[0034] AI, at least including machine learning (ML) is used to learn and perform certain tasks via training neural networks (NNs) with vast amounts of data, which is successfully applied in computer vison (CV) and nature language processing (NLP) areas. Deep learning, which is a subordinate concept of ML, utilizes multi-layered NNs as an “AI model” (or referred to as AI / ML model or the like) or "AI-based model" (or referred to as AI / ML based model or the like) to learn how to solve problems and / or optimize performance from vast amounts of data. If AI models used on AI-based methods are well trained, the AI-based methods can obtain better performance than the traditional methods. Thus, 3rd generation partnership program (3GPP) has been considering to introduce AI into 3GPP since 2016. For example, 3GPP expects that AI / ML models used by or located at the UE side (also referred to as UE sided models) may be used to realize AI / ML based beam prediction or channel state information (CSI) prediction or CSI compression to improve air interface performance etc.

[0035] However, a trained AI / ML model will only be applicable under the same or similar configurations, parameters and conditions as those under which the AI / ML model was trained. Considering UE mobility, when a certain UE is handed over from a source cell to a target cell either in in the case of intra gNB handover or inter gNB handover, to support the use continuity of AI / ML based air interface use cases, it is needed to support the  determination of AI functionality (including one or multiple models) applicability or AI model applicability at the target cell before the handover execution, such that an applicable AI functionality or model could be activated during the handover procedure. Otherwise, the AI functionality or model could not be activated based on the target cell configuration until the handover is completed and the UE reports the applicability information related to the associated AI functionalities or models to the target cell.

[0036] At least considering that, various aspects of the present disclosure propose that before handover execution for a UE (including intra and inter RAN node handover) , the network, e.g., a source RAN node in the case of inter-RAN node handover or a serving RAN node (herein, also referring to as a source RAN node for simplification) will consider the interest of candidate target cells (or possible target cells or potential target cells or the like) and candidate target RAN nodes (or possible target RAN nodes or potential target RAN nodes or the like) , and will configure the UE to report applicability information related to AI. The reported applicability information is related to whether UE sided AI functionalities or models are applicable in one or multiple cells interested by the source RAN node and / or candidate target RAN node (s) .

[0037] For example, in accordance with various aspects of the present disclosure, the source RAN node, e.g., a source gNB may determine, for a UE (not a specific one) , a report configuration of applicability information related to AI associated with UE sided AI functionalities or models in one or multiple cells, and send the determined report configuration to the UE. The source RAN node may determine the UE sided AI functionalities or models in the one or multiple cells whose applicability information related to AI is requested by itself, e.g., considering intra-gNB handover, or based on the information related to interested UE sided AI functionalities or models received from candidate target RAN nodes, e.g., considering inter-gNB handover. Based on the report configuration, the UE may determine whether there is applicability information related to AI needed to be reported, which may be associated with part or all of the configured UE sided AI functionalities or models in the one or multiple cells. In the case that there is applicability information related to AI needed to be reported, the UE may send, to the source RAN node, the applicability information related to AI needed to be reported, e.g., via a RRC message.

[0038] When the source RAN node triggers a handover to a target cell under a target RAN node and the received applicability information related to AI is at least related to UE sided AI functionalities or models in the target cell, the source RAN node may send to the target RAN node, the applicability information related to AI associated with the UE sided AI functionalities or models in the target cell in a handover request message. Then, the target RAN node may activate the UE sided AI functionalities or models in the target cell in a handover command based on the received applicability information related to AI. For example, activating a UE sided functionality or model may mean that the UE will start producing prediction results (e.g., predicted beam quality, and / or predicted cell quality etc. ) according to the configuration provided by the target RAN node. The handover command sent to the UE may be in a form of RRC reconfiguration message, including reconfigurationWithSync or the like. When the source RAN node triggers a handover to a target cell also under the source RAN node and the received applicability information related to AI is at least associated with UE sided AI functionalities or models in the target cell, the source RAN node may activate the UE sided AI functionalities or models in the target cell in a handover command based on the received applicability information related to AI.

