Description

MULTICORE FIBER OPTIC CONNECTORTECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present application relates to the technical field of physical connection of fiber-optic communication, and in particular, to a multicore fiber optic connector.BACKGROUND

[0002] A fiber optic connector is an optical communication device used to connect two sets of optical fibers, so that the optical signals can be continuous, thus establishing a fiber optic path. When the fiber optic connector is produced, the fiber optic cable needs to pass through the inside of the fiber optic connector to accurately connect to a ferrule at the head of the fiber optic connector, and then the fiber optic connector connected to the fiber optic cable is coupled with an external fiber optic connection device (such as a fiber optic box) to achieve communication among optical fibers.

[0003] During the machining of an outdoor fiber optic connector, since a first housing of the existing small-sized fiber optic connector is mostly designed as an integrally formed structure, and an inner diameter of the existing small-sized fiber optic connector is less than a diameter of a fiber optic cable, the fiber optic cable is not easy to pass into the inside of the fiber optic connector. In addition, the assembly process of the fiber optic connector has a high requirement for operators, and the mounting process is cumbersome. Therefore, if the mounting is not in place, the fiber optic connectionprecision of the entire fiber optic connector is reduced, resulting in the loss of optical signals. In addition, the iterative development of the fiber optic connector has also put higher requirements on the compatibility  of the fiber optic connector. The fiber optic connector also needs to be upward compatible to adapt to the previous generation of fiber optic adapters or fiber optic boxes to avoid increasing the cost and causing resource waste.

[0004] Therefore, how to improve the assembly efficiency of the multicore fiber optic connector and ensure the fiber optic connection precision of the fiber optic connectorbecomes a technical issue to be resolved urgently.

[0005] In addition, how to ensure that the fiber optic connector is upwardly compatible to adapt to the previous generation offiber optic adapters or the fiber optic boxes becomes another technical issue to be resolved urgently.SUMMARY

[0006] The present application provides a multicore fiber optic connector, which improves the assembly efficiency of the multicore fiber optic connector, ensures the fiber optic connection precision of the multicore fiber optic connector and improves the adaptability of the multicore fiber optic connector.

[0007] The present application provides a multicore fiber optic connector, which comprises a first housing, a first connection member, a second housing assembly, a ferrule and a second connection member, wherein a cavity configured for a fiber optic cable to pass through is formed in the second housing assembly, the ferrule is disposed in said cavity, one end of the second connection member is connected to an external fiber optic connection device, the first connection member is provided with a mating assembly, and the first connection member is fastened to the first housing and the second housing assembly through the mating assembly, so that the first housing, the first connection member and the second housing assembly are fastened; a limiting platform is provided on an outer side of the first housing, a limiting portion is provided on an inner sidewall of the second connection member, and the limiting portion is mated with the limiting  platform to limit an axial movement of the second connection member on the first housing; and when the second connection member is fastened to the external fiber optic connection device, the first connection member is at least partially sleeved on outer sides of the first housing and the second housing assembly, the second connection member is at least partially sleeved on the outer side of the first housing, and the limiting portion tightly abuts against the limiting platform.

[0008] Compared with the prior art, the above technical solution provided by an embodiment of the present application has the following advantages.

[0009] The multicore fiber optic connector provided by the present application comprises a first housing, a first connection member, a second housing assembly and a second connection member, wherein a cavity configured for a fiber optic cable and a ferrule to pass through is formed in the second housing assembly, and one end of the second connection member is connected to an external fiber optic connection device. The first housing is provided with a mating assembly, and the first connection member is fastened to the first housing and the second housing assembly through the mating assembly, so that the first housing, the first connection member and the second housing assembly are fastened; and a limiting platform is provided on an outer side of the first housing, a limiting portion is provided on the second connection member, and an axial movement between the second connection member and the first housing is limited by the mating between the limiting portion and the limiting platform. This connecting structure can simplify the mounting steps of the multicore fiber optic connector, which is convenient for operators to assemble and mount the fiber optic connector, and ensures the fiber optic connection precision.

[0040] In an embodiment, at least two first connecting portions 110 are  provided, at least two first connecting portions 110 are intermittently arranged at the outer side of the first housing 100 along a circumferential direction, and an intermittent area between at least two first connecting portions 110 forms at least one concave structure. That is, there is a certain intermittent areabetween at least two first connecting portions 110.

[0041] As shown in FIG. 4, the connection protrusion 510 is a convex structure protruding from the inner sidewall of the second connection member 500, and the convex structure is mated and connected with the intermittent area (i.e., the concave structure) between at least two first connecting portions 110. That is, when the second connection member 500 is sleeved on the first housing 100, the convex structure is mated with the intermittent area between at least two first connecting portions 110, and the other portions of the inner sidewall of the second connection member 500 except the convex structure are mated with the first connecting portion 110, so that the second connection member 500 can be smoothly sleeved on the first housing 100. In this manner, the mating between the second connection member 500 and the first housing 100 can be achieved without increasing the outer diameter of the second connection member 500, so that the fiber optic connector is smaller in size. In addition, an inner diameter of the circle formed by the convex structure is also smaller, so that the second connection member 500 is attached to the first housing 100 more tightly. After the second connection member 500 is connected to other external devices, the second connection member 500 does not swing on the first housing 100, so that the fiber optic connection is firmer, and the fiber optic connectionprecision is improved.

[0042] In an embodiment, as shown in FIGs. 2 and 3, at least two connection protrusions 510 and first connecting portions 110 are provided. Preferably, at least two connection protrusions 510 are uniformly distributed on the second connection member 500, and at least two first connecting portions 110 are uniformly distributed on the first housing 100.

[0043] In a specific implementation, at least two connection protrusions 510 are provided. When at least two connection protrusions 510 are provided, two connection protrusions 510 are symmetrically arranged on the inner sidewall of the second connection member 500, and when more than two connection protrusions 510 are provided, the plurality of connection protrusions 510 are uniformly distributed on the inner sidewall of the second connection member 500. Preferably, two connection protrusions 510 are provided.

[0044] At least two first connecting portions 110 are provided. When two first connecting portions 110 are provided, two first connecting portions 110 are symmetrically arranged on the inner sidewall of the first housing 100, and when more than two first connecting portions 110 are provided, the plurality of first connecting portions 110 are uniformly arranged on the inner sidewall of the first housing 100. Preferably, two first connecting portions 110 are provided.

[0045] It can be understood that, preferably, the number of the connection protrusions 510 and the number of the first connecting portions 110 are equal and mated one by one.

[0046] In an embodiment, as shown in FIGs. 2 and 4, a limiting platform 120 is further arranged on the first housing 100, a limiting portion 520 is arranged on an inner sidewall of the second connection member 500, and the limiting portion 520 is mated with the limiting platform 120 to limit an axial movement of the second connection member 500 on the first housing 100. When one end of the second connection member 500 is fastened to the external fiber optic connection device, the second connection member 500 tightly abuts against the first housing 100.

[0047] In a specific implementation, the second connection member 500 is sleeved on the outer side the first housing 100. When the second connection member 500 is fastened to the external fiber optic connection device, the limiting portion 520 in the second connection member 500  abuts against the limiting platform 120, so that the axial movement of the second connection member 500 on the first housing 100 is limited, the second connection member 500 tightly abuts against the first housing 100, and the second connection member 500 is prevented from sliding on the first housing 100. In the actual assembly and use process, the first connection member 200, the second connection member 500 and the first housing 100 may be mounted at a construction site. According to the port type of the external fiber optic connection device, the construction personnel can determine whether the mounting is required. For example, if the port of the external fiber optic connection device is of the first generation, it is necessary to mount the first connection member 200 and the second connection member 500 and connect the first housing 100 on site, so that the compatibility of the previous generation is achieved. The second connection member 500 can be fastened to the external fiber optic connection device, so that the conduction of optical fibers is achieved.

[0048] In a specific implementation, the second connection member 500 and the external fiber optic connection device may be connected by threads. For example, one end of the second connection member 500 close to the external fiber optic connection device may be provided with an internal thread. Of course, it can be understood that an external thread may also be provided at one end of the second connection member 500 close to the external fiber optic connection device.

[0049] In an embodiment, as shown in FIG. 2, a guide groove 130 is axially arranged on the outer side of the first housing 100, and an opening of the guide groove 130 is communicated with an end surface of an end of the first housing 100. In a specific implementation, the opening of the guide groove 130 is communicated with an end surface of the second end 150 of the first housing 100. The guide groove 130 is used to indicate a correct connection direction when the multicore fiber optic connector is connected to the external fiber optic connection device (e.g., a first generation fiber  optic connection device) .

