Description

Vehicle front structure

[0001] The present invention relates to a vehicle front structure.

[0002] Vehicles such as passenger cars need to efficiently absorb collision loads by deforming the front of the vehicle during a head-on collision or an offset collision, thereby protecting a driver at the front of the cabin. Patent Document 1 discloses a conventionally known vehicle front structure including a pair of front side members that are vehicle frame members extending in the fore-and-aft direction of the vehicle, a pair of under members that are vehicle frame members extending in the fore-and-aft direction of the vehicle below the pair of front side members, a bumper reinforcement that connects front ends of the pair of front side members, and a lower cross that connects front ends of the pair of under members.

[0003] In Patent Document 1, when a vehicle collides head-on, the collision load received by the bumper reinforcement and lower cross members extending in the vehicle width direction is transmitted to the rear of the vehicle via a pair of front side members and a pair of under members on both sides of the vehicle width direction. The front side members and under members, which are arranged side by side above and below, are connected via a driving motor, thereby increasing the transmittable collision load.

[0004] Japanese Patent Application Publication No. 2019-202616

[0005] In recent years, in the event of an offset collision, it has become necessary to uniformly deform the colliding side of the vehicle and prevent excessive deformation of the collided object. In the above-mentioned Patent Document 1, when a vehicle collides with an object, deformation of the front part of the vehicle is suppressed to protect the driver, but since uniform deformation of the object is not taken into consideration, there is a problem that the part of the object that comes into contact with the bumper reinforcement and the lower cross section is significantly deformed.

[0006] The present invention has been made in consideration of the above circumstances, and aims to provide a vehicle front structure that can suppress deformation of an object that comes into contact with the front of the vehicle in the event of a head-on collision by evenly deforming the object.

[0007] The above object of the present invention is achieved by the following configuration: [1] A vehicle front structure comprising: a dash cross member provided at the front of the vehicle and extending in the vehicle width direction, a bumper beam disposed below the dash cross member and extending in the vehicle width direction, and a connecting member having a hollow portion with a space formed therein, extending in the vertical direction, and connecting the dash cross member and the bumper beam.

[0008] According to the present invention, when a vehicle collides head-on, deformation of the collision object that comes into contact with the front of the vehicle can be suppressed by uniformly deforming the collision object.

Furthermore, the left-right direction and the vehicle width direction are synonymous, and the front-rear direction and the vehicle direction are synonymous.

[0012] Fig. 1 is a front perspective view of a vehicle body having a vehicle front structure. Fig. 2 is a front view of a main portion of the vehicle front structure. Fig. 3 is a side view of a main portion of the vehicle front structure. A vehicle 100 is provided with front side members 10 extending in the fore-and-aft direction on both sides in the vehicle width direction as front frame members. The front side members 10 connect a floor portion 21 of a cabin 20 and support the floor portion 21 from below on both sides in the vehicle width direction.

[0013] The cabin 20 has a frame structure that forms a passenger space. The cabin 20 has a floor section 21 where a driver's seat and rear seats (not shown) are provided, a ceiling section 22, a pair of front pillars 23 that extend in the vertical direction to connect the front end of the floor section 21 with the front end of the ceiling section 22, and a rear pillar 25 that extends in the vertical direction to connect the rear end of the floor section 21 with the rear end of the ceiling section 22. This configuration can be seen in FIG. 1 .

[0014] (Vehicle Front Structure) The vehicle front structure 30 at the front of the vehicle 100 includes a pair of front side members 10, a pair of front pillars 23, a dash cross member 31, a panel hood 32, a front center panel 33, a center panel extension 34, a closing plate 35, a bumper beam unit 40, and a bumper beam support 50. This configuration can be seen in FIG. 4 .

[0015] A dash panel 26 extending in the left-right direction and projecting forward is provided below the pair of front pillars 23. This configuration can be seen in Figures 2 and 9. An in-vehicle equipment installation section 27 is provided on the right side of the lower part of the dash panel 26 for arranging in-vehicle equipment such as pedal operating tools (not shown).

