Description

EVENT TRIGGERED REPORTINGTECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] This document is directed generally to digital wireless communications.BACKGROUND

[0002] Mobile telecommunication technologies are moving the world toward an increasingly connected and networked society. In comparison with the existing wireless networks, next generation systems and wireless communication techniques will need to support a much wider range of use-case characteristics and provide a more complex and sophisticated range of access requirements and flexibilities.

[0003] Long-Term Evolution (LTE) is a standard for wireless communication for mobile devices and data terminals developed by 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) . LTE Advanced (LTE-A) is a wireless communication standard that enhances the LTE standard. The 5th generation of wireless system, known as 5G, advances the LTE and LTE-Awireless standards and is committed to supporting higher data-rates, large number of connections, ultra-low latency, high reliability and other emerging business needs.SUMMARY

[0004] Techniques are disclosed for event triggered reporting.

[0005] An example wireless communication method includes transmitting, by a communication device, a report in response to an event being satisfied or having occurred according to a rule, where the event is satisfied or occurs by comparing a value of a characteristic of a beam or a cell to a threshold.

[0006] In some embodiments, the event is satisfied or occurs in response to: the value of the characteristic of a beam of a serving cell being better than a threshold, the value of the characteristic of a beam of a serving cell being worse than a threshold, the value of the characteristic of a beam of a candidate cell being better than a threshold, the value of the characteristic of a beam of a candidate cell being worse than a threshold, the value of the characteristic of a beam of a candidate cell being an offset better than the value of the characteristic of a beam of a serving cell, the value of the characteristics of a beam of a candidate cell being an offset worse than the value of the characteristic of a beam of a serving cell, the  value of the characteristic of a beam of a serving cell being worse than a first threshold and the value of the characteristic of a beam of candidate cell is better than a second threshold, the value of the characteristic of a beam of a candidate cell being offset better than the value of the characteristic of an activated beam of a candidate cell, the value of the characteristic of a serving cell being better than a threshold, the value of the characteristic of a serving cell being worse than a threshold, the value of the characteristic of a candidate cell being better than a threshold, the value of the characteristic of a candidate cell being worse than a threshold, the value of the characteristic of a candidate cell being offset better than the value of the characteristic of a serving cell, the value of the characteristic of a candidate cell being an offset worse than the value of the characteristic of a serving cell, or the value of the characteristic of a serving cell being worse than a first threshold and the value of the characteristic of a candidate cell is better than the second threshold.

[0007] In some embodiments, the rule indicates that the event is satisfied or occurs in response to the event occurring once. In some embodiments, the rule indicates that the event is satisfied or occurs in response to a number of times of occurrence of the event being greater than or equal to a threshold. In some embodiments, the rule indicates that the event is satisfied or occurs in response to a number of times of occurrence of the event within a time period being greater than or equal to a threshold, and the time period includes a time duration, a time window, a first duration corresponding to a timer, or a second duration corresponding to a time-to-trigger.

[0008] In some embodiments, the rule indicates that the event is satisfied or occurs in response to the event being satisfied or having occurred on the beam or on a beam pair. In some embodiments, the rule indicates that the event is satisfied or occurs in response to a number of times of occurrence of the event on the beam or on a beam pair being greater than or equal to a threshold. In some embodiments, the rule indicates that the event is satisfied or occurs in response to a number of times of occurrence of the event on the beam or on a beam pair within a time period is greater than or equal to a threshold, the time period includes a time duration, a first duration corresponding to a timer, or a second duration corresponding to a time-to-trigger. In some embodiments, a counter is increased by a value in response to the event being satisfied or having occurred.

[0009] In some embodiments, a counter is suspended or not increased by a value in response to the event not being satisfied or not occurring. In some embodiments, a counter is reset in  response to a value of the counter being greater than or equal to a threshold. In some embodiments, a counter is increased by a value or another counter is started or the another counter is increased by the value in response to the event being satisfied based on the updated beam or the new beam. In some embodiments, the report includes one or more of the following: a measurement result, an indication, timing advance (TA) information, channel state information (CSI) , or a handover command.

[0010] In yet another exemplary aspect, the above-described methods are embodied in the form of processor-executable code and stored in a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium. The code included in the computer readable storage medium when executed by a processor, causes the processor to implement the methods described in this patent document.

[0011] In yet another exemplary embodiment, a device that is configured or operable to perform the above-described methods is disclosed.

[0012] The above and other aspects and their implementations are described in greater detail in the drawings, the descriptions, and the claims.

[0038] FIG. 23 shows an exemplary flowchart for transmitting a report.DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0039] In current technology, periodic, semi-persistent and aperiodic channel state information (CSI) reporting are supported. For periodic CSI reporting, user equipment (UE) can periodically report measurement result (s) . For semi-persistent CSI reporting, UE can periodically report measurement result (s) after receiving a media access control-control element (MAC CE) signaling or downlink control information (DCI) signaling on semi-persistent CSI reporting. For aperiodic CSI reporting, UE can only report measurement result (s) after receiving a DCI signaling triggering an aperiodic CSI reporting. These types of CSI reporting are driven or controlled by the network (NW) or base station (e.g., gNB) and also can result in some  unnecessary reporting overhead and delay and a waste of resource. In order to alleviate the issues mentioned above, this patent document describes techniques for event-triggered reporting or UE-initiated reporting based on L1 measurement, such as for condition to report L1 event-triggered reporting and reported contents.

[0040] The example headings for the various sections below are used to facilitate the understanding of the disclosed subject matter and do not limit the scope of the claimed subject matter in any way. Accordingly, one or more features of one example section can be combined with one or more features of another example section. Furthermore, 5G terminology is used for the sake of clarity of explanation, but the techniques disclosed in the present document are not limited to 5G technology only, and may be used in wireless systems that implemented other protocols.

[0041] I. Introduction

[0042] Event-triggered reporting has been introduced in Layer 3 handover, wherein UE evaluates a event for triggering measurement reporting and event is defined based on Layer 3 measurement results. But such event-triggered reporting is not supported by Layer 1 measurement for L1 / L2 Triggered Mobility (LTM) and / or Beam Management procedure.

[0043] In legacy beam management procedures, the network may configure / activate frequent periodic or semi-persistent beam reporting (e.g., N best beams and corresponding L1-RSRPs) or triggers frequent aperiodic beam reporting to timely acquire the best / preferred beam for data / control transmissions. However, this clearly results in large UL reporting overhead and control signaling overhead. At the same time, if less frequent beam reporting is configured, the network could not always acquire the ‘best / preferred’ beam (s) as the beam reporting by the UE may be outdated, thus leading to performance degradation. Given that UE has better and more-timely knowledge of beam quality changes, UE-initiated beam reporting procedure can lead to more timely beam reports yet with reduced reporting overhead. Under such a procedure, if the UE determines that e.g., current beam (s) quality becomes poor, UE can trigger beam reporting without the network needing to configure or trigger frequent reporting.

[0044] II. Technical Solutions

[0045] In the patent document, event can be beam based event or cell based event. In some examples, event can be defined or configured as beam based event, or cell based event, or L1 based event, or L3 based event.

[0046] In the patent document, one or more characteristics may include or be configured as, for example, RSSI, RSRP, SINR, RSRQ. In some examples, RSSI or RSRP or SINR or RSRQ can be derived or measured from one or more reference signals (RS) . In some examples, one RS can be regarded as or corresponds to a beam. In some examples, one or more RSs are associated with one cell. In some examples, characteristic can be replaced with “quantity” .

[0047] In the patent document, at least one of the following events can be considered:

[0048] ● Event#1: Value (s) of a characteristic (s) of a beam of serving cell becomes better (or greater) than a threshold.

[0049] ● Event#2: Value (s) of a characteristic (s) of a beam of serving cell becomes worse (or less than) than a threshold.

[0051] ● Event#4: Value (s) of a characteristic (s) of a beam of candidate cell becomes worse than a threshold.

[0052] ● Event#5: Value (s) of a characteristic (s) of a beam of candidate cell becomes offset better than another value (s) of another characteristic (s) of beam of serving cell.

