[0050] In the normal mode 26 without DIAG, the IN pin 1 is in high state and the DIAG pin 2 is in low state. The normal mode 26 without DIAG proceeds to the low power mode 21 when the DSEL pin 6 changes from high to low, dynamic temperature is lower than the set threshold and the output current is lower than the threshold of output current 32 set for the low power mode 21.

[0051] A system where the high side switch is coupled with to a control unit and a load is depicted in Fig. 5 in a schematic way. In this example, the at least one OUT pin 4 of the high side switch 63 is connected to a load, that is represented by a load  impedance 52. The VS pin 5 is coupled with a battery voltage 39. The VS pin 5 is coupled with the GND pin 61 with a voltage supply capacitor 47 between them and is also coupled with the power ground 42 with the first voltage supply capacitor 45 between them. The GND pin 60 is coupled with the power ground 42 with the ground resistor 54 between them. Between a battery voltage 39 and a chassis ground 40, a logic ground 41 and a power ground 42 there is a TVS diode 44 and voltage supply ground capacitor 46.

[0052] The wire impedance 53 is also shown in the Fig. 5. At least one IN pin 1 is coupled with a general purpose input output, GPIO 34 of the control unit 33 with a IN resistor 55 between them. An DIAG pin 2 is coupled with the GPIO 34 with an DIAG resistor 56 between them. An DSEL pin 2 is coupled with the GPIO 34 with an DSEL resistor 57 between them. The IDLE pin 3 is coupled with a GPIO pin 34 with an IDLE resistor 61 between them, and is also connected with a logic supply 38 with the pull-up resistor 62 between them. The logic supply 38 is also connected to the control unit power supply pin 35 pin of the control unit 33 in a pull-up configuration.

[0053] A control unit ground pin 36 is connected to the logic ground 41. An IS pin 7 is coupled with the analog-to-digital converter 37 with an ADC resistor 49 and IS resistor between them. Between the analog-to-digital converter 37 and the ADC resistor 49 there is an sense capacitor 48 coupled to the logic ground 41. Between the IS pin 7 and the IS resistor 50 there is a sense resistor 51 coupled to the logic ground 41. Between the sense resistor 51 and the ADC resistor 49 there is an Zener diode coupled to the logic ground 41 in a reverse bias.

[0054] It should be noted that the chassis ground 40, the logic ground 41 and the power ground 42 are connected to each other in at least one point. It is important from the practical point of view but for an overall analysis each one may be treated as a single ground with a 0V potential.

[0055] It should be however noted that this is not the only method of connecting the high side switch 63 to the control unit and the load, and other solutions are also possible, and the person skill in the art will know how to connect such device.
