[0023] Detailed Description of the Disclosure

[0024] DISCLOSURE OVERVIEW

[0025] In accordance with the present disclosure, technical result as provided is provided by the two main factors:

[0026] 1. a mixture of substances for generating an increased volume of gases, which results in such a way that during a chemical reaction gases are formed to create high pressure in a working area, as well as being applicable; set in motion mechanical components, such as the working elements of the actuators.

[0027] 2. the use of a large amount of a gas-generating agent combined with a moderate combustion rate of the composition , for example 0.9 -2.1 mm  / sec, which quickly provides a high pressure in aworking volume while the combustion of the composition is flameless.

[0028] Flameless combustion of the composition of the present disclosureallows it to be used in situations where the working volume is sensitive to high temperatures, and in environments wherethere are restrictions on heating the walls of the working volume.

[0029] GAS GENERATING COMPOSITION (GGC) OF THE DISCLOSURE

[0030] The basic gas-generating composition (GGC) of compositions as provided by the present disclosureincludes by way of example:

[0031] - a fuel-binder - for example, shellac or, for example, polyvinyl butyral or, for example, nitrocellulose or, for example, nitrocellulose solution in the form of NC varnish, or for example, iditol solution,

[0032] - a gas-forming agent, for example, nitroguanidine or, for example, dicyandiamide, or, for example, guanidine nitrate, or, for example, triaminoguanidine nitrate or, for example, their mixtures with melamine,

[0033] - a first oxidizer-alkali metal nitrate, for example, potassium nitrate,

[0034] - a second oxidizer, for example, potassium perchlorate,

[0035] - a catalyst, for example, ferrocene or, for example, potassium dichromate or, for example, ammonium dichromate,

[0036] - additionally introduced a second gasifying agent for, generating an additional amount of working gas, for example, potassium hydroterephthalate.

[0037] The components included in the GGC are taken in the following proportions per 100%of the mass, by way of example as follows in table 1:

[0038] Table 1:

[0039] The increased amount of the nitroguanidine as a gasifier or dicyandiamide or guanidine nitrate or triaminoguanidine nitrate or their mixture with melamine allows, in combination with the catalyst and the second gasifying agent, to provide high-speed generation of the gas for rapid filling of a working volume with the required amount of working gas.

[0040] When the content of the first gasifying agent1 is less than 10 %of mass the effect of the working gas generation becomes insignificant, and the efficiency of the pyrotechnic mixture that is the gas generating composition (GGС) , is insignificant. The rate and temperature of combustion of the thermal base are also reduced, creating a lack of calorific value and gas generation to generate gases.

[0041] When the amount of the first gasifying agent is more than 40 %of mass the gas generation rate drops to an unacceptable value. The efficiency of gas generation also decreases due to incomplete combustion of the base.

[0042] Ferrocene contained in the gas generating composition (GGС) , is preferably used as a catalyst.

[0043] Chemical compounds of metals or their mixtures, or potassium dichromate or ammonium dichromate can also act as catalysts. If the catalyst content is less than 0.1 %of mass total, its effectiveness in the mixture becomes insignificant and does not affect the formation of stable combustion of the composition. If the catalyst content is more than 8.0 %of the mass total, no increase in the combustion efficiency of the composition is observed and further increase in the mass fraction of the catalyst does not make sense and is not applicable.

[0044] Nitrocellulose or its solution in the form of NC varnish or shellac or polyvinyl butyral or paraffin or stearin or an iditol solution is preferably used as a fuel-binder. With a fuel-binder content of less than 3.0 mass %, its amount becomes insufficient to obtain acceptable technological characteristics obtained in terms of hardness and impact resistance of the functional charge blocks of the composition, which affects the possibility of manufacturing pressed charges as such. With a fuel-binder content of more than 8.0 mass %, there is no significant improvement in hardness and impact resistance in pressed functional blocks, but at the same time the mass of gas content decreases by weight, which generally reduces the effectiveness of a composition of the present disclosure.

[0045] Alkali metal nitrate is preferably used as a first oxidizer. If the content of the alkali metal nitrate is less than 25.0 mass %, even with the addition of a second oxidizerin the form of potassium perchlorate, it does not allow the creationof the necessary oxygen balance of the reaction and obtain a stable combustion of the mixture. If the content of alkali metal nitrate is more than 60.0 mass %when adding second oxidantin the form of potassium perchlorate, it creates a positive oxygen balance, leading to a flaming combustion of the composition and the excessive oxygen generation, which negatively affects the functional efficiency of the composition.

[0046] Potassium perchlorate is preferably used as the second oxidizer. If the content of potassium perchlorate is less than 10 mass %it does not allow to intensify the combustion of the gas-generating agent No. 2 in the form of potassium hydroterephthalate. The perchlorate content of more than 30 mass %does not significantly affects the increment of the combustion rate of the second gasifying agent in the form of potassium hydroterephthalate and is technologically unjustifiable.

[0047] The specific feature of gas generating composition (GGС) , suggests its use in mechanisms operating in relatively small conditionally sealed or non-tight spaces in severe climatic conditions with the effect of high-speed flameless generation of working gas while creating a displacement pressure.

[0048] The combustion of gas generating composition (GGС) , occurs with high speed within a charge body, with the working medium emitting gas stronger.

[0049] PROCESS OF MANUFACTURE

[0050] Below is a technological example of a method for manufacturing the composition is given below purely for illustrative purpose, and it does not limit the scope of claims of a set of essential features of the claims.