[0016] The dash cross member 31 is attached to the front of the dash panel 26, positioned at the front of the vehicle, and extends in the left-right direction. The dash cross member 31 is a member extending in the left-right direction and is composed of a plate-shaped rear dash cross member 31B attached to the front end of the dash panel 26, and a front dash cross member 31A formed with a hat-shaped cross section, extending in the left-right direction along the front surface of the rear dash cross member 31B. For details of this configuration, see Figure 1 and Figure 7 (described later). The front dash cross member 31A is formed so that the forward protrusion amount due to its cross section gradually increases from both the left and right sides toward the center. For details of this configuration, see Figure 4.

[0017] The panel hood 32 is a plate-like member extending in the left-right and front-rear directions and covers the upper part of the dash panel 26, which protrudes forward from the front pillars 23. The front center panel 33 is a plate-like member extending in the left-right and front-rear directions and connects the front end of the panel hood 32 to the upper end of the dash cross member 31. The center panel extension 34 is a plate-like member that slopes rearward from both left and right ends of the front center panel 33 toward the left and right outer sides. The closing plate 35 is a plate-like member that is arranged to close the spaces formed on the left and right outer sides of the center panel extension 34, and is attached and fixed to the upper surface of the rear dash cross member 31B by having its lower portion bent forward.

[0018] The bumper beam unit 40 includes a bumper beam 41 extending in the left-right direction below the dash cross member 31. The bumper beam unit 40 is connected to the front pillar 23 via the bumper beam unit 41 and the front side member 10.

[0019] (Bumper beam unit 40) Figure 4 is an exploded perspective view of the front part of the vehicle with the bumper beam unit removed. Figure 5 is a rear perspective view showing the bumper beam unit. Figure 6 is an exploded perspective view of the bumper beam unit. Figure 7 is a cross-sectional view taken along line A-A in Figure 2. Figure 8 is a cross-sectional view taken along line B-B in Figure 2. The bumper beam unit 40 has a bumper beam 41, a pair of connecting members 42 that connect the bumper beam 41 to the dash cross member 31, a pedestrian bar 43 provided below the bumper beam 41, and a pair of connecting members 44 that connect the pedestrian bar 43 to the bumper beam 41.

[0020] By attaching the bumper beam unit 40 to the dash cross member 31, a front opening 45 is formed in the front of the vehicle, surrounded by the dash cross member 31, the bumper beam 41, and the pair of connecting members 42. Cooling air can be introduced into the front of the vehicle from the front of the vehicle through the front opening 45. This configuration can be seen in Figures 4 and 5.

[0021] The bumper beam 41 is a plate-shaped member that extends in the left-right direction along the dash cross member 31. In this embodiment, the left-right length of the bumper beam 41 is slightly shorter than that of the dash cross member 31. The bumper beam 41 has protruding portions 41a that protrude forward along the left-right direction. The rear surfaces of both left and right ends of the bumper beam 41 are connected to the front ends of a pair of front side members 10. As a result, the collision load received by the bumper beam 41 is transmitted rearward along the sturdy front side members 10.

[0022] A bumper reinforcement 46, which is a plate-like member formed along the bumper beam 41, is attached to the rear surface of the bumper beam 41. In this embodiment, the bumper reinforcement 46 has approximately the same vertical width as the bumper beam 41, and is formed slightly shorter than the bumper beam 41 in the left-right direction. In addition, the bumper reinforcement 46 protrudes forward, forming a protruding portion 46a that is slightly smaller in the vertical and left-right directions than the protruding portion 41a of the bumper beam 41. As a result, the protruding portion 46a of the bumper reinforcement 46 is positioned inside the protruding portion 41a of the bumper beam 41.

[0023] The connecting members 42 are plate-like members extending in the vertical direction, with their lower ends attached and fixed to the upper left and right ends of the bumper beam 41 and their upper ends attached and fixed to the vertical centers of the left and right ends of the dash cross member 31. The pair of connecting members 42 are inclined upwardly away from each other. Therefore, the front opening 45 is formed so that its width increases in the horizontal direction as it extends upward. In addition, the connecting member 42 on one of the left and right (right) sides is arranged to cover the front of the in-vehicle equipment installation section 27 below the dash panel 26. This configuration can be seen in Figures 2 and 4.

