Description

COMPOSITION FOR CONDITIONING KERATIN FIBERSTECHNICAL FIELD

[0001] The present invention relates to a cosmetic composition and use thereof. In particular, the present invention relates to a composition for conditioning keratin fibers. The present invention also relates to a process for conditioning keratin fibers.BACKGROUND ART

[0002] Keratin fibres, notably the hair, have a tendency to lose some of their qualities due to the action of various factors such as for example natural regreasing, sweat, the removal of squamae, pollution or humidity. The visual appearance and the feel of the fibres may be degraded thereby. Regreasing, for example, makes the fibres lank, which then have a tendency to clump together. The hair may then be more difficult to style, and have an unpleasant greasy sheen and / or waxy feel.

[0003] It is common practice to use detergent cosmetic compositions such as shampoos for washing keratin fibres, such as the hair. These compositions are generally applied to the keratin fibres, which are preferably wet, and the foam generated by massaging or rubbing with the hands or a washing mitt makes it possible, after rinsing with water, to remove the diverse types of soiling initially present on the hair.

[0004] In point of fact, consumers are looking for conditioning compositions that have improved cosmetic and conditioning properties.

[0005] However, many formulations on the market cannot form a uniform coating on the hair.

[0006] Some formulations may also not be entirely satisfactory in terms of cosmetic performances, notably softness and smoothness of the hair.

[0007] Thus, there is still a need for products for conditioning keratin fibers, which can coat on the hair uniformly from the root to the end and / or make the hair smooth and / or soft.SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0008] An object of the present invention is thus to develop a composition for conditioning keratin fibers, which can coat on the hair uniformly from the root to the end and / or make the hair smooth and / or soft.

[0009] Thus, according to the first aspect, the present invention provides a composition, preferably for conditioning keratin fibers, comprising:

[0010] a) at least one C-glycoside;

[0011] b) at least one algae extract; and

[0012] c) at least one oil.

[0013] The inventors have found that after application on the hair, the composition according to the present invention gives the hair a good level of care, in particular a uniform coating from the root to the end, and makes the hair smooth and soft.

[0014] According to a second aspect, the present invention provides a process for conditioning keratin fibers comprising applying the composition according to the present invention onto the keratin fibers.

[0015] Other subjects and characteristics, aspects and advantages of the present invention will be set forth in the description that follows, and in part, will be obvious from the description, or may be learned by practice of the present invention.DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0127] Preferably, the composition of the present invention comprises at least one hydroxyalkyl-modified starch.

[0128] As used herein, the term “starch” refers to a base starch. Base starch, as used herein, is intended to include all starches derived from any native source, any of which may be suitable for use herein. A native starch, as used herein, is one as it is found in nature. Also suitable are starches derived from a plant obtained by standard breeding techniques including crossbreeding, translocation, inversion, transformation or any other method of gene or chromosome engineering to include variations thereof. In addition, starches derived from a plant grown from artificial mutations and variations of the above generic starches, which may be produced by known standard methods of mutation breeding, are also suitable herein.

[0129] Typical sources for the starches are cereals, tubers, roots, legumes and fruits. The native source can be waxy varieties of corn (maize) , pea, potato, sweet potato, banana, barley, wheat, rice, oat, sago, amaranth, tapioca (cassava) , arrowroot, canna, and sorghum, as well as low and high amylose varieties thereof.

[0131] As used herein, the term "high amylose" starch is intended to include a starch containing at least about 50%, particularly at least about 70%, and more particularly at least about 80%of amylose by weight.

[0132] The hydroxyalkyl-modified starch is a modified starch, where the hydroxyl group is bound via an alkyl group such as 2 to 10 carbon atoms in the alkyl group, the position of the hydroxyl group is not critical and can be in the alpha to omega position. The hydroxyalkyl-modified starch can also contain more than one hydroxyl group per alkyl group. In some suitable embodiments, the degree of substitution of the hydroxyalkylation is about 0.08 to 0.3. The degree of substitution is the average number of substituted OH groups of the starch molecule per anhydroglucose unit. The hydroxyalkylation of a starch can be brought about by reacting a native starch with alkylene oxides with the appropriate number of carbon atoms, including without limitation hydroxypropylation by reaction of the starch with propylene oxide.

[0133] Preferably, the hydroxyalkyl in the hydroxyalkyl-modified starch is a hydroxyl C2-C6 alkyl.

[0137] As used herein, the term "pre-gelatinized" is intended to mean swollen starch particles, which have lost their birefringence and / or maltese crosses in polarized light. Such pre-gelatinized starch derivatives are substantially soluble in cold water without cooking.

[0138] In this context, the term "soluble" does not necessarily mean the formation of a true molecular solution, but may also mean a colloidal  dispersion.

[0202] 1) inviting 6 full-trained sensory experts to participate in the test. The experts were well trained for conditioner sensory evaluation of over 50 types of different conditions with various performance. They are capable of ranking the performance of each checkpoint (like coating, smoothness, softness, etc. ) within a score range from 0 to 5, wherein 0 stands for the weakest performance for the corresponding checkpoint, 5 stands for the strongest performance for the corresponding checkpoint.

[0203] 2) instructing the experts to use each composition of invention examples 1-4 and comparative examples 1-3 following the below steps:

[0204] -washing full head hair with 12 g shampoo and rinsing-off the shampoo thoroughly;

[0205] -applying 12 g of the testing composition on full-head hair and scalp;

[0206] -massaging and leaving for 10 minutes;

[0207] -rinsing off the testing composition;

[0208] -blowing the hair to completely dry;

[0209] 3) then, coating on the hair, smoothness and softness of the hair  delivered by each composition were scored by the sensory experts according to the training standard and the scores were averaged for each composition.

[0210] The results on coating, smoothness and softness of the hair delivered by compositions of invention examples 1-4 and comparative examples 1-3 were summarized in Table 3.

[0211] Table 3

[0212] It can be seen from Table 3 that each composition of invention examples 1-4 can coat on the hair well and deliver the hair good smoothness and softness.
