[0002] The invention relates to exercise apparatus and method of use. In particular, the invention relates to an exercise apparatus for leg stretching and strengthening and an associated method of leg stretching and strengthening using an exercise apparatus.Background

[0003] Stretching and strengthening exercises are essential components of fitness routines and rehabilitation programs, especially for individuals seeking to improve leg flexibility, enhance muscle strength, reduce injury risk, reduce pain, or recover from injuries. Effective leg stretching enhances range of motion and joint flexibility, while strengthening exercises increase muscle strength, endurance and stability. However, traditional stretching methods often lack controlled resistance and safeguards against overextension, which can lead to muscle strains, joint injuries, or overstretching.

[0004] Various exercise devices have been developed to aid in leg stretching and strengthening. However, most of these devices focus exclusively on either static stretching or dynamic movements with resistance. [0006] In accordance with a first aspect, an exercise apparatus for leg stretching and strengthening is provided, comprising: a skate configured to support the foot of a first leg of a user, the skate allowing smooth movement of the leg along a surface; a tether arrangement comprising one or more resistance parts and at least one end-of-travel part, the tether arrangement attached between the skate and a second leg of the user; the one or more resistance parts within the tether arrangement providing progressive resistance as the first leg moves; the at least one end-of-travel part within the tether arrangement configured to limit the range of motion of the first leg to inhibit overextension; a leg attachment device configured to be secured to the second leg of the user, the leg attachment device securing the tether arrangement to the second leg; the tether arrangement being positioned to allow the one or more resistance parts and the at least one end-of-travel part to work in tandem, wherein the resistance parts engage during leg movement and the end-of-travel part engages to inhibit overstretching.

[0044] Referring to Figures 1 to 7 there is shown an exercise apparatus 100 including a skate 110 and a tether arrangement 120. The skate 110 is designed to support and receive the foot of a first leg of a user, enabling smooth movement of the leg along a surface.

[0045] The tether arrangement 120 connects the skate 110 to a second leg of the user, providing controlled resistance and limiting the range of motion during stretching and strengthening exercises. It is noted that in some examples the skate 110 may be or includes a slider or sled (not shown) that is configured to slide along a surface.

Claims

The claims defining the Invention are as follows:

1. An exercise apparatus for leg stretching and strengthening, comprising: a. a skate configured to support the foot of a first leg of a user; b. a tether arrangement comprising one or more resistance parts and at least one end-of-travel part, the tether arrangement being attachable between the skate and a second leg of the user, wherein the one or more resistance parts within the tether arrangement provide progressive resistance as the first leg moves, and wherein the at least one end-of-travel part within the tether arrangement is configured to limit the range of motion of the first leg to inhibit overextension; c. a leg attachment device configured to be secured to the second leg of the user and securing the tether arrangement to the second leg; d. the tether arrangement being arranged to allow the one or more resistance parts and the at least one end-of-travel parts to work in tandem, wherein the one or more resistance parts engage during leg movement and the at least one end-of-travel part engages to inhibit overstretching.

2. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the one or more resistance parts include resistance bands and wherein the at least one end-of-travel part includes one or more of a tether and band.

3. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the one or more resistance parts are a plurality of changeable resistance bands, allowing the user to select or replace bands to adjust the resistance level.

4. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising an operable coupling between the skate and the tether arrangement, the operable coupling configured to allow the attachment, detachment, and replacement of the one or more resistance parts.

5. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising an operable coupling between the tether arrangement and the leg attachment device, configured to allow easyattachment and detachment of the tether arrangement from the leg attachment device.

6. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the skate includes friction-reducing parts, such as wheels or rollers, to facilitate smooth sliding and reduce friction between the skate and the surface.

7. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the leg attachment device is a cuff that encircles the second leg of the user.

8. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the skate is configured to support the entire foot of the first leg, allowing controlled sliding on a flat surface to facilitate leg stretching.

9. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the one or more resistance parts are made of an elastic material that progressively increases tension as the first leg moves farther from the second leg.

10. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the at least one end-of-travel part within the tether arrangement is configured to engage and restrict movement when the first leg reaches a predetermined limit of extension, inhibiting injury due to overstretching.

11. The apparatus of claim 1, further comprising a portable and lightweight design, allowing the apparatus to be easily transported and used in different locations, such as at home, in a gym, or while traveling.

12. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the leg attachment device is adjustable to accommodate various leg sizes and securely attach the tether arrangement to the second leg.

13. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the skate includes an optional securing means to hold the foot of the first leg in place during use, either through straps or clips.

14. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the skate further comprises an optional covering upon which the foot of the user is placed for added stability and security during movement.

15. The apparatus of claim 1, wherein the skate further comprises a chassis supporting the friction-reducing parts and the foot-receiving portion.

A method for leg stretching and strengthening, using an apparatus comprising a skate, a tether arrangement including one or more resistance parts and at least one end-of-travel part, and a leg attachment device attaching the tether arrangement to a second leg of a user, the method comprising the steps of: a. Attaching a leg attachment device to the second leg of the user; b. Placing the foot of the first leg into the skate; c. Attaching the tether arrangement between the skate and the leg attachment device on the second leg using the operable couplings; d. Moving the first leg, with the skate, along a surface in a stretching motion; e. Engaging the one or more resistance parts within the tether arrangement to provide progressive resistance as the first leg moves away from the second leg, thereby strengthening muscles in the legs; f. Activating the at least one end-of-travel part within the tether arrangement when the first leg reaches a maximum safe extension to inhibit overextension and potential injury.

17. The method of claim 16, further comprising the step of detaching and replacing one or more of the changeable resistance parts through the operable coupling between the skate and the tether arrangement to adjust the resistance level.

18. The method of claim 16, wherein the skate comprises friction-reducing parts such as wheels or rollers, allowing the user to smoothly move the first leg along the surface.

19. The method of claim 16, wherein the leg attachment device is a cuff that encircles the second leg of the user.

20. The method of claim 16, wherein the first leg is moved in multiple directions, including forward, backward, and sideways, to stretch different muscles in the leg.

21. The method of claim 16, further comprising the step of moving the first leg forward and outward into a forward split position.

22. The method of claim 16, further comprising the step of moving the first leg sideways into a side split position.

23. The method of claim 16, wherein the one or more resistance parts within the tether arrangement provide varying levels of resistance, allowing the user to adjust the intensity of the exercise.