[0024] The connecting member 42 has a front connecting member 42A that forms the front side, a rear connecting member 42B that forms the rear side, and a hollow portion 47 with an internal space. The rear connecting member 42B has a hat-shaped cross section that protrudes rearward, thereby forming flange portions 42B1 on the left and right edges and the bottom end. The flange portions 42B1 are welded to the periphery of the front connecting member 42A. This forms a hollow portion 47 that extends vertically in the connecting member 42. An opening 47a is formed at the upper end of the hollow portion 47, opening the upper end of the connecting member 42. Meanwhile, a closed portion 47b is formed at the lower end of the hollow portion 47, and the front connecting member 42A and the rear connecting member 42B are in close contact with each other, closing the lower end of the connecting member 42. This configuration can be seen in FIGS. 5 to 7. As described above, the rear connecting member 42B has flanges 42B1 formed on the left and right edges extending in the vertical direction and the lower end, which are welded to the peripheral edge of the front connecting member 42A excluding the upper end.

[0025] The connecting member 42 may be configured such that the front connecting member 42A has a hat-shaped cross section, thereby forming the hollow portion 47. The hollow portion 47 may also be configured such that a closed portion 47b is formed at the upper end and an open portion 47a is formed at the lower end. Furthermore, the hollow portion 47 may be cylindrical with the open portions 47a at the upper and lower ends, or may be box-shaped with the closed portions 47b at the upper and lower ends.

[0026] The lower ends of the connecting members 42, namely the entire lower end of the front connecting member 42A and the entire lower end of the rear connecting member 42B, are welded (fixed) to the upper ends of the left and right ends of the bumper beam 41 by triple spot welding. This allows the lower ends of the connecting members 42 to be firmly fixed to the bumper beam 41. The upper ends of the connecting members 42, namely the upper ends of the rear connecting members 42B, are welded to both left and right ends of the front of the dash cross member 31. This means that the front of the connecting members 42 and the center of the dash cross member 31, whose center in the left-right direction protrudes forward, are positioned approximately on the same plane.

[0027] The pedestrian bar 43 is a rod-shaped member that extends in the left-right direction along the bumper beam 41. In this embodiment, the length of the pedestrian bar 43 in the left-right direction is slightly shorter than that of the bumper beam 41. The pedestrian bar 43 is formed by bending a plate-shaped member that extends in the left-right direction into a U-shape that is open at the bottom.

[0028] The connecting members 44 are plate-like members extending in the vertical direction, with both left and right ends each bent rearward in an L-shape. The pair of connecting members 44 have their lower ends attached and fixed to the upper left and right ends of the pedestrian bar 43 by welding or the like, and their front upper ends attached and fixed to the lower left and right ends of the rear surface of the bumper reinforcement 46 by welding or the like. In other words, the pedestrian bar 43 is attached and fixed to the bumper beam 41 via the connecting members 44 and the bumper reinforcement 46.

[0029] (Bumper beam support portion 50) Next, the bumper beam support portion 50 will be specifically described with reference to Figures 3, 4, 9 to 11. Figure 9 is a perspective view of the main part showing the interior side of the front part of the cabin. Figure 10 is a cross-sectional view taken along CC in Figure 3. Figure 11 is a cross-sectional view taken along DD in Figure 3.

[0030] The bumper beam support portion 50 is a connecting member that connects the left and right ends of the dash cross member 31 to the front pillar 23, and has an upper frame 51 that extends in the fore-and-aft direction, and a front inner lower 52 that is a plate-shaped member that separates the upper side of the upper frame 51.

[0031] The upper frame 51 is a plate-like member that extends in the front-rear direction and has a hat-shaped cross section that is open on the inside in the left-right direction, and has flanges 51a that extend vertically in the front-rear direction. The pair of upper and lower flanges 51a are fixed to the front inner lower section 52, so that the upper frame 51 forms a frame with a rectangular cross section with closed inside in the left and right directions. This configuration can be seen in Figures 10 and 11.

[0032] The front end of the upper frame 51 is connected to the rear surfaces of the left and right ends of the dash cross member 31. The rear end of the upper frame 51 is connected to the lower end of the front pillar 23. The rear end of the upper frame 51 is provided with a flange-shaped first fixing piece 51b that is attached and fixed to the front surface of the rectangular pillar-shaped front pillar 23, and a second fixing piece 51c that extends rearward from the rear end of the upper frame 51 and is attached and fixed to the outer side surface of the rectangular pillar-shaped front pillar 23. A plurality of beads 51d extending in the vertical direction are formed in the midpoint of the fore-and-aft direction of the upper frame 51. The beads 51d enable control of the deformation position of the upper frame 51 in the event of a vehicle collision. This configuration can be seen in FIG. 4.

