Description

[0001] Vegetable support for the cultivation, transport, and transplanting of vegetables with their roots intact. DESCRIPTIVE MEMORANDUM TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION This utility model focuses on the field of vegetable cultivation devices. In general, it refers to a support for growing vegetables using hydroponic or aeroponic techniques, and more specifically, to a vertical growing system (vegetable support) in a vertical wall format, which allows the end user to harvest the live plant with its roots intact. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Today, there has been a significant increase in the production of plant-based foods due to high global demand. However, to accelerate cultivation processes, new, faster, and more efficient techniques and systems have been implemented, especially moving away from traditional soil-based agriculture, which is slower, as there is increasingly less land available to meet the demand for vegetables. In this regard, techniques such as hydroponics and aeroponics have become highly relevant, as they allow for more efficient use of water and nutrients supplied to plants, efficient use of space, and faster cultivation. Furthermore, due to the limitations of available land, different forms of vertical farming have been designed, which allow for cultivation in small spaces. Large areas of land are not required; instead, vertical structures are designed, achieving high yields per unit area. However, this is where the problem arises, since traditional vertical farming towers typically use a foam and gauze system in which the roots are intertwined. Therefore, when the vegetable is harvested, it lacks sufficient roots to be transported and prevent senescence, as it no longer absorbs nutrients (resulting in nutritional loss). Furthermore, the traditional system, being composed of three parts (tower-gauze-foam), leads to greater complexity in sanitization, increasing both time and costs. Traditional vertical farming systems. Patent application US 2018 / 0092314 A1 discloses a vertical hydroponic system. The flow rate or pressure of the nutrient solution passing through the system is uniform throughout to reduce or prevent blockages and / or leaks. The diameters of the various components of the system's water supply piping are designed to reduce or prevent blockages and / or leaks. The vertical hydroponic system includes at least one body, at least one pot attached to the front surface of at least one body to support one or more plants, and a water source seamlessly connected to each body to deliver water uniformly to each pot. Each body is configured to direct water away from its front surface to reduce or prevent leaks. The 120 pots are designed to support one or more plants in the absence of soil using an inert growing medium, which includes, but is not limited to, one or more clay granules, rock wool, glass beads, recycled glass, perlite, peat moss, moss, vermiculite, and gravel. The inert medium supports the plant roots and holds the plant(s) in pots 120. In some embodiments, one or more plants are suspended in water in pots 120. Therefore, this document does indicate that its support may use elements that generate humidity and promote the growth of microorganisms (such as rock wool, peat, and moss). However, this document does not have the same form as the present invention, nor does it describe a cultivation system without a support to prevent the growth of bacteria, fungi, and root rot, and to reduce the risk of root breakage when removing the plant. US patent application 2023 / 0337592 A1 discloses a hydroponic plant production apparatus comprising: a hollow growth tube with a slot; and a vegetable support for cultivating, moving, and transplanting the vegetable with its roots intact. Methods for using a hollow culture tube with a groove formed on the front face of the growth tube, and a matrix medium insert composed of two halves, where the medium is inserted into the growth tube, allowing plants to be inserted and grown between the two halves of the matrix medium insert in the growth tube. Methods for using a hollow culture tube with a groove formed on the front face of the growth tube and a matrix medium insert composed of two halves, where the medium is inserted into the growth tube, allowing plants to be inserted and grow. Two halves of the matrix medium insert are also provided in the growth tube. It is stated that the medium (18) (support matrix) is preferably a fibrous, non-woven, air-laid medium made of polyethylene plastic, although it may also be made of any type of plastic.Where the medium material (18) is preferably constructed from a polyester matrix material approximately 2 inches thick, cut to the width / internal diameter of the grow tube and folded in half so that both halves together approximately equal the internal dimensions of the grow tube. Therefore, this document does describe a fibrous containment material; this