[0029] The reference numerals are as follows: DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0030] In an application, the holder carrier may be a sheet metal bracket, and the card holders are respectively mounted and adjusted by screws on the sheet metal bracket. The sheet metal bracket is mounted on supports which are fixed on the housing. Due to the low rigidity of sheet metal, the sheet metal bracket always have large dimension, but with limited anti-rotation effect.

[0031] In another application, the holder carrier may be a round metal carrier, and the card holders clamp on the round metal carrier and may be adjusted by rotating the card holders around the round metal carrier, the round metal carrier can be plugged into a plastic bearing easily without tightening any screw. No-screw assembly make it easy to assembly and service, but the plastic bearing only provides limited anti-rotation effect for the card holders, the card holders will rotate elastically when a heavier load is applied to the card holders.

[0032] In order to obtain a more reliable card holder assembly, it is considered to provide a carrier kit for holding the holder carrier with good strength and structure that is easy to assemble and disassemble.

[0033] Reference will now be made in detail to examples, which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings. In the following detailed description, numerous specific details are set forth in order to provide a thorough understanding of the present application. Also, the figures are illustrations of an example, in which assemblies shown in the figures are not necessarily essential for implementing the present application. In other instances, well-known assemblies, components, and circuits have not been described in detail so as not to unnecessarily obscure aspects of the examples.

[0034] Figure 1A is a schematic diagram illustrating a card holder assembly according to an example of the present application. Figure 1B is a partial sectional view in direction Ⅰ-Ⅰof the first end. Figure 1C is a partial sectional view in direction Ⅰ-Ⅰof the second end. Figure 1D is a partial sectional view in direction Ⅱ-Ⅱof the first end. Figure 1E is a partial sectional view in directionⅢ-Ⅲof the second end. Figure 2 is a schematic diagram illustrating the relationship between card holders and cards according to the example shown in figure 1A. Figure 3 is a schematic diagram illustrating a holder carrier in the card holder assembly shown in figures 1A to 2. Figure 4 is a schematic diagram illustrating a carrier kit in the card holder assembly shown in figures 1A to 2. As shown in figures 1A to 4, the card holder assembly includes at least one card holder 1, a holder carrier 2 and two carrier kits 3.

[0035] Each card holder 1 is constructed to hold one add-in card 4 in a device, for instance, an IPC. In an example, the card holder 1 may be made of plastic. In another example, the card holder 1 may be made of other materials such as metal but its contact area with the add-in card 4 is made of insulating materials such as rubber or plastic.

[0036] The holder carrier 2 is constructed to carry and fix the at least one card holder 1. In the example shown in figures 1A to 4, the cross-section of the holder carrier 2 is round. In another example, the cross-section of the holder carrier 2 may be other shape, such as hexagonal, and other polygonal. In the example, the older carrier 2 may be made of metal.

[0037] The two carrier kits 3 are constructed to be fixed on a stationary component, for instance, the housing 5 of the device, and to fix the holder carrier 2 with structure of positioning shaft and positioning groove. Each carrier kit 3 is used to fix one end of the holder carrier 2. In the example, the two carrier kits 3 may be made of metal, and may be made by machining process. In an example, the thickness of the carrier kit may be about 3.5mm.

[0038] In the example shown in figures 1A to 4, one end, which may be called the first end, of the holder carrier 2 includes: a first positioning shaft structure 21 with N1 first planes 211 for restricting the rotation of the holder carrier 2, and a block structure 22 which is located at the end of the first positioning shaft structure 21for restricting the axial position of the holder carrier 2. N1 is any integer from 1A to 4. Two parallel first planes 211 are taken as an example in figures 1A to 4. In an example, the first positioning shaft structure 21 and the  block structure 22 may be formed by turning the cylindrical holder carrier 2, namely by processing N1 first planes on the cylindrical holder carrier 2.