[0033] The front inner lower section 52 is a plate-like member extending in the front-rear and up-down directions, with its lower portion connected to the left and right inner flange portions 51a of the upper frame 51, its rear end connected to the front pillar 23, and its front end connected to the dash cross member 31 (rear dash cross member 31B) and the closing plate 35. In other words, the front inner lower section 52 is provided to close a space that penetrates in the left-right direction and is surrounded by the upper frame 51, the front pillar 23, the panel hood 32, the dash cross member 31, and the closing plate 35. This configuration can be seen in FIGS. 3 and 4.

[0034] 9 , box-shaped strut panels 53, which house struts (not shown), are provided on the inner lateral sides (interior space) of the pair of left and right front inner lower sections 52. The outer lateral sides of the strut panels 53 are connected to the front inner lower sections 52, and a reinforcement strut 54 that reinforces the strut panels 53 is attached and fixed to the upper surface. The front ends of the strut panels 53 are connected to the left and right ends of the rear part of the dash cross member 31 (rear dash cross member 31B) via wheelhouse front panels 55 formed along the front wheels (not shown).

[0035] (Effects) With the above-described bumper beam unit 40, as shown in FIGS. 1 to 3 , the front center portion of the dash cross member 31, the front surface of the connecting member 42 (front connecting member 42A), and the protruding portion 41a on the front surface of the bumper beam 41 are arranged on approximately the same plane at the front end of the vehicle. This increases the contact area between the front of the vehicle and the object in a head-on or offset collision (hereinafter simply referred to as a collision). This allows the object to deform more uniformly, thereby reducing the overall deformation of the object. In other words, this embodiment can reduce the deformation of the object while also reducing the deformation of the vehicle front structure 30. Furthermore, the front surfaces of the pedestrian bar 43 and the connecting member 44 may be arranged in approximately the same plane as the front center of the dash cross member 31, the front surface of the connecting member 42 (front connecting member 42A), and the protruding portion 41a on the front surface of the bumper beam 41, thereby further increasing the contact area when colliding with an object to be hit.

[0036] The hollow portion 47, which forms a space extending in the up-down direction along the connecting member 42, functions as an impact absorbing member by deforming (crushing) under a collision load. The hollow portion 47 has an opening 47a at its upper end and a closed portion 47b at its lower end, which can guide the direction in which the hollow portion 47 deforms (crushes). This ensures that the hollow portion 47 is crushed reliably during a vehicle collision, allowing the collision load to be absorbed smoothly and reliably.

[0037] 2 and 4, the on-board equipment installation sections 27 are provided at the bottom of the dash panel 26 behind the right and left connecting members 42 (at positions facing each other in the longitudinal direction). As a result, in the event of a vehicle collision, the connecting members 42 having the hollow sections 47 can efficiently prevent the on-board equipment installation sections 27 and operating tools (not shown) provided on the on-board equipment installation sections 27 from entering the cabin. Note that on-board equipment other than operating tools may be mounted behind the connecting members 42.

[0038] The bumper beam unit 40 has a pedestrian bar 43 disposed below the bumper beam 41 via a pair of connecting members 44, thereby extending the area where the front of the vehicle comes into contact with a collision object further downward, thereby making it possible to maximize the contact area between the front of the vehicle and a pedestrian.

[0039] The bumper beam support portion 50 described above allows the collision load input to the dash cross member 31 due to a vehicle collision to be dispersed to various members and transmitted rearward via the upper frames 51 provided on both the left and right ends of the dash cross member 31. This allows the vehicle front structure 30 to efficiently absorb the collision load, thereby suppressing deformation of the cabin 20.

[0040] The collision load transmission configuration of the bumper beam support portion 50 will be specifically described. The collision load input to the dash cross member 31 is transmitted to the upper frame 51. The collision load transmitted to the upper frame 51 is distributed and transmitted to the front inner lower section 52 and the front pillar 23. The collision load transmitted to the front inner lower section 52 is distributed and transmitted to the strong strut panels 53 fixed to the inside left and right sides of the front inner lower section 52 so as to overlap each other, the reinforcement struts 54, and the wheelhouse front panel 55. The collision load transmitted to the strut panels 53 is also distributed and transmitted to the dash panel 26 and the floor portion 21. The upper portion of the upper frame 51 may be connected to the closing plate 35 to increase the number of members that distribute the collision load.