type of material can accumulate moisture and microorganisms in the plant roots. However, this document does not describe the same form as the present invention, nor does it describe a cultivation system without a support to prevent the growth of bacteria, fungi, rot, and root breakage when the plant is removed. Patent application WO 2016 / 116659 A1 discloses the cultivation of plants with a vertically oriented hydroponic garden. The invention embodies a one-piece horticultural growing tube apparatus comprising one or more horizontal pipe sections with plant entry points (3). Plant roots enter the growing tube body and are exposed to the flow of nutrient- and oxygen-rich water within the tube. At one end of the upper horizontal pipe section is a connection (1) for water to enter the tube. At the other end of the lower horizontal pipe section, the pipe curves downward to connect to the lower vertical pipe section (4), terminating at the lower end (2), which serves as the water outlet. This supports the cultivation, relocation, and transplanting of vegetables with their roots intact. The growing tube body may have attachment points (11) for mounting the system.According to user cases, the plant inlets are designed to be filled with plants or flat surfaces containing pots, planters, and rockwool cubes of various shapes and sizes. The pipes, pots, and net pots can be filled with organic or non-organic growing media to support the plant roots. Therefore, this document does indicate that its support can utilize elements that generate humidity and promote the growth of microorganisms (such as rock). However, this document does not have the same form as the present invention, nor does it describe a growing system without support to prevent the growth of bacteria, fungi, and root rot or breakage when the plant is removed. US patent application 2022 / 0272908 A1 is shown on the company's website (URL: https: / / growpipes.(com / our-patented-solution / ), a plant holder for a hydroponic growing system, comprising a body having an upper section, a middle section, and a lower section, wherein the plant holder comprises a first conduit having a rear wall and a front wall, wherein the plant holder comprises a plant hopper with a plant opening disposed in the upper section, wherein the first conduit comprises an inclined lower wall having an outlet opening disposed in the lower section, wherein the plant holder further comprises a lid disposed in the plant opening, wherein the lid comprises a collector plate extending from the interior of the first conduit into the plant hopper, wherein the collector plate terminates outside the periphery of the plant holder. Figure 5 shows that this document uses a square sponge as a plant holder. Therefore, it differs in form from the present invention and in that it uses a sponge (which would generate fungi, moisture, and microorganisms). Patent application US 2023 / 0309476 A1 discloses a system for growing and harvesting products for use with at least one motor, the system comprising: a plurality of vertical growing towers, each growing tower defining an orifice and including a plurality of openings extending to the orifice from a vegetable support for growing, moving, and transplanting the vegetable with its roots intact.environmental environment, and a cylindrical upper end; a tower gear at the cylindrical upper end, the tower gear being in motive communication with the cultivation tower; and a gripping and rotating system, the gripping and rotating system including a body, an external gear for coupling the tower gear, a strut extending between the body and the external gear and in rotational communication with the external gear, a pair of arms attached to the body; a first gripping jaw and a second gripping jaw defining an opening sized to accept the cylindrical upper end of each cultivation tower, each gripping jaw being attached to one of the pair of arms, and including a plurality of rollers disposed in the opening. However, this document describes a completely different system from the present invention (with gears). This document does not have the same form as the present invention, nor does it describe a cultivation system without a support to prevent the growth of bacteria, fungi, and root rot or breakage when the plant is removed. The website (Aliexpress 1) advertises a hydroponic balcony growing system with a detachable, petal-shaped deluge planting column. Name: Vertical Rain Tower Planter; -Material: PP plastic; -Color: Black and white; -Style: 8 / 10 / 12 tiers; -Number of plants per tier: 5 plants. Therefore, this document describes a different tower design than the present invention, and it uses a sponge as a plant support, which differs from the present invention. The website (AliExpress 2) advertises an indoor hydroponic pineapple tower, aeroponic style, made of PVC, with 8 / 10 layers of soil. This document describes a different tower design than the present invention, and it uses