Description

ELECTRICAL CONTACT, METHOD FOR SOLDERING COAXIAL CABLE USING THE SAME, CONNECTION STRUCTURE OF COAXIAL CABLE AND ELECTRONIC DEVICETECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present application relates to a means for soldering a coaxial cable to a substrate, in particular to an electrical contact, a method for soldering a coaxial cable using the same, a connection structure of coaxial cable, and an electronic device.BACKGROUND

[0002] Recently, the wireless network connection is essential for mobile devices or wearable devices such as wireless headphones, VR headsets, AR glasses and so on, and each device has an antenna system corresponding to a band such as cellular, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and so on. Generally, the antenna system of these devices consists of an antenna element, a RF circuit, and a cable for signal transmission between the antenna element and the RF circuit. As these devices require higher frequencies and higher speeds due to the increasing data volume, coaxial cable is the main type of cable connected between the antenna element and the RF circuit, and especially from the perspective of space, micro coaxial cable which cable diameter is less than 1mm is frequently used. A micro coaxial cable consists of center conductor, insulator, outer conductor and jacket, and typically, the center conductor and the outer conductor are each soldered to a pad to realize the connection from the perspective of cost and space.

[0003] However, the inventor found that as the micro coaxial cable is very thin and the outer conductor is composed of metal mesh-shaped material, the melted solder can flow to the cable side along the outer conductor into the jacket unintentionally, which will cause a hardening problem to the cable and extend the soldering time.

[0004] Prior art 1 (Unexamined Japanese Patent Publication No. 2005-294056) discloses a soldering device for a thin coaxial cable to prevent solder from flowing to the cable side. In prior art 1, a shield of the coaxial cable is arranged in a ground bar, the solder is supplied to the ground bar and the shield, a cooling member is installed adjacently to the ground bar, when soldering the ground bar and the shield, the region adjacent to the cooling member is cooled so that the solder  is prevented from flowing to the jacket side.

[0005] Although the device used in prior art 1 solved the problem that the solder flows to the cable side when soldering, but the structure of the device is complicated and is not applicable for soldering a coaxial cable to a substrate.

[0006] Prior art 2 (Unexamined Japanese Patent Publication No. 2009-105008) discloses a connection structure to simplify and solidify the connection between the coaxial cable and the circuit substrate. In prior art 2, a connection fitting is wound around the coaxial cable to contact an outer conductor, the circuit substrate is formed with a step-shaped slit having an opening at the edge. A narrow-width portion is provided close to the open end of the slit, and a wide-width portion having a wide width is provided. Moreover, an end surface of the connection fitting is configured to face and abut a step surface on the boundary between the wide-width portion and the narrow-width portion of the slit. The slit side of the wide-width portion is formed with a conductor pattern that is bonded to the connection fitting by solder.

[0007] Although prior art 2 has provided a connection structure for a coaxial cable and a circuit board, but the structure is too tiny to operate when it comes to a micro coaxial cable and it is necessary to process the circuit board into a certain shape to adopt this structure, which will extend processing time and cause an increase in cost.SUMMARY

[0045] DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE EMBODIMENTS

[0046] The technical solutions of the embodiments of the present application will be described in more detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings. It is obvious that the embodiments to be described are only some rather than all of the embodiments of the present application. All other embodiments obtained by persons skilled in the art based on the embodiments of the present application without creative efforts shall fall within the scope of the present application.

[0047] It should be noted that if there is a directional indication (such as up, down, left, right, front, rear…) in the embodiments of the present application, the directional indication is only used to explain the relative positional relationship, movement, etc. of the components in a certain posture (as shown in the drawings) . If the specific posture changes, the directional indication will change accordingly.

[0048] In the present application, unless otherwise clearly specified and limited, the terms “connected” , “fixed” , etc. should be interpreted broadly. For example, “fixed” can be a fixed connection, a detachable connection, or a whole; can be a mechanical connection or an electrical connection; may be directly connected, or indirectly connected through an intermediate medium, and may be the internal communication between two elements or the interaction relationship between two elements, unless specifically defined otherwise. For those of ordinary skill in the art, the specific meaning of the above-mentioned terms in the present application can be understood according to specific circumstances.

