbalance phenomenon occurs between the first antenna (322) and the second antenna (324). For example, a state in which the specified first switching condition is not satisfied may include a state in which the wireless communication performance of the second antenna (322) is within a specified standard difference from the wireless communication performance of the first antenna (322), and a state in which no reception imbalance phenomenon occurs between the first antenna (322) and the second antenna (324).

[0109] According to one embodiment, when the electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or the processor (e.g., processor (120 or 300)) determines that the specified first switching condition is satisfied (e.g., 'Yes' in operation 603), in operation 605, it may determine whether the specified second switching condition is satisfied based on the wireless communication performance of the second antenna (324) (e.g., MIMO antenna). For example, a state in which the specified second performance condition is satisfied may include a state in which the RSRP of the second antenna (324) is less than or equal to a specified reference RSRP (e.g., about -125 dBm) and the SNR of the second antenna (324) is less than or equal to a specified reference SNR (e.g., about 0). For example, a state in which the specified second performance condition is not satisfied may include a state in which the RSRP of the second antenna (324) exceeds a specified reference RSRP (e.g., about -125 dBm) or a state in which the SNR of the second antenna (324) exceeds a specified reference SNR (e.g., about 0). For example, a state in which the specified second switching condition is satisfied may include a state in which the RI (rank indicator or rank index) that the electronic device (101) continuously or periodically transmits to the network is set to a specified first set value (e.g., "1"). For example, a state in which the RI (rank indicator or rank index) that the electronic device (101) continuously or periodically transmits to the network is set to a specified second set value (e.g., "2"). For example, an RI of the specified second set value may include a state in which a plurality of antennas are not affected by interference (or correlation) with each other.

[0110] For example, the second antenna (324) may be an auxiliary antenna for multi-antenna communication (e.g., multi-input multi-output (MIMO) or diversity) and may include an antenna that is physically adjacent to the first antenna (322). For example, the second antenna (324) may be used to receive a signal.

[0111] According to one embodiment, if the electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or the processor (e.g., processor (120 or 300)) determines that the specified second switching condition is satisfied (e.g., 'Yes' in operation 605), in operation 607, the processor may set the tuning method of the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) to the second tuning method. For example, if the processor (300) determines that the specified second performance condition is satisfied, the processor (300) may determine that the wireless communication performance of the second antenna (324) does not affect the wireless communication performance of the electronic device (101). Based on the determination that the wireless communication performance of the second antenna (324) does not affect the wireless communication performance of the electronic device (101), the processor (300) may change the tuning method of the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) to the second tuning method. For example, the second tuning method may include an active tune method, which is a method of setting a tuner related to the first antenna (322) by considering the wireless communication performance of the first antenna (322). For example, the first antenna (322) may be an antenna (e.g., a main antenna) with the best wireless communication performance among the plurality of antennas (320) and may be used for transmitting and receiving signals.

[0112] For example, when the processor (300) changes the tuning method of the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) to the second tuning method, the processor (300) may periodically update the setting value (e.g., tuning code) of the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) based on the status information (e.g., VSWR) of the receiving path associated with the first antenna (322) based on a specified first period (e.g., about 200 ms).

[0113] According to one embodiment, if the electronic device (e.g., electronic device (101)) or the processor (e.g., processor (120 or 300)) determines that the specified first switching condition is not satisfied (e.g., 'No' in operation 603) or if the specified second switching condition is not satisfied (e.g., 'No' in operation 605), in operation 609, the processor may set the tuning method of the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) to the first tuning method.

[0114] For example, when the processor (300) changes the tuning method of the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) to the first tuning method, the processor (300) may set the tuner associated with the first antenna (322) to a fixed value set based on the first tuning method. For example, the fixed value may include a value set to maintain isolation of the second antenna (324) at a designated value (e.g., about 30 dB).

[0115] According to one embodiment, if the electronic device (101) determines that the specified first switching condition and the specified second switching condition are satisfied (e.g., 'Yes' of operation 603 and 'Yes' of operation 605), the receiving path associated with the second antenna (324) may be deactivated. For example, deactivating the receiving path may include a series of operations that cut off power to at least one circuit constituting the receiving path.