[0041] According to the above-described configuration, the vehicle front structure 30 transmits a collision load input to the dash cross member 31 while distributing the load to the upper frame 51 and multiple members connected to the upper frame 51, and transmits a collision load input to the bumper beam 41 to the front side member 10. Therefore, the vehicle front structure 30 deforms efficiently when the vehicle is involved in a head-on collision, thereby suppressing deformation of the cabin 20.

[0042] Furthermore, a pair of left and right strut panels 53 arranged in the vehicle interior space are connected via a pair of front inner lowers 52, a pair of wheelhouse front panels 55, and the dash cross member 31. This improves the torsional rigidity of the pair of strut panels 53 to which a suspension (not shown) is attached, thereby improving stability when the vehicle is cornering.

[0043] The present invention is not limited to the above-described embodiment, and modifications and improvements can be made as appropriate.

[0044] As described above, this specification discloses the following: (1) A vehicle front structure comprising: a dash cross member provided at the front of a vehicle and extending in the vehicle width direction; a bumper beam disposed below the dash cross member and extending in the vehicle width direction; and a connecting member having a hollow portion with a space formed therein, extending in the vertical direction, and connecting the dash cross member and the bumper beam. With this configuration, in the event of a vehicle collision, the dash cross member, the bumper beam, and the connecting member can increase the contact area with the impact object, thereby evenly deforming the impact object that comes into contact with the front of the vehicle. Furthermore, the impact load can be absorbed by collapsing the hollow portion provided in the connecting member, thereby more efficiently suppressing deformation of the impact object.

[0045] (2) The vehicle front structure according to (1), wherein the connecting member includes a front connecting member and a rear connecting member disposed rearward of the front connecting member, at least one of the front connecting member and the rear connecting member has a hat-shaped cross section, and the hollow portion is formed by connecting the front connecting member and the rear connecting member. With this configuration, the hollow portion can be formed easily and at low cost.

[0046] (3) The vehicle front structure according to (1) or (2), wherein an opening is formed at one end of the hollow portion in the vertical direction, and a closed portion is formed at the other end of the hollow portion in the vertical direction. With this configuration, the direction in which the hollow portion collapses can be guided, so that when the vehicle collides, the hollow portion can be reliably collapsed to absorb the collision load.

[0047] (4) The vehicle front structure according to any one of (1) to (3), wherein a pair of the connecting members are provided on both left and right ends of the dash cross member and the bumper beam, and the pair of connecting members are inclined upward or downward in a direction separating from each other in the vehicle width direction. This configuration makes it possible to increase the contact area between the connecting member and a collision object while widening the cooling opening.

[0048] (5) The vehicle front structure according to any one of (1) to (4), wherein a front surface of the connecting member is substantially flush with a front surface of at least one of the dash cross member and the bumper beam. With this configuration, when the vehicle collides, the object of collision is more likely to deform evenly.

[0049] (6) The vehicle front structure according to any one of (1) to (4), wherein a front surface of the connecting member is substantially flush with front surfaces of the dash cross member and the bumper beam. With this configuration, when the vehicle collides, the object of collision is more likely to deform more uniformly.

[0050] (7) The vehicle front structure according to any one of (1) to (6), further comprising a pedestrian bar extending in the vehicle width direction below the bumper beam. With this configuration, when the vehicle collides, the area of contact between the front of the vehicle and an object struck can be increased, making it easier for the object to deform more evenly.

[0051] (8) The vehicle front structure according to (7), further comprising a connecting member that connects the bumper beam and the pedestrian bar. With this configuration, when the vehicle collides, the area of contact between the front of the vehicle and the object of collision can be increased, making it easier to more uniformly deform the object of collision.

[0052] (9) The vehicle front structure according to any one of (1) to (8), wherein an on-board device is provided in front of the feet of an occupant seated in a cabin installed behind the dash cross member, and the connecting member is positioned opposite the on-board device in the fore-and-aft direction of the vehicle. According to this configuration, the connecting member positioned in front of the on-board device makes it less likely that the on-board device located at the feet of the occupant will interfere with the interior space of the vehicle during a vehicle collision.