[0049] It should be noted that, the descriptions associated with, e.g., “first” and “second, ” in the present application are merely for descriptive purposes, and cannot be understood as indicating or suggesting relative importance or impliedly indicating the number of the indicated technical feature. Therefore, the feature associated with “first” or “second” can expressly or impliedly include at least one such feature.

[0050] Besides, the meaning of “and / or” appearing in the present application includes three parallel scenarios. For example, “A and / or B” includes only A, or only B, or both A and B. In addition, the technical solutions between the various embodiments can be combined with each other, but they must be based on the realization of those of ordinary skill in the art. When the combination of technical solutions is contradictory or cannot be achieved, it should be considered that such a combination of technical solutions does not exist, nor is it within the scope of the present application.

[0051] As shown in FIG. 1 to FIG. 4, an embodiment of the present application provides an  electrical contact, and the electrical contact includes a base portion, a restriction portion 2, and an elastic portion 3. The base portion includes a mounting portion 11, an outer conductor contact portion 12, and a guiding portion 13. The mounting portion 11 is configured to be mounted on a substrate ss (which usually is a printed circuit board (PCB) ) , and is adjacent to the outer conductor contact portion 12 and the guiding portion 13. The outer conductor contact portion 12 is provided with a first hole 121, the restriction portion 2 is provided with a second hole 21, and the guiding portion is provided with a third hole 131. The guiding portion 13 is opposite to the outer conductor contact portion 12, the third hole 131 faces the first hole 121. The elastic portion 3 is connected between the restriction portion 2 and the guiding portion 13. The elastic portion 3 is capable of being elastically deformed when the restriction portion 2 is subjected to an external force and moves close to the outer conductor contact portion 12 so as to align the second hole 21 and the first hole 121, and capable of driving the restriction portion 2 move away from the outer conductor contact portion 12 when the external force is removed. The first hole 121 is between the second hole 21 and the third hole 131 when the first hole 121 and the second hole 21 are aligned.

[0052] Although the electrical contact in this embodiment includes these portions, it does not necessarily mean that they are produced individually and then assembled to form the electrical contact. Basically, in practical production, the electrical contact in this embodiment is made of metal sheet, especially the stainless steel sheet or copper sheet, which can bring the electrical contact a good electrical conductivity and elasticity and keep it from rusting within a relative long time period. The electrical contact is formed by punching and bending the stainless steel sheet or the copper sheet, and in particular, these portions are formed by bending, and these holes are formed by punching. It should be noted that the machining process is not limited, all other possible means for producing the electrical contact that are well known to those skilled in the art should fall within the scope of the present application.

[0053] Although the elastic portion 3 of the electrical contact can be elastically deformed and can provide an elastic force to the restriction portion 2 and drive it move away from the outer conductor contact portion 12, it does not necessarily mean that the elastic portion 3 is an individual part of the electrical contact. Basically, the elastic portion 3 is a portion (or an area) of the electrical contact where the restriction portion 2 and the guiding portion 13 are connected, and there is no clear or definite boundary among them. Since the electrical contact is made of metal sheet, it has a certain elasticity, and as the base portion is mounted on the substrate ss via the mounting portion 11, when the restriction portion 2 is subjected to an external force (such as being pressed by fingers) , a portion of the electrical contact away from a free end of the  restriction portion 2 and connected to the guiding portion 13 is much more easy to deform, and which is the elastic portion 3. Especially, in this embodiment, the elastic portion 3 is of a U-shaped structure, one end of the U-shaped structure is connected to the guiding portion 13, and the other end of the U-shaped structure is connected to the restriction portion 2. In this way, the elastic portion 3 is easier to deform and has a better elasticity, and metal fatigue is less possible to happen in the elastic portion 3.