[0116] For example, the electronic device (101) can reduce unnecessary power consumption as shown in Table 2 by disabling a receiving path associated with the second antenna (324) that is determined to not affect the wireless communication performance of the electronic device (101). As an example, Table 2 may include the current consumption of the electronic device (101) when the electronic device (101) performs LTE communication through a frequency band of B2 (e.g., approximately 1900 MHz band).

[0117] LTE B2 2nd antenna reception path ON 2nd antenna reception path OFF Current consumption 885mA 860mA

[0118] For example, the current consumed by the electronic device (101) for wireless communication in a state where the receiving path related to the second antenna (324) is disabled (e.g., the receiving path of the second antenna is OFF) may be lower than the current consumed by the electronic device (101) for wireless communication in a state where the receiving path related to the second antenna (324) is activated (e.g., the receiving path of the second antenna is ON).

[0119] According to one embodiment, the electronic device (101) may activate the receive path associated with the second antenna (324) based on a determination that the receive path associated with the second antenna (324) is in an inactive state and does not satisfy a designated first switching condition or a designated second switching condition. For example, activating the receive path may include a series of operations that supply power to circuits constituting the receive path to transition to a state in which reception of a signal can be performed through the receive path.

[0120] According to one embodiment, an operating method of an electronic device (e.g., the electronic device (101) of FIG. 1, FIG. 2, or FIG. 3) having a plurality of antennas (e.g., the antenna module (197) of FIG. 1 or the plurality of antennas (320) of FIG. 3) that are physically adjacent to each other may include an operation of setting a tuner associated with a first antenna (e.g., the first antenna (322) of FIG. 3) among the plurality of antennas by using a first tuning method that sets a tuner based on wireless communication performance (e.g., at least one of reception signal quality or reception path status information) of the plurality of antennas. According to one embodiment, the operating method of the electronic device may include an operation of checking wireless communication performance of the plurality of antennas in a state in which a tuner associated with the first antenna is set based on the first tuning method. According to one embodiment, the operating method of the electronic device may include an operation of changing a tuning method of the first antenna to a second tuning method that sets a tuner by considering the wireless communication performance of the first antenna, when a difference value between wireless communication performances of a first antenna and a second antenna (e.g., the second antenna (324) of FIG. 3) satisfies a specified first switching condition. According to one embodiment, the operating method of the electronic device may include an operation of setting a tuner associated with the first antenna based on the second tuning method.

[0121] According to one embodiment, a method of operating an electronic device may include an operation of determining that a specified first switching condition is satisfied when a wireless communication performance (e.g., at least one of a reception signal quality or status information of a reception path) of a first antenna is higher than a wireless communication performance of a second antenna by a specified reference difference value or more.

[0122] According to one embodiment, a method of operating an electronic device may include an operation of disabling a receiving path associated with a second antenna when it is determined that a difference value between wireless communication performances (e.g., at least one of a reception signal quality or status information of a reception path) of a first antenna and a second antenna satisfies a specified first switching condition.

[0123] According to one embodiment, the operation of changing to the second tuning method may include, when it is determined that a difference value between wireless communication performances (e.g., at least one of reception signal quality or reception path status information) of the first antenna and the second antenna satisfies a specified first switching condition, an operation of checking whether the wireless communication performance of the second antenna satisfies a specified second switching condition, and when it is determined that the specified second switching condition is satisfied, an operation of changing the tuning method of the first antenna (322) to the second tuning method.

[0124] According to one embodiment, a method of operating an electronic device may include an operation of determining that a specified second switching condition is satisfied when a reference signal received power (RSRP) of a second antenna is less than or equal to a reference RSRP and a signal to noise ratio (SNR) of the second antenna is less than the reference SNR.

[0125] According to one embodiment, the method of operating the electronic device may include an operation of disabling a receiving path associated with the second antenna when it is determined that the wireless communication performance of the second antenna (e.g., at least one of the received signal quality or the status information of the receiving path) satisfies the specified second switching condition.

[0126] According to one embodiment, the operation of verifying wireless communication performance may include an operation of verifying wireless communication performance of a plurality of antennas based on a specified period when the electronic device is located in a weak electric field area.
