Abstract
Description
[0001] BGV
[0002] Device that is to be attached to a rod
[0003] The invention relates to a device that is to be attached to a rod. A typical and valuable application for the use of devices according to the invention is the joining of wooden or bamboo rods for the purpose of forming scaffolding.
[0004] DE 8900382 Ul and EP 2251553 Al each disclose a device that is to be attached, for example, to a wooden or bamboo rod. The device comprises a trough-shaped sheet metal part and two bands. The sheet metal part is positioned against the rod such that its profile direction is parallel to the direction of the rod, and a cross-sectional area is enclosed by the trough-shaped sheet metal part. The two bands, which can be, for example, very strong cable ties, encircle the rod and the sheet metal part together. The bands each lie in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the rod. The bands are tightened so that they press the rod and the sheet metal part firmly together and are themselves held securely against slippage on the rod. They can also be positively engaged against slippage on the sheet metal part. Two rods can be connected, for example, by attaching one of the devices described to each rod and by connecting the sheet metal parts of the two devices, typically using threaded screws and nuts, with the threaded screws passing through through holes in the sheet metal parts. The combination of a relatively rigid sheet metal part and a comparatively flexible band is intended to make the device applicable to a relatively wide range of cross-sectional shapes and sizes of rods, while maintaining good connection with other parts and a secure hold. This design has not become established for scaffolding construction using wooden or bamboo poles. If the bands are not tensioned sufficiently, the holding capacity may be compromised.
[0005] The effect is too weak; if the straps are tightened as much as is necessary for the holding effect, there is too great a risk that the wooden or bamboo rods will be destroyed.
[0006] CH 707088 Bl shows a multi-part device designed to be attached to the end of a wooden or bamboo pole, providing a connection point for joining the pole to another part at its end. The device is held in place by four very rigid steel components arranged around the circumference of the pole, which are pressed against the pole's outer surface by clamping bands. The surface of the steel components facing the pole is provided with protruding points that penetrate radially into the pole, thus preventing the steel components from sliding along the pole. This design, too, has not become established for scaffolding construction using wooden or bamboo poles. It is definitely comparatively expensive, and it also requires a disturbingly high level of craftsmanship and very good accuracy when cutting the wooden or bamboo sticks.
[0007] CN 112128189 B discloses a device that is to be attached to a rod by encircling the rod's outer surface in a plane perpendicular to the rod's longitudinal direction. A rigid, semicircular section and a flexible band follow one another in the circumferential direction of the rod, with the band being tensilely connected to the rigid section at both ends. One of these tensile connections is designed as a winding device with a return-stop mechanism for the band. In its intended use, the rigid section does not lie directly against the rod to be enclosed, but rather a flexible section is inserted between them. Due to the limited deformability of the rigid section, the device is only suitable for rods of relatively precisely defined sizes and shapes to be enclosed, in order to ensure a good holding effect.
[0008] The CN 211853088 U and the CN 216811076 U show - with the exception of a winding device - similar devices to the CN 112128189 B, which also have the same disadvantages.
[0009] German patent application DE 202017100680 Ul discloses a device for enclosing a pipe or profile and other parts such as cables, etc., which are to be attached to the pipe or profile. In the enclosing direction, a rigid, plate-shaped part and a tensionable, flexible band follow one another and are connected in a tensile-resistant manner. Due to the rigidity of the plate-shaped part, the device cannot be tightened sufficiently without damaging the enclosed parts to reliably block longitudinal displacements of the pipe or profile.
[0010] Starting from this state of the art, the inventor set himself the task of providing a device for attaching parts to a wooden or bamboo rod, which should enable the joining of several wooden or bamboo rods to form scaffolding in a cost-effective manner, and which is easier to attach than the devices discussed, so that it holds reliably and does not destroy the wooden or bamboo rod.
[0011] To solve the problem, the known features are taken as a starting point, namely that the device surrounds the lateral surface of the rod in a plane perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the rod, wherein the circumference of the rod is contacted at a first partial section by a more rigid part and at a further partial section by a band which is more flexible than the more rigid part and is under tensile stress, wherein the band is connected to the more rigid part at both ends in a tensile-resistant manner, BGV which represent the ends of the wrapping of the wooden or bamboo rod by the sheet metal part.
[0012] As a further development according to the invention, it is proposed to form the more rigid part as a sheet metal part, wherein the sheet metal part is connected on the side opposite the band to a stiffening part to which further parts can be attached.
[0013] This easily implemented measure, in contrast to previously known designs, allows the sheet metal part to be made from a thinner sheet despite the device's secure connection to another, non-functional part. This ensures that the load on the sheet metal part is predominantly tensile, acting in the plane of the sheet metal part, and allows it to conform very well to the rod's outer surface. This results in a large contact area between the sheet metal part and the rod's outer surface, even if this surface—as is often the case with wooden or bamboo rods—is irregularly shaped and, for example, conical. The resulting large force transmission area between the rod and the sheet metal part allows for the transmission of very high forces without creating destructively large compressive stress concentrations on the rod at any single point.