[0054] Below are descriptions of the method for using this electrical contact to solder a micro coaxial cable and the connection structure of micro coaxial cable formed thereby.

[0055] An embodiment of the present application provides a method for using the above-mentioned electrical contact to solder a micro coaxial cable, and as shown in FIG. 7, the method includes the following steps:

[0056] Firstly, mounting an electrical contact on a substrate ss by soldering or fastening with fasteners (such as screws or clips if possible) ; then S100: pressing the restriction portion 2 of the electrical contact to align the first hole 121 and the second hole 21; and S200: inserting a micro coaxial cable through the second hole 21, the first hole 121 and the third hole 131 along the arrow direction shown in FIG. 3b; and finally, S300: releasing the restriction portion 2 and soldering the center conductor cc of the micro coaxial cable to the substrate ss.

[0057] The connection structure of micro coaxial cable is formed after the above procedure, and the connection structure includes the substrate ss, the micro coaxial cable, and the above-mentioned electrical contact; the mounting portion 11 of the electrical contact is mounted on the substrate ss, the outer conductor co is pulled by the restriction portion 2 to be abutted against the outer conductor contact portion 12, the insulator ci and the center conductor cc of the micro coaxial cable is threaded through the third hole 131, and the center conductor cc is soldered to the substrate ss.

[0058] In this way, the outer conductor co is electrically connected to the substrate ss via the outer conductor contact portion 12 and the mounting portion 11, the soldering for the outer conductor co is thus no more needed, the problem that the solder flows to the cable side along the outer conductor into the jacket cj is solved.

[0059] As shown in FIG. 5a and FIG. 5b, there are a first soldering area sa1 and a second soldering area sa2 in a conventional connection structure of micro coaxial cable, the first soldering area sa1 is for soldering the center conductor cc, and the second soldering area sa2 is for soldering the outer conductor co. However, the center conductor cc often deforms due to various reasons, and it will be exposed after soldering as shown in FIG. 5b. In the connection structure of the above embodiment, the center conductor cc is pressed close to the substrate ss by  the elastic force of the elastic portion 3, the relative directional relation between the center conductor cc and the substrate ss is corrected, which facilitates the soldering, and the center conductor cc is less possible to be exposed. Meanwhile, as the outer conductor co is typically composed of mesh like metal, it will soak much melted solder and cause unnecessary waste when soldering; while in the connection structure of the above embodiment, the soldering for the outer conductor co is avoided, the waste is thus prevented and the cost is reduced. Furthermore, the soldering method in this embodiment is simple and easy to implement, which can shorten the soldering time and improve the productivity, and the base film of the substrate is less possible to be damaged by the heat generated during the soldering process due to the shortened soldering time.

[0060] The guiding portion 13 provided to the electrical contact in the above embodiment provides a guidance for the insertion of the micro coaxial cable. In this embodiment, the diameter of the first hole 121 is greater than the diameter of the third hole 131, and in particular, the diameter of the first hole 121 (along with the second hole 21) can be arranged equal to or slightly greater than the diameter of the outer conductor co, and the diameter of the third hole 131 can be arranged equal to or slightly greater than the diameter of the insulator ci but lesser than the diameter of the outer conductor co. In this way, the insertion of the micro coaxial cable can be well guided, the relative positional relation between the micro coaxial cable and the substrate ss can be determined without sparing extra efforts, and the soldering time can be further shortened and the productivity can be further improved.

[0061] Meanwhile, it should be noted that the term “align” appearing in the present application does not mean that the first hole 121 and the second hole 21 should necessarily be precisely aligned, when axis y and axis x are approximately or exactly coincident, in other words, when the micro coaxial cable can be inserted through the first hole 121 and the second hole 21, the first hole 121 and the second hole 21 can be seen as aligned.

[0062] In order to facilitate mounting the electrical contact on the substrate ss, the mounting portion 11 is provided with two flanges 111 on two opposite ends of the mounting portion 11, and the electrical contact can be mounted on the substrate ss by soldering or fastening the two flanges 111 to the substrate ss.