[0039] The other end, which may be called the second end, of the holder carrier 2 includes: a second positioning shaft structure 23 with N2 second plane 231 for restricting the rotation of the holder carrier 2, and a radial position restricting structure 24. N2 is any integer from 1A to 4. Two parallel second planes 231 are taken as an example in figures 1A to 4. In an example, the second positioning shaft structure 23 may be formed by turning the cylindrical holder carrier 2, namely by processing N2 second planes on the cylindrical holder carrier 2.

[0040] In the example shown in figures 1A to 4, in order to reduce the number of parts and reduce the difficulty of processing, the two carrier kits 3 may have the same structure, namely each of the two carrier kits 3 includes: an import hole 31, a positioning groove 32 and a block room33.

[0041] The import hole 31 is constructed to import one end of the holder carrier 2. In another example, in order to make it easy to import the holder carrier 2, figure 5 is a schematic diagram illustrating another carrier kit according to an example of the present application. As shown in figure 5, the import hole 31 may include an opening 311, which is constructed to import the one end of the holder carrier 2 into the import hole 31.

[0042] The positioning groove 32 is constructed to be matched with the first positioning shaft structure 21 and the second positioning shaft structure 23, wherein the positioning groove 32 and the import hole 31 are connected, and connecting area comprises a chamfer 321.

[0043] The block room 33 is located at the side of the positioning groove 32 facing the stationary component for example the housing 5, and is constructed to accommodate the block structure 22.

[0044] When the carrier kit 3 is used to fix the end with the first positioning shaft structure 21 and the block structure 22, the positioning groove 32 is matched with the first positioning shaft structure 21, and block room 33 is matched with the block room 33. When the carrier kit 3 is used to fix the end with the second positioning shaft structure 23, the  positioning groove 32 is matched with the second positioning shaft structure 23, and block room 33 does not need to be coordinated with other structures.

[0045] Because the two carrier kits 3 have the same structure, to avoid installing the carrier kit in the wrong direction on the stationary component, for instance, the housing 5, each of the two carrier kits 3 may further include: a direction positioning hole 34, which is constructed to determine a mounting direction of each carrier kit 3 on the stationary component. Simultaneously, there is a corresponding direction positioning pin 51 to be matched with the direction positioning hole34 on the stationary component, for instance, the housing 5. The positions of direction positioning pins 51 corresponding to two carrier kits 3 are different.

[0046] Of course, in another example, the two carrier kits 3 may have different structures. For example, in another example, one of the two carrier kits may include a first import opening, a first positioning groove and a block room. The first import opening is constructed to import the first end of the holder carrier. The first positioning groove is constructed to be matched with the first positioning shaft structure 21, wherein the first positioning groove and the import opening are connected, and connecting area comprises a chamfer. The block room is located at the side of the first positioning groove facing the stationary component for example the housing 5, and is constructed to accommodate the block structure 22.

[0047] The other of the two carrier kits 3 include: a second import opening and a second positioning groove. The second import opening is constructed to import the second end of the holder carrier 2. The second positioning groove is constructed to be matched with the second positioning shaft structure, wherein the second positioning groove and the second import hole are connected, and connecting area comprises a chamfer.

[0048] In an example, the carrier kit 3 may be made by CNC milling machine, compared to sheet metal support or plastic bearing, it has lower tolerance, which can minimize the matching gap of the card holder assembly, so that the idle running can be reduced.

[0049] In the example shown in figures 1A to 4, the radial position restricting structure 24 is an axial threaded hole, which is constructed to be matched with a through hole 52 on the stationary component, for instance, the housing 5, to enable the holder carrier 2 to be fastened to the stationary component, for instance, the housing 5, by a screw 6.

[0050] In another example, the radial position restricting structure 24 may be a radial pin hole, which is constructed to be matched with a through hole on corresponding carrier kit 3, to enable the holder carrier 3 to be fixed with the carrier kit 3 by a pin shaft.