[0014] According to an advantageous further development of the invention, the intended contact surface of the sheet metal part with the rod is provided with raised projections, preferably points, which, during intended use, penetrate superficially into the outer surface of the rod. This measure improves the frictional connection between the rod and the sheet metal part and also achieves a kind of positive fit.
[0015] According to a further advantageous development, one of the connection points between the strip and the sheet metal part is designed as a winding device (BGV) which has a rotatable core around which the strip is wound, as well as an optionally reversible backstop. Such devices are very easy and intuitive to operate and can be easily designed to withstand a very, very large number of work cycles without damage.
[0016] According to a preferred further development, the rotation of the core can be driven by a lever that is many times longer than the maximum radius of the winding of the band.
[0017] According to a preferred further development, an end face of the rotatable core is provided with an engagement geometry for a machine to drive a rotation - for example, a cordless screwdriver.
[0018] Fig. 1: Shows a perspective sketch of an exemplary device according to the invention.
[0019] The device 1 according to the invention as shown in Fig. 1 comprises a sheet metal part 2, a band 3, two connecting areas 4, 5 between the sheet metal part 2 and the band 3, a rotatable core 6, a backstop 7, and a stiffening part 8.
[0020] Sheet metal part 2 is formed from an approximately rectangular strip of sheet metal, which has been bent into the shape of a partial ring. A connecting area 4, 5 is arranged at each of the two open ends of this partial ring, at which sheet metal part 2 is connected to the strip 3. In its intended use, the ring-shaped structure formed by sheet metal part 2 and strip 3 encircles the outer surface of a rod, for example, a wooden or bamboo rod, which is part of scaffolding.
[0021] The connection area 4 has a hook-shaped structure anchored to the sheet metal part 2, onto which an end area of the band 3, rigidly connected with a bolt, can be hooked and, in the hooked state, is held tensile-resistant against movement towards the opposite connection area 5.
[0022] At the connection point 5, the core 6, designed as an approximately cylindrical bolt and connected to the second end section of the band 3, is rotatably mounted. By rotating the core 6, the band 3 is wound around the core 6, thereby drawing the two connection points 4 and 5 towards each other by the band 3.
[0023] In the illustrated example, one end face of the core 6 is designed as a hexagonal head 9. A conventional drive for screws, for example a wrench or a cordless screwdriver, can engage with the hexagonal head 9 and drive the rotation of the core up to very high torques.
[0024] Instead of a hexagonal head 9, the core 6 could also be directly provided with a radially projecting lever, with the aid of which the torque required to wind up the band 2 can be applied.
[0025] A gear is attached to the second end face of the core, which forms part of a backstop 7 that blocks rotation of the core in one direction. The locking effect of the backstop 7 can be released by pivoting a release lever 10, which is held in the locked position by a spring 11 in the absence of any other action. Such backstops, also known as ratchet mechanisms, are widely known – for example, from ratchet straps – and therefore need not be discussed further here.
[0026] The sheet metal part 2 is provided with protrusions 12, which extend from the respective plane of the sheet metal towards the center of the ring-shaped structure formed by the sheet metal part 2 and the strip 3. During intended use, these protrusions 12 penetrate superficially into the material of the rod to which the device 1 is connected, in contact with the sheet metal part.
[0027] According to the invention, the device has a stiffening element 8. The stiffening element 8 is made of significantly thicker sheet metal than the sheet metal part 2, and it is rigidly connected to the sheet metal part 2 on the side opposite the strip 3. It extends longitudinally along the sheet metal part 2—that is, circumferentially around the rod to be encompassed—only by a portion of the area in which the sheet metal part 2 is intended to extend along the rod to be encompassed. The stiffening element 8 serves to fasten the device 1 to other parts. By using the stiffening element 8, which serves to connect to other parts, the sheet metal part 2 can be made of thinner sheet metal than would otherwise be possible. Making the sheet metal part 2 from the thinnest possible sheet metal is advantageous because it reduces the risk of damage to the rod, which is typically a wooden or bamboo rod.
[0028] For example, such a further part can in turn be a device 1 to which another rod, which can be a wooden or bamboo rod of scaffolding, can be attached according to the invention. It is also possible, however, to attach a fixed sheet metal part to the stiffening part 8, to which two further devices 1 according to the invention are attached at a distance from each other. In this way, the holding effects with devices 1 can be added as desired.
[0029] Preferably, the stiffening element 8 is designed as a part having a bulge, wherein the convex side of the bulge faces away from the band 2 – and thus from the rod to be encompassed – and the bulged area is penetrated by a bore. A space is thus formed on the concave side of the bulge in which, for example, the head of a screw or a comparable fastening element such as a rivet (BGV) can be easily accommodated, the bolt of which extends through the aforementioned bore. This results in very simple conditions for connecting the device 1 to other parts by means of a screw or a rivet.
[0030] In an exemplary, advantageously simple case, the stiffening element 8 is designed as a profile which has a groove, for example as a flat U-, C- or hat-shaped profile, the base surface of which is positioned away from the strip 2. In this way, it is easy to position the head of a screw or rivet, which passes through the base surface, in the groove at a through-hole through the base surface of the profile.