a sponge as a plant support, which differs from the present invention. The website (Ebay) advertises a 50-piece vertical, soilless tower growing system. No soil needs to be added to the organic green vegetable growing system. It provides a vegetable support for growing, moving, and transplanting vegetables with their roots intact. Advantages: 1. No mess, clean and sanitary; 2. Organic vegetable cultivation; 3. Vigorous growth, higher yields; 4. Three-dimensional cultivation, saving space. Packaging: Mode 1: 40 cups; Mode 2: 40 cups + 40 sponges. Therefore, this document does describe a different tower design than the one in the present invention, and it can be seen that the basket where the plant is placed uses a sponge as a plant support, which differs from the present invention. Patent application CA 3088208 A1 discloses a vertical growing system comprising a plurality of open-topped plant growing modules, each of which has a loop-shaped "hanging bracket" that allows it to be removably hung on a corresponding plurality of hook-shaped "hanging brackets," which are fixed in spaced vertical alignment on a vertical support surface, thus forming a hydroponic plant growing tower. Nutrient fluid is pumped to the top of the tower and cascades down to the highest plant growing module. After nourishing the plants growing in the upper module, the liquid drains from the bottom and cascades down to the adjacent module; the cascade continues through all the tower's modules. A "lifting pole" accessory allows the user, at ground level, to remotely raise any of the tower's plant cultivation modules and lower it to the ground to tend to the plants growing within. Upper and lower stabilizing supports are typically provided to counteract the tendency of the tall lifting pole to tip over. The system can be configured as a freestanding structure in which a grid of spaced masts is held in place by upper and lower lattice structures with diagonal braces fixed to the upper and lower ends of the mast, thus forming a plurality of tower support surfaces on each mast. The freestanding vertical farm structure can be equipped with a greenhouse cover to extend its growing season. In the hydroponic implementation of the system, the term "nutrient solution" refers to the water containing dissolved plant nutrients that is continuously recirculated through the tower to nourish the plants. In the hydroponic implementation, the plants grown in each module have their roots embedded in a sterile growing medium such as open-cell foam, rock wool, expanded clay pebbles, inert substrate, or mixtures of such media. The hydroponic growing medium simply supports the root fibers of each plant and exposes them to the recirculating stream of chemically fertilized nutrient solution that cascades through the tower. Therefore, this document does indicate that its support can use elements that generate humidity, since it uses a sponge as a support for the plant, which differs from the present invention. However, this document does not have the same form as the present invention. Patent application WO 2020 / 051271 A1 discloses a hydroponic tower including opposite parallel first and second sides extending from an upper end of the hydroponic tower to a lower end. The first side includes at least one growing groove extending across it. Opposite parallel third and fourth sides are adjacent to each of the first and second sides and extend from the upper end of the hydroponic tower to the lower end, such that the hydroponic tower has a rectangular cross-section. The first, second, third, and fourth sides define a hollow interior. The third side includes at least one growing groove extending across it. The at least one growing groove on the first and third sides is in communication with the hollow interior. With reference to Figures 10-13, a growing medium section 60 configured for use with tower 10 is illustrated. The growing medium section 60 can be made of a porous foam or any other suitable material. In one embodiment, the growing medium section 60 is made of a medium-density cross-linked plastic foam. Therefore, this document has a tower design different from that of the present invention, and it can be seen that it uses a sponge as a plant support, which differs from the present invention. Therefore, there is a need to develop new technologies that allow the cultivation of vegetables in growing media without supports that generate rot, fungi, humidity, or microorganisms, which affect the roots, deteriorate the vegetable more quickly, or reduce its shelf life, such as current vegetable support systems for cultivation, transport, and transplanting with intact roots. These systems use root supports made of rock wool, glass wool, peat, moss, sponge, foam, gauze, among others. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION Considering that current growing tower systems are all designed with root supports that generate rot, fungi, and bacteria within the support, these systems present a risk of root breakage when the plant is removed. One objective of the present invention is to create a vegetable support system that allows for the cultivation, transport, and transplanting of vegetables with their roots intact onto a piece of furniture, so that the consumer can harvest the product at the point of sale. Consequently, the present invention solves this problem by means of a vegetable support system comprising a vegetable growing tower that does not use support elements that generate rot, fungi, viruses, bacteria, or excess moisture in the roots. This system comprises: - A base for the growing tower (1); - A lid for the growing tower (2); and - A support / well / capsule (3) for the seed, seedling, or plant, for root anchorage.Where said support / well / capsule (3), for seed, seedling, or plant, has a tab for anchoring a seed or seedling, allowing the root to grow freely and eliminating the need for any other root anchoring system, such as rock wool, peat, moss, sponges, gauze, among others. The system described by this solution also minimizes the risk of root breakage when extracting the plant, a risk inherent in previous systems described in the prior art. This shows a photograph of a plant in a natural substrate with its roots, ready to be placed in the growing cup.DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION For a better understanding of the present invention, the following definitions are necessary, which should only be understood as elements that aid in understanding the particular technical characteristics in this field. As used in the present invention, the term “Hydroponics” refers to a method that uses a liquid medium for growing crops. In this system, the roots float within a nutrient solution, but the plants are supported on a lightweight sheet (usually made of polystyrene foam), which rests on the surface of the liquid medium. Currently, we can distinguish two types of hydroponics: Solution hydroponics: This type is characterized by the fact that only this solution is used for the plant to grow properly.Passive medium: In addition to the solution itself, it is combined with an inert material such as clay, thus providing significant nutritional support to the plants. This support is designed for vegetables, facilitating their cultivation, transport, and transplanting with their roots intact. As used in the present invention, the term "Aeroponics" refers to the process of growing plants in an air or mist environment without soil. The basic principle of aeroponics is to grow plants in a closed or semi-closed environment by spraying the hanging roots and lower stem with a nutrient-rich aqueous solution. As used in the present invention, the term "Root Support" refers to the set of technologies that allow a plant's root system to grow and be cultivated outside of soil (as in hydroponics or aeroponics). The supports that allow root anchorage and that the present invention aims to eliminate include: rock wool, peat, moss, sponges, foams, gauze, synthetic fibers, and inert substrate, among many others. Such supports generate rot, fungi, bacteria, and excess moisture in the plant's roots, and can also cause root breakage when the plant is removed. As used in the present invention, the term "PVC" refers to Polyvinyl Chloride, a type of plastic belonging to the polymer family. It is a thermoplastic material that, when heated, becomes soft and easily molded, and regains its solidity upon cooling. As used in the present invention, the term "PETG" refers to glycol-modified polyethylene terephthalate, a type of plastic belonging to the copolymer family. It is widely used in applications requiring transparency, impact resistance, and ease of processing. It has good overall chemical resistance. It is resistant to many common chemicals, such as alcohols, dilute acids, oils, and greases. Due to its chemical resistance, it can be used to create parts that come into contact with any type of solvent, adhesive, or chemical agent. It is also used as a vegetable support for growing, moving, and transplanting vegetables with their roots intact. Our business model consists of establishing urban farms in various locations within cities (production hubs) to supply live plants to the mobile gardens (consumption hubs) located at the same point of consumption. The main technical problem we have solved with our invention is the ability to perform intensive agriculture in the production hub and harvest the plant with its root intact for transport and placement in the customer's garden unit (consumption hub). In this garden unit, the plant remains alive and absorbs nutrients through its roots, allowing the customer to consume a fresh, recently harvested product. This vertical farming system ensures the same level of production, quality, and traceability anywhere, regardless of climatic or geographical conditions. A key advantage of this invention is the vertical wall-style vertical cultivation