Description

MOTOR DRIVETECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present disclosure relates to the technical field of power electronics, and in particular, relates to a motor drive.BACKGROUND

[0002] A motor drive refers to a device used to control speed, torque, and position of a motor, including a variable-frequency drive and a servo drive.

[0003] The variable-frequency drive is a power control device for motors, which employs the variable frequency technology and microelectronics technology to control the motors by changing the power frequency of the motors.

[0004] The servo drive, also known as a servo controller or servo amplifier, is a controller used to control servo motors, which is functionally similar to a variable-frequency drive in controlling ordinary AC motors, and is part of a servo system. The servo drive is mainly used in a high-precision positioning system. The servo drive usually controls a servo motor by position, speed, and torque, to achieve high-precision positioning of a transmission system.

[0005] Nowadays, the demands for motor drives with high protection ratings are constantly increasing to cope with harsh application environments, such as motor drives with a protection rating of IP55.

[0006] The protection rating of IP55 means that a motor drive should have high protective performance, and be capable of preventing solid objects such as dust from intruding and resisting sprayed liquids to a certain extent. This means a sealed structure needs to be desired for the motor drive. However, in the sealed structure, capacitors, control chips, and other components inside the motor drive, which previously reply on natural convection for heat dissipation, may suffer from poor heat dissipation and overheating.

[0007] In addition, in cold regions, extremely low ambient temperatures in winter may cause  the motor drive to fail to start.SUMMARY

[0008] The present disclosure is intended to provide a motor drive that can prevent overheating of internal components and enable startup in low-temperature environments.

[0009] Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a motor drive. The motor drive includes a housing and a semiconductor cooler. An internal space of the housing is configured to accommodate components of the motor drive. The semiconductor cooler is disposed in the housing and includes a first output terminal and a second output terminal. When a forward current is applied to the semiconductor cooler, the second output terminal serves as a hot end, and the first output terminal serves as a cold end. Conversely, when a reverse current is applied to the semiconductor cooler, the second output terminal serves as a cold end, and the first output terminal serves as a hot end. The first output terminal is configured to output cold energy or heat to the internal space of the housing, and the second output terminal is configured to output cold energy or heat to an external space of the housing.

[0010] By mounting a semiconductor cooler within the housing of the motor drive, the present invention addresses two key issues. When a forward current is applied to the semiconductor cooler, the first output terminal serves as a cold end to output cold energy to the internal space of the housing, thereby addressing the issue of overheating of components due to poor heat dissipation within the internal space. Conversely, when a reverse current is applied to the semiconductor cooler, the first output terminal serves as a hot end, addressing the problem of the motor drive being unable to start in low-temperature environments.

[0011] In some exemplary embodiments, the motor drive further includes a first heat dissipation component and a second heat dissipation component. The first heat dissipation component is thermally conductively connected to the first output terminal. The second heat dissipation component is thermally conductively connected to the second output terminal. A channel communicating the internal space with the external space is arranged in the housing. The channel is disposed within a tubular portion protruding outward from an outer wall of the housing and extends along a mounting direction. The first heat dissipation component, the first output terminal, the second output terminal, and the second heat dissipation component are  successively arranged along the mounting direction. The first heat dissipation component and the semiconductor cooler are inserted into the channel, and the second heat dissipation component is disposed outside the channel and seals an opening of the channel. By arranging a channel in the housing, it is convenient to seal the housing and also facilitate the mounting of the semiconductor cooler, the first heat dissipation component and the second heat dissipation component. Additionally, it helps to improve the diffusion speed of heat.

[0012] In some exemplary embodiments, the second heat dissipation component includes a base plate with an area larger than the opening of the channel. The base plate covers and seals the opening of the channel. This arrangement facilitates sealing the channel and helps to improve the heat diffusion speed.

[0013] In some exemplary embodiments, the motor drive further includes a first fan and a second fan. The first fan is fixedly connected to one end, distant from the semiconductor cooler along the mounting direction, of the first heat dissipation component, and is configured to increase a gas flow velocity on a surface of the first heat dissipation component. The second fan is fixedly connected to one end, distant from the semiconductor cooler along the mounting direction, of the second heat dissipation component, and is configured to increase a gas flow velocity on a surface of the second heat dissipation component. This arrangement facilitates improving the heat diffusion speed.

[0014] In some exemplary embodiments, the motor drive further includes a temperature measurement module, a current control module, and a data processing module. The temperature measurement module is configured to detect an actual temperature value within the housing. The current control module is connected to the semiconductor cooler to control a current input to the semiconductor cooler. The data processing module is communicably connected to the temperature measurement module and the current control module. The data processing module is configured to compare preset temperature data with the actual temperature value, and send a command signal for applying a forward current or a reverse current or applying no current to the current control module based on a result of the comparison. This arrangement facilitates the automatic adjustment of temperature.