[0063] Further, in this embodiment, the axis of the third hole 131 (axis z) is closer to the mounting portion 11 than the axis of the first hole 121 (axis x) , in this way, the micro coaxial cable can be obliquely inserted under the guidance of the guiding portion 13, the center conductor cc is thus oblique to the substrate ss, and the center conductor is less possible to be exposed after soldering.

[0064] Further, in this embodiment, the third hole 131 is downwards extended to the mounting portion 11, in this way, an interference between the guiding portion 13 and the micro coaxial cable during the insertion can be avoided.

[0065] FIG. 6 shows various variations of the electrical contact in the above embodiment.

[0066] Please see variation (a) , the U-shaped elastic portion is changed into a regular shape, which is simply a bended transition portion between the guiding portion 13 and the restriction portion 2. Although the variation (a) does not possess the additional advantages brought by the U-shaped elastic portion, it can still be deformed when the restriction portion 2 is subjected to an external force and can provide an elastic force to drive the restriction portion 2 when the external force is removed.

[0067] Please see variation (b) , the U-shaped elastic portion 3 is reserved, but the guiding portion 13 is removed, and the U-shaped elastic portion 3 is connected between the restriction portion 2 and the outer conductor contact portion 12. Although the guiding portion is removed from the variation (b) , the outer conductor can still be pulled by the restriction portion 2 to be abutted against the outer conductor contact portion 12, the outer conductor is able to be electrically connected to the substrate, and the soldering for the outer conductor can still be avoided.

[0068] Please see variation (c) , the U-shaped elastic portion is changed into a regular shape based on variation (b) , but similar to variation (a) , although variation (c) does not possess the additional advantages brought by the U-shaped elastic portion, the elastic portion 3 can still provide an elastic force to pull the outer conductor close to the outer conductor contact portion 12, so as to realize an electrical connection between the outer conductor and the substrate.

[0069] Please see variation (d) , in this variation, when the restriction portion 2 is pressed to move downwards, the second hole 21 and the first hole 121 can be aligned. However, when they are aligned, the second hole 21 is positioned between the first hole 121 and the third hole 131. In this condition, the restriction portion 2 cannot play a drive role on the coaxial cable like the embodiment shown in FIG. 3b to pull a side of the coaxial cable opposite to the center conductor cc side relative to the first hole 121, and use the first hole 121 as a pivot to press the center conductor cc against the substrate to correct it for easier soldering. But it can still ensure that the outer conductor co can be in well contacted with the outer conductor contact portion 12, and the third hole 131 of the guiding portion 13 can still play a guidance role on the coaxial cable.

[0070] The present application also provides an electronic device, which can be a head-mounted display, a pair of AR glasses, or the like. The electronic device includes a circuit substrate, a coaxial cable and the above-mentioned electrical contact, and one end of the coaxial  cable is connected to the circuit substrate via the electrical contact.

[0071] In some embodiments, the circuit substrate at least includes a first conductive area and a second conductive area (corresponding to the above-mentioned first soldering area and second soldering area) that are not connected, a center conductor of the coaxial cable is electrically connected to the first conductive area, and an outer conductor of the coaxial cable is electrically connected to the second conductive area via the electrical contact.

[0072] In some embodiments, the electronic device further includes an antenna assembly, and the other end of the coaxial cable is connected to the antenna assembly.

[0073] Based on the above, when the electronic device is a head-mounted display including a display assembly and a front shell, the circuit substrate can be provided between the display assembly and the front shell; and when the electronic device is a pair of glasses including temples and rims, the circuit substrate can be provided inside the temples and / or the rims.

[0074] Last but not least, the above embodiments are described along with the micro coaxial cable as examples, but it can be understood that the technical solution of the present application is also applicable to a coaxial cable which is thicker than the micro coaxial cable or other cable or a contact pin for board mounting.

[0075] Although the present application has been described with reference to the preferred embodiment thereof, it is apparent to those skilled in the art that various modifications and changes may be made without departing from the scope of the present application which is intended to be defined by the claims.