[0053] ● Event#6: Value (s) of a characteristic (s) of a beam of candidate cell becomes offset worse than another value (s) of another characteristic (s) of beam of serving cell.

[0054] ● Event#7: Value (s) of a characteristic (s) of a beam of serving cell becomes worse than the first threshold and another value (s) of another characteristic (s) of a beam of candidate cell becomes better than the second threshold.

[0055] ● Event#8: Value (s) of a characteristic (s) of a beam of candidate cell becomes offset better than activated beam of candidate cell.

[0056] ● Event#9: Value (s) of a characteristic (s) of a serving cell becomes better than a threshold.

[0057] ● Event#10: Value (s) of a characteristic (s) of a serving cell becomes worse than a threshold.

[0058] ● Event#11: Value (s) of a characteristic (s) of a candidate cell becomes better than a threshold.

[0059] ● Event#12: Value (s) of a characteristic (s) of a candidate cell becomes worse than a threshold.

[0060] ● Event#13: Value (s) of a characteristic (s) of a candidate cell becomes offset better than another value (s) of another characteristic (s) of serving cell.

[0061] ● Event#14: Value (s) of a characteristic (s) of a candidate cell becomes offset worse than another value (s) of another characteristic (s) of serving cell.

[0062] ● Event#15: Value (s) of a characteristic (s) of a serving cell becomes worse than the first threshold and another value (s) of another characteristic (s) of a candidate cell becomes better than the second threshold.

[0063] ● Other event can be covered in current patent document.

[0064] In the patent document, some words can be removed from the definition of event mentioned above, like “Value (s) of a characteristic (s) of ” . or some words (e.g., “Value (s) of a characteristic (s) of ” ) can be replaced with “RSRP or RSRQ or RSSI or SINR” or “RSRP or RSRQ or RSSI or SINR derived from” for the definition of event mentioned above.

[0065] In the patent document, threshold can be an absolute or relative threshold. In some examples, event mentioned above can be used alone or in combination.

[0066] In the patent document, beam mentioned in the patent document can be L1-RSRP or L1-SINR or L1-RSRQ or RSRP or SINR or RSRQ of beam.

[0067] In the patent document, at least one of: a threshold, first threshold, second threshold, offset, RS or RS resource, RS resource set or event or event index can be configured or determined or updated by at least one of: RRC signaling, MAC CE signaling, DCI signaling, pre-configuration, or based on UE capability.

[0068] In this patent document, the term “event instance” can refer to any one or more of the fifteen events listed above. For example, an event instance can be Event #14 where the characteristic (s) of a candidate cell becomes offset worse than serving cell.

[0069] In this patent document, one event instance can be regarded as at least one of: an event is satisfied, or an event is satisfied on a beam or beam pair. In some examples, if an event is a beam of serving cell becomes worse (or less than) than a threshold, the event can be regarded as beam based event or an event on a beam. In some examples, if an event is a beam of candidate cell becomes offset better than a beam of serving cell, the event can be regarded as beam pair based event or an event on a beam pair. Wherein, such understanding is also applied for other event mentioned above.

[0070] In some examples, beam or beam pair or at least one beam of beam pair can be changed or updated or unchanged or not updated in different event instance or each event instance. In some examples, beam can be associated with or from serving cell or candidate cell. In some examples, beam pair includes one beam associated with or from serving cell and one beam associated with or from serving cell, or two beams associated with or from serving cell or candidate cell.

[0071] In the patent document, beam can be regarded as or replaced with “RS” or “RS resource” . In some examples, one or more RSs are associated with a cell or TRP, or one or more RS sets are associated with a cell or TRP. In some examples, cell can be at least one of: serving cell, candidate cell, target cell, non-serving cell.

[0081] In some examples, if one or more conditions to report or start reporting are met (e.g., if a user equipment (UE) determines that a condition of any one of the event instance listed above is satisfied / occurs) , device (e.g., UE) will or can or attempts to transmit reporting content. Details on content of a reporting or information of reporting can be found in the subsequent embodiment (e.g., embodiment 7) .

[0082] In the examples, event can be one of events mentioned in the patent document.

[0083] In some examples, the device will or can or attempts to report a reporting or transmit an information when at least one of the following is considered:

[0084] Situation-1: an event is satisfied or an event occurs.

[0085] In some examples, situation-1 can be replaced with “once an event is satisfied ” or “if an event is satisfied” or “once an event occurs” or “if an event occurs” .

[0086] In some examples, if an event is satisfied or occurs or once an event is satisfied or occurs, the device will or can or attempts to report a reporting or transmit an information.

[0087] Situation-2: the number of times an event satisfied or occurred is greater than or equal to a threshold.

[0088] In some examples, situation-2 can be “the number of times an event is continuously satisfied is greater than or equal to a threshold” , or “the number of times an event is discontinuously satisfied is greater than or equal to a threshold” .

[0226] II. (b) . Embodiment 2

[0227] In the embodiment, we will introduce more details on situation-4. In some examples, situation-4 is satisfied or occurs, which is equivalent to an event being satisfied or occurring on a beam or a beam pair. Optionally, the beam pair includes one beam from serving cell, one beam from candidate cell, or a specific beam from serving cell and another specific beam from candidate cell, or two beams from serving cell or candidate cell or two specific beams from serving cell or candidate cell, or one beam from first TRP or transmission point and another beam from second TRP or transmission point, or two beams from a TRP or transmission point.

[0229] In some examples, if situation-4 or an event on a beam or a beam pair is satisfied or occurs, the device will or can or attempts to report a reporting or transmit an information. In some examples, if situation-4 or an event on a beam or a beam pair is not satisfied or does not occur, the device does not report a reporting or transmit an information, or the device does not report a reporting or transmit an information on the beam or beam pair. In some examples, the beam or beam pair can be same or different at different event instance.

[0230] In some examples, at least one of the following can be considered as situation-4:

[0239] In some examples, for at least one of the above mentioned cases, the device will or can or attempts to report a reporting or transmit an information.

[0240] II. (c) . Embodiment 3

[0241] In the embodiment, we will introduce more details on situation-5.

[0242] In some examples, situation-5 is satisfied or occurs, which is equivalent to or replaced with “the number of event instance is greater than or equal to a threshold” or “the number of event instance on a beam or beam pair is greater than or equal to a threshold” or “the number of event instance being satisfied or occurring is greater than or equal to a threshold” or “the number of event instance being satisfied or occurring on a beam or beam pair is greater than or equal to a threshold” .

[0243] In some examples, situation-5 can be regarded as situation-2 with a beam or a beam pair or extension of situation-2.

[0244] In some examples, if the number of event instance is larger than or equal to a threshold, the device will or can or attempts to report a reporting or transmit an information. In some examples, if the number of event instance is smaller than or equal to a threshold, the device  does not report a reporting or transmit an information, or the device does not report a reporting or transmit an information on the beam.

[0245] In some examples, a counter is introduced or configured. Wherein, the counter can be configured or enabled by at least one of: RRC, MAC CE, DCI signaling, pre-configured or whether an event is satisfied or occurs or based on an event is satisfied or occurs. In some examples, initial value of counter is 0 or 1. In some examples, the counter is used to count the number of event instance. In some examples, if an event is satisfied or occurs, counter is increased by a value. Wherein, the value can be an integer larger than or equal to 0 or 1. In some examples, if the number of event instance or counter value is greater than or equal to a threshold, counter is reset or reset to 0 or 1, or the device will or can or attempts to report a reporting or transmit an information. In some examples, if an event is not satisfied or does not occur, counter is not increased by a value, or counter is suspended. In some examples, if an event is satisfied based on updated or new beam or beam pair, a new counter is started, or a new counter is increased by a value, or, counter can be increased by a value or counter is reset.

[0246] FIG. 4 shows an example scenario of a number of times an event for {beam #i, cell index} or {RS#i, cell index } is continuously satisfied.

[0247] FIG. 5 shows an example scenario of an event for {beam #i, cell index} or {RS#i, cell index } not being satisfied while an event for {beam #j, cell index} or {RS#j, cell index } being satisfied during event instance statistics.

[0248] FIG. 6 shows another example scenario of an event for {beam #i, cell index} or {RS#i, cell index } not being satisfied while an event for {beam #j, cell index} or {RS#j, cell index } being satisfied during event instance statistics.

[0249] FIG. 7 shows an example scenario of an number of times an event for {beam #i, cell index} or {RS#i, cell index } is discontinuously satisfied.

[0250] FIG. 8 shows an example scenario of an event for { {beam #i, beam #j} , {first cell index, second cell index} } or { {beam #i, first cell index} , {beam #j, second cell index} } not being satisfied” , “an event for { {beam #Y, beam #j}  /  {beam #i, beam #k}  /  {beam #Y, beam #k} , {first cell index, second cell index} } or { {beam #Y, first cell index} , {beam #j, second cell index} } or { {beam #i, first cell index} , {beam #k, second cell index} } or { {beam #Y, first cell index} , {beam #k, second cell index} } being satisfied.

[0251] FIG. 9 shows another example scenario of an event for { {beam #i, beam #j} , {first cell index, second cell index} } or { {beam #i, first cell index} , {beam #j, second cell index} } not being satisfied” , “an event for { {beam #Y, beam #j}  /  {beam #i, beam #k}  /  {beam #Y, beam #k} , {first cell index, second cell index} } or { {beam #Y, first cell index} , {beam #j, second cell index} } or { {beam #i, first cell index} , {beam #k, second cell index} } or { {beam #Y, first cell index} , {beam #k, second cell index} } being satisfied.

[0255] In some examples, as shown in FIG. 6, when counter value is smaller than or equal to a threshold, and / or, if an event does not occur or is not satisfied on a beam or for {beam #i, cell index} or {RS#i, cell index } , or if an event does not occur or is not satisfied that beam #i of a cell becomes better or worse than a threshold or L1-RSRP or L1-SINR or L1-RSRQ measured from beam #i of a cell becomes better or worse than a threshold, and / or, if an event occurs or is satisfied on new or another beam or for {beam #j, cell index} or {RS#j, cell index } , or if an event occurs or is satisfied that beam #j of a cell becomes better or worse than a threshold or L1-RSRP or L1-SINR or L1-RSRQ measured from beam #i of a cell becomes better or worse than a threshold, the event instance can be counted and / or a new counter is started and / or a new counter can be increased by 1 or previous counter is suspended or reset or not increased by 1 or counter value keeps unchanged. In some examples, when the device evaluates that an event occurs or is satisfied on a beam or for {beam #i, cell index} or {RS#i, cell index } , or when the device evaluates that an event occurs or is satisfied that beam #i of a cell becomes better or worse than a threshold or L1-RSRP or L1-SINR or L1-RSRQ measured from beam #i of a cell becomes better or worse than a threshold, previous counter or suspended counter is recovered to count, and / or, counter is increased by 1. In some examples, if the number of event instance is larger than or equal to a threshold, the device can report measurement reporting or measurement result or an information. Optionally, beam used for event evaluation is same or different for different event instances.

[0256] In some examples, as shown in FIG. 7, when counter value is smaller than or equal to a threshold, and / or, if an event does not occur or is not satisfied on a beam or for {beam #i, cell index} or {RS#i, cell index } , UE can continue to evaluate next event instance, and / or, counter is not increased by 1 or counter is suspended or counter value keeps unchanged. In some examples, if UE evaluates an event occurs or is satisfied on the beam or for {beam #i, cell index} or {RS#i, cell index } , or If UE evaluates an event occurs or is satisfied that beam #i of a cell becomes better or worse than a threshold or L1-RSRP or L1-SINR or L1-RSRQ measured from beam #i of a cell becomes better or worse than a threshold, counter is recovered to count, and / or, counter is increased by 1. In some examples, in a similar method, until the number of event instance or counter value is greater than or equal to a threshold, the counter is reset, or the device can report measurement reporting or measurement result or an information.

[0279] In some examples, if the number of event instance for a beam pair is greater than or equal to a threshold, the device will or can or attempts to report a reporting or transmit an information.