system, which, unlike other systems of this format, allows for harvesting the live plant with its roots intact. This unique feature allows for the transport of live plants to our specially designed retail units (grocery gardens) where they remain fresh and nutrient-rich for an extended period. This ensures that consumers harvest their vegetables with intact roots. Our design is based on a device that supports the plant and guides the irrigation water using gravity, guaranteeing that all roots remain alive and hydrated. This same design is replicated in our retail units (grocery gardens) in restaurants and supermarkets, maintaining freshness and nutritional value. Furthermore, because the system is made entirely of plastic, sanitizing it is simpler, requiring no soaking with gauze or foam, but only a high-pressure water wash.Another advantage is that our invention aims to address the need for year-round availability for restaurants, retailers, and consumers, providing the experience of harvesting their own vegetables at the moment they are consumed. Our system allows for the cultivation, transport, and transplanting of vegetables with their roots intact. With our system, we reduce product losses that occur throughout the distribution chain and after purchase by the end consumer, both in terms of physical losses (shrinkage) and nutritional losses, which occur from the moment the roots stop absorbing nutrients. As mentioned earlier, one of the advantages of our system is that it allows the end customer (the one who will consume the product) to do the harvesting. This point is important because it is well known that once harvested, vegetables continue to respire, thus using up nutrients that are no longer available to the consumer. Therefore, offering consumers the option of harvesting their own vegetables allows them to obtain the product's maximum nutritional potential. Other vegetable producers generally take at least 3-5 days to bring the product from harvest to table. The invention is a 3D-printed device in the form of a vegetable support (Figure 1) whose design allows the plant to not only keep its roots hydrated in a vertical system but also to allow them to move freely. Furthermore, since it is a plastic device, sanitization is highly efficient, as it is a single piece that can be sanitized with pressurized water, eliminating any risk of pests or agricultural diseases. In the traditional model, both foam and gauze require more complex sanitization since they require soaking, which involves more time, space, and equipment. Based on this, the design of the support / well / capsule has a significant advantage over other designs, thanks to its tab and notch, as it allows for the growth and intertwining of plant roots without the need for sponge, gauze, or foam supports. Therefore, the technical advantages of the invention are explained through the description, examples, and figures accompanying this invention. For example, in a non-limiting embodiment, the system of the present invention can be assembled as a vegetable support for the cultivation, transport, and transplanting of vegetables with their roots intact, in a 2-meter format, as shown in Figure 1.However, the invention should not be limited to the design shown in Figure 1, since the operation of the vegetable support can be applied at various scales, and the materials can be modified to make it more economical, resistant, or washable. Therefore, the present invention is intended to be protected in the following non-limiting embodiments: 1. A vegetable support, comprising a vegetable growing tower that does not use support elements that generate rot, fungi, viruses, bacteria, or excess moisture in the roots, which comprises: • A base for the growing tower (1); • A lid for the growing tower (2); and • A support / well / capsule (3) for the seed, seedling, or plant, for root anchorage.Where said support / well / capsule (3), for seed, seedling, or plant, has a tab for anchoring a seed or seedling, attached to a fragment of inert natural substrate, which allows the root to grow freely, not requiring any other additional root anchoring system, such as rock wool, peat, moss, sponges, foams, gauze, synthetic fibers, among others. 2. The vegetable support of point 1, where the construction material of the tower base (1), tower lid (2), and support / well / capsule (3) may comprise polyvinyl chloride (PVC), glycol-modified polyethylene terephthalate (PETG), silicone, among others. 3. The vegetable support of point 1, where a standard support is designed in a size of 2 meters in height; 40 mm thick section; 70 mm wide and 19 supports / wells / capsules (3). Vegetable support for growing, moving and transplanting vegetables with their roots intact. 4.The vegetable support of point 1, wherein said vegetable support is designed in a size ranging from 50 cm to 4 meters in height; with a cross-section between 30 and 50 mm thick; and from 30 to 120 mm wide; for standard handling within a home, business, or supermarket. 