[0039] Aspects of the present disclosure are described in the context of a wireless communications system.

[0040] Figure 1 illustrates an example of a wireless communications system 100 in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The wireless communications system 100 may include one or more NE 102, one or more UE 104, and a core network (CN) 106. The wireless communications system 100 may support various radio access technologies. In some implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a 4G network, such as an LTE network or an LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) network. In some other implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a NR network, such as a 5G network, a 5G-Advanced (5G-A) network, or a 5G ultrawideband (5G-UWB) network. In other implementations, the wireless communications system 100 may be a combination of a 4G network and a 5G network, or other suitable radio access technology including Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 (Wi-Fi) , IEEE 802.16 (WiMAX) , IEEE 802.20. The wireless communications system 100 may support radio access technologies  beyond 5G, for example, 6G. Additionally, the wireless communications system 100 may support technologies, such as time division multiple access (TDMA) , frequency division multiple access (FDMA) , or code division multiple access (CDMA) , etc.

[0041] The one or more NE 102 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region to form the wireless communications system 100. One or more of the NE 102 described herein may be or include or may be referred to as a network node, a base station, a network element, a network function, a network entity, a radio access network (RAN) , a NodeB, an eNodeB (eNB) , a next-generation NodeB (gNB) , or other suitable terminology. An NE 102 and a UE 104 may communicate via a communication link, which may be a wireless or wired connection. For example, an NE 102 and a UE 104 may perform wireless communication (e.g., receive signaling, transmit signaling) over a Uu interface.

[0042] An NE 102 may provide a geographic coverage area for which the NE 102 may support services for one or more UEs 104 within the geographic coverage area. For example, an NE 102 and a UE 104 may support wireless communication of signals related to services (e.g., voice, video, packet data, messaging, broadcast, etc. ) according to one or multiple radio access technologies. In some implementations, an NE 102 may be moveable, for example, a satellite associated with a non-terrestrial network (NTN) . In some implementations, different geographic coverage areas 112 associated with the same or different radio access technologies may overlap, but the different geographic coverage areas may be associated with different NE 102.

[0043] The one or more UE 104 may be dispersed throughout a geographic region of the wireless communications system 100. A UE 104 may include or may be referred to as a remote unit, a mobile device, a wireless device, a remote device, a subscriber device, a transmitter device, a receiver device, or some other suitable terminology. In some implementations, the UE 104 may be referred to as a unit, a station, a terminal, or a client, among other examples. Additionally, or alternatively, the UE 104 may be referred to as an Internet-of-Things (IoT) device, an Internet-of-Everything (IoE) device, or machine-type communication (MTC) device, among other examples.

[0044] A UE 104 may be able to support wireless communication directly with other UEs 104 over a communication link. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication  directly with another UE 104 over a device-to-device (D2D) communication link. In some implementations, such as vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) deployments, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) deployments, or cellular-V2X deployments, the communication link 114 may be referred to as a sidelink. For example, a UE 104 may support wireless communication directly with another UE 104 over a PC5 interface.

[0045] An NE 102 may support communications with the CN 106, or with another NE 102, or both. For example, an NE 102 may interface with other NE 102 or the CN 106 through one or more backhaul links (e.g., S1, N2, N3, or network interface) . In some implementations, the NE 102 may communicate with each other directly. In some other implementations, the NE 102 may communicate with each other or indirectly (e.g., via the CN 106. In some implementations, one or more NE 102 may include subcomponents, such as an access network entity, which may be an example of an access node controller (ANC) . An ANC may communicate with the one or more UEs 104 through one or more other access network transmission entities, which may be referred to as a radio heads, smart radio heads, or transmission-reception points (TRPs) .

