Abstract

Provided is a fishing reel capable of more appropriately exhibiting an auxiliary (assist) function for spool rotation by means of a motor by accurately and assuredly detecting a rotational torque generated on an operation unit and accordingly controlling an output torque from the motor. A fishing reel according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises: a spool capable of winding a fishing line therearound; an operation unit for rotationally operating the spool; a motor for rotationally driving the spool; a motive power transmission unit for transmitting, to the spool, a rotational torque inputted from the operation unit; a drag mechanism for enabling the relative rotation between the motive power transmission unit and the spool when tension having at least prescribed magnitude is generated on the fishing line wound around the spool; a rotational torque detection unit for detecting the rotational torque of the operation unit having performed thereon rotational operation; and a control unit that drives the motor on the basis of the rotational torque detected by the rotational torque detection unit. A torque merging point, at which the rotational torque inputted from the operation unit and the rotational torque inputted from the motor merge, is configured to be disposed at the drag mechanism or upstream, from the drag mechanism, on the operation unit side, and the rotational torque detection unit is configured to be provided upstream, from the torque merging point, on the operation unit side.