[0015] In some exemplary embodiments, the preset temperature data is represented as a preset temperature value, and the data processing module is configured to: determine whether the  actual temperature value is higher than the preset temperature value. The data processing module sends a command signal for applying a forward current to the current control module in response to determining that the actual temperature value is higher than the preset temperature value, while the data processing module sends a command signal for applying a reverse current to the current control module in response to determining that the actual temperature value is lower than the preset temperature value. This allows for accurate control of the actual temperature value within the housing.

[0016] In some exemplary embodiments, the preset temperature data is represented as a preset temperature range, and the data processing module is configured to:

[0017] determine whether the actual temperature value is higher than a minimum value within the preset temperature range, and send a command signal for applying a reverse current to the current control module in response to determining that the actual temperature value is not higher than the minimum value within the preset temperature range; and

[0018] determine whether the actual temperature value is higher than a maximum value within the preset temperature range in response to determining that the actual temperature value is higher than the minimum value within the preset temperature range, and send a command signal for applying no current to the current control module in response to determining that the actual temperature value is not higher than the maximum value within the preset temperature range, or send a command signal for applying a forward current to the current control module in response to determining that the actual temperature value is higher than the maximum value within the preset temperature range. In this way, power is supplied to the semiconductor cooler only when the actual temperature value exceeds the preset temperature range, which helps to reduce energy consumption.

[0019] In some exemplary embodiments, the motor drive further includes a heat dissipation base. The heat dissipation base is attached to an outer surface of the housing for contact-based thermal conduction, thereby increasing the rate of heat diffusion.

[0020] In some exemplary embodiments, the motor drive further includes a third fan. The third fan is disposed on a side of the heat dissipation base and is configured to increase a gas flow velocity on a surface of the heat dissipation base. This arrangement further helps to improve the rate of heat diffusion.

[0021] In some exemplary embodiments, the motor drive is a variable-frequency drive or a servo drive.BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0044] In this text, the terms "first, " "second, " "third, " and the like do not represent degrees of importance or a sequence, but only for differentiation, and for ease of description.

[0045] For brevity, parts relevant to the present disclosure are merely illustrated in the drawings, and these parts do not denote the actual structure of the product.

[0046] FIG. 1 is a schematic structural diagram of a motor drive according to an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure. Referring to FIG. 1, the motor drive may be, for example, a variable-frequency drive or a servo drive. As shown in FIG. 1, the motor drive includes a housing 10 and a temperature adjustment assembly for adjusting a temperature within an internal space A of the housing 10. FIG. 2 separately shows the temperature adjustment assembly. As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the temperature adjustment assembly includes a semiconductor cooler 20. The internal space A of the housing 10 is configured to accommodate components of the motor drive.

[0047] The semiconductor cooler 20 is disposed in the housing 10 and includes a first output terminal 21 and a second output terminal 22. When a forward current is applied to the semiconductor cooler 20, the second output terminal 22 serves as a hot end, and the first output terminal 21 serves as a cold end. When a reverse current is applied to the semiconductor cooler 20, the second output terminal 22 serves as the cold end, and the first output terminal 21 serves as the hot end. The first output terminal 21 is configured to output cold energy or heat to the internal space of the housing 10, and the second output terminal 22 is configured to output cold energy or heat to an external space of the housing 10.

[0048] The semiconductor cooler is an application of the Peltier effect, which was discovered by Jean Peltier, a French physicist, in 1834 as a thermoelectric phenomenon. When current flows through a circuit composed of different conductors, in addition to irreversible Joule  heat, heat absorption or heat release also occurs at the junctions of different conductors. The Peltier effect is reversible, and thus when the direction of the current changes, heat absorption is transformed into heat release.

[0049] To meet the protection rating of IP55, the housing 10 of the motor drive is, for example, sealed to prevent dust, rainwater or the like from entering the internal space of the housing 10. In an exemplary embodiment, a channel 12 communicating the internal space with the external space is arranged in the housing 10, and the temperature adjustment assembly including the semiconductor cooler 20 is disposed in the channel 12. A person skilled in the art can seal the housing 10 by filling a flexible sealing material in gaps between the temperature adjustment assembly and the channel 12. However, a person skilled in the art may design the housing using other structural forms and adopt corresponding means to seal the housing.

[0050] The motor drive is equipped with a semiconductor cooler in the housing. When a forward current is applied to the semiconductor cooler, the first output terminal serves as a cold end to output cold energy to the internal space of the housing to address the problem of component overheating due to poor heat dissipation in the internal space. When a reverse current is applied to the semiconductor cooler, the first output terminal serves as a hot end to address the problem that the motor drive fails to be started due to low ambient temperature.