[0046] The CN 106 may support user authentication, access authorization, tracking, connectivity, and other access, routing, or mobility functions. The CN 106 may be an evolved packet core (EPC) , or a 5G core (5GC) , which may include a control plane entity that manages access and mobility (e.g., a mobility management entity (MME) , an access and mobility management functions (AMF) ) and a user plane entity that routes packets or interconnects to external networks (e.g., a serving gateway (S-GW) , a Packet Data Network (PDN) gateway (P-GW) , or a user plane function (UPF) ) . In some implementations, the control plane entity may manage non-access stratum (NAS) functions, such as mobility, authentication, and bearer management (e.g., data bearers, signal bearers, etc. ) for the one or more UEs 104 served by the one or more NE 102 associated with the CN 106.

[0047] The CN 106 may communicate with a packet data network over one or more backhaul links (e.g., via an S1, N2, N3, or another network interface) . The packet data network may include an application server. In some implementations, one or more UEs 104 may communicate with the application server. A UE 104 may establish a session (e.g., a protocol data unit (PDU) session, or the like) with the CN 106 via an NE 102. The CN 106  may route traffic (e.g., control information, data, and the like) between the UE 104 and the application server using the established session (e.g., the established PDU session) . The PDU session may be an example of a logical connection between the UE 104 and the CN 106 (e.g., one or more network functions of the CN 106) .

[0048] In the wireless communications system 100, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may use resources of the wireless communications system 100 (e.g., time resources (e.g., symbols, slots, subframes, frames, or the like) or frequency resources (e.g., subcarriers, carriers) ) to perform various operations (e.g., wireless communications) . In some implementations, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support different resource structures. For example, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support different frame structures. In some implementations, such as in 4G, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support a single frame structure. In some other implementations, such as in 5G and among other suitable radio access technologies, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures (i.e., multiple frame structures) . The NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may support various frame structures based on one or more numerologies.

[0049] One or more numerologies may be supported in the wireless communications system 100, and a numerology may include a subcarrier spacing and a cyclic prefix. A first numerology (e.g., μ=0) may be associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. In some implementations, the first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with the first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may utilize one slot per subframe. A second numerology (e.g., μ=1) may be associated with a second subcarrier spacing (e.g., 30 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A third numerology (e.g., μ=2) may be associated with a third subcarrier spacing (e.g., 60 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix or an extended cyclic prefix. A fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) may be associated with a fourth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 120 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix. A fifth numerology (e.g., μ=4) may be associated with a fifth subcarrier spacing (e.g., 240 kHz) and a normal cyclic prefix.

[0050] A time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to frames (also referred to as radio frames) . Each frame may have a duration, for example, a 10 millisecond (ms) duration. In some implementations, each frame may include multiple subframes. For example, each frame may include 10 subframes, and each subframe  may have a duration, for example, a 1 ms duration. In some implementations, each frame may have the same duration. In some implementations, each subframe of a frame may have the same duration.

[0051] Additionally or alternatively, a time interval of a resource (e.g., a communication resource) may be organized according to slots. For example, a subframe may include a number (e.g., quantity) of slots. The number of slots in each subframe may also depend on the one or more numerologies supported in the wireless communications system 100. For instance, the first, second, third, fourth, and fifth numerologies (i.e., μ=0, μ=1, μ=2, μ=3, μ=4) associated with respective subcarrier spacings of 15 kHz, 30 kHz, 60 kHz, 120 kHz, and 240 kHz may utilize a single slot per subframe, two slots per subframe, four slots per subframe, eight slots per subframe, and 16 slots per subframe, respectively. Each slot may include a number (e.g., quantity) of symbols (e.g., OFDM symbols) . In some implementations, the number (e.g., quantity) of slots for a subframe may depend on a numerology. For a normal cyclic prefix, a slot may include 14 symbols. For an extended cyclic prefix (e.g., applicable for 60 kHz subcarrier spacing) , a slot may include 12 symbols. The relationship between the number of symbols per slot, the number of slots per subframe, and the number of slots per frame for a normal cyclic prefix and an extended cyclic prefix may depend on a numerology. It should be understood that reference to a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) associated with a first subcarrier spacing (e.g., 15 kHz) may be used interchangeably between subframes and slots.

