Abstract
Description
NOVEL HIGH BIOMASS CONTENT AQUEOUS DISPERSION AS BARRIER COATINGFIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The present invention relates to the field of barrier coatings. In particular, the present invention relates to combinations of different chemicals or materials, which can be used as barrier coatings for substrates.BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0002] In the preparation and production of barrier coatings, compared with currently widely used fossil-based materials, biomass materials have the advantages of being simple and easy to obtain, less toxic or even non-toxic, and environmentally friendly, thus they have attracted widespread attention from scientists.
[0003] In the process of developing barrier coatings based on biomass materials, it is an important challenge in this field to achieve excellent barrier effect and meanwhile contain high biomass content. Currently, in some published patent documents, biodegradable biomass materials such as cellulose and polyhydroxyalkanoate are widely used in the field to develop novel biomass-based barrier coatings. However, these materials also have inherent defects. For example, cellulose has good hydrophilicity and poor water-resistance, due to the presence of a large number of hydroxyl groups in its structure. Since polyhydroxyalkanoate has poor water solubility, a large amount of organic solvents and high application temperatures (i.e., melt extrusion) need to be applied in relevant applications thereof. It does not comply with the concepts of green chemistry and sustainable development pursued in chemical production. Therefore, there is huge margin for improvement in the related production processes.
[0004] In addition, currently in this field, materials with different barrier properties are separately applied through coating machines or extruders as multiple layers on the substrate (for example, first coating or extruding a layer of nanocellulose on the substrate, and after drying, then coating or extruding a layer of PLA or other chemicals) , and by increasing the coating or extrusion amount in each layer to improve the overall barrier properties. Such a strategy can effectively fill the pores of the substrate, thereby improving the barrier effect, and circumvent the technical difficulty of finding chemicals capable of being compatible with various formulations. However, the defects are as follows: the consumption of raw materials is large and the coating operation is very complicated, or the inapplicability of coating process so as to use only the more energy and money consuming extrusion process.
[0005] It can be seen that there are still obvious defects in the prior art in this field. Therefore, it becomes a key development direction in this field to develop novel biomass-based barrier materials, to find chemicals capable of being compatible with various formulations in the absence of organic solvent and heating, to improve the barrier effect, and to make the preparation process more environmentally friendly.SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0075] General protocols for coating the barrier material on a substrate: coat the aqueous dispersion on the substrate by a coater to obtain a substrate coated with the aqueous dispersion, then place the substrate coated with the aqueous dispersion into a hot oven to dry it at a drying temperature of 105-180℃. After coating and drying, the substrate is placed in a constant temperature and humidity laboratory overnight, and then the performance is evaluated.

[0086] Comparative Example 1
[0087] According to the composition of Table 1, a composition with a biomass content of 94.6 wt%was prepared, in which the solid content accounted for 27.7 wt%of the composition. [0088] Table 1 The added amounts of ingredients in the samples of Examples 1-5 and Comparative Example 1
[0089] The above Examples were subjected to various tests to characterize their properties. The specific results are shown in the Test below.
[0090] Test 1
[0091] The barrier properties against water or oil, and the heat sealing property of the samples of Examples 1-5 were tested, and the results are shown in Table 2.
[0092] Table 2 Test of the barrier properties and heat sealing performance of the samples of Examples 1-5
[0093] Table 2 shows that the five samples of Examples 1-5 can all achieve coatable properties when the biomass content is about 93%or even greater than 95%. Moreover, the resulting coating exhibits excellent water-resistance, oil-resistance and heat-sealing properties without requiring a higher coating weight. Moreover, the technical solution of the present invention can also achieve improved adhesiveness, which can be supported by the fact that the coated coating is not easy to exfoliate from the surface of the substrate. Moreover, good heat sealing strength can also support the improved adhesiveness. In contrast, the composition of Comparative Example 1 cannot be prepared as a stable dispersion, so that it is not coatable. Therefore, the technical solution of the present invention can achieve excellent technical effects of the present invention.