[0051] In an exemplary embodiment, as shown in FIG. 2, the motor drive further includes a first heat dissipation component 31 and a second heat dissipation component 32. The first heat dissipation component 31 and the second heat dissipation component 32 also serve as part of the temperature adjustment assembly. The first heat dissipation component 31 is thermally conductively connected to the first output terminal 21. The second heat dissipation component 32 is thermally conductively connected to the second output terminal 22. The channel 12 extends along a mounting direction L and is disposed within a tubular portion protruding outward from an outer wall of the housing 10. The first heat dissipation component 31, the first output terminal 21, the second output terminal 22, and the second heat dissipation component 32 are successively arranged along a mounting direction L. The first heat dissipation component 31 and the semiconductor cooler 20 are inserted into the channel 12, and the second heat dissipation component 32 is disposed outside the channel 12 and seals an opening of the channel 12.

[0052] The second heat dissipation component 32 includes a base plate with an area larger  than the opening of the channel 12. The base plate covers and seals the opening of the channel 12. The first heat dissipation component 31 and / or the second heat dissipation component 32 is provided with heat dissipation fins extending along the mounting direction L. By arranging a channel in the housing, it is convenient to seal the housing, mount the semiconductor cooler, the first heat dissipation component, and the second heat dissipation component, and improve the heat diffusion speed.

[0053] In the exemplary embodiment, the motor drive further includes a first fan 41 and a second fan 42. The first fan 41 and the second fan 42 also serve as part of the temperature adjustment assembly. The first fan 41 is fixedly connected to an end, distant from the semiconductor cooler 20 along the mounting direction L, of the first heat dissipation component, and is configured to increase a gas flow velocity on a surface of the first heat dissipation component. The second fan 42 is fixedly connected to an end, distant from the semiconductor cooler 20 along the mounting direction L, of the second heat dissipation component 32, and is configured to increase a gas flow velocity on a surface of the second heat dissipation component 32. This helps to improve the heat diffusion speed.

[0054] In the exemplary embodiment, the motor drive further includes a heat dissipation base 80 and a third fan 90. The heat dissipation base 80 is attached to an outer surface of the housing 10 for contact-based thermal conduction, and is provided with, for example, fins to increase the air contact area. The third fan 90 is disposed on a side of the heat dissipation base 80 along the mounting direction L and is configured to increase a gas flow velocity on a surface of the heat dissipation base 80. This helps to further improve the heat diffusion speed.

[0055] In the exemplary embodiment, the motor drive further includes a temperature measurement module 50, a current control module 60, and a data processing module 70. The temperature measurement module 50, for example, is a sampling circuit including a thermosensitive element mounted in the internal space A of the housing 10 to timely and accurately obtain the actual temperature value within the internal space A. The current control module 60 is connected to the semiconductor cooler 20 to control a current input to the semiconductor cooler 20. The data processing module 70 is communicably connected to the temperature measurement module 50 and the current control module 60. The data processing module 70 is configured to compare a preset temperature data with the actual temperature value  and send a command signal for applying a forward current or a reverse current or applying no current to the current control module 60 based on a result of the comparison.

[0056] In the exemplary embodiment, the preset temperature data is, for example, a preset temperature value (i.e., a point value) . The data processing module 70 is configured to determine whether the actual temperature value is higher than the preset temperature value. The data processing module 70 sends a command signal for applying a forward current to the current control module 60 in response to determining that the actual temperature value is higher than the preset temperature value. The data processing module 70 sends a command signal for applying a reverse current to the current control module 60 in response to determining that the actual temperature value is not higher than the preset temperature value. This facilitates accurate control of the actual temperature value within the internal space of the housing.

[0057] In practical work, operators expect the motor drive to operate at a preset temperature value. The data processing module receives the input preset temperature value and the actual temperature value fed back by the temperature measurement module. The data processing module sends a command signal for applying a forward current to the current control module in response to determining that the actual temperature value is higher than the preset temperature value. The current control module applies a forward current to the semiconductor cooler, such that the first output terminal serves as a cold end and the second output terminal serves as a hot end. Cold air circulation is formed within the internal space of the housing by the first heat dissipation component and the first fan, while hot air circulation is formed outside the housing by the second heat dissipation component and the second fan until the actual temperature value within the internal space of the housing reaches the preset temperature value.

[0058] The data processing module sends a command signal for applying a reverse current to the current control module in response to determining that the actual temperature value is lower than the preset temperature value. The current control module applies a reverse current to the semiconductor cooler, such that the first output terminal serves as a hot end and the second output terminal serves as a cold end. Hot air circulation is formed within the internal space of the housing by the first heat dissipation component and the first fan, while cold air circulation is formed outside the housing by the second heat dissipation component and the second fan, until the actual temperature value within the internal space of the housing reaches the preset  temperature value.