[0280] In some examples, for each beam pair, the number of event instance is greater than or equal to a first threshold, and / or, the number of beam pair is greater than or equal to or no more than a second threshold, and / or, the number of cell for event evaluation is greater than or equal to or no more than a third threshold, the device will or can or attempts to report a reporting or transmit an information.

[0405] FIG. 21 shows an exemplary block diagram of a hardware platform 2100 that may be a part of a network device (e.g., base station) or a communication device (e.g., a user equipment (UE) ) . The hardware platform 2100 includes at least one processor 2110 and a memory 2105 having instructions stored thereupon. The instructions upon execution by the processor 2110 configure the hardware platform 2100 to perform the operations described in FIGS. 1 to 20 and 22 to 23 and in the various embodiments described in this patent document. The transmitter 2115 transmits or sends information or data to another device. For example, a network device transmitter can send a message to a user equipment. The receiver 2120 receives information or data transmitted or sent by another device. For example, a user equipment can receive a message from a network device.

[0406] The implementations as discussed above will apply to a wireless communication. FIG. 22 shows an example of a wireless communication system (e.g., a 5G or NR cellular network) that includes a base station 2220 and one or more user equipment (UE) 2211, 2212 and 2213. In some embodiments, the UEs access the BS (e.g., the network) using a communication link to the network (sometimes called uplink direction, as depicted by dashed arrows 2231, 2232, 2233) , which then enables subsequent communication (e.g., shown in the direction from the network to the UEs, sometimes called downlink direction, shown by arrows 2241, 2242, 2243) from the BS to the UEs. In some embodiments, the BS send information to the UEs (sometimes called downlink direction, as depicted by arrows 2241, 2242, 2243) , which then enables  subsequent communication (e.g., shown in the direction from the UEs to the BS, sometimes called uplink direction, shown by dashed arrows 2231, 2232, 2233) from the UEs to the BS. The UE may be, for example, a smartphone, a tablet, a mobile computer, a machine to machine (M2M) device, an Internet of Things (IoT) device, and so on.

[0407] FIG. 23 shows an exemplary flowchart for transmitting a report. Operation 2302 includes transmitting, by a communication device, a report in response to an event being satisfied or having occurred according to a rule, where the event is satisfied or occurs by comparing a value of a characteristic of a beam or a cell to a threshold.

[0408] In some embodiments, the event is satisfied or occurs in response to: the value of the characteristic of a beam of a serving cell being better than a threshold, the value of the characteristic of a beam of a serving cell being worse than a threshold, the value of the characteristic of a beam of a candidate cell being better than a threshold, the value of the characteristic of a beam of a candidate cell being worse than a threshold, the value of the characteristic of a beam of a candidate cell being an offset better than the value of the characteristic of a beam of a serving cell, the value of the characteristics of a beam of a candidate cell being an offset worse than the value of the characteristic of a beam of a serving cell, the value of the characteristic of a beam of a serving cell being worse than a first threshold and the value of the characteristic of a beam of candidate cell is better than a second threshold, the value of the characteristic of a beam of a candidate cell being offset better than the value of the characteristic of an activated beam of a candidate cell, the value of the characteristic of a serving cell being better than a threshold, the value of the characteristic of a serving cell being worse than a threshold, the value of the characteristic of a candidate cell being better than a threshold, the value of the characteristic of a candidate cell being worse than a threshold, the value of the characteristic of a candidate cell being offset better than the value of the characteristic of a serving cell, the value of the characteristic of a candidate cell being an offset worse than the value of the characteristic of a serving cell, or the value of the characteristic of a serving cell being worse than a first threshold and the value of the characteristic of a candidate cell is better than the second threshold.

[0409] In some embodiments, the rule indicates that the event is satisfied or occurs in response to the event occurring once.

[0410] In some embodiments, the rule indicates that the event is satisfied or occurs in response to the event being satisfied or having occurred on the beam or on a beam pair.

[0411] In some embodiments, a counter is suspended or not increased by a value in response to the event not being satisfied or not occurring.