[0050] In the mounting process, the first connection member 200 is at least partially sleeved on the first housing 100, and the axial movement and circumferential rotation between the first connection member 200 and the first housing 100 are limited by the mating between the mating assembly 210 and the first connecting portion 110, that is, the axial movement and circumferential rotation of the first housing 100 are limited. The second connection member 500 is sleeved on the first housing 100, and the mating between the limiting portion 520 and the limiting platform 120 limits the axial movement between the second connection member 500 and the first housing 100 to a certain extent. Meanwhile, after the first connection member 200 is fastened to the first housing 100, the moving path of the second connection member 500 is axially blocked, so that the second connection member 500 can only move on the first housing 100 and cannot be separated from the first housing 100.

[0051] In an embodiment, as shown in FIG. 2, a guiding portion 160 is further arranged on the inner sidewall of the first housing 100, the guiding portion 160 is arranged along an axial direction of the first housing 100, and the guiding portion 160 is used to guide a connection direction between the second housing assembly 300 and the first housing 100 and is mated with a structure on the second housing assembly 300 to limit circumferential rotation between the second housing assembly 300 and the first housing 100.

[0052] In the mounting process, the circumferential rotation between the second housing assembly 300 and the first housing 100 is limited by the guiding portion 160, the mating between the first connecting portion 110 and the first mating portion 211 is used to limit the circumferential rotation between the first connection member 200 and the first housing 100, and finally, the second connecting portion 340 is clamped and mated with the second mating portion 212, so that the axial movement between the first  connection member 200 and the second housing assembly 300 is limited, and further, the axial movement between the second housing assembly 300 and the first housing 100 is limited. This achieves the axial and circumferential limitation among the first housing 100, the first connection member 200 and the second housing assembly 300, ensures the connection stability and the connection precision of the fiber optic connector, and makes the various components in the fiber optic connector more convenient to assemble, which can improve the convenience of the fiber optic connector.

[0053] Referring to FIG. 5, FIG. 5 is a schematic diagram of a structure of a second housing assembly in a multicore fiber optic connector according to an embodiment of the present application. As shown in FIG. 5, the second housing assembly 300 comprises a second inner housing 320 and a first inner housing 310 connected in sequence, and the fiber optic cable passes through the inside of the first inner housing 310 and the second inner housing 320 and is coupled with the ferrule 400. In a specific implementation, acavity is provided inside the first inner housing 310 and the second inner housing 320, and the fiber optic cable passes through the cavity and is coupled with the ferrule 400. After the fiber optic cable is coupled with the ferrule 400, the multicore fiber optic connector is coupled with the external fiber optic connection device, so that the conduction of optical fibers is achieved.

[0054] As shown in FIG. 5, the first inner housing 310 is provided with a third connecting portion 311, and the second inner housing 320 is provided with a third mating portion 321 mated with the third connecting portion 311, so that the first inner housing 310 is fastened to the second inner housing 320. In a specific implementation, the second inner housing 320 is sleeved on one end of the first inner housing 310, and the other end of the first inner housing 310 is fastened to the ferrule 400. In a specific implementation, the first inner housing 310 and the second inner housing  320 can be connected in a clamping manner or in a threaded connection manner.

[0056] In a specific implementation, the third connecting portion 311 is arranged on an outer peripheral side of the first inner housing 310, and may be a protrusion or a groove, for example. It can be understood that when the third connecting portion 311 is a protrusion, the third mating portion 321 is a groove; and when the third connecting portion 311 is a groove, the third mating portion 321 is a protrusion.

[0057] In an embodiment, referring to FIG. 6, FIG. 6 is a schematic diagram of a structure of a first inner housing in a multicore fiber optic connector according to an embodiment of the present application. As shown in FIG. 6, the third connecting portion 311 comprises a buffer structure 3111 and a clamping structure 3112 connected to the buffer structure 3111, wherein the buffer structure 3111 has a connection slope along a connection direction of the second inner housing 320 and the first inner housing 310, and the clamping structure 3112 is a protrusion. In a specific implementation, the buffer structure 3111 may have a slope along a connection direction of the first inner housing 310 and the second inner housing 320 to facilitate  detachment and mounting between the first inner housing 310 and the second inner housing 320. The specific slope direction may refer to the example given in FIG. 6.