[0051] The quantitative ratio of the components of the proposed gas generating composition (GGС) , within the optimized ranges, was calculated using a mathematical model of experiment planning and confirmed by the results of experimental verification of the functioning of test sample charges for their intended purpose, which showed the achievement of improved characteristics in terms of the efficiency of generating working gas in sealed volumes.

[0052] As follows information is provided regarding the development of the gas generating composition (GGC) and confirmation of the achievement of the specified technical result in accordance with the present disclosure.

[0053] In accordance with an exemplary mode of manufacturing the gas-generating composition (GGC) of the present disclosure, information is provided regarding an exemplary mode of development of the gas-generating composition (GGC) .

[0054] The gas generating composition (GGС) is prepared using industrial equipment according to the following technological process of successive operations of mixing components in a range of their content:

[0055] For the preparation of the gas generating composition (GGС) according to the present disclosure, the following components are used in table 2:

[0056] Table 2:

[0057] Firstly, the first oxidizer, for example, potassium nitrate, is selected with the particle size of 45±15 μm and dried to achieve the moisture content of not more than 0.08 mass %, in order to eliminate its phlegmatizing effect during the fuel oxidation and to stabilize the combustion of the gas-generating composition (GGC) .

[0058] The first gasifying agent, for example, nitroguanidine, is selected with a particle size of 100±15 μm with moisture content of no more than 0.8 mass %. Selection of finely powdered nitroguanidine is necessary for its uniform distribution in the composition when mixing the components.

[0059] The ratio of the composition components for mixing is selected according to the declared ranges of their content.

[0060] The second oxidizer, for example potassium perchlorate, second gasifying agent, for example potassium hydroterephthalate, is added to the necessary mass of the first oxidizer sample, for example potassium nitrate. Then the fuel-binder, for example iditol solution, is also added and mixed for 60-120 minutes at a temperature of 40-60℃, ensuring their uniform distribution, with maximum contact between the active components of the thermal base in the form of autonomous clusters.

[0061] After this, the powders of the first gasifying agent, such as nitroguanidine, and catalyst, such as ferrocene, are added to the mixer and mixed for 20-30 minutes, forming conglomerates with a coating of the fuel and the oxidizer. The fuel and the oxidizer conglomerates stick to the surfaces of the thermal base clusters in direct contact along the extended surface of chemical interaction during combustion. The conglomerates are characterized by good flammability and stable combustion.

[0062] The prepared mixture is then granulated in a mixer by rubbing through a mesh with 2 -4 mm cells. Then the granulated material is laid out on perforated trays in a layer of 2-3 cm for dehumidifying combined with drying at a temperature of 35-45℃. In this process, the content of volatile substances and moisture in the composition is controlled allowing not more than 0.6 mass%. The drying process of the granulated material lasts about 2-3 hours.

[0063] The prepared material is used to form charges by volumetric dosing using extrusion, blind or continuous molding.

[0064] EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS

[0065] During the tests the integrated speed and volume of the working gas generation were assessed. The gas-generating composition (GGC) was placed in a sealed vessel with the internal volume of 10 liters, in which a pressure gauge was mounted. The tested composition was placed in the test vessel and initiated remotely with an electric igniter.

[0066] Variants of the GGC ingredients for 100%of the mass are summarized in the table 3.

[0067] Table 3:

[0068] The Variants No. 1 - No. 5 of the table above are Compositions No. 1 - No. 5 as follows.

[0069] Composition No. 1

[0070] Composition No. 1 had a low combustion rate, about 0.1 -0.4 mm  / sec, as well as an increased slag content, which is unacceptable for the task. Combustion is unstable. This result was obtained due to the increased content of the first gasifying agent and the second gasifying agent.

[0071] The generation of additional gas was relatively average, which did not allow achieving correctly the required pressure parameters in the entire volume. The result is that the required pressure was not achieved with a 10 gram charge block.

[0072] Composition No. 2

[0073] Composition No. 2 had good efficiency, good results of molding the composition, but was still less effective in extinguishing a model fire than composition No. 3. The efficiency of the composition was increased by redistributing the ratio of the first gasifying agent and the second gasifying agent, which allowed creating a better mixed composition.

[0074] Also, the large amount of generated gas made it possible to create increased pressure in the working volume. As a result the required pressure was achieved with a 10 gram charge block at the limit of the specifications. The gas generation rate was lower than required.

[0075] Composition No. 4

[0076] Composition No. 4 was worse in terms of operating efficiency than composition No. 3, and had an increased combustion rate, which led to an increased generation rate and the appearance of flame combustion of the composition.

[0077] An increase in the combustion rate of the composition led to increased risks of stability of the vessel with the working volume.

[0078] As a result the required pressure was achieved with a 10 gram block. Flame combustion appeared, the generation rate is higher than required.

[0079] Composition No. 5

[0080] Composition No. 5 had a high combustion rate. An unacceptable flame combustion of the composition appeared. The pressure was built up at a high speed, which significantly increased the risks of damage to the vessel with the working volume. As a result the required pressure was achieved with a 10 gram charge block. The combustion result of the composition is unsatisfactory due to the high speed and flame combustion.

[0081] As experiments have shown, composition No. 3 has the best characteristics in terms of operating efficiency. It is characterized by the required stable combustion rate, about 0.9-2.3 mm / sec, high level of gas phase generation. As a result, the required pressure is achieved with a 10 gram block. The combustion result of the composition is positive; flame formation is below the required characteristics.