5. The vegetable support of point 1, wherein said vegetable support is designed in a size exceeding 4 meters in height, 50 mm in thickness, and 120 mm in width, for industrialized handling in sheds or factories. 6. The vegetable support of point 1, wherein the support / well / capsule (3) has a diameter of 40 mm. 7. The vegetable support of point 4, where the size of the support / well / capsule (3) ranges from 40 mm in diameter to 60 mm in diameter, in proportion to the size of the tower. 8.The vegetable support of point 5, where the size of the support / well / capsule (3) can exceed 60 mm in diameter, for industrialized handling in sheds or factories. 9. The vegetable support of point 2, where the construction material of the tower base (1), tower lid (2), and support / well / capsule (3) is PVC. 10. The vegetable support of point 2, where the construction material of the tower base (1), tower lid (2), and support / well / capsule (3) is PETG. 11. The vegetable support of point 2, where the construction material of the tower base (1), tower lid (2), and support / well / capsule (3) is silicone. EXAMPLES Vegetable support for the cultivation, transport, and transplanting of vegetables with their roots intact. The description of the rigorous testing for the utility model's functionality, as well as the process for implementing the vegetable support for each component, is shown in the following application examples. Example 1: Prototype and initial design. The initial prototype was designed as a tower and implemented as a 2-meter tower (FIGURE 1) for practical reasons, so that any user could manipulate, plant, and harvest the vegetables. This constituted the first cultivation prototype. The tower was initially made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and the support / well / capsule was made of glycol-modified polyethylene terephthalate (PETG). In the 2-meter prototype, a nominal diameter of 40 mm was used for the support / well / capsule. Example 2: Scaling tests and other materials.Following the initial prototype of Example 1 (initial 2-meter design), other formats were designed as possible tower sizes. The length of these towers can range from 50 cm (for a home user) to 4 m (for a business or supermarket) without issue, and the cross-section ranges from 30 to 50 mm thick and 30 to 120 mm wide (FIGURE 2), scaling the design accordingly. However, in discussions with large industries, the possibility of designing a tower size exceeding 4 meters in height, 50 mm in thickness, and 120 mm in width was explored for industrialized handling in warehouses or factories. The same applies to the size of the planting cup, which ranges from 40 to 60 mm in diameter (Figure 3), with larger diameters possible if scaled to other dimensions. This support is designed for vegetables, facilitating the cultivation, transport, and transplanting of vegetables with their roots intact.Furthermore, other materials for the tower base, tower lid, and support / well / capsule were evaluated, including PVC, PETG, and silicone, among others. In this regard, a greater advantage was found in designing the support / well / capsule from PVC due to cost considerations, and also in modifying it to silicone, especially because the latter allows for a better fit to the size characteristics of the transplanted plant and also provides a better seal between the support / well / capsule and the tower itself. Additionally, the use of silicone in the tower allows for a better washing system, which does not accumulate pathogenic microorganisms in its structure. Example 3: Experience in the seed / plant cultivation process.Actual germination and harvest tests were conducted on vegetables grown in the vegetable growing medium of the present invention, considering the time elapsed between seed insertion / germination of a seedling / seedling, which is up to 2 weeks (depending on the species); and from plant to harvest, from 21 to 42 ± 8 days (depending on the species) and the climatic conditions of the season. Figure 4 shows a germinated seedling with its roots attached to the natural substrate, which can be, for example, an inert substrate, free of microorganisms and ready to be placed in the support / well / capsule (3), so that the plant can continue its natural growth until harvest. It is important to note that the cultivation times for plants under conditions such as the present invention (and hydroponics, aeroponics) are much shorter than the times it takes for a vegetable grown in soil. Therefore, Table 1 is presented below, showing the cultivation times in days for different vegetables using the system of the present invention: Vegetable support for cultivation, transport, and transplanting of vegetables with their roots intact. Table 1: Cultivation times for different vegetables. Vegetable Days from germination to seedling Days from plant to harvest Milk 14 days 24-30 days. REFERENCES ^ US 2018 / 0092314 A1.