[0052] In the wireless communications system 100, an electromagnetic (EM) spectrum may be split, based on frequency or wavelength, into various classes, frequency bands, frequency channels, etc. By way of example, the wireless communications system 100 may support one or multiple operating frequency bands, such as frequency range designations FR1 (410 MHz –7.125 GHz) , FR2 (24.25 GHz –52.6 GHz) , FR3 (7.125 GHz –24.25 GHz) , FR4 (52.6 GHz –114.25 GHz) , FR4a or FR4-1 (52.6 GHz –71 GHz) , and FR5 (114.25 GHz –300 GHz) . In some implementations, the NEs 102 and the UEs 104 may perform wireless communications over one or more of the operating frequency bands. In some implementations, FR1 may be used by the NEs 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for cellular communications traffic (e.g., control information, data) . In some  implementations, FR2 may be used by the NEs 102 and the UEs 104, among other equipment or devices for short-range, high data rate capabilities.

[0053] FR1 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least three numerologies) . For example, FR1 may be associated with a first numerology (e.g., μ=0) , which includes 15 kHz subcarrier spacing; a second numerology (e.g., μ=1) , which includes 30 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing. FR2 may be associated with one or multiple numerologies (e.g., at least 2 numerologies) . For example, FR2 may be associated with a third numerology (e.g., μ=2) , which includes 60 kHz subcarrier spacing; and a fourth numerology (e.g., μ=3) , which includes 120 kHz subcarrier spacing.

[0054] As the evolution of 3GPP and development of AI technology, more and more application cases (or use cases) in wireless communications that AI / ML functionalities or models can be used are expected. For example, in accordance with various aspects of the present disclosure, UE sided AI / ML functionalities or models may represent but not limited to if UE is capable of using AI techniques to support any of the following exemplary use cases:

[0055] - CSI compression:

[0056] ■ A pair of AI / ML model can be used by UE and NG-RAN node to compress the CSI report. The UE part model works as an encoder to compress the generated CSI report. The NG-RAN part model works as a decoder to decompress the received CSI report after compression.

[0057] - CSI prediction in temporal domain:

[0058] ■ NG-RAN node can predict the future channel state based on historical CSI measurement result.

[0059] - Beam prediction in spatial domain:

[0060] ■ NG-RAN node can predict the layer (L) 1 quality of set A beams based on L1 measurement result of set B beams. Wherein the set B beams can be a subset of set A beams or a different set than set A beams.

[0061] - Beam prediction in temporal domain:

[0062] ■ NG-RAN node can predict the L1 quality of set A beams in the future based on historical L1 measurement result of set B beams. Wherein the set B beams can be a subset of set A beams or a different set than set A beams.

[0063] - radio resource management (RRM) measurement prediction in temporal domain:

[0064] ■ NG-RAN node can predict the L3 cell / beam quality of a serving cell based on the historical L1 / L3 measurement result of the same serving cell.

[0065] - RRM measurement prediction in spatial domain:

[0066] ■ predict the L3 measurement result for set A cell / beam using L1 / L3 measurement result of set B cell / beam at the same time instance (set A can be different set as set B, or a superset of set B) , wherein set A cell / beam and set B cell / beam are of the same frequency. The associated cells could be collocated.

[0067] - RRM measurement prediction in frequency domain:

[0068] ■ predict the L3 measurement result for set A cell / beam using L1 / L3 measurement result of set B cell / beam at the same time instance (set A can be different set as set B, or a superset of set B) , wherein set A cell / beam and set B cell / beam are of different frequencies.

[0069] - RRM event prediction:

[0070] ■ Predict if any of the RRM event (e.g., A1 / A2…A5 event, recovery link failure (RLF) ) in the future.

[0071] - line of sight (LOS)  / non-line of sight (NLOS) estimation:

[0072] ■ In AI / ML assisted gNB assisted positioning, gNB may use AI / ML model to estimate if the path between UE and gNB is NLOS or LOS.