[0051] There are many methods for fixing the carrier kit on the stationary component, for instance, the housing 5. For example, each carrier kit 3 may further include: at least two countersunk mounting holes 35, each of which is constructed to be matched with a mounting hole on the stationary component, for instance, the housing 5, to enable the carrier kit 3 to be fixed on the stationary component by at least two rivets 7. In another example, each carrier kit 3 may be welded on the stationary component. In yet another example, each carrier kit 3 may further include: at least two threaded holes, each of which is constructed to be matched with a countersunk mounting hole on the stationary component, for instance, the housing 5, to enable the carrier kit 3 to be fixed on the stationary component by at least two screws.

[0052] In the example, the purpose of using countersunk mounting holes 35 is to not increase the additional space inside and / or outside the housing 5 occupied by fastening components, for instance, a screw or a rivet. In another example, when the space inside and / or outside the housing 5 is enough, the countersunk mounting holes may be replaced with regular mounting holes.

[0053] Figures 6 to 9 show the steps to assemble the holder carrier with card holders to the housing of the device. The end with the radial position restricting structure 24, for instance, the axial threaded hole, is still called the second end, and the other end is called the first end. The carrier kit corresponding to the second end is called the second carrier kit, and the carrier kit corresponding to the first end is called the first carrier kit.

[0054] Figure 6 shows step 1, move and rotate the holder carrier to insert the second end to the import hole of the second carrier kit, meantime to align the first end to the import hole of the first carrier kit.

[0055] Figure 7 shows step 2, move the holder carrier along the axis of the holder carrier to insert the first end to import hole of the first carrier kit until it’s blocked by housing surface.

[0056] Figure 8 shows step 3, move the holder carrier along the positioning groove 32 on the second carrier kit and the first carrier kit until it’s blocked by the kits.

[0057] Figure 9 shows step 4, tighten only one screw to the threaded hole of the second end to lock the total assembly to the housing of the device.

[0058] An Industrial Personal Computer (IPC) is also provided by examples of the present application. The IPC includes above-mentioned card holder assembly.

[0059] It can be seen from above technical solutions in examples of the application that the radial and axial degree of freedom can be constrained by the screw on the second end and the block structure on the first end. The rotation degrees of freedom of can be constrained by the positioning shaft and groove matching between the holder carrier and carrier kit. Thus the holder carrier can be totally fixed on the housing of the device and reliable support for the card holders can be provided.

[0060] In addition, the strength of the total structure of the card holder assembly can be enhanced since both the holder carrier and the carrier kit are made by metal, and due to the smaller size of positioning shaft and groove feature between the holder carrier and carrier kit, the biggest torsional section modulus can be utilized to overcome the rotational load, as a results, the carrier kit and the holder carrier can provide good anti-rotation effect to fix the card holders, thus the PCI / PCIe cards can be held more accurately.

[0061] Furthermore, because the carrier kit has smaller size than sheet metal support or plastic bearing, the PCI / PCIe cards can be design close to the housing of the device, thus the integral IPC can be made more compact.

[0062] Therefore, technical solutions of present application can provide reliable structure to make sure the add-in cards work properly in shock and vibration environment. The compact structure will bring benefit on limited product size.

[0063] It should be understood that, as configured herein, unless the context clearly support exceptions, the singular forms "a" ( "a" , "an" , "the" ) are intended to include the plural forms. It should also be understood that, "and  / or" configured herein is intended to include any and all possible combinations of one or more of the associated listed items.

[0064] The number of the embodiments of the present application are only configured for description, and do not represent the merits of the implementations.

[0065] The foregoing description, for purpose of explanation, has been described with reference to specific examples. However, the illustrative discussions above are not intended to be exhaustive or to limit the present application to the precise forms disclosed. Many modifications and variations are possible in view of the above teachings. The examples were chosen and described in order to best explain the principles of the present application and its practical applications, to thereby enable others skilled in the art to best utilize the present application and various examples with various modifications as are suited to the particular use contemplated.