[0059] It should be noted that the temperature measurement module has its own temperature measurement cycle, for example, measuring the temperature 25 times a minute. The temperature measurement module feeds back the measured temperature to the data processing module. In response to determining that there is a difference between the actual temperature value and the preset temperature value, the data processing module sends a command signal for applying a forward current or a reverse current to the current control module, and activates the semiconductor cooler to maintain the actual temperature value within the internal space of the housing at the preset temperature value.

[0060] In other exemplary embodiments, the preset temperature data may be a preset temperature range (i.e., a numerical range) . The data processing module 70 is configured to:

[0061] determine whether the actual temperature value is higher than a minimum value within the preset temperature range, and send a command signal for applying a reverse current to the current control module 60 in response to determining that the actual temperature value is not higher than the minimum value within the preset temperature range; and

[0062] determine whether the actual temperature value is higher than a maximum value within the preset temperature range in response to determining that the actual temperature value is higher than the minimum value within the preset temperature range, and send a command signal for applying no current to the current control module 60 in response to determining that the actual temperature value is higher than the minimum value within the preset temperature range, or send a command signal for applying a forward current to the current control module 60 in response to determining the actual temperature value is higher than a maximum value within the preset temperature range. In this way, power is supplied to the semiconductor cooler only when the actual temperature value exceeds the preset temperature range, which helps reduce energy consumption.

[0063] In practical work, the preset temperature range is a temperature range for normal startup and operation of the motor drive. However, in cold regions, the ambient temperature may be lower than the minimum value within the preset temperature range, and consequently the motor drive fails to start normally. Operators input the preset temperature range into the data processing module, and the data processing module receives the input preset temperature range  and the actual temperature value fed back by the temperature measurement module. In response to determining that the actual temperature value is lower than the minimum value within the preset temperature range, the data processing module sends a command signal for applying a reverse current to the current control module. The current control module applies a reverse current to the semiconductor cooler, such that the first output terminal serves as a hot end and the second output terminal serves as a cold end. Hot air circulation is formed within the internal space of the housing by the first heat dissipation component and the first fan, while cold air circulation is formed outside the housing by the second heat dissipation component and the second fan, until the actual temperature value within the internal space of the housing exceeds the minimum value within the preset temperature range.

[0064] The data processing module compares the actual temperature value with the maximum value within the preset temperature range in response to determining that the actual temperature value is higher than the minimum value within the preset temperature range. The data processing module sends a command signal for applying no current to the current control module in response to determining that the actual temperature is not higher than the maximum value within the preset temperature range, such that the semiconductor cooler remains inactive. The data processing module sends a command signal for applying a forward current to the current control module to provide a forward current in response to determining that the actual temperature value is higher than the maximum value within the preset temperature range. The current control module applies a forward current to the semiconductor cooler, such that the first output terminal serves as cold end and the second output terminal serves as hot end. Cold air circulation is formed within the internal space of the housing by the first heat dissipation component and the first fan, while hot air circulation is formed outside the housing by the second heat dissipation component and the second fan, until the actual temperature value within the internal space of the housing falls below the maximum value within the preset temperature range.

[0065] It should be noted that the temperature measurement module feeds back the actual temperature value to the data processing module according to its temperature measurement cycle. In response to determining that the actual temperature value is not within the preset temperature range, the data processing module immediately sends a command signal for applying a forward  current or a reverse current to the current control module, and activates the semiconductor cooler and ensures that the actual temperature value within the internal space of the housing remains within the preset temperature range. This approach avoids the problem of overheating internal components of the motor drive and ensures that the motor drive starts in low-temperature environments.

[0066] In an exemplary embodiment, various parts of the temperature control assembly, namely, the semiconductor cooler 20, the first heat dissipation component 31, the second heat dissipation component 32, the first fan 41, and the second fan 42, are fixedly connected as a whole. The temperature control assembly may be mounted to or detached from the housing 10 as a whole, thereby facilitating mounting and maintenance.

[0067] It should be understood that, although the present disclosure is described with reference to some exemplary embodiments, none of the embodiments is intended to disclose an independent technical solution. Such description manner of the specification is only for clarity. A person skilled in the art should consider the specification as an entirety. The technical solutions according to the embodiments may also be suitably combined to derive other embodiments that may be understood by a person skilled in the art.

[0068] A series of detailed descriptions given in this specification are merely intended to illustrate exemplary and possible embodiments of the present disclosure, instead of limiting the protection scope of the present disclosure. Any equivalent embodiments or modifications, for example, combinations, segmentations, or repetition of features, derived without departing from the spirit of the present disclosure shall fall within the protection scope of the present disclosure.