[0073] Herein, a UE sided AI / ML functionality may be represented as a certain UE feature or UE feature group or a certain set of RRC configuration (e.g., CSI reporting configuration) . Regarding "set A beam" or "set A cell / beam" or the like, it is a set of beam to be predicted or a set of cell / beam to be predicted. Regarding "set B beam" or "set B cell / beam" or the like, it is a set of beam to be measured or a set of cell / beam to be measured

[0074] To pursue the application of AI / ML based air interface use cases, e.g., one or more of the above illustrated uses cases will be continuous during UE mobility, various aspects of the present disclosure support the determination of AI functionality or model applicability at candidate target cells (belong to the same RAN node or different RAN nodes) before handover execution. Accordingly, AI functionalities or models applicable in the target cell (one of the candidate target cells) could be activated during the handover procedure.

[0075] Figure 2 illustrates an example of applicability information related to AI provision procedure in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure.

[0076] Referring to Figure 2, it is assumed that a UE (only as an example, not a specific one) supports AI functionalities #A, #B and #C (may be AI models in other implementations) , and have trained the relevant AI models under cells #1-6. Initially, the UE is connected to cell #1, which belongs to or under a RAN node, e.g., gNB #1, which will be the source gNB during the handover procedure. Cells #2 and #3 also belong to gNB #1, while cells #4, #5  and #6 belong to another RAN node, e.g., gNB #2, which is a candidate target gNB for the UE.

[0077] Herein, the candidate target cells, e.g., cells #2-#6 and candidate target RAN nodes, e.g., gNB #2 refer to the cells or RAN nodes to which the UE is possibly handed over in the future, including but not limited to conditional handover cases. Meanwhile, for simplification and clarity, herein, only one candidate target RAN node is illustrated in the case of inter-RAN node handover, which is assumed to be the target RAN node to which the UE is finally handed over. Persons skilled in the art would well understand that there may be more candidate target RAN nodes, and each will perform the same or similar operations as the illustrated one, including interactions with the source RAN node and UE.

[0078] Considering the case of inter-RAN node handover (or inter RAN handover or the like) , in step 201, the candidate target RAN node, e.g., gNB #2 may determine the information related to interested UE sided AI functionalities or models. The interested UE sided AI functionalities or models are expected to (or may) be used after the UE is handed over to a corresponding cell under the target NE. Since each UE sided AI functionality or model is associated with a cell, the information related to the interested UE sided AI functionalities or models explicitly or implicitly indicates the cells interested (or considered or the like) by the candidate target RAN node. There are various manners or formats to indicate the information related to the interested UE sided AI functionalities or models.

[0079] For example, in some implementations of the present disclosure, the information related to the interested UE sided AI functionalities or models may indicate the interested UE sided AI functionalities or models per cell (e.g., represented by a cell ID, e.g., next generation-cell global identifier (NG-CGI) ) and per UE sided AI functionality or model (e.g., using a bitstring or bitmap wherein each bit of the bitstring or each position of the bitmap represents one AI / ML functionality or model) .

[0080] In some other implementations of the present disclosure, the information related to the interested UE sided AI functionalities or models may indicate the interested UE sided AI functionalities or models per area (e.g., represented by an area ID, wherein an area is mapped to a list of cells) and per UE sided AI functionality or model (e.g., using a bitstring  or bitmap wherein each bit of the bitstring or each position of the bitmap represents one AI / ML functionality or model) .

[0081] In some yet other implementations of the present disclosure, the information related to the interested UE sided AI functionalities or models may indicate the interested UE sided AI functionalities or models per UE sided AI functionality or model (e.g., indicating that the interested UE sided AI / ML functionalities or models are identical or common for all cells or areas under the target gNB) , or per cell (e.g., indicating that all UE sided AI functionalities or models in the cell are interested by the candidate target RAN node) , or per area (e.g., indicating that all UE sided AI functionalities or models in the certain area are interested by the candidate target RAN node) .

[0082] In some yet other implementations of the present disclosure, the information related to the interested UE sided AI functionalities or models may indicate the interested UE sided AI functionalities or models by a combination of multiple formats, e.g., a combination of per UE sided AI functionality or model, per cell, and per area etc.

[0083] Since a list of cells (one or more cells) may be mapped to an area, vice versa, information based on cell (s) and information based on area (s) may only differ in granularity, e.g., in a cell level or an area level. The technical solution illustrated based on cell level can also be applicable in area level. Herein, for simplification and clarity, the illustrated implementation are mainly based on cell level, but should not be unduly limited to the cell level.

[0084] It is assumed that gNB #2 is interested in or considering configuring the UE sided AI functionalities #A and #B in cell #4 and cell #5. That means that gNB #2 may configure and activate UE sided AI functionality #A and / or #B for the UE if the UE is connected to cell #4 or #5. gNB #2 is not interested in configuring UE sided AI functionality #C in any cell, and is not interested in configuring any UE side AI functionality or model in cell #6. Accordingly, the information related to the interested UE sided AI functionalities or models indicated to gNB #1 by gNB #2 may indicate: functionalities #A and #B in cell #4 in the form of per cell and per AI functionality.

[0085] In step 203, the candidate target RAN node, e.g., gNB #2 may send the information related to the interested UE sided AI functionalities or models to the source RAN node, e.g., gNB #1 over Xn interface. For example, the candidate target RAN node may transfer the information related to the interested UE sided AI / ML functionalities or models to the source RAN node using a Xn NG-RAN node configuration update message or the like. For another example, the candidate target RAN node may transfer the information related to the interested UE sided AI / ML functionalities or models to the source RAN node using a Xn data collection update message or the like, which is based on a previous request from the source RAN node during a data collection reporting initiation procedure or the like.

[0086] At step 205, the source RAN node may configure the UE to report applicability information related to AI (hereinafter, applicability information) associated with UE sided AI functionalities or models in one or multiple cells (or areas, which will be mapped to one or more cells) . The source RAN node may determine the report configuration of applicability information (hereinafter, report configuration) considering the case of inter-RAN node handover, intra-RAN node handover or a combination thereof. The report configuration may configure or indicate the UE sided AI functionalities or models in the one or multiple cells whose AI related applicability information is requested in a way identical or similar to the information related to the interested UE sided AI functionalities or models received from the candidate target RAN node. For example, the report configuration may configure or indicate the UE sided AI functionalities or models in one or multiple cells in one or multiple of the following formats: per cell and per UE sided AI functionality or model; per cell list and per UE sided AI functionality or model; per area ID and per UE sided AI functionality or model, wherein an area is mapped to a list of cells; per UE sided AI functionality or model; per cell; per cell list; or per area.

[0087] When the case of inter-RAN node handover is considered, the source RAN node may determine the report configuration at least based on the information related to the interested UE sided AI functionalities or models received from the candidate target RAN node. For example, based on the received information related to the interested UE sided AI functionalities or models, the source RAN node may further determine the candidate target cells for handover based on UE’s measurement report. The source RAN node may configure  the UE to report the applicability information associated with the determined candidate target cells. For each candidate target cell, the source RAN node may configure the UE to report the applicability information for all UE sided AI / ML functionalities in UE side or only for part of AI / ML functionalities or models in UE side, e.g., interested or considered by the source RAN node or candidate target RAN node.

[0088] When the case of intra-RAN node handover is considered, the source RAN node may also determine the interested UE sided AI functionalities or models in interested cells and / or areas similar to that determined by the candidate target RAN node in the case of inter-RAN node handover, and then determine the report configuration at least based on the determined interested UE sided AI functionalities or models in interested cells and / or areas.

[0089] In some implementations of the present disclosure, the report configuration may indicate only a part to be changed based on a previous report configuration, e.g., in a ToAddModList or ToReleaseList manner or the like, so that the changes of cells or areas or UE sided AI functionalities or models associated with applicability information reporting will be indicated. For example, the changed part compared with the previous report configuration may add, modify or remove a cell or area associated with applicability information reporting; or add, modify or remove UE sided AI functionalities or models associated with applicability information reporting.

[0090] It is assumed that based on the information related to the interested UE sided AI functionalities or models received from gNB #2 and the UE measurement results, in step 205, gNB #1 may decide and configure the UE to report applicability information of AI functionalities #A and #B associated with cell #1 (current serving cell) , cell #2 (a candidate target cell belonging to gNB #1) , and cell #4 (a candidate target cell belonging to gNB #2) . An exemplary report configuration may indicate information as follows:

[0091] Functionality #A, #B, #C in cell #1:

[0092] Functionality #A, #B, #C in cell #2; and

[0093] Functionality #A, #B in cell #4.

[0094] The source RAN node may send the report configuration to the UE in step 207, e.g., via a RRC reconfiguration message, and accordingly the UE may receive the report configuration.

[0095] Based on the report configuration, the UE may determine whether there is applicability information needed to be reported in step 209, which may be associated with part or all of the UE sided AI functionalities or models in the one or multiple cells indicated in the report configuration. If there is applicability information needed to be reported, the UE may send it to the source RAN node in step 211, e.g., using UE assistance information (UAI) message or using a RRC reconfiguration complete message etc. For example, if the UE is configured to report the applicability information in response to that certain event (s) , e.g., upon RRM A3 and / or A5 event is satisfied and the cell will likely be the target cell for handover, the UE may use UE assistance information to report the applicability information related to the target cell.

[0096] The UE may report the applicability information for the requested UE sided AI functionalities or models per cell or per area to the source gNB. The reported applicability information may include applicable parameters and / or conditions for generating inference configuration for AI functionality or model. The inference configuration may be a RRC configuration generated by the network to configure the UE to perform AI inference, e.g., as part of channel state information (CSI) report configuration. The same parameter, condition and / or inference configuration may be applied in one or multiple cells, e.g., cells mapped to the same area. Exemplary parameters for generating inference configurations may be set A related information, set B related information and time etc. Exemplary set A related information may be the number of beams in set A, and the distance or periodicity of SS / PBCH block (SSB) and / or CSI-reference signal (RS) etc. Exemplary set B related information may be the number of beams in set B, the type of SSB or CSI-RS, the distance or periodicity of SSB and / or CSI-RS, and mapping information from set B beams to set A beams etc. Exemplary conditions for generating inference configurations may be related to the network deployment, and may be referred to as network conditions or network side conditions, e.g., antenna tilting angle and height etc., which may be represented by an associated ID.

[0097] For example, the reported applicability information may include one or multiple of the following: information on a set of beams to be predicted, e.g., set A related information; information on a set of beams to be measured, e.g., set B related information; report content  related information, e.g., predicted beam ID or predicted reference signal received power (RSRP) ; time instances related information for predictions related to temporal domain beam prediction, e.g., the number or periodicity of prediction; time instances related information for measurements related to temporal domain beam prediction, e.g., the number or periodicity of measurement; network side conditions, which may be represented by an associated ID; or validity area information, e.g., the applicability information is the same for cells within the area.

[0098] UE may report the applicability information (if any) as configured, which may be periodic or aperiodic, e.g., event-triggered. In some cases, if the applicability information associated with a related cell or area has changed since the last report for the same cell or area, the UE may trigger or initiate an applicability information reporting to report the changed applicability information, e.g., via UAI. In some other cases, if the source RAN node configures the UE to report the applicability information associated with a new cell or area that has not been reported before, UE may trigger or initiate an applicability information reporting, e.g., via UAI.

[0099] If no applicability information needs to be reported, it means that the UE sided AI functionality or model is not applicable when the UE is in the given cell or area. Accordingly, the UE may not send any related information to the source RAN node, or send an explicit indicator to the source RAN node, indicating that the UE sided AI functionality is not applicable when UE is in the given cell or area.

[0100] Herein, it is assumed that the UE sends the applicability information associated with AI functionality #A and #B in cell #1, #2 and #4 as configured to gNB #1, e.g., via UAI in step 211.

[0101] In accordance with some aspects of the present disclosure, the report configuration may further include candidate or possible parameters, or conditions or inference configurations associated with the UE sided AI functionalities or models in one or more cells indicated in the report configuration. For example, the report configuration may indicate one or multiple of the following: candidate parameters that can be used to generate an inference configuration in part or all of the one or multiple cells or an area associated with the one or multiple cells; candidate conditions that can be used to generate an inference  configuration in part or all of the one or multiple cells or an area associated with the one or multiple cells; or candidate inference configurations for AI functionalities or models in part or all of the one or multiple cells or an area associated with the one or multiple cells.

[0102] Considering the case of inter-RAN node handover, the candidate target RAN node, e.g., gNB#2 may also provide the candidate parameters, or candidate conditions or candidate inference configurations associated with the interested UE sided AI functionalities or models for the source RAN node. For example, the information related to the interested UE sided AI functionalities or models provided by the candidate target RAN node may also include one or more of: candidate parameters that can be used to generate an inference configuration in one or multiple cells or an area under the candidate target RAN node; candidate conditions that can be used to generate an inference configuration in one or multiple cells or an area under the candidate target RAN node; or candidate inference configurations for interested UE sided AI functionalities or models in one or multiple cells or an area under the candidate target RAN node. Considering the case of intra-RAN node handover, the source RAN node may determine the candidate parameters, or candidate conditions or candidate inference configurations associated with the interested UE sided AI functionalities or models for candidate target cells by itself.

[0103] In the case that the report configuration indicates the candidate parameters, or conditions or inference configurations associated with the indicated UE sided AI functionalities or models, the UE may report the parameters among the candidate parameters that are applicable for UE sided AI functionalities or models in corresponding cells (if any) ; conditions among the candidate conditions that are applicable for UE sided AI functionalities or models in corresponding cells (if any) ; and / or inference configurations among the candidate inference configurations that are applicable for UE sided AI functionalities or models in corresponding cells (if any) .

[0104] Considering the case of inter-RAN node handover, when the source RAN node, e.g., gNB #1 triggers a handover for the UE to a target cell belonging to the target RAN node, e.g., gNB #2, if the received applicability information is at least related to UE sided AI functionalities or models in the target cell, the source RAN node may send to the target RAN node, the applicability information associated with the UE sided AI functionalities or models  in the target cell, e.g., in a handover request Xn message in step 213. In some cases, the source RAN node may also send the applicability information associated with other UE sided AI functionalities or model reported from the UE to the target RAN node.

[0105] The target RAN node may configure and activate the corresponding UE sided AI functionalities or models applicable in the target cell in a handover command based on the received applicability information in step 215. For example, it is assumed that gNB #1 decides to handover the UE to cell #4 belonging to gNB #2. In the handover request message, gNB #1 may indicate the applicability information received from the UE in step 215, which at least includes the applicability information about UE sided AI functionality #A and #B for cell #4. Then, gNB #2 may generate the handover command, including a RRC reconfiguration message for UE which configures and activates the UE sided AI functionality #A after the UE connects to cell #4.

[0106] The target RAN node may also use the applicability information received from the source RAN node, including the applicability information associated with UE sided AI functionalities or models in the target cell or other cells (if any) in the future handover. For example, if the UE is further handed over to a next hop cell or RAN node, the target RAN node may transfer part or all of the received applicability information to a next hop cell or RAN node.

[0107] On the other hand, if the source RAN node triggers a handover to a target cell also under the source RAN node and the received applicability information is at least associated with UE sided AI functionalities or models in the target cell, the source RAN node may configure and activate the UE sided AI functionalities or models in the target cell in a handover command based on the received applicability information in step 217. For example, it is assumed that gNB #1 decides to handover the UE to cell #2 also belonging to gNB #1. Then, gNB #1 will configure and activate UE sided AI functionality #A for cell #2 in a handover command.

[0108] Figure 3 illustrates an example of a UE 300 in accordance with aspects of the present disclosure. The UE 300 may include a processor 302, a memory 304, a controller 306, and a transceiver 308. The processor 302, the memory 304, the controller 306, or the transceiver 308, or various combinations thereof or various components thereof may be  examples of means for performing various aspects of the present disclosure as described herein. These components may be coupled (e.g., operatively, communicatively, functionally, electronically, electrically) via one or more interfaces.